    So far, great sleep! Easy...

I tried waiting a bit to write this review, given it is a bed, and it is going to take some time to truly “know,” but, so far, this bed has been great! I have never had a “bed in a box” before, but I like this overall experience quite a bit more. While the box is “big” compared to other things (and is around 80lbs), when you compare that to finding, buying and getting a mattress back home…the whole thing is kind of priceless. Very easy. There is a nice set of instructions on how to get started and set-up and I had no issues along the way. It is pretty crazy how the mattress comes to life once all the packaging is removed. It is suggested to wait a day or two for the mattress to fully recover and to air out, but I did not notice any smell, and gave it just under a day. This was partly due to my space and partly because I was so excited. As for the mattress, it seems well-built, is soft to the touch and has both some firmness as well as give. It is kind of hard to explain, especially as someone who has had “standard” beds for most of my life. When you first get in, you sink down, but then you are kind of held by the mattress. Along those same lines, it is not overly firm, but there is support. While that was quite noticeable, even more noticeable was how little other parts of the bed move when you do. That is very new to me, and I very much like it. In nearly every way, the sleeping has been great. I don’t really have trouble sleeping, but there always was an occasional wake-up or some soreness the next day; but, so far with this mattress, I have been having rock solid, coma-like sleep each night. I was a little worried there would be soreness from my body adjusting etc…but, none so far. Perhaps this is common, I don’t know. I sleep on my side as well as my stomach, and I think this system is perfect for me, as I feel better supported in these positions than I did with my old mattress. I mentioned it above, but the movement isolation is another definite improvement. Not waking up a partner or being woken in bed is extremely welcome. Lastly, it is just quiet. Silence. Ultimately, I really like this bed. The experience, from shipment to set-up is so much better and convenient than I have dealt with in the past. Most importantly, I could not be happier with how I have slept. I know this is an individual thing, but I think with what they have done here they have set most up for a similar experience.

Off-gassing problem and no edge support

The To Go product line simply signifies that the mattress is packaged to be moved into your home in a very compact way. It's packed in a way that it should fit in the back seat of most cars. The Mattress arrived in a roughly 18"x18"x45" box. The whole package weighs about 85 pounds, so it's not the most convenient thing to lug around the house. After opening one end, I highly recommend flipping the open end down and letting gravity help get the mattress out of the box. The mattress is in a vacuum sealed bag folded in half and then rolled up. To keep it rolled up, they've cling wrapped it. To be safe, I highly recommend working backwards from that. Don't use scissors or a sharp object to cut through the wrapping, otherwise the mattress might decompress and hit a bystander. Instead, find the end of the cling wrap and unroll the package. Then when you get to the vacuum sealed bag, unroll it, unfold it and lay the mattress where you want it to end up. Next, carefully puncture the bag and work quickly to cut the vacuum bag along the edges. The kids had a great time watching the mattress decompress in a matter of seconds. The instructions say it may take up to 48 hours to completely recover to the original size, but it was done by the time I completely removed the plastic bag. The construction is a 3" memory foam top with a 4" layer of comforting foam on top of a 5" foam support base. Pushing my hand into the side of the mattress, I can feel the transitions of the different foam layers mostly from the stiff adhesive used to join the layers. Once the mattress was out of the bag, it had a very strong odor. Within seconds, I didn't want to be in the same room. It's off-gassing from the manufacturing process. It tends to be related to memory foam products. I haven't put any bedding on it and left the window open to try to air out the mattress. After 4 days, the odor in the room is gone, but it's concentrated in the mattress. My kids and I have also crawled all over the mattress to try to squish the mattress to exchange the air in the foam. From other's experiences with other memory foam mattresses, some people have gotten it to dissipate quickly while others have had to wait weeks for the off-gassing to complete. It seems to be a luck of the draw, as I didn't read many reviews of off-gassing odors in my mattress research prior to getting it. There is acknowledgement in the instructions of a "fresh foam odor". It says to allow the foam to "air out" in a well ventilated area for 24-72 hours. I've given an extra day, but I'm still smelling the odor. I don't know what the return policy is for Best Buy, but many furniture stores in Michigan do not offer mattress returns. You may get a one-time free mattress re-selection at other furniture stores, but that's about it. Unfortunately, due to the off-gassing problem, I have not spent more than a few minutes on the mattress. What I've found is that there is no edge support, so if you're an edge sleeper like myself, you'll need to make sure you're a few inches away from the edge, otherwise it feels like you'll roll right off. Coil beds do a much better job at edge support. Shifting into different positions is difficult. The memory foam adds extra resistance to your movements. Once I settled into a position, I noticed some discomfort as my body adjusted to the new way it was being supported by the mattress. This is typical in a new mattress and many mattress retailers encourage a trial period of about 30 days to let your body adjust. I really hope the off-gassing completes quickly because the mattress itself seems comfortable, I just haven't spent any significant time on it to make a final decision.

    Instant mattress

Box is almost 4ft tall, and 1.5 ft width/depth. Weighs about 80 pounds, so not the easiest to move around, but way easier than trying to move a traditional mattress around tight corners. And you don’t have to worry about strapping a mattress to the roof of your car to get it home; should easily fit in a typical backseat. Once you get it out of the box, the mattress is packaged in two layers of plastic; an inner layer to keep the mattress compressed, and an outer layer (like Saran Wrap) to keep it folded up to fit in the box. After placing the still wrapped mattress on your box spring/platform, the instructions say to cut the outer layer with scissors. Early in this cut I accidentally punctured the inner plastic, so I decided it was just easier (and safer…) to tear the outer plastic by hand. With the outer plastic removed, you can then unfold the mattress & position it as needed on your box spring/platform. Then you start to cut the inner layer of plastic, but you have to work fast once you start the cut, as the mattress immediately starts expanding. The manual says the mattress may take up to 48 hours to expand to its original size. Mine had expanded the majority of the way within just a minute or two, so you could probably sleep on it within several minutes if you wanted to. However... There is a DEFINITE odor. The manual makes note of this, and claims it is harmless, but sensitive sleepers may want to have a backup sleeping location ready, just in case. That said, I didn’t think the odor was too overpowering, but you’ll probably want to let it air out for a while before trying to sleep on it. Fortunately, I had unpacked the mattress early in the day, so by bedtime the odor wasn’t intolerable. I’d guess that it had had about 8 hours or so to air out before I crashed for the night. The manual says the odor should completely clear in less than 72 hours. By the 2nd night, it was barely noticeable. As far as sleeping comfort goes, it’s quite comfortable. There is very little edge support, so if you tend to sleep right on the edge, you might want to consider a more traditional mattress. Aside from the edge, there’s actually more support than I expected, but I wouldn’t describe it as a ‘firm’ mattress. Still, it definitely provided a good night's sleep.

    Decent mattress in a box

This is an adequate memory foam mattress, but I wasn't overly impressed. While I've unboxed memory foam toppers before, this is the first whole mattress in a box experience I've had. It's definitely convenient to not have to schedule a delivery window, or figure out how to get home a full size mattress, so from that side of things, that's a huge plus this mattress is UPS deliverable. I managed to lug this box upstairs by myself, but it really is a two person job. The box is large, and almost 90 pounds. Unboxing, gravity definitely helps to slide the mattress out of the box. Depending on how you decide to cut the wrapping, you'll need to be careful. Take it easy and slow, making sure not to accidentally cut the mattress in the process. Everything is highly compressed, and as soon as you cut a hole in the vacuum sealed bag, things start moving very quickly. The mattress expands in less than a minute, and has a smell to it. I left it alone in a room for a couple days to air out before attempting to really sleep on it. I found this mattress to be on the soft side for support. While you sink right into the mattress, the memory foam seemed to give quickly, rather than letting you slowly sink into your support position. It felt better as a side sleeping position mattress than a back sleeping position mattress for me. There is absolutely no side support, so be careful of that. I found there was almost zero motion transfer, so it's great if you're looking to not disturb someone else in the bed. I ended up preferring my current mattress instead of this one for back support for me. Laying down on my back in this mattress, I could feel my back muscles pulling weirdly like it wasn't properly supported. Overall, it's a great mattress if you like a soft mattress, and don't sleep towards the edge. It's really nice that UPS can deliver this mattress, and that it seems ready to go almost in an instant. I think Sealy needs to improve their memory foam material a little bit, but that have a decent product.

Of all the things I have reviewed for Best Buy, this one kind of took me by surprise--I mean, it's a high-tech mattress, but still...a mattress? I was curious enough to give it a try, and I must say I'm glad I did. This mattress is very, very comfortable. I've never owned a "bed in a box" before, so the entire experience was new for me. It's delivered in a large box, but certainly not a mattress-sized box. The box is VERY heavy, so you'll need two people to lift it. I highly recommend getting it to the room you want to use it in before unpacking it. We actually placed it on the bed, then unpacked it. Once it was unpacked we maneuvered it into the correct position, and cut the plastic---the next thing to happen was pretty impressive. The mattress seems to 'decompress' and become full-sized in a matter of seconds. You can sleep on it right away, but the instructions recommend waiting 48 hours for it to fully decompress. The mattress itself is interesting--it seems that there is a lot of give when you first lay on it, but then it feels very firm. It offers a lot of support without feeling hard, and makes for a very good night's sleep! I awoke feeling refreshed with no sign of soreness or any other odd pains sometimes associated with a new mattress. As this is my first time trying a mattress like this I have no real frame of reference. I'm using it with a box spring, but believe it would be fine without one on a 'platform' style bed. I also have no idea how long a mattress like this is intended to be used for, or how long it will last. It doesn't seem quite as durable as a standard mattress, so it's also hard to say it's worth the price tag. It's also nice and cool (without being cold) compared to other mattresses, which is a big plus for me. It is definitely convenient not to have to worry about delivery times and set up, etc, though I'm not sure how easy it will be to move in the future should I ever need to. I do recommend this for a good night's sleep and the convenience of it.

    Comfy Mattress for Restless Spouses

First thing I noticed about this mattress was that it was shipped in a box to my front door. Not a large mattress shaped box, but more commonly, mattresses are vacuum compressed, rolled, and put in a box to make shipping them somewhat more of a reality. Unpacking should really be a two-person job, but I managed to do it solo. I managed better than I thought I would. Once I unpacked and placed into position, I couldn’t resist laying on it sans-sheets. Immediately I noticed how the foam absorbed any movement I made laying into the bed. It didn’t feel like my old mattress where, in the act of laying in it, you create a well that pulls anything around you down into it. No, due to the memory foam, I felt like whatever part of the bed was supporting my weight, had little affect on the area around it. As for what really matters, comfort, I really enjoy it. Climbing into bed is a little different due to the foam having a different type of compression than your typical mattress. The mattress supports by contouring to your body’s natural shape and supporting the areas that don’t typically get support due to the way other pillow top beds work. My favorite part of this bed is how little I notice movement on it compared to my old, yet still fairly new mattress. When my wife climbs into bed, I don’t seem to feel the movement quite as much as I did before. Tossing and turning isn’t as disturbing as it once was. I was a decently heavy sleeper before, but still occasionally woke up here and there throughout the night. Now, other than forgetting to turn off an alarm, I’ve slept solidly throughout every night I’ve been on this mattress. My only complaint is taking the leap of faith of choosing a mattress online. It’s not so much a complaint on the product itself, but rather the experience of being able to lay down and experience the comfort before making the purchase. Some may find that concerning, honestly, I’m glad I did.

    Great mattress in a box

The box is heavy, but the mattress is easy to move around in this compressed state. I slid the box to our stairs and end over end up the stairs to the bedroom. I attached a photo of the mattress taken after it was removed from the box. Remove the shrink wrap, unfold the mattress into position, then carefully cut the plastic and watch it expand. I let it air out in the room with the window open all day before putting on the bedding. It doesn’t require a box spring, so we purchased a tall 18-inch base with 16 inches of clearance. We have far more storage space under the bed than with a traditional setup. This mattress is an upgrade from our son’s Twin-XL bed we bought at our local mattress store. That very expensive mattress was purchased with an overpriced “box spring” and metal base with casters. The box spring made horrible squeaking and creaking noises whenever he moved. That experience was a disappointing waste of money. I was looking at several “mattress in a box” brands when we learned Best Buy sells mattresses. Who knew?! We are very pleased with this mattress. The entire experience with a mattress in a box was wonderful compared to scheduling a delivery and installation with people tracking around our home.

This bed is super soft and comfy AND AFFORDABLE. We used to have an air chamber bed from a pretty well known company (cough, cough), and you would think with all the settings I would be able to sleep comfortably without waking up with numbing pains in my arms and/or hips, but that bed was not cutting it! The Sealy To Go 12" memory foam mattress was just what I needed. I no longer wake up numb or toss and turn throughout the night. It is super soft and doesn't sleep too hot. Now I won't say it's for everyone because everyone sleeps differently, but this bed is excellent and well worth a try. When we received the mattress wrapped tightly in it's box, I was skeptical. I was thinking there is no way that something that comes shrink-wrapped in box was going to give me the support I needed to get a good night's sleep. I'm so glad that I was wrong. I love it. The only negative thing I can think of is that after you unwrap it, there is a slight odor, like most memory foam mattresses. We let ours air out for a few hours before we put our allergen encasement over it and before we did, the odor seemed to dissipate. :)

This bed is surprisingly awesome. It was pretty much a bed in a box, a really really small box. I was terrified looking at it htinkin ghow could they have possibably fit a queen size bed in a box. So when you see it dont be scared like i was. We treid taking the bed out of the box on the top which was a huge mistake. We carefully cut it down the side as to not damage the bed and Took it out. The bed is wrapped in a tight plastic and comes with insturctions on how to open it. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS it makes it easier. Opening the bed be carefully not to cut the bed while taking it out of the plastic. Its wrapped very tightly and is uper easy to nick the bed. it unfolded and sprang open to full size. The bed is super super soft! it feels like your layin gon clouds. if you want firm this is not it. it has its normaly boxy frame to it then a pillow like top It is a uality sealy mattress and i would say fo reveryone to try it. Its amazing and some of the best sleep. woke up well rested.

A bed from BestBuy…that doesn’t run on electricity or batteries!? Say what? We were in need a mattress for our bedroom as our current one was running a number of years old. I found it comfortable right away. My wife found it was a little less firm than our previous mattress. She has gotten used to it. I have lower back pain and I was curious if a new mattress might help. It hasn’t, but it has helped with neck stiffness that I had been dealing with for about four months. The mattress, though thick, is relatively light. When leaning against it to make the bed or folding laundry, it is easily dislodged. Not an issue I had with my previous mattress as it had a vinyl type bottom. I’ll probably get a portion of rug gripper to help prevent this. Thankfully all our sheets were made for thick mattress, though they’re still don’t fully tuck in along the edges. It is mind boggling how they compress these mattresses enough to roll up into a relatively small package that can be delivered by UPS.
