Customers recognize the Expansion 20TB External Hard Drive for its substantial storage capacity and satisfactory overall performance. While some appreciate its pre-formatted ExFAT for broad compatibility, others have concerns about the drive's write speeds and connectivity limitations. The noise level is acceptable for most users.

This is an excellent drive. It has a massive amount of storage space. The drive makes a little bit of noise when you retrieve files from it, but it's not too bad. The only bad thing is it requires you to plug in the drive, so you will need a nearby power outlet.

Good but has it's issues as well.
First the good: It is reasonable fast, though not as fast as I expected. File transfers are relaible and it seems to be as study as any other desktop drive I have used. I generally find that Seagate drives can be trusted, so I admit a bit of bias. Form factor fits well on a desk or is reasonably portable.
The Bad: It's LOUD! I mean, REALLY LOUD. it take a while to spin up and generally holds things up if expectedto be kept attached to system and available at startup.
As for the noise, well, it's more the clunking and thumping upon access that gets to me after a while.
All in all it seems solid and good value. BUT it definitely needs to be a bit quieter and access quicker.

Mechanical, large, but reliable so far. Sometimes slightly slow, loud, mechanical hard disk drive platter reading. Retained the files I copied so far (not even a month) so that's good! Has power adapter like old style external drives from 2000's
Know HDD Vs SSD - HDD is for longterm reliable mem

The build quality is great, though you may want to switch to SSD if you need to rapidly backup something. This is great as a backup storage. Make sure the power supply is connected to UPS power. You don't want to loose power while copying large files

So far this is a good back-up hard drive for my photography business. I use two of these to back-up my photography jobs, as an “A” and a “B” set of drives. These hard drives are a little noisier than the lower capacity drives (8 TB) that I’ve had in previous years. These 20TB drives I hope to last me around 4 or so years for backing ip my work. I’ve used Seagate hard drives and had good luck with them for 15 years and I trust they’ll continue to do so. Note: I’m an Apple computer user, so I erase the drives before using them and don’t have any experience with some of the added features of the drives.

Large external storage device, a little slow for copying large amount of files. A little slow when trying to backup, but so far no problems with the drive.

This is a typical large hard drive. I have found this one to be a little quieter than my last one. Being able to back up 20 TB of data at this price without going to a RAID system is very nice
I would recommend this to a friend

I bought the Seagate Expansion 20TB External USB 3.0 to store all my photos and backups, and it has been fantastic. Setup was plug-and-play—just connect and go. Transfer speeds over USB 3.0 are fast and reliable, and the massive 20TB capacity means I don’t have to worry about running out of space anytime soon.

It's good bang for your buck when your chasing bulk storage. However I have had one fail with less than 6 months of on time. Always follow the 3 - 2 - 1 for backing up days and you'll be ok. Note these only have a 1 year mfg warranty.

I've had issues with Seagate drives failing in the past, but it seems like most of the prevailing issues have been fixed in 2025. As a video editor I use this 20TB drive mostly as a backup to hold video files so the number 1 thing I look for is reliability and longevity. Both have been great (so far).

I am happy with the drive so far, it is quiet but because the write speed is consistently comes in at 70 to 80 mbps with large files i am giving it 4 stars. Will wait to see about longevity.
