I used this product to store all of my videos, music and photos, as not to clutter my computer's hard drive. Today, the product failed to read and I am unable to recover anything from the drive, even on another computer. This product is a complete failure.

I use this to back up my laptop and it seems to work very well, I do not trust mechanical drives since they fail all to often.

I've experienced the terrible feelings that come from losing a lot of data due to the failure of a drive that wasn't backed up. This is a good drive for a multitude of uses, and the cost was reasonable.

I purchased this as a back up for my Mac computer. I use the "SuperDuper" software to make a clone of the computer for back up purposes and to use in case computer failure.

I only buy Seagate after having numerous failures with Western Digital drives. I own 8 of these drives all still work perfect.

The Seagate External USB portable hard drive is used for regular backup of my PC and will be used for reprogramming in the event of computer failure. This enhances my sense of security, having experiences previous computer failures.

So I like good cheap drives for work and play and this one was cheap and easy to use but of the 5 we've bought we've had to send 3 back due to failure. we use the drives to move things from one station to another so they take a lot more abuse than I imagine the are meant to handle.

I have several Seagate external drives and they have all performed at the highest level. One did fail after a number of years, but that happens. This one is a redundant drive for yet another backup for photographs.

I prefer Seagate drives over Western Digital. I have had too many Western Digital drives fail on me. Get a Seagate.

I had heard that "certain" brands had a high failure rate, but I've never had any problems with Seagate products. I purchased this drive several months ago, and I've had no problems with it. I highly recommend it for backups.

Purchased as a back up for my work files. While applying standard encryption to the entire drive, it had catastrophic failure. Didnt even own it for three days. Best Buy took it back and allowed me to exchange for a solid state drive.

    Major Mechanical Failure

Excuse me while I bawl my eyes out. I had purchased this product with the specific purpose to safely store my family photos. In preparation for the arrival of our second child, I wanted to free space on my computer and put photos in a format that both my husband and I would be able to add to. Well, I followed the directions, downloaded all of my family photos from my first daughter's birth-present day successfully, and safely ejected. I have a Surface Pro 2 which only has one USB port, so I downloaded more pictures from my phone and went to do a second transfer. The Seagate drive failed. I sought assistance from Best Buy Geek Squad and received a report that there was "major mechanical failure" on the drive itself. My options: to send it off to their recovery center and spend upwards of $2k to TRY to recover the files. Yes, this product comes with a 2 year LIMITED warranty, limited in that they will replace the drive but take no responsibility for data lost. To say I am disappointed and upset would be a gross understatement.

I have two these. One as backup for my Windows computers the other as a Time Machine backup for my Macbook Pro. So far so good. I read on another site that some people were having some issue with drive failures but the majority of the reviews were positive.

I don't know how well this back up system will work until the computer fails and then I need it. I hope it never happens but it MIGHT. Good price, had it installed at Best Buy. The got it done in less a day so I was back in business the next business day.

I chose this drive on two differentiating traits: price and size. The drive is noticeably slimmer than other similar drives, and works just as well for slightly less money. My one hesitation was that the warranty is somewhat shorter than some other drives, but it has generally been my experience that "bad" drives will typically fail within two years regardless of the warranty offering. The drive is slim, it's fast, it's quiet. Other than the thin profile and the slightly better price, nothing really distinguishes it from the WD, which I also own.

This was my second drive...but when I got home it was a fail. It stopped after 15-20 seconds every time I tried to open the drive. Over and over. They replaced it and the new one is working just fine. I'll still go with this company...but that's why it has the 4. Stars

I use the device for PC backup. It was easy to set up and works very well. The sleek design is much more space accommodating. One problem though. Sometimes my Windows 10 PC would fail to boot. The booting would start and then stop at the black screen with a flashing dash in the upper left corner. What I discovered was that unplugging the external hard drive allowed the PC to boot normally. So now I unplug it at shut down and reconnect the external drive after booting. It is a small inconvenience that allows me to use a good device.
