Magnet not strong enough for heavy phone/case

I was excited to find this product with a magnet since my old one with clip is starting to fall apart. The mechanical part works fine but the magnet is just not very strong. MY Samsung S7 without a case is very light and holds okay until I hit a pothole or bump, which the DFW area has plenty of. When I put my iPhone with metal case on it, it barely holds even on smooth roads and starts sliding down on the slightest bump then falls off. I had such high hopes but the magnet is not strong enough.

Three stars not because it doesn’t work exactly as it’s intended, or because it isn’t priced well. But because it puts a lot of tension on the radio itself. Stopped using it because I was afraid it was going to damage the radio.

I bought this and then I bought the other one from the same company that sticks on dash. This one unless mine was broken bounced my phone around. The stick one works better.

Solid design, not easily broken considering it's been stepped on several times and smashed at the bottom of luggage. But... It has popped off for no reason several times.

Worked decent but blocked my display screen & back up camera. Had to switch. And phone would fall off if I hit a big bump. Magnets aren’t near strong enough.

Ok for quick uses where you don't plan to touch the phone. Hit a hole or something and the phone may fall off mount. Blocks radio GPS is so installed as well. Perfect for rental vehicles.

It does the job but doesn't stay in the cd holder a bit loose and if you have a thicker case the magnet doesn't work well.

The magnet is not that strong and does not hold enough for thick cases. It does the job for thin cases.

Just another option to try. Better than the windshield mount, but not as good as the vent mount.

Before I start in on this product, I'd like to say that I have several other Scosche mounts which have been perfectly fine. No complaints about quality or the item per se. I could see how it might work for some, and as pointed out might be a good mount for a rental car. One reason I bought it was that it mounts the phone in a location that isn't visible as a windshield or dash mount would be. A person would have to walk up to the car and look inside to see it, so there's a little "out of sight, out of mind" protection. But it won't work in my car (BMW 3-Series) because it places the phone right in front of the display for the stereo and computer. It is also not stiff enough to support my iPhone 8S without a lot of vibration. There is a set-screw that allows you to sort of lock it into the CD slot, but it doesn't affect the vibration, and you should make sure that screw won't leave a mark on the exterior of your CD player before you tighten it too much. Finally, my car has a manual transmission and the mount positions the phone in such a way that no matter what I do my hand hits the phone when I shift. And of course you wouldn't know any of that until you buy the mount and actually use it, which is why I can't "recommend to a friend." If the circumstances are right, this could be a good solution for you - but I'm probably going to return the one I bought.
