This unit was a great remake of the classic arcade console Sega Genesis, they did an outstanding job on the mini console and the games that were added to the mini console were true classics, a great throwback to yesteryears.

I own all the mini retro consoles like NES, SNES, and PS1. Of all the consoles SEGA mini is the best looking out of all them. I just wished that the SEGA mini had comes with a 6 buttons controller instead of 3 buttons. Selected games preloaded on the SEGA mini is good for hours of nostalgia fun. Interface and UI is easy to navigate. If you grew up as a kid during the old retro consoles era, this is a must get as well for the collection.

Brings me back to my early childhood. I grew up playing these classics back in the day. It's refreshing going back and seeing how far we've come in terms of visuals. A lot of my favorite games comes with the mini Genesis. As simple as plug into your screen with hdmi, outlet and you're good to go.

Sega did a great job with this mini system. It has 42 games and two controllers. While I agree with other people they could have added a few different titles this is still an amazing system and a fun blast from the past. Very easy to set up and use and 100% nostalgia feel to it..

Blast Processing! It does what Ninten-dont

My favorite childhood console has returns. It comes with everything thing you need. 2 original 3 button controllers, HDM cable, AC power cable, & 42 games! The user interface is clean and clear. You can customize the list of games from ABC order, to release dates, to number of players. The list is amazing. Though it will leave a few of your favorites. For me I’m wondering where’s Sonic 3 & Mortal Kombat with the blood (A,B,A,C,A,B,B code). The game allows you to save 4 slots per game title just by pressing the reset button on the mini console. The volume slider doesn’t work, but it does move, the cartridge opens, but doesn’t play physical cartridges. There’s a emulator inside just like the mini versions of the NES & SNES. I’m surprised at a few of the licenses that Sega was able to get such as the classic Mickey Mouse Illusion titles. For a couple of the games such as Eternal Champions & Street Fighter II Champion Edition you’ll want to buy the licensed 6 button controller that Best Buy is selling. It was released several years into the Sega Genesis long life span when fighting games started to release for the console. It’s worth it. The 6 button & 3 button controllers are as I remember as a child. If you’re a fan of video games this is a must mini console. Thank God Sega did it themselves this time and didn’t license the Genesis out to a third party. How we must cross our fingers for a Sega Saturn mini & Sega Dreamcast mini.

A great mini console that really takes back to the 90’s. The visuals and audio are top notch and very high quality emulation. There might very little to no latency, hardly anything noticeable to the naked eye. As far as game choice, it has most of the obvious selection, but it also has some great obscure titles like Alysia Dragoon and some odd choices like Virtual Fighter 2, the Saturn version completely tops the Genesis port. Also, some strange omissions like Streets of Rage 1. In the end, I can’t complain much, because in my opinion, it’s one the best mini consoles out there. I would also recommend picking up a 6-button controller from 8bitdo.

After the train wreck Sony PS1 mini release I was skeptical about buying the Sega Genesis mini console. Man, was I wrong! This little Genesis replica is perfect in every way! From the incredible detail to the top shelf game selection! Sega also threw in the Japanese versions of some amazing games never before released in the USA. (Just choose Japanese as the language of choice on the home screen). The quality conversion of the games to HDMI is amazing. Playing these classics on a 65” 4K TV “edge-to-edge” is an experience every game fan young and especially old should experience! Also, take note Sony, Sega even included a power adapter! What a novel idea! So don’t hesitate, buy now because when Black Friday comes these little gems will be gone!

M2 again provides superb emulation. Disappointing that the US version only comes with the standard 3 button controller instead of the 6 button one. But if you want to play classic Genesis games on a modern TV, you could do far worse than grabbing this collection. The collection has most of the usual suspects and is a great introduction to those who never got to play the Genesis in the early to mid 90s!

Finally, a Sega Genesis Mini console worth owning!

While I've always been a Super Nintendo megafan, I've always appreciated the Sega Genesis, too. When I heard that the Sega Genesis Mini was going to be released, I was skeptical. Previous versions of a miniature Genesis always had emulation and sound issues, likely due to the production being handled by the unimpressive AtGames. This unit, however, is produced by Sega and M2. I like M2, and they did a good job here. The emulation is perfect, and being able to save your states in games like Sonic 2 and Castlevania: Bloodlines is a godsend to an old school gamer like me. The interface is easy to use, though saving your progress could be a little more intuitive. The two included wired controllers are, for better or worse, exactly like the original three-button Sega Genesis controllers. The wires are long enough to where I'm not automatically looking for extension cables or wireless substitutes, and the buttons and directional pad feel perfectly responsive. The included power cable and HDMI cable do what they're supposed to do. The console is easy to set up; I was playing minutes after opening the box for the first time. The actual console is, of course, smaller than the original console, and there's no headphone jack or working volume slider like the original. The cartridge slot opens, and there are cute mini cartridges out there for purchase, but they're cosmetic only. The console isn't very weighty, so a child or more "expressive" gamer might accidentally pull the console off of what it's sitting on with a tug of the controller. The most common complaint about these mini consoles seems to be that they only include a fraction of what's available for the original console. This is an issue as more games are always welcome, and some omissions are glaring; Phantasy Star II and III and Sonic 3 would have been great inclusions. Even taking into account licenses that have long since expired, like the NHL or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we live in an age where it's common knowledge in the gaming community that these games aren't large in terms of file size. A single flash drive can easily hold the entire Sega Genesis library. It's always felt bizarre that these mini consoles don't include more games. The games that are included are mostly top notch games that are still a blast to play, and you'll certainly spend hours with the console if you decide to go through great RPGs like Beyond Oasis and Shining Force, but more games would have been appreciated. That's the only thing keeping me from giving the console a five-star review. The biggest reason I purchased the Sega Genesis Mini was for Mega Man: The Wily Wars. This is a compilation and update of the first three Mega Man games on the NES plus some great original content. I'm a longtime Mega Man fan, and being add this game to my collection in an official capacity makes me happy. There are a lot of other games in this console that I enjoy, but Mega Man: The Wily Wars is this console's crown jewel. If you're a Sega Genesis fan or have always been curious about it or about retro gaming, this console is a great way to relive memories or make new ones. While I do a fair amount of emulation, I'm not going to add any games to my mini console. There are tutorials out there about how to do it, but you're on your own on that front. If you're someone who is happy with either the original console or with emulation, this mini probably isn't for you, but if you're a collector, a retro game fan, a Genesis fan, or just looking for something fun and new, you can't go wrong here.

    Important retro history done right

The Mini is unapologetically awesome, and bless Sega for doing this one right. At long last, Sega is rediscovering its groove and reigniting the 90s, which was arguably their decade more than anyone else's, including Nintendo. This reissue is confidently executed, competently crafted, and features 42 of the greatest, most diverse, and even surprising titles ever to grace the Genesis, including some unexpected cult classics like Toe Jam & Earl. Rather than focusing on the software which is proven and a real showstopper in the emulation department due to Sega's personal attention to the Mini, I'll focus instead on the hardware and packaging. Presentation-wise, Sega knocked it out of the park and through the windshield of an unexpecting passerby. The box screams 1991 nearly as loudly as its iconic ads screamed, "Sega!" with a perfect miniature replica of the Sonic Box as it was known nearly 30 years ago. I love this box. The system itself is just as convincing and features moving cartridge port dust cover flaps, or whatever they were called. Even the volume slider is there, and it slides with conviction and quality. I may spend just as much time admiring the proportions and attentiveness to detail as I will playing the thing. Maybe. The Genesis Mini rocks. I can't wait to sink my teeth into the previously unreleased games and blast the familiar and sorely-missed FM synth, courtesy of a proprietary Yamaha chip that has never been replicated. I think this chip should be celebrated for driving some of coolest sounds and tunes ever to grace a console. I applaud Sega for sticking to their guns with the 3-button controller, especially since we can get a first-party 6 button with ease for around $20. I recommend doing so for several of the games, but for 90% of the catalog you won't need it. While many complain it should have been included in lieu of the 3-button, I'd argue the true retro flavor would have been diminished significantly, as the Genesis was born into the world with just three buttons. It was only later in the 90s due to the popularity of games like Street Fighter 2 that Sega's wonderful 6-button controller earned a spot in Genesis lore, and like the Genesis Mini itself, it was worth every penny.

This newest member of the 'classic' consoles is a welcome addition to my collection. Boasting a nice selection of games and attention to detail(s), you won't be disappointed in this one like the Playstation. One of the best features are the much longer cords on the controllers. No need to worry about being too far from your favorite chair or the need for a wireless (if you don't want to). They are also USB, which I imagine will open up a world of new controller choices. The only downside is these are the standard 3-button controllers instead of the 6-button. Since this is a 'classic' system, it only seems fitting and so far I believe there is only one game on the console that uses the 6-buttons, but it is not a requirement. They also made some of the details functional, like a sliding volume button and opening dust flaps where a cartridge would go, but none of these do anything and are only there for the aesthetic. While the console comes with a lot of games, the selection could have been slightly better, however there should be enough here to keep anyone entertained for a while. Overall, very nice and very high quality.

    Nostalgia in a box

Great mini system. A great variety of games. Only issue is that it only comes with 3 button controllers but you really need a 6 button one for Eternal Champions & Street Fighter. So you’ll have to shell out another $20 for one.

A loving tribute to the 16-bit era of SEGA

Though SEGA never quite has as many franchises reach iconic status as their competitors, the Genesis none the less had a slew of genuinely good, enjoyable games exclusive to itself. It seems as though the makers of this mini console were well aware of this fact, and JAM PACKED this console with as many of those exclusives as possible. Unlike offerings from the likes of Nintendo and Sony, each game on the Genisis mini feels deserved with almost no filler to speak of. None feel included just due to contractual agreement or brand recognition. One could argue that certain titles included haven't aged quite as well as others, but this is also a general problem with retro gaming as a whole. As time goes on and more games set standards, the bar will rise. Taking the route of Sony, included in the package are 2 Genesis USB controllers. The included cords are round-about the same length as the originals, but I can't help but wish they'd have made them about doubly as long as they actually are. That being said, an important note to make here is that these controllers are USB and not a proprietary connector, such as Nintendo's offering, thus making them extend is a trivial affair with the help of any bog-standard USB extension cable. Much like all their competitors, these controllers have nailed the exact look and feel of the controllers of days past. My primary complaint with this console is that I wish that at least one or both of the included controllers could have been the later 6 button variety instead of the standard 3 button ones the console ships with. Overall, you get what you would expect. A cute, tiny rendition of SEGA's 16bit machine that is truly one to one with its larger counterpart, down to a (functionless) volume switch that originally controlled the (functionless) headphone jack, packed to the brim with some of the best games the Genesis had to offer, all at an affordable price.

    Great Classic Mini

I had a Genesis back in the day and this not only looks like a mini Genesis but the reset, power, and volume buttons all work like they did on the original console. Granted the headset volume button is just there for accuracy but it’s a nice touch. Console contains two three button classic controllers with an option to add a six button controller separately for the few games on the system that support it granted it’s not necessary to enjoy all of the games in this collection. In terms of the game selection this is where I think there is room for debate. Overall the console includes a good sampling of games with most of them well known that have appeared over the years on various collections and platforms. There are a couple of rare and unique games on this system that make up for some obvious classic genesis games that many feel should have been included. Overall, a solid effort and a far better representation of Genesis than anything AT Games put out.
