I've had much better long term performance with Seagate than Western Digital hard drives. Based on an Apple app called DriveDX, that monitors the hard drive's SMART attributes, the Western's health and performance starts to degrade in weeks of operation. While the Seagate's health takes over a year or more before SMART indicators show a slow down.
Also purchased this 14TB on sale at an amazing price.

I have had two of these drives for some time. Overall solid performance. As an external USB drive the read and write speeds are lower than for an equivalent internal drive, but performance and reliability have been good. Very good price when on-sale.

I initially bought this on amazon but Best Buy offered more storage for a lower price. Got an extra 2TB of storage for free basically with their Black Friday deal. It works as intended and I was able to back up everything. I also hooked it up to a smart plug so I can leave it plugged into my pc and turn it on with my phone instead of having to plug it in every time. Really worth the price!

Slow and power down to frequently. When connected and not being used spins down to save power and must spin up to get access so slows down reads/writes to the unit.

Own multiple of these hard drives, oldest being about 5 years old. Never had a problem using them as external storage and backup. They have lasted longer than my WD My Book external hard drives that have been popping up errors after about 4 years. Would recommend to anyone needing an external drive for moving bulk data around or for storage.

Using this for NAS backup. It seems to be fine. No trouble with the formatting or speed. It does generate a low hum which, when put in the middle of a desk, made the whole top of the desk hum. The problem was resolved by placing the unit near a corner of the desk.

Just what i needed for a large file backup. Easy to set up and comes with nice tools to monitor drive health. One star off because it is very loud. Price was great.

I love seagate, but this is the noisiest drive I have ever owned. It makes that scratching noise you never want to hear from a drive. However, I am told by seagate that it is jsut a "louder drive".

I had 2 14TB Western Digital external drives on my computer. 1 for regular use and 1 for backup. They ran constantly. They both died within a few days of each other. The drive still spun up, but the interface was dead. I bought 2 of these Seagate drives been running continuously for twice as long as the Western Digital drives without a hiccup.

Seems pretty reliable after 3 weeks of use. Write speeds are decent. It can make some interesting electrical/mechanical noises but do not be alarmed. Using it to keep backups of infrequently used data. 14 TB version is quite spacious.
