Meh, not overly impressed with the sound. Added a sub as this is necessary. The most annoying part is that it just doesn’t work well with my setup. I have a Sony 75” OLED and at least 25% of the time I have to unplug and re-plug the sound bar in to get any sound. I returned one and got a new one with the same effect. I’ve also been on with the manufacturer’s tech support and have no success. I really wanted to love this product! 6 months in and I just can’t recommend it.

I have a Nagra classic stereo in dual mono, Feickert turntable, Nordost power for my main stereo. My stereo is phenomenal, however, it cost upwards of 200k!
That is my perspective on audio...
My Prior soundbars have included:
Martin Logan
Sony HTS5000
The Martin Logan sounded pretty good and the mounting bracket is awesome. The Sony sounded better, although the mounting option - or lack thereof - on the Sony is SUPER disappointing. The Ambeo, at nearly twice the price, offers IMO, nearly twice the value. The HTS5000 would occasionally completely lock up my TV - CEC became unresponsive. Ambeo does not do this.
I will start with the complaints. The only gripe I have about the Ambeo bar is that it CANNOT be set up for wireless networking without using either WPS or the Google Home App. I use Eero products, which rightfully do not implement WPS, and Google Home is a privacy and security trainwreck of epic proportions. What is worse, once I finally was able to get through the setup of Google Home, the Sennheiser application still asked me for my wireless password and wireless network, after I agreed to give my first and second born to Google. That part was a joke, and after that process, I was about ready to stuff the soundbar back in the box and ship it back to best buy.
Now the good stuff:
The setup process is extremely straightforward. After installing the Sennheiser software via the app-store on your phone, wait 5 minutes for a firmware update to complete. Plug in a mic (that looks like an antenna) to collect information about room acoustics, and wait 5 minutes. Then, enjoy the movies!
The remote is golden. Why can't everyone make remotes like this...
The original presentation didn't sound particularly compelling. Sennheiser detects when you're TV is using PCM mode - and asked me to reconfigure my TV (Samsung 2018 QN9F with only ARC, not eARC) to "Auto". My TV has no "Auto" - so I set to bitstream. I also set the output to "Dolby Digital Plus". Then the magic happened.
The Ambeo mode on/off is fairly impressive for a DSP. Having been an audio nerd for 20+ years, I've yet to see any DSP implementation that didn't cause listening fatigue - until now. I wouldn't replace your hi-fi set up in your listening room with this soundbar, but for a TV, well worth the money.
As an engineer, I find the software appears well-implemented and works well. The out of box experience is impressive - 10 minutes from zero to hero is a good win. The Google home, again, needs to go.
The Ambeo has lip-syncing issues, although has an anti-FU device built into the software to fix lip-sync issues. I found the range - 1-100ms to be a little short of what some customers may want, although. I found about 35msec to be ideal. It took me more time to sort ou the lip-sync timing than to setup the rest of the device.
I am now wishing I had an eARC TV to take full advantage of the Ambeo. eARC is lossless, and additionally, ARC has limited bandwidth for multiple channels. I'd really like to see what Ambeo can do with an eARC connection.
I think the price - $2500 - for a soundbar is expensive - although I'd rather pay for German engineered top quality. For those on a budget, the difference between the HTS5000 and this soundbar is a no-brainer. Go Ambeo! (And I prefer Japenese audio electronics to german electronics).
This soundbar is limited to 30hz. A subwoofer (REL is the brand I am hooking up shortly) would be a natural pairing - and can be had direct for reasonable pricing.
I hope the review helps you make an informed decision. I would also encourage you to read the published online manual before making any purchase.

Amazing Sound, Some Bugs

The sound from this soundbar blew me away. I found it needed a couple of hours of use to break in so don’t be surprised if it underwhelms straight out of the box. It sounds great with music, although I found the 3D audio needs to be enabled in order to get a good stereo effect. This is not a product for purists, although this soundbar could teach purists a thing or two about what is possible with computational audio. This was abundantly clear when I fired up the opening sequence of John Wick 2, an Atmos title, and felt the same magic as one does at the theater. When playing back an Atmos source, it absolutely blows away my old 5.1 setup. It will turn skeptics into believers. Definitely pair this soundbar with a subwoofer. I was happy I could use my existing subwoofer.
My only gripes are with firmware. I primarily use this soundbar with an Apple TV 4K but I cannot say whether the soundbar is fully to blame for these issues. When playing back a Dolby Digital source, the Apple TV outputs 6 channel PCM over HDMI. For whatever reason, sometimes the center channel will not play back. This is mostly just an annoyance since stopping and restarting the source fixes the issue. A search on this issue seems to indicate this is not the only brand that experiences this issue.
The other issue I have is with the Apple TV actually cutting out entirely. Picture would cut out and sometimes audio would cut out as well. The Apple TV pauses the source when this happens indicating an issue with the HDMI connection. At first I thought it was a cable issue but I confirmed it was not. Cycling power to the soundbar or switching back and forth between sources seems to have almost entirely but not completely mitigated this issue, so I’m convinced it’s firmware. Hopefully they fix it in an update but that said it hasn’t been enough to make me return it.

5.1 without the extra wires or speakers

I had a fantastic home theater syste, moved and started over. I bought this sound bar to "simplify" and replace all of the wiring, receiver, subwoofer, tower speakers and atmos speakers.
I expected a lot less from this one sound bar.
But... I have to admit, it is almost as good as having all of the above equipment.
Once set up in your home (simply done) is complete, the sound is incredible. The bass is plenty for watching movies, the atmos and rear projecting sounds are very good and the voices are clear.
Overall - expensive as far as soundbars go but less than buying the home theater sound piecemeal.
I tried Samsung and Yamaha and this soundbar is waaay better.

I have tried the 950t, the q80r, jbl 9.1, and the lgsn11rg. The ambeo sound completely blows them out of the water - warm, natural, organic tones from vocals, effects, and movie soundtracks.
*I will admit the marketing for a complete 5.1.4 is a farce. Nothing comes from behind or behind-above me, but sometimes pretty close.*
Back to the good stuff - this is the most theatrical sounding soundbar out there as we speak. I mean i’m not even kidding; the T-REX roar in the first jurassic park is ungodly - so much power! Yes i would LOVE to have rear speakers but theres always one thing you have to sacrifice when buying any soundbar whether it’s lack of audio codecs, rears, weak sub, no side-firing speakers, etc - this soundbars downfall is the rears BUT thats not to neglect the power and sheer ferocity it can produce. The soundstage is massive.
The best thing about this soundbar is you can add ANY subwoofer you want. Ive been holding out because i live in an apartment and i want to use a big ol’ sub not a small one with this bar. Even without a subwoofer it still performs very well. Sometimes youll notice bass missing, but thats to be expected without a sub. Totally would recommend!
Just a fair warning - as with most soundbars really - room acoustics are important: side walls, 14ft flat ceilings or lower, and proximity between you and the bar itself (probably about 8-10ft away at most if possible).
I suggest if you are very interested in trying this beast, put it on a credit card, take it home, try it for a week, and then if you hate it no money out of your pocket and returning to bestbuy is easy. However if you love it - then you are golden!

Bought this to replace a 7.1 system. I was looking to replace it with something a little simpler with less wires and overall better look.
Aesthetically I like it. It looks great. It is a large piece of equipment. If you are putting it on the same surface as your tv you more than likely going to have a couple of inches of your tv blocked.
Performance wise I was really surprised. For $2500 I guess I should be. Listening to audio in Atmos is really enveloping. It’s not exactly the same as having dedicated rear speakers but it’s really close. Listening to opening of Saving Private Ryan is incredible. The bass is ok, but I have a SVS subwoofer connected to it. I think if you were to purchase this you would want to have a subwoofer to go with it.
Overall I would give this 4.5/5 stars. I think $2500 is a bit pricey, but if you have the cash it’s a great addition and a nice replacement to physical surround sound speakers.

Epic sound. Baby app.
The Ambeo Max delivers mind-blowing audio — thunderous bass, rich clarity, and true surround without extra speakers. A powerhouse. But the app
So basic, it’s like a babysitter too busy texting her boyfriend to notice it needs changing. No way to save or name multiple EQ profiles — hardware team built a soundbar for adults. The app team made it a rattle.

This soundbar really blew me away. You would think for the $$, it better cook breakfast, but really --- its the NEW environment it provides!!! While I have a full THX Ultra 2 Atmos 11.1 in my main room, where I put this, is just a big living room, and after it is calibrated, it provided amazing 3D sound all over! [aka hearing sounds from sides, ceiling, back, all from this single speaker! ] QUALITY sound too-- very tight and accurate. And even had considerable bass -- alas, if you want a chest thump, be sure to add a quality sub to this-- I ended up trying value subs, but they only clouded the soundbar! Sennheiser really has a great winner with this product -- wish it only had more tweaking options-- especially since it has an app-- it could be even BETTER if it had app like SVS or the onscreen of the Velodyne DD+ series!
Lastly, its a heavy unit, so you will need special brackets to mount as its nearly 50 lbs.

The Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar is an amazing product. It's easy to set up and the sound is exquisite. Be aware that it is quite large, but if you have the space, you won't be disappointed. Setup is easy once you have placed the soundbar on the entertainment center. Plug it in. Connect your inputs, a subwoofer (if desired), run the arc/e-arc hdmi to the TV and the calibration microphone. Run the calibration according to the instructions and you're ready to go. Note that controlling the inputs to the soundbar should now be managed by the Sennheiser Ambeo remote or app. I haven't used it to its fullest yet but what I have used (music, DVD's, streaming apps) have all sounded great. I have another one for my loft that I can't wait to setup once the entertainment center has arrived.

The Ambeo Max is as good sounding as its claim. Remarkedly easy to set up, basically self tunes with a microphone that comes with it…I have a standalone Vizio subwoofer I can wire to add more bass, but I don’t think it will be needed…There are more ways to fine tune it I have not tried yet..Paired it with the 8K 100inch Hisence TV and my media room is so complete now..

Wow, all the reviews are right on the money with this sound bar. It's incredable. There are some software issues that are happening. Sennheiser is aware of it and working on fixes. This is the only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars. The main issue is we stream everything, seems like Netflix and Hulu the main dialog kicks into mono and is very hard to hear. Even with the sound bar turned almost all the way up. The surround sound aspect is crystal clear. I've called Sennheiser tech support about 4 times now. Again, they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. Sling isn't as bad with the mono effect but it is there. What is weird is the sound bar worked perfectly for about a week before this started. There was not a software update that the techs or myself saw, but they are getting multiple calls on the issue. Tech support was pleasant to work with and my average wait time was about 3min. Once the glitch gets fixed I will update my review. If the mono issue hadn't shown up this would be an easy 10 out of 5 stars. Well worth the money. I replaced my 7.1 system with this sound bar. My old system was comprised of NAD T770 Kef Q series center Kef Q front towers PSB bi-pole sides and Kef Q series bookshelf rears. So I had high expectations this sound bar had to fill as you can see. The surround sound definetly stages correctly. When the center aspect works correctly it almost brings a tear to your eye with the clarity and depth that this sound bar can replicate. I did keep my PSB 12" powered sub and hook it to the sound bar. The sound bar with out a sub does ok but for explosions and the deep effects I like you still need an external powered sub.

This is by far the best soundbar i have ever purchased. Yes the $2500.00 price is a lot but in this case you get what you pay for. I did connect an SVS PB-12plus subwoofer to it and the base was impressive. However one day I disconnected the subwoofer and ran the subwoofer by itself. I adjusted the EQ via the app and i can’t believe just how much base the 4” woofers put out. The base response is awesome. I have used subwoofers on all my home theater systems for over 30 years but no more. I hace owned several over the years and all required a subwoofer but not this one. If yout an audiophile like me then i highly recommend the Ambeo 5.1.4 soundbar. Run the room calibration then setup the EQ using the app and enjoy, you won’t regret it.

I purchased this due to the fact that I am not in a forever home and did not want to install an in wall surround setup in my townhouse. This thing is amazing when it comes to movies and music. I paired mine with an SVS PB-1000 and it rocks the whole house when cranked up. I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a nice immersive listening experience, but cannot commit to a full surround sound setup.

The sound is very natural, contrary to all other soundbar I tested in my media room - including Amber Plus, Arc. It is th only soundbar that provided a clear hint (not more than that) of 5.1.2 sound. I believe it is because it is the only soundbar I know that uses a real mic for calibration. I would keep it but: after I upgraded the software it stopped connecting to my eras LG TV. So, for all purrposes it did not work. Perhaps, I just could use HDMI in in it from eArc TV, but did not try and not sure if it could work. Negative: it is really large and really heavy 0 you need space and 2 people to move it to install.

THIS THING SOUNDS AMAZING! I can't believe the sound that come out of this thing! It is plenty loud, has great bass, fills the room with sound, and is easy to set up. It sounds better than a lot of wired 5.1.4 and 7.2.4 setups I've heard. A little on the pricey side.....but you get what you pay for!!
