Might Actually Backup More Regularly Now

I almost always carry a trusty thumb drive with me. I'm always worried about leaving it someplace I shouldn't. Sure, I can encrypt individual files easily, or rely on a software based encryption option for a whole drive. But, with this, you get hardware based encryption and a full terrabyte worth of data storage. With the 256-AES encryption, you can count on your drive being secure from prying eyes. Just don't write your drive password down anywhere. The drive comes with a Secure Code (SID) and Reset Code (PSID) sheet that you shouldn't lose. While I didn't try the reset option, I'm assuming anything I had on the drive after doing that would be gone. That's the cost of losing your password.... So... don't lose it.

Great drive for the Price

The only real issue I have with it that no where on the retail packaging does not display the RPM speeds of the drives. Nowhere can it be found. I can only assume it to be of 5400RPM but it may in fact be lower.
To ensure the best functionality is that this HD needs a reformating. It is configured by default as Ex-FAT when it should be NTFS.
After a reformat, I am getting some very reasonable speeds of 128MB/s
I must remind any potential buyer that these external hard drives are fragile (platter based) and should only be used for either backup of transfer of data. You should never use those as your main data storage.
The look is OK, but still slippery, and the price is reasonable.

This baby really moves the video and pic files for me. I do a lot of video editing and that is always needed. Very fast transfer rate. The portable design is very needed plus. I can take my projects on the go. The encryption software is decent. Once you get it setup your ready. Like most drives though you always fall below the listed capacity. I hate that. But all in all a definite find,

So this hardrive is small, nice looking. Has some great software with it so you can easily backup your hard drive you want and you can password protect it. Has a nice mesh top that feels and looks great.
I love that the provided usb cable is a good length. Not to short. But not long either. Allows for a little bit of movement.
They also provide an adapter that takes the old usb style and allows to be used in a usb c slot.
The only issue I had was I put a password on it, but then it seemed to not remember it so I had to use the default reset password and reset it.

Inexpensive Insurance For File Storage

The Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Touch is easy to install. You register first, then receive a download you run, which downloads more software. They you either let it back up everything by default, or wander through a rather basic and clumsy menu to choose your folders to back up. The Toolkit app which manages the backup crashed several times while I was setting the backup preferences, and has been a bit quirky while running in the background. Sometimes the icon disappears from the block of pop-up icons in Windows 10 taskbar.
Like many other programs, the backup can't handle filenames or paths more than 256 characters long, and a notification window kept telling me that there was a list of skipped files. You can view the list as a report, click on the files one at a time and rename them in a Windows file explorer to rename them if you desire. I had several hundred on the list. Not gonna happen.
It is quiet--you can't hear a drive moving in there. I don't get the "Touch" part of the product name since there is nothing to touch but the drive itself, which features a fabric cover with the Seagate logo in gold on one side.
It comes with a USB-C adapter to use with other devices (a Windows tablet?) but it's not set up to use on anything other than Windows or Mac.
It is the "always on" type of backup, monitoring the folders and files for changes. When I added a photo to a folder, a notification instantly verified it has been added to the Seagate drive.

Excellent Backup Solution

First let me point out I've been a fan of Seagate products for almost twenty years. The only time I have ever had a Seagate drive die was my own fault for placing it on a magnet.
That said, this more than lives up to my expectations! Build wise it feels very sturdy and the cloth material on the top adds a bit of class. Included is an adapter to connect the drive via USB-C rather than the older USB 3, and so far that is my only complaint (in all fairness it probably has more to do with my three year old laptop more than the drive itself). When connected via the USB-C adapter I've noticed that the time to transfer files takes a little bit longer than when it is connected via USB 3. As stated earlier I think this is more an issue with my older laptop than the drive itself.
A nice included bonus was a two month trial to Adobe Creative Cloud!
Overall I am extremely satisfied with this excellent external hard drive!

Works as expected. No problems. Nice looking, if that matters to you.
