After years of this movie being on DVD and other Blu-ray releases, we finally get an Ultra HD 4K version Steelbook edition! This is a great edition to any movie collector/steelbook collector's library! The movie looks and sounds great as it has not been before. Playing it back on the Sony 4K player and 4K TV is fantastic. Menu looks good and easy selections for all. I look forward to the other 3 movies in the franchise. Well done!

The 90's classic; often imitated but never duplicated. This is a huge upgrade over the blu ray version which featured all kinds of color/grain problems and this 4k version fixes all that and a much better sound.

    Scream 1996

The 4K release of Wes Craven’s Scream finally gives this modern slasher classic the visual respect it deserves. This is a film born on 35mm with texture, grain, and that late-90s cinematic chill in the air — and the new transfer preserves that identity instead of scrubbing it away. Video Quality • Resolution: 2160p (4K) with HDR10, and Dolby Vision on supporting players/TVs • Transfer Source: New 4K scan of the original camera negative The image is significantly sharper and more nuanced than the old Blu-ray. Skin textures, fabric, and background details that were once mushy or flat are now clear and natural. Grain is present but well-behaved — it feels like film, not noise. Dark scenes (like the opening farmhouse and the party finale) gain depth and shadow detail, and highlights (flashlights, reflections, blood glint…) have more contrast without blowing out. Colors are more authentic to the theatrical look: reds are deeper, daylight scenes look more “real” and less video-ish than past releases. Nothing about this looks overly processed. It feels like getting Scream back in its original theatrical soul. Audio Quality • Primary Track: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (lossless) This is the same foundational mix carried forward from previous higher-quality releases, but it still holds up wonderfully. Dialog is clean, Marco Beltrami’s score swells and cuts just where it should, and the jump-scare stings still do their wicked job. Surrounds aren’t overly flashy — they’re atmospheric. Crickets, telephones, and off-screen footsteps form a soundstage that keeps you just uneasy enough. Bass isn’t heavy, but attacks and crashes have more impact than the Blu-ray. No Dolby Atmos here, but the 5.1 mix doesn’t feel lacking — it’s true to the film’s original sound design.

The original scream is still the best suspense film in the industry. The new remaster gives me more insight on the scene yet still not ready for the jump Scares.

Scream takes a Stab in the UHD Market

While Wes Craven’s Scream is a horror classic that shaped the genre becoming a cultural icon, the 2011 blu-ray release is notoriously known for its heavy DNR, smooth and waxy faces, and low bar audio. Ten years later, the slasher flick is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a brand new 4K remaster. Expectations were notably high, and this disc slashes the competition to bloody bits. The 1996 film has never looked this good before. Gone is the DNR wax, absent are the smoothened out wax covered textures, and in comes a grain heavy, sharpened and brightly textured quality that brings greater detail. One would almost think the high quality of this transfer is as if Scream was made today. This also comes with new retrospective features that look back on the franchise and looks ahead to the future with its upcoming fifth installment.

    Redifined the horror genre

If you're looking for a smart, self-aware horror film, then look no further than Scream. The film came out at a time when the horror genre was dying out and it was breath of fresh air, delivering a unique, inventive cinematic experience and is one of the most influencial horror movies ever. Wes Craven does an excellent job in keeping the mystery aura from start to finish and elevating the suspense in every scene, combined with a well-written screenplay by Kevin Williamson that manages to bring a self-referencial commentary on the horror genre while also embracing its tropes. The movie has an amazing cast, with Neve Campbell being perfectly cast as the main protagonist Sidney Prescott, and she's well supported by Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Skeet Ulrich, who are great in their roles. On the downside, there are some stupid character decisions that made no sense and Tatum is probably the only character I didn't care about. Scream manages to bring a new life to an already dying genre and it still holds up after 25 years. You will be on your edge of your seat.

    Craven dismantles & reinvigorates horror

1996, smack dab in the middle of one of the worst decades for horror cinema, one of its revered masters, Wes Craven, takes apart the slasher flick, pokes fun at its guts AND manages to provide memorable scares. A slew of latter-day slashers sprouted up in the wake of SCREAM's raging box office success, some fun, many stupid. But the public & the film industry were nonetheless reminded of something important: WE LOVE SCARY MOVIES. Originally titled SCARY MOVIE, Craven's movie gave us slashers who grew up watching slashers & a Scooby-Doo plot that's sure to entertain. As a hardcore fan of horror cinema, this gem gave me blood, scares, creeps & a fun, knowing reminder of all the little pieces that add up to a fine, fun freaky movie. With this, the SCARY MOVIE series would never have been born (not the worst thing, maybe) AND the following decade's earnest return to creative, outside-the-lines horror movies most likely would have been stuck at the drawing board.
