This soundbar(when it works) is great, unfortunately it constantly gets stuck in eco mode. There is no way to wake it up without a full restart, sennheiser is aware of this issue as it has been stated multiple times with replies from the customer service representatives on reddit. They refuse to do anything about it, at 1k this isnt acceptable please look elsewhere and save your money

Great sound, but still had to return it. Connected to TV thru HDMI ARC, and had random and unsolvable lip-sync issues that would show up out of nowhere. In some cases the audio delay was full words or more. Connectivity thru the HDMI ARC was for the most part excellent, It was just the lip-problem that made this unusable. And before you ask, yes we did the firmware upgrades and were able to rule out all other possibilities, including lip-sync adjustments on the soundbar and the TV. Do Better, Sennheiser.

Speech clarity was very good. The virtual Atmos was disappointing. I don’t think rear speakers are available and by the time you add the sub woofer the price is too much.

I bought this speaker as an upgrade for my home theater setup and although easy to setup the sound is just not as good as a Bose or Sonos. I had high expectations but ended up being disappointed.

Sennheiser has a great reputation for superior sound quality and so I was excited to try the newest AMBEO Soundbar mini. However, after extensive listening, I have come to the conclusion that in an effort to create a product in the "affordable" space they have compromised a little too much. The product itself is compact and has a satisfying heft to it. Everything is packaged well and Sennheiser provides you with everything you need to get started. The remote feels solid. Button depressions are shallow but provide sufficient feedback. The remote is not backlit. The downloadable app did an admirable job of getting the WiFi elements setup and actually adds some additional functionality. You can use your phone in lieu of the remote. I had to use the buttons on the soundbar to get Blue Tooth connectivity working. The app determined that the firmware needed to be updated and the process did finally complete after three attempts. I then begin testing the audio performance. The app includes some sample clips and initially they sounded very good. In spite of the limited number of speakers (none of which provide upfiring) and the lack of a subwoofer the DSPs did quite a good job of widening and slightly elevating the soundstage. However, there was little to no height effect and I found the unit to be severally lacking in bass. Furthermore, the audio begins to break up at higher volume levels. The remote features a number of equalizing presets - Movie, Music, News, Sports, Neutral and something called "Adaptive". I found the difference between these to be subtle and finally settled on the Adaptive setting as my default. I listened to a variety of audio sources and found that, aside from the DSP enhancements, the sound was slightly "thin". Also, I believe that you will want to buy the optional subwoofer to truly fill out the soundstage. Sennheiser makes excellent equipment and I believe that this soundbar is a bit of an anomaly. However, it may work for you in a very small spaces.

Very nice, compact sound bar, space saving, designed to bridge gaps in audio and surround sound for rooms. It has a nice fabric warp around grill with rubber accommodating vibration feet. The look is overall robust and bold to fit in with today’s equipment to be paired with, this does seem to only come in one color; black. A soundbar of this size pairs well with 55” (inch) TVs and under to prevent the soundbar from looking larger than the TV or as if the TV is engulfing the soundbar. Touch panel on top of the unit is dense and not distracting using a white LED set, nicely hidden to the touch. Center top of bar. Immersive sound handles all various sounds really well with multi-directional sound providing a nice high-depth to 3D sounding experience while listening and watching films. The built-in subwoofers provide a nice bass and feedback feeling with no distortion at various listening levels. Pending the amount of bass you may be looking for, lower levels of bass may not rumble through enough for some. Ambeo mode provides adaptive audio switching between various Dolby and DTSX to include other audio formats for sound towards content being viewed or listened to, with up-mix capability to 5.1 surround. A soundbar this size uses virtual speakers, vice directly driven overhead speakers; drivers. There’s a Smart Control app for device selection and sound control, change equalizer setting for a smoother and enriched listening. Very user friendly interface with predefined user presets, customize your own. Night mode is great to adjust the heavy base through compression when viewing movies, there’s also an option for voice to enhance the lower voice sound making them easier to hear. Running the Self-calibration aligns the soundbar quickly to the room setup in using sound wave detection and responsive changing to better room sound. Within the app, there are more adjustable room settings after calibration to further fine-tune sound. For those in need of having voice assistive capabilities across devices, there’s various assistants available for selection and use; Google, Apple, and Amazon. Overall, this is a really nice everyday, any room soundbar with great sound and easily interface from any device or equipment aligned with.

Disappointed with performance. Periodically turned off on its own and sounded marginally better than TV speakers. If you choose this sound bar adding the subwoofer is a must.

Unit was easy to unpack and install, especially since it comes with the HDMI cable required to connect to the ARC enabled input. I did need to run an update once everything was connected WiFi/iPhone-wise but that went off without any issues. The bar isn't massive in size compared to some other sound bars I've used. It also (so far) hasn't shown any odd connection issues over time - I have another sound bar that occasionally needs a power cycle for it to properly connect to a Sony flat screen TV once again (seems to indicate it is the bar and not the TV). I should probably also mention that I just like the look/style of the unit in general. Sounds is much improved over what I was getting from my LG flat screen TV. As this is not on the 'main' TV in the house, I've only watched news and sports while using the bar. You are not going to get incredible bass from the unit, but I think you can expect that when you are not utilizing an external subwoofer. Obviously you're not dealing with a bunch of speaker wires with the unit because there are no satellites. I can't speak to the use of any electronic assistants because we don't use any.

Big sound in a small package

For the last few years, I’ve been using a small soundbar similar in size to the Ambeo Mini, from another major consumer electronics company. My living room isn’t conducive to a full-blown surround system, but I wanted to get better sound than I was getting, so the Ambeo Mini piqued my interest. Unboxing the Ambeo Mini lets you know that this is a high quality item. Everything is meticulously packaged and protected, which I expected at this price point, but it was still nice to actually get that. Included are the soundbar, remote control, power cable and HDMI cable. Setup is dead simple. My TV supports eARC, so I only had to plug in the power cable and connect to the TV using the eARC port. The Sennheiser Smart Control app is required to connect to your wifi and complete the setup. The most important step handled by the app is to calibrate the soundbar to the acoustics of your room. This is a simple process that is handled by the app, and when it finishes, you’re good to go. The Ambeo mini is about 28 inches long, a little over 4 inches deep and just over 2.5 inches high, making it very unobtrusive sitting in front of your TV. Build quality is excellent, with metal casing and fabric covering the speaker grills. Control buttons are included on top of the unit, and these are touch-sensitive, not physical buttons (I never needed these buttons). There is one eARC HDMI port for connecting to your TV, as well as one USB-A port, but that’s it. Optical sound connection is not supported, and the single HDMI port means you’ll be reliant on all sound coming from the TV if you want it to come out of this soundbar. For me that’s not a problem, but if you were planning to connect to other devices in addition to the TV, you won’t be able to do that. In case you’re wondering, eARC is the latest iteration of the ARC (audio return channel) system. This allows all of the various devices connected to your TV to use the same HDMI connection for audio output, hence the reason there’s only one input port. eARC increases the bandwidth available, allowing you to consume content that includes Dolby Atmos, as well as other audio standards. One nice side benefit that I didn’t have with an optical audio connection is that powering on the TV powers the soundbar. I’m also able to use the TV’s remote to control the output level on the soundbar, which is very convenient. The Ambeo’s remote isn’t necessary unless I want to change the EQ modes that are available. So, how does it sound? The demo mode included with the app really shows off what the Ambeo Mini can do, taking you into the jungle and surrounding you with sounds of wildlife. This is quite impressive. Next, it was time to try it with movies and TV. Obviously, better input results in better output, so I made sure that I tried out the Ambeo Mini with high quality inputs, such as movies and shows that feature Dolby Atmos sound. Movies such as Top Gun: Maverick and shows like Amazon’s The Rings of Power have Dolby Atmos sound and in fact they sounded great on the Ambeo Mini. When you’re playing Dolby Atmos content, the Ambeo indicates this by lighting up the words on the top of the soundbar. Highs are crisp, mid-range sounds full, and even the bass sounds good, but not nearly as deep as it would with a subwoofer. Some reviewers have heavily criticized the weak bass response, but I think it’s actually quite good, especially for its size. After listening for a while with video content, I switched to Bluetooth streaming from my phone. It sounded very good, but I wasn’t blown away. That’s when I switched back to my previous soundbar to compare the sound and was very impressed with the sound output from the Ambeo. Everything was richer and fuller, and sounded like speakers much bigger than they actually were. This reminded me that it’s easy to get used to something and you need to be able to compare to really notice the differences. The Ambeo Mini is not a bargain soundbar. It is priced with other premium competitors, and the main reason for that is the proprietary technology that gives the Ambeo Mini the ability to mimic a 7.1.4 surround setup. This creates a much more immersive experience while watching a movie, without all the extra equipment needed to have a real surround setup. Is the Ambeo as good as the real thing? No, but it provides excellent sound in a small package that you can almost set up without thinking about. I do think the marketing hype about its virtual surround capabilities is a little overblown, and I never really felt like sounds were coming from around and above me. Nonetheless, it is noticeably better than soundbars without this feature, so you’ll ultimately have to decide how much that is worth to you. The Ambeo Mini features several EQ modes, such as movie, music, news, sports, neutral and adaptive, which dynamically chooses the mode based on the input. Movie mode produces an overall rich soundstage that goes with the typical movie experience, while other modes minimize the background sounds to focus on the main sound channel. One feature I especially liked was the voice mode, which emphasizes dialog in movies and TV shows, and it really does do a good job of emphasizing dialog and making it stand out against background music or sound effects. Night mode subdues the bass, allowing you to listen with all the quality but without disturbing your house mates. The Ambeo mode attempts to create a more spatial feel, with sounds seemingly coming from above and behind you. While the effect wasn’t dramatic, I think it’s good enough to leave it on all the time, as the overall sound is noticeably better with it on. In the beginning of this review, I mentioned the lack of multiple inputs. The only issue I found with that is when I used my Blu-ray player. There was a slight mismatch between the audio and people’s lips during dialog, and even though the app allows for some customization in lip-synching, I could never quite get it right. I think that would not have been a problem had I been able to connect the Blu-ray player directly. I’ll continue to tweak this, so maybe I’ll be able to make it better. The Ambeo Mini is a fantastic option for small to mid-size rooms. Sennheiser offers bigger soundbars for bigger spaces, if you need that. I like the “all in one” nature of soundbars and not having to mess with multiple speakers. For that, a dedicated media room is better, but soundbars like the Ambeo Mini are perfect for rooms where you don’t want to dedicate yourself to a full-blown surround setup, but you still want high-quality sound. This was a significant upgrade for me, but I feel that the sticker price is a bit steep for a system that lacks a dedicated subwoofer (which you can buy for another $699). The virtualization features are excellent. Even if they could be a little better, I’m not sure there’s anything else like this on the market.

Massive Sound in a Tiny Package!

As an audiophile, I am always searching for the best sound systems, earbuds, headphones etc. I have tried a myriad of soundbars throughout the years, some were pretty good, some were flops, and then came along the AMBEO series from Sennheiser. Honestly, for a "mini" soundbar and no subwoofer that comes with it, my expectations were quite low. A high price tag and no sub? I surely thought this would flop. But no, my expectations were blown away by Sennheiser. They have crafted a truly incredible soundbar, and to call it the SONOS beam killer would be an appropriate claim by people. Let's go over why. SETUP: - Setup was OK. I did have a tiny glitch/bug when setting up the soundbar. I chose to use the apple HomeKit setup method where it would piggy back off your phone WiFi to set up the soundbar, this seemed to work, then it asked to update firmware, I said sure, then 5 minutes passed, 10... 15... 30.... 45... the soundbar still wasn't working. I said ok let's just unplug it during this "firmware" update and pray for the best. Luckily the power reset did the trick, I was able to re-do the setup (not with the apple homekit method this time) and it worked like a charm. I also skipped the firmware update the first time and did it manually later. Otherwise, it is mostly plug and play after you configure it with the app. APP: - Sennheiser hit a homer with the app to control this soundbar. So many people have tried and failed miserably at making a decent app to control a sound system. But this app, works quite good, has tons of rich features and never has an issue syncing with the soundbar. The room calibration is great, it truly makes a difference in placing phantom speakers around the room. The AMBEO soundscapes are cool if you want to impress your friends or if you want to anger your neighbors ;). BUILD: - Solid build, 7 pounds and small and compact, No complaints there. SOUND: - Here is the moment we have all been waiting for... how does it sound? Well let me tell you, this thing blows everything I have used out of the water. The bass on this thing is extremely powerful for a soundbar. Truly, if you are in a smaller room, you don't need a sub with this thing, it delivers enough low end and a fantastic high end. The AMBEO feature is the star, this thing will deliver a true cinematic experience in your room and immerse you in your content. This soundbar handles all types of sound sources flawlessly, dolby audio, stereo, atmos, HIFI you name it, it will handle it without having to constantly change the modes. I had a 5.1 surround sound system with a sub and rear satellites, and the AMBEO mini blows it out of the water. It does a BETTER job with just one mini soundbar. And this is in a large living room with 20 foot cathedral ceilings!! The only thing I wish is that Sennheiser made a MINI subwoofer. I do not need the massive 8 inch sub for this bar. PLEASE make a 5-6 inch sub for the mini bar, I will buy it in a heartbeat. Get this soundbar if you want a small footprint but with massive, amazing sound.
