and yes, there will be a lot of blood

Not being an avid fan of the first Saw and disliking a lot the second one, I nevertheless was very surprised in a good way about the third installment. Yes, it's utterly relentless and gory, I saw people covering their eyes with hands in a theater, even I winced a couple of times although I had seen many of the films alike. But what I liked the most here was not the brutal nature of Saw III (and it's quite important for the fans when a movie lives up to its R-rating, so that they can say money was spent wisely) and not even the intricate story-line that keeps you surprised and on the edge of your seat all the time. Not the final twist which was expected of course but surely you didn't know what it would be exactly. The main merit of the third part is that it doesn't appear to be a usual stupid sequel that lacks ideas, it brings some new sense into the series, glues all the three films together making a perfect trilogy out of it which now can be watched as a one big 5-hour film. There's plenty of flashbacks here that explain a lot from the second and even the first part, and some things become clear that were not in the ends of previous series. It really takes talent to make a movie that not just stands alone, but adds a lot to the other parts and completes them. Guys that were making it are true professionals and real maniacs :) And apart from being as it seems overly gory and graphic Saw III can boast of being rather thoughtful too. The evil genius of Jigsaw (and of the makers of the film) made the characters (and us along with them) think about rage and its manifestations, about revenge and people's insatiable urge to punish those who took their beloved ones. By quite simple examples inclusive of flesh-ripping, bone-crushing, joint-wresting etc. the killer himself shows us killing is bad. Those will survive who don't succumb to the desire of payback. Only forgiving can grant forgiveness for ourselves. And that's the rule for everyone, even for the evil manipulator's apprentice, and it can't be broken. Otherwise death awaits you as well as your victims. In this movie Jigsaw is seen not as an ordinary killer maniac, but as some kind of a teacher if you will. So this time his puzzles must be solved not only using strength, keen wit and will to live, but also by testing your own virtue and that's something new for this kind of flicks, don't you agree? I don't know what they will do with Saw IV, because the third part wrapped it all very nice making a perfectly neat structure of a trilogy. I'd leave it like that. You can top previous parts in respect of blood and guts, but it'll be pretty hard to keep the same level of thoughtfulness the third part established.

    Best in the series.

"Saw III" is easily the best in the series. The film adds much more to the franchise's plot -- the flashbacks to the events from the first movie were brilliantly done. A nurse named Lynn (Bahar Soomekh) is kidnapped by Amanda (Shawnee Smith). Lynn has to keep Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) alive while another man, Jeff (Angus Macfadyen), completes a series of tests. Jeff's son was killed in a car accident and the drunk driver responsible got a very light sentence. The purpose of his test is to make him forgive and forget about what happened to his son. The director's cut adds even more violence than the unrated version, which itself was pretty gruesome. The rest of the additional seven minutes are made up mostly of two scenes -- Amanda seeing Adam's ghost and a fight between Lynn and Amanda. Both of these scenes add to the film. There is also an alternate ending, which goes on longer and is much more unsettling. The special features are disappointing. Aside from the commentaries, there are featurettes on traps from the first three films. There's also a how-to about dressing up as characters for Halloween and a preview of the first trap from "Saw IV." Highly recommended.

    Least Fave of the 4

The Saw movies, the 4 of them, come together. Once you start the series, you have to finish them. That is why I watched this movie and continued on to Saw IV eventhough I was disappointed with this one. Saw III didn't have the suspenseful thrill like the first, second, or fourth one. There were a few unique but bloody scenes like the open brain surgery...but the blood outdid the story in this one. What kept me a Saw fan was not the gore but the story behind it, and I thought the third one had a strange story. We all thought by the end of Saw II Jigsaw was to die, but Saw III is about keeping Jigsaw alive. Even in his deathbed, he has all these carefully thought out, intricate plans that makes one wonder HOW? and WHY? How psycho is this guy? It could have been worse, but it could have been better also. Watch it if you keep up with the Saw movies, otherwise, I think it's also okay to just watch the first two and be completely satisfied. You need this one for Saw IV though.

    revenge or forgiveness, you decide

This would've been a perfect ending to the series, if they hadn't had so much more to tell, but this series hasn't bored me yet. Jigsaw has vanished and is dying while his apprentice is learning how to help him. Meanwhile, 2 new test subjects have been claimed, one who's obsessed on revenge for something that becomes clear as the movie progresses, while the other is forced to help Jigsaw stay alive until the test is complete. Jigsaw is trying to teach him to forgive the wrongdoers in his life, this storyline, really made me admire the concept of the series. Wanting revenge over being able to forgive is something that anyone can relate to, including me, even though I'm not the vengeful type myself. If you enjoyed the first two, you should enjoy this one too.

I happen to like the sequels of Saw. I like the fact that there are new and interesting ways to kill off the victims but that they somehow link back to what happened in the last two movies. It makes me really pay attention so that I can put the puzzle together. Even though the movies have a high level of gore, the plot allows me to look past the blood and focus on the unique and intricate machines and devices used to test the characters. It amazes me that even though there are so many sequels, the director keeps me guessing.

    Here's where it should've stopped

This is where the series should've ended. It's not the best of the first three, but the ending leaves you satisfied and when you see how it ends, you just don't think they could make more in the way that still makes them relevent to the point of what made Jigsaw a unique villian. The acting from the female "hero" of the film feels wooden, but other than that, not bad. If you've seen the past movies, you pretty much know what you're in for with gore, but the movie gives a nice twist at the end that makes me enjoy it more.

My wife and I love these movies, they just get better and better. This third installment ties right in with the first two. Don't think of this as a sequel, these movies are really just one big movie seperated into segments. Don't skip one or you'll probably be confused. Plus, always make sure you get the unrated director's cuts, you don't want to miss anything. I highly recommend this one, along with the others!

Jigsaw is finally dying and there's nothing Amanda can do about it, but make at least one more trap for a doctor trying to save Jigsaw's life. Not as good plot-wise as the first two, but still better than most horror flicks that have came out lately. Now the only two questions remain, Whose being tested, and can they have another Saw without jigsaw? (shameless plug for Saw IV, opens 10/26/07)

The traps in this film are well constructed, and the acting is spot on.But I just have a problem with the plot.Jigsaw is dying but he can't go to a hospital so he kidnaps a doctor from the hospital and puts a detonating collar around her neck.If she ever leaves or kills him she will die.But the good thing is that it was better than the second film.

I haven't found many movies that go farther than the original and one sequel that are worth watching. I am truly impressed by the Saw series. After a while you'd think you've got these movies figured out, and it takes a new turn. This movie was no exception, and I am looking forward to any and all new releases of this series as it comes.

This had the biggest twist of all since every little hole was filled and everything and everyone was connected in one way or the other. It's lame that Jigsaw dies in this but they're appenrantly making a Saw IV. Oh well hopefully it will be as good as the others.

The 3rd one is my favorite. Very unique in brutality, screenplay, sounds, props. I like the puzzle mind games makes you think what's going to happen and next thing you know- it's not what you think it is. Bloodthirsty film.
