DOA - clicks, but no spin up.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First one dead on arrival. Just clicks, and doesn't spin up or get recognized by any of my computers. Research suggests the heads are stuck. Will try to exchange for another. First time giving Seagate another chance in years and it's not going well so far. Will update if the replacement works.

Defective
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initial check of the drive with CrystalDiskInfo showed an abnormally high seek and react disk error rate. The drive was extremely slow. Returned as defective. Hope that the replacement doesn't have these problems.

Horrible write speeds issues out of the box
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Horrible write speeds out of the box, and I'm just a few days past the return window. Best buy won't honor a replacement or a return. Do not buy Best Buy or this drive. If you do decide to purchase this drive go through Amazon because their customer service and return policies are way better. Honestly, I don't understand why anyone shops Best Buy anymore with how bad their customer service and product support is.

Defective
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried it on many devices and Windows 10, 11, Ubuntu and MacOS. It did not get recognized. The farthest I got was on windows, on Device Manager it was being detected as a USB storage but it did not show up in Disk Management. It did once show up in the Disk Management, but I was not able to format it, it gave an error and it never got detected again. I suspect the issue might have been the cable, but I do not have another micro B usb 3 cable, so I decided to return it. I also tried to check whether it did get detected in BIOS or not but unfortunately restarting pc while it was plugged in, caused the PC to freeze and not boot. I forgot to test Diskpart, it tends to be more powerful than Disk Management, but now it is packed for return and I am not going to re-open it. They should have made sure everything works fine when it is plugged in especially when they are charging 250$ for it.

DOA Another head issue. Clicking.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Started copying over files but starting clicking and clearly has head issues after just a few minutes. Tried running chkdsk /f /r and it would start and heads would click after a minute or so and freeze up. Now I have to waste my limited time returning it. Would be very hesitant to trust this with my data at this point.

DOA - Drive not recognized, USB device failure
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Drive came DOA. Unpacked box and there was a rattling in the case. Powered the drive on and windows says there was a USB device failure. Tried a different plug and cable that I had at home with the same result. Attempting an exchange with higher hopes for the next one.

Lots of storage at great value
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the 20TB version of the Seagate Expansion Drive. Its a massive 20tb 3.5" drive that comes in a well ventilated plastic case. The case has rubber feet that provides grip and helps dampen vibrations. Like most traditional spinning drives, it requires a few seconds to spin up initially, but once running, it performs reliably. The drive comes pre-formatted ExFAT for wider compatibility. I reformatted it to a different filesystem type for better performance with larger size drives. After formatting, it shows just over 18TB of usable space which is expected. One small improvement I eventually made was swapping the included USB cable for a USB-C version, which freed up a standard USB port on my system. This drive excels for both backups and media hording. I use it for both purposes and it handles them perfectly. My only con is that it is a little louder than my older one when writing but I think thats just because its a larger drive. While we may eventually see affordable 20TB SSDs in the future, this hard drive delivers excellent value and performance for now.

Failed after 1 month
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Failed a little over a month after purchase. Used as a backup. It was working fine at first. Today, it decided not to recognize the 20tb hard drive. Now I have to go through the manufacturer.

Massive amount of storage!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m very happy with this Seagate Expansion 20TB hard drive. The amount of storage space is incredible. I’m big into photography so I like having multiple backup drives so I can be assured I won’t somehow loose years and years of images. This drive currently has 10 years worth of large RAW files stored on it and it’s not even half full. And keep in mind I have a LOT of photos from those 10 years. Keeping in mind that this is a spinning USB 3.0 drive and not an SSD, the speed of the drive is much better than I expected. I’m using it as a back up drive so I don’t need it to have blazing SSD speeds. Besides, it’s always a good idea to have important files backed up onto at least one physical hard drive. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised that it is relatively quiet. It’s not completely noiseless, but compared to other similar drives I have it is much quieter. It is a simple design that is meant to be used on a desk or somewhere it won’t be moved around a lot. It’s just a simple black plastic housing that doesn’t feel like it would last long being bounced around. So as long as you plan to set it up and leave it in place it should last a long time. Overall I’m pleased with it and highly recommend it.
