Reliable storage for XBox One
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this drive to replace an existing external storage drive for my XBox One X. The previous drive was a 1TB SSD that was proving to be very flaky. The drive itself ships with a short USB 3 cable and is a small, 2.5" 5400 rpm drive. It comes with some backup software installed for Windows system backups but I formatted over this immediately, to make it work with my XBox. Although this is a little slower than the old SSD I was using, I don't mind because it is so far very reliable and preserves my game saves exactly where I left off. On the old SSD, I would come back to pick up the games and the XBox would report that there was no external storage attached and I would have to power cycle the drive to get it recognized again and then boot the game from scratch - very annoying. Now I can just power everything up, start the game and then play within a very short space of time. I don't have any problems at all with this drive and the only real criticism I can think of is that it is a little slower to load up games for the first time. I like that this drive does not have a separate power button and it does not appear to go to sleep - if the XBox is on, so is the drive which is how I want it to work. The sheer amount of space is very welcome as I felt I would fill the 1TB drive with 2-3 more big games but having 5TB available leaves me feeling a little more confident about adding games. The drive is quiet and I have not heard it spinning, although it is located in a cabinet with the console. All in all, I like the way this drive works with my gaming console and would definitely consider it for any other storage needs in the future.

Not reliable
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to use as backup for Time Machine for my iMac. It worked for 5 weeks then failed. Disk utility could not fix the drive. I cannot erase the drive. I cannot delete anything from the drive. I can open files on the drive but that is all. Because my sensitive financial information is on the drive, I cannot return it to Best Buy because anyone could open my files. Basically, I am stuck and lost $115 on this drive.

Great speed and size in small package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After testing this drive out over the weekend it definitely outperformed my expectations for transferring large files. I plugged it into my other Seagate External HDD with a built in USB 3.0 port where I have music, movies, and pictures saved to transfer over files to free up space. I also plan to use it with my gaming laptop when I need additional space in the future. After doing a few various tests of transferring various file sizes it demonstrated sustained write speeds from 45 Mb/s to 55 Mb/s for smaller music files all the way up to 145 Mb/s to 155 Mb/s for large video files. It is USB 3.0 so you have to have it plugged into a USB 3.0 port to really take advantage of the speed this drive is capable of. The size of this drive is also very nice. It is small and compact and really packs a wallop for the size. I have had Seagate external drives for the past few years to provide additional storage capacity on both of my XBOX One systems. They have been very reliable for me over the past few years and I don't expect this one to be any less reliable.

Good basic drive for the money
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My, but isn’t hard drive based storage getting cheap. With that, there’s no excuse for not backing your computer or at least your personal data. At 5 TB this is more than enough for any computer backup or the largest collection of photos and videos. If you need more space to store your games, this is a good solution there as well. If you’re interested, it comes with a one-year subscription to mylio as well as basic backup software and utilities. This is the current iteration of the Backup Plus drive system that been around a few years. It comes formatted as exFAT which makes it compatible with a lot of devices. On the downside, there is no hardware data encryption, so if that’s a deal-breaker, you’ll have to look elsewhere and pay more. It’s a USB 3.0 drive with a micro-b connection on the unit and a USB Type A connection for your computer or device. Type A ports are vanishing on some new laptops as USB C and Thunderbolt takes over. Being USB 3.0, the general transfer speed seems about half of what my USB C 3.1 external drive can maintain. This is a basic external hard drive with a lot of capacity for the money and some perks and basic software thrown in. With massive data transfers, you might notice the slower USB 3.0 speed, but for typical backup, game and media storage, it will do the job.

Small size, huge storage, great price.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Seagate Backup Plus 5TB is a fantastic deal if you are just looking for a basic portable hard drive with a ton of space. Is it the fastest hard drive I've ever used? No, but it does have usb3.0, and the speeds are more than serviceable for a drive of this type. There is something to be said for having 5TB of storage in your pocket. I don't use any of the included backup utilities, but they are there if you want to make use of them. I mainly use this as a backup for all of my video files, and my wife's photography. It has worked to perfection so far. I can't speak to the longevity of the drive, but if it holds up I will be purchasing more of these. 5TB of portable storage for just over $100?! Sign me up. If you are looking for a ton of storage for a little price give this Seagate a try. I am very happy, and I am confident you will be too.

Good Concept - but Died after 2 months.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't had any issues with Seagate's 1TB and 2TB USB Drives. This 5TB was handled very carefully; used about 7 times for Backup before failing. Now it just gets warm and makes noises. Obviously I'm bummed.

Back-up Overkill
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Latest version of Seagate's Backup line, providing a significant amount of storage space in a fairly compact size. Compared to my Seagate SRD00F1, 1TB drive, this 5TB drive has a slightly smaller footprint and is only 1/4” taller yet doesn't add much weight. Set-up was straight forward, no issues encountered but with an annoying amount of bloatware. The “Tool Kit” back-up utility software is useful if you wish to have a more automated file management process but is redundant and unnecessary for those who are used to the copy/paste file transfer method. Both are easy, just a matter of preference. The only other beef is the provided, short, 18” connection cable which can make placement of the drive difficult in some situations. A 36” cable would be a great improvement. Overall this is a versatile, compact external storage drive, perfect for use on the go or at home.

Nice compact high capacity external drive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.5 stars, works well and was very easy to set up. The registration process was quick. Comes with a Toolkit program to make file transfers, back ups, and mirror/sync etc. Also bundled are a couple of free software trials. I connected mine to the USB port on my PC and was finished with the install and registration in less than 2 minutes. I played around with Toolkit for a bit, but I just wanted the storage to transfer large files off of my C drive, so I formatted the drive in Windows as a straight storage drive and it's working great and as expected. The only thing I could wish for would be drive encryption/protection but it's not a deal breaker. Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Great for Macbook Pro Time Machine Backup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice, portable drive with a good storage capacity for a backup drive. I have a 1 TB SSD in my Macbook Pro and this provides plenty of space for numerous backups using Time Machine. With USB 3.0, it transfers files quite quickly. Even though it uses USB 3.0, I wouldn't necessarily use it for data-intensive tasks since it's not an SSD, so if you're planning on working off of this drive for stuff like video or photo editing, you may want to consider an SSD. But for the capacity for the money as well as portability? 5 stars, for sure.

||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not happy with this product, I barely used this drive, when I did it was for work and school. I have a whole other set I use for content creation and gaming. This was the newest drive, and yet it was the first to fail after a few months. Very disappointed.

Speedy file transfers and a great option for PS4.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First one I received was DOA. Seagate sent me a replacement drive and that one works perfect. Drive is recognized right away and on my PC the file transfers are speedy and no issues. The drive is also very quiet while operating. 5TB is a lot of storage space, particularly for a USB powered drive. This drive, IMO, is a great option for a game system like PS4. You'll have plenty of storage for games and updates, since the PS4 standard 1TB drive gets eaten up pretty quickly initially.

click click Excellent click click
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Durable chassis, easy integration with Windows, Mac, PS4, and Xbox, and reasonably fast transfer speeds. The unit is powered by its USB cable, so you don't have to worry about a spare outlet. Backup storage devices larger than 5 TB typically require a separate power source. Easy formatting options mean this drive can be repurposed for game system storage painlessly (which is what I ultimately used if for). The light blue metallic color is nice, but color options aren't the primary concern with USB storage devices. Unless you're really worried about aesthetics, the drive color is negligible. The drive is thick, though, so this device isn't exactly backpack-friendly. It has the depth of about two 2 TB storage drives stacked on top of each other. Not a problem for home use, but the size is something to take into consideration if you plan to take this on the go. The only noticeable drawback with this device is a persistent clicking that occurs even when the drive is idle. So long as the drive is receiving some form of power, you'll hear a light clicking from the drive. This doesn't seem to affect operation, and is more just an intrinsic property of the operation of a magnetic disk hard drive. I have a Seagate 1 TB backup drive that makes a similar clicking sound and has worked reliably for three years, so it's unlikely the sound is indicative of any looming mechanical catastrophe. Given that SSD prices are continually falling, this is an excellent option to backup a large music library, or to hold a growing collection of PS4 or Xbox One games. Users that need something more dynamic for shuttling large amounts of data back and forth should like for a USB-connectable SSD external drive. If your needs are more for reliable, static storage, this drive will more than suffice.

Large Capacity with Rapid Data Transfer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I followed the vendor provided directions while connecting this device to my Win 10 desktop with that desktop already booted. However, Windows did not even see the device. I downloaded and installed the Seagate Toolkit software as instructed, but the device was still not detected. Assuming the device was DOA, I went ahead and logged a support request with the vendor and shutdown my Win 10 desktop for the night. The next day, I booted up the same Win 10 desktop with the Seagate backup device still attached and noticed that the little light on that device lit up - Hmmm... I then proceeded to format it per instructions for use with Windows, ending up with 4.5 of 5 terabytes of storage available for use. Next, used Seagate Toolkit to make my first backup of that Win 10 desktop with the backup device connected to a USB 3.0 port. The backup completed unbelievably quickly - multiple gigabytes in mere minutes! Feeling really good about the device, I tried it out next on a much older Win 7 desktop. With Seagate Toolkit software installed on the Win 7 desktop, I proceeded to back it up to the Seagate device as well. It also completed quite fast even though that desktop only has USB 2.0 ports. That Seagate Toolkit allows you to make backups and then keep them in synch if you so choose. I am very impressed with this device. BTW, Seagate support did get back to me right away come Monday even though they seemed to have missed the followup communication that I sent to cancel the first support request.

Works as mass storage on a XBOX one X
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Checked to be sure it was formatted to NFTS, did a drive error check, hooked it up to my Xbox, Xbox formatted drive, then backed up all games as well as the system. Small case as to make this a nice external storage game drive. XBOX one S and X can now accept up to 3 external drives. Very nice well built unit,

Great portable drive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Seagate Backup Plus external hard drive works like a US flash drive except it packs a much larger punch and storage space is great. It is so portable you can even put it in your pocket or purse. I have used it with my Windows desktop and several of my laptops and it moves from one machine to another with ease. You just have to use the safely remove icon to let Windows know you are unplugging the USB cable first. I am really impressed with the transfer rate of this drive. When I transferred a really large file from my laptop to this hard drive connected to a USB 3.0 port, it was amazingly fast. Windows showed a transfer rate of over 100 MB per second. When I tried doing the same thing with it connected to a USB 2.0 port it was still 30 MB per second. I have transferred files from one laptop to another so I could change my primary laptop and it transferred a lot of files very quickly. I just copied the files to the clipboard on the old laptop and then pasted them on the new one. Easy Peasy! This is a great drive.
