I moved about 3000 of my photos to my Seagate external hard drive in order to free up space on my computer and cloud storage. It's a convenient, inexpensive way to store files. However, I experienced a problem with the interface to my MAC. For some unknown reason it reformatted to read only and I could not add/move/edit/delete files on the hard drive. I discovered a fix on the Internet, but only after I reloaded all of my files to my MAC for fear of erasing them through the reformatting process. Once I discovered the fix, it was quick and easy and did not disrupt any files that were on the hard drive.

I went into my local bb looking to purchase an external hard drive.I was unfamiliar with Seagate, but from what I was told by many of my friends, they are great. First off, Seagate had many products on the shelf. Besides it being on sale, I decided to go with the 2 TB as it was only a $10 difference from the 1TB. Also a factor that made me choose this product was that it was functional with both MAC and PC (most are anyway), but they had one specifically just for MAC. It made sense to just get the one compatible with both. So far no problems with the product it does what its supposed to do. Did I mention it comes with Cloud memory.

This product is nice and compact - not bulky in the least. Yet, it can store huge amounts of data. It's perfect for anyone who travels and needs a convenient device to either store or backup lots of data that would otherwise overwhelm their hard drive. it's also perfect for a frequent traveler who may have a collection of downloaded or digitized movies that they'd like to have convenient and easy access to - either while on a plane, train or simply in their hotel room. Actually - this device and it's capacity can easily handle both the largest of your work files and most -if not all of an average - or slightly larger than average - digital movie collection.

So this slim little guy is only 4.5 x 3 inches and only a 1/2 inch thick. It takes up hardly any room and weighs less than a cellphone. WIth 2 TB on tap through a USB 3.0 port, writing and reading files from t his drive is really quick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I put all of my movies onto this drive so i can access them through a USB 3.0/Lightning cable for my iphone/pad and another USB 3.0/2.0 to be able to have access to all of these files on long car trips through my vehicles entertainment system. Buy it because you know you need it / want it / can use it / kids will need their media / for quiet car rides / because that space is awesome / because USB 3.0 ......

    Bought for my PS4

First let me say that I specifically bought this to use in my PS4. It was easy to take the cover off the case and remove the HD. The HD fit into my PS4 without any issues and my PS4 HD fit into the case without any issues. I have had the HD for a few weeks now and haven't had any issues since being placed in my PS4. As stated earlier I didn't purchase this product for the intended use but it does what I bought it for very well. I would purchase again if needed.

I had bought a WD EHD and did not like it, had a dashboard which I did not understand nor want. I wanted an EHD that I could use as a hard drive, without bells and whistles. I have two other Seagates that are a few yrs old, each is 500 GB, love them. Returned the WD and got this one, turns out it had a dashboard also! Called the help line, they explained I don't have to use the dashboard, just use the EHD like I use the others. Simple, love it, SMALL and did not like that, but it's been great so far! Only complaint is the length of the cord. Good thing I have a place on the front of my desktop to plug this into, and I have to keep this on the same shelf drawer as my keybord.

I purchased this hard drive to upgrade the internal hard drive in the PS4. I'm happy to report that it works well and at the end you can place your original PS4 hdd in the case and reformat it to be used as a normal USB Storage Drive. Make sure to do a full backup of the PS4 if you don't want to re-download digital content or loose title that cannot be downloaded again like P.T. Also make sure to download the full PS4 firmware to restore the console the size is around 900mb if your file if 278mb or so that is only the upgrade file and will not work to restore your system.

It didnt last that much and it started having trouble until now it takes so long to read stuff. I really dont know whats wrong with it. i had about 1.3TB of data in it so i bought a new 4 TB drive to back it up. it took the drive almost a week of copying files even though i was using usb 3.1 connections. it was painfully slow and some files had been damaged. i am going to shuck the drive and see if wiping it fixes it so i can use it as an internal drive for whatever but i would never use it a main drive or to store valuable things.

I bought this hard drive to use with my Xbox One. I was running low on free space and needed additional storage for games/updates. It has been working just fine so far! I opted for the 2TB so that I won't have to worry about running out of free space for a long time. I definitely recommend this product to anyone needing more storage. There is no need to spend more money on the green, Xbox One branded hard drive. It's the exact same, only it comes pre-formatted to work with the Xbox One. Your Xbox One will automatically format any hard drive when you plug it in anyway.

One of my primary drives got a corrupt MFT.. presumably taking it out of one external bay and putting it in another. I was able to recover all the contents but needed a new drive to copy it onto.... Ran to BestBuy to find a fast drive to copy onto.. since they didn't have WD Black series drives or any great internal drives like this, I went the portable/external route and purchased this Seagate. The price was decent, and the "Geek Squad" guy seemed to think it was SSD. The drive worked perfectly (albeit USB 2 speeds since that box didn't have a USB3 port), but I was disappointed to realize it had a standard 5400 RPM drive inside instead of SSD.

    PS4 easy drive swap

Awesome. No problems with removing from case to install in my PS4. A great deal for 1.7 usable Tb. A little advice, before swapping drives backup your system, game saves and install data to another external from old drive.Took me about 4 hours for approx 400 Gb. After you install and reinitialize this new drive, install the OS and restore the data to from the external to the new 2 Tb drive and you will not need to reinstall everything individually. Took me about 7 hours for total backup and restore and I still have 1.43 Tb left! After all this I was even able to put the 500 Gb stock drive in the case and use it as an external for media.

Purchased this on sale from Bestbuy.com. I happened to do a search for PS4 compatible external hard drives and this was one of the ones I saw the most. To make a long story short, upon receiving it, it would not format for the ps4. First external that I have purchased for my ps4 that didnt format once plugged into ps4. I have 2 others. Turns out that I had to hook it up to my computer, format it using all these special steps then I was able use it. All this being said, once everything was done, it now works perfectly. And I love how compact it is. My other 2 are quite bigger.

I almost returned this drive once I realized that the software, unlike Western Digital software, does not provide a way to lock the hard drive. Granted it does provided encryption backup software but I could not find a way to actually password lock the drive. I did find some 3rd party software which I plan to purchase, but I figured that since it came with secure backup software that would be included. I asked the salesperson and received a verbal confirmation that it could do what I was asking. I guess I'd better be more specific next time. I apparently do not have the correct version of Windows 10 for Bitlocker is not included.

Bought this Seagate back up device upon advice from a tech junkie, when I realized that all of the little flash drives that I use may not last forever, may be lost, or could just stop working, leaving me with nothing. So now I use this to back up and archive everything I have. I never store anything on my computer, so this works well. I have thousands of pictures, reports, and even some movies, and I still haven't even made a dent in the 2TB storage capacity. Very simple and easy to set up and use. Transfer of files is extremely easy. One of my best purchases.

Bought this after searching for a larger hd for my PS4. Easy to take apart and install into the PS4. There are guides on YouTube if needed but it's pretty simple and straight forward. I have had this for over a month now and haven't had any problems so far. It's working better than the much older 1tb hd I had in before. You probably won't notice much of a difference in performance if you had the stock hd but the space makes it worth it. So overall it's a less expensive/cheap, whichever you prefer, upgrade to the stock PS4/3 hd. Sorry I can't comment on its uses as an external drive, but hope this helps those looking to upgrade their PS4/3 hd.

I have real trouble rating a hard disk drive after such a short time in use. With only one exception over decades of experience, the only problems I have ever had with an HDD has been after months or (more often) years of use. This drive works when new the way one expects a new drive to work, but I simply haven't had it long enough to assess its reliability over time. I can't tell whether it works as fast as a USB 3.0 interface allows because I have only used it on computer with USB 2.0 interface. The included backup software seems clunky, but that may be because I am not used to it. I like Seagate because of years of good experience with the brand.

Was looking for a drive to put into my PS4. After reading other reviews, I bought. 1.) Backup your data. I didn't backup my game downloads and it was around 1.8GB. 2.) Format the drive as exFAT in Windows. Not sure what you would do if you have Mac. 3.) Replace drive. 4.) Download ~800MBish firmware file from Playstation.com 5.) Start PS4 with new drive and software on USB drive. 6.) Follow prompts. 7.) Restore backup from USB drive. 8.) Restart PS4, and your settings will be back, along with game saves. 9.) Redownload games when necessary. My son was back to playing Arkam Knight in 2 hours yesterday.

Seagate Backup is an Easy Way to Keep Stuff Safe

I need to back up every day, and I don't want to have to jump through a lot of technical hoops to do it. The Seagate Backup I bought goes right into my USB port. I can even set it to only backup what has changed since the last backup, which saves a lot of time. I can't believe how small these external drives have become - the first 1TB I bought years ago cost a hundred bucks and was the size of a large VHS tape, only much heavier (it was portable in the way a large encyclopedia is portable!). My Seagate has twice the capacity, is about 1/8 the size, and cost 40% less. And it literally fits in my pocket.

In terms of hard drives, there is always a trade off between portability, size, and speed. While this drive is ultra portable and contains large size, it is not the fastest. Size: 2 TB of data is plenty! Portability: 2.5" size allows for you to ditch the power cord and have a light and easy to use drive. Speed: Do to the large size (>1tb) and superb portability (2.5" vs 3.5"), this external is only HDD is only 4500rpm. Because of this, the fact that is USB 3.0 is pointless and the spin rate would not even saturate a USB 2.0 bandwidth. Simple question then? Do you need 2tb? If not, get a 1tb 7200rpm drive. I needed 2tb so this was a perfect fit!

I had an older Seagate external hard drive that quit working on me about a month ago. After much hassle, a local company was able to get a lot of the data retrieved. I gave them this brand new Seagate external hard drive to put all the information onto. It literally didn't even last 2 weeks and now my computer doesn't even recognize it when it gets plugged in (and it did before). Same issue I had with the older version, except that version did last me a few years. I do not have extensive experience with external hard drives, but I do not recommend Seagate.
