Customers are saying

Customers recognize the Expansion 20TB External Hard Drive for its substantial storage capacity and satisfactory overall performance. While some appreciate its pre-formatted ExFAT for broad compatibility, others have concerns about the drive's write speeds and connectivity limitations. The noise level is acceptable for most users.

20TB of mass storage for all the things you want to hang on to but don't need to access daily. Well just shy of 20TB in reality, but I'll not bicker over that, it's how storage has been advertised since the beginning. Close enough. There's really no special sauce here, it's a Hard Disk Drive, in an enclosure, with an USB 3.0 interface and it's own power adaptor. Use it for backup, a massive games library of older games that don't rely so heavily on the speed of an SSD to get passable performance. All the photos you have ever taken in your life? Home movies? Honestly whatever you want. Speed of the drive is nothing amazing, it's an older spinning rust actual Hard Drive, not a high capacity Solid State Drive. So remember that going n, this is for mass storage, your not going to have a great time if your expecting this to be your drive for editing 4k video or something. If you have a newer router with a USB 3 port on it you can set it up as a network storage, or as I've seen people do, crack it open and just use the drive inside directly in a computer or NAS if you must. As it is however, it's a good simple solution for someone who just needs a good place to dump their files that isn't the cloud. (Someone Else's Computer.) I'm going through and backing up a lot of data to clear out storage on my computers to this drive now. Installers, game backups fro steam/gog etc. It's nice to know I have plenty of space for things.

I'm a digital packrat. I'm constantly in the market for more digital storage for my digital media. I do a fair amount of photo and video editing, and I have terabytes worth of files that I'm constantly shuffling between devices. I'm also a gamer, and I have some massive game installs eating up hard drive space. This external drive is an absolute godsend. Up until now, my files have been backed up across a patchwork set of 1TB - 4TB external hard drives. I have one drive for video files, one drive for movies, another drive for game files, and still another drive for various documents and forms. Don't even get me started on redundant backups. I have a couple extra drives to backup absolutely critical files. But by and large, my files are a mess, and I'm constantly at risk of losing something. This drive fixes all of that. This drive is large enough that I was able to consolidate all of my files into one spot. This is now my "primary" drive, and my hodgepodge collection of smaller drives are now my "backups." Even better, I have room to spare. This drive is an absolute game-changer for me. I finally have control over my digital life.

To the reviewers that are saying bad things

I saw one person say they weren’t getting full 20tb….. that’s normal lol. You always lose 10 percent of drive capacity for the file allocation table (table of contents) so that low score was unfair.

They were on sale and i wanted to replace my two 14tb hhd's because they had been filled up to red, with some 20s. so i bought two, shucked one(its a barracuda)put it in my pc and used the other for its back up. I had no issues tranferring my data to either one and they are working fine for what i needed which is just place to archive my 20 years worth of collected television shows and series.

    20TB not 20TiB

Drive is fine. Good for shucking. Ignore the guy saying it's only 18.6TB. Windows uses TiB (Tebibytes) instead of TB (Terabytes) but has always shown TB. This is why a 2TB drive shows 1.8TB and a 20TB drive shows 18TB. It's not the fault of this particular drive and will happen with ANY drive you buy. The bigger the drive, the bigger the perceived loss.

I purchased the 20TB model at a really good price. However it just died after I had copied a lot of data to it. Lasted 2 weeks

    Piece of garbage from Seagate.

Failing right out of the brand new box. Obviously, very poor quality control at Seagate. All it does is click loudly and hard every time I try to access it. Ran S.M.A.R.T. test on it and see the read error rate going up and up and up. Avoid this 20TB Seagate drive at all costs. I now see a bunch of other reviews for this same drive mentioning the same problems.
