I have been hoping for an all in one remote for a long time, we have four remotes in the TV room. I purchased this remote about a month ago and it has solved all of our remote problems. I can do the basics on my computer and ipad and I set this remote up without any problems. It even has a program where I have one button that turns on all the devices to watch TV and one button to play a DVD. The remote adjusts all of the settings for each device. My receiver is a little older and it controls it just fine. I am very pleased with this device.

It’s just not there yet. Tried to replace my Logitech harmony but it can’t deal with the list of devices I have. Not sure it does a very good job at all. Kind of clunky in the way it handles groups of disparate devices. I put it back in the box and it’s sitting in a closet. Perhaps they’ll update over time?? I just wanted it to seamlessly control a late version Samsung TV, Marantz receiver, Apple TV , Fire TV, Sonos and Lutron lighting for 1 room. Not there...

Works with all of my smart gadgets!

    Posted .

I bought this remote through Kickstarter and use this to manage my television, soundbar, apple tv, google fiber, my Hue lightbulbs, and my next thermostat. I love being able to control all of my gadgets with one remote and it always works. My 7 year old will hide my Apple TV remote, and my Google Fiber remote only works half the time. My Smarthugs remote works perfectly all the time!!

Great TV and smart home remote! Easy for Everyone!

    Pros mentioned:
Ease of use, Features, Set up

Review I was cautiously optimistic about Smart Remote when I first got it, but after a week of use now, I’m happy to report that we just put all our old remotes in a drawer and we’re not looking back. I’ve got a pretty basic TV setup at home (TV, AV Receiver, Roku, cable box, Blu-ray, Xbox) and some smart home devices (Sonos speakers, Philips Hue bulbs, Wemo plugs, Nest thermostat). But my wife and kids and I have grown fed up juggling with multiple remotes to watch something on TV and we also wanted a more convenient way to control our lights and Sonos speakers. SETUP The setup was really easy...a lot easier than I was expecting. You need to download the Sevenhugs Smart Remote app to get started and then add all your devices. It found my Hue, Sonos and Roku when I did a Wi-Fi network scan and I was able to add all my infrared devices in less than 2 minutes. I then set up some AV Scenes. These are like shortcuts to control groups of devices. I set up 5 scenes (Watch Cable TV, Watch Roku, Watch Blu-ray, Play Xbox, and Movie night) and they all appear in a list on the remote. When I tap one, it turns on my TV, AVR and whichever media player I selected and switches to the right AV inputs. Instead of fumbling with multiple remotes, we can just tap one button to start watching. It’s now super quick and easy to control our entertainment center. ROOM SENSOR & POINT MODE To use Point Mode, which gives you the ability to point at something and see the right control interface displayed on Smart Remote, you’ll need to place the three room sensors that came in the box on your walls. They look like white hockey pucks and are battery powered (2 AA per sensor). You can’t just place them anywhere, so make sure you follow the instructions. They need to be placed at least least 6 feet high and they all need to see each other. The packaging includes a bunch of 3M Command strips to stick them to your walls, which makes installation really easy and won’t damage your walls. Once your sensors are calibrated and you activate Point Mode, you need to locate your devices. All you need to do is select the device you want to locate, walk over to that device, and hold Smart Remote where you want to locate it. I created locations for a two groups of lights and my Sonos speaker. As for all my TV devices, Smart Remote recommend that you only locate your list of TV-related scenes (what it calls “AV Scenes”) at your TV. My TV scenes includes: Watch Cable TV, Watch Roku, Watch Blu-ray, Play Xbox, and Movie night. So now when I point at my TV, I see a list of all my available AV Scenes and can activate any one I choose with a tap. The pointing technology is 2D so it doesn’t distinguish between pointing at things that are high or low. And if two devices are located close to each other, Smart Remote will display both devices in the carousel at the top of the remote. All you need to do is swipe left or right to select which one you want to control. Once everything is set up (it took me about 10 minutes), anyone can pick up Smart Remote and just point at what they want to control. I really like how easy it is to use. EVERYDAY USE We’ve been using Smart Remote for a week now and it’s completely changed how we interact with our home. My wife and kids are using our smart lights a lot more and it’s really nice not having to pick up three remotes to just watch TV. The touchscreen takes a little getting use to, but it’s working out well for us now. CONCLUSION If you’re looking for a remote to control your entertainment center and smart home, then you should definitely consider Smart Remote. It’s been a great addition to our home and we’ll probably get another one for our bedroom. Just make sure that Smart Remote is compatible with all the devices you care about most before buying. They have a pretty good compatibility search page on their website and have plans to release a lot more integrations and features in the near future.

Easy to use remote that is good for families

    Pros mentioned:
    Buttons, Ease of use, Features

I received my remote a couple weeks ago and was not sure what to expect since this product is pretty new on the market, but it looked pretty sweet and I wanted to give it a try. Set up went reasonably well and took about 20-25 minutes, but I did not install one of the room sensors properly, so I needed to move it to a different wall. There are lots of instructions to follow for setting up the sensors, which I did not read carefully at first, but I did get everything to work on my second attempt. The ‘point at what you want to control’ feature is great for controlling my lights and speakers, but it was not very useful for my TV setup at first. The new software update released earlier this week made that experience a lot better. Now, when I point at my TV, the remote displays a list of all the media player can watch at the press of a button. It’s nice to be able to just tap one button to turn on my TV, Apple TV and AVR and configure the inputs. I have around 10 connected bulbs at home (Hue and Lifx), 2 Sonos speakers, a Yamaha AV Receiver, an Epson projector, an Apple TV, an Xbox, etc. I was able to add them all on Smart Remote without any issue. Adding Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices is really easy. It took me a little bit of time to discover all the features and to set everything up with groups, scenes, customizing my interfaces, etc., but when done the remote does a good job of making it pretty easy to control everything. We also love the new Bluetooth trackpad and keyboard features that were just released for Apple TV. You can fly around the screen when browsing menus just like remote that comes with Apple TV. The most important thing for me is that my family has been using it without any issues and seems to enjoy it. The only thing that’s taken a little getting used to is making sure everyone returns the remote to the charging base. I look forward seeing what new features they release in the coming months.

Love this remote. Always like to get new tech, if I had seen on Kickstarter would have contributed to the effort! It has replaced 4 remotes! Simple to program, when I purchased didn't even realize you could customize. It is small so you have to pay attention when you are making a selection. All in all it is amazing!

Great Smart Remote But Has a Few Negatives

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    Buttons, Set up
    Cons mentioned:
    Apps

I was so excited when the Sevenhugs Smart Remote came out as I had been following them on Kickstarter for a while. Setup of the remote was very easy. Download the app on your phone, program, and the remote downloads everything from the cloud. No need to plug the remote into your computer. This makes it extremely easy to setup, change, and add new devices. I was successfully able to setup my TV, receiver, Hue lights, DVD player, and Apple TV within 15 minutes. Within another 30 minutes, I had configured the remote to my personal liking (customized buttons, etc). A week after I received and setup my remote, Sevenhugs released an update that allows the remote to have a trackpad for use with later generation Apple TVs. This tells me that the team is actively engaged in improving the remote and will continually add new devices and features. This is important to keep the remote "smart". I am engaged with the Sevenhugs support team to try and fix an issue where the iPhone app crashes when I try to access the setup of one of my devices. The response rate from support has been slower than I would like, but I expect they are busy with the release of the Smart remote. Hopefully we can resolve my issue soon. Pros: * Easy setup - no need to plug remote into a computer * Works with many devices with more being added * Feature coming soon (in beta now) that allows you to customize the buttons on the remote * Active development on features and device support Cons: * Battery life is dismal - lasts just a day before needing to be recharged * To get the point and control to work, you have to stick 3 "hockey puck" style sensors on your wall. These look tacky as they are in plain view. * App crashes when accessing a device settings (hopefully not a widespread issue). Overall, the Sevenhugs smart remote is truly the first "smart" remote I've seen. Works well and should just continue to improve over time with (hopefully) frequent updates.

Finally A Real Universal Remote That Just Works

    Posted .

I have been using the Sevenhugs Smart Remote a couple of months and I can’t imagine going back to fumbling between 2 or 3 remotes ever again. There are a couple of minor glitches that I’m certain will be remedied in the next update, but I sincerely believe this remote is revolutionary. This is the future of remotes.

Really good smart remote with a minor flaw

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    Ease of use, Set up
    Cons mentioned:
    Battery

First things first, the packaging indicates a great amount of pride and attention to detail has been invested in the product from start to finish. Everything (remote, charger, power cable, and 3 sensor pucks) fits snugly in place with an eye to the presentation throughout. Once everything is out of the box, the setup is extremely simple. You don’t have to point your old remote at the new one, look your device up on some enormous list of code, or even know your model number. Simply download the Sevenhugs app to your phone, specify what type of device and who makes it, and the remote will present you with a power button. Once you land on one that powers your device on and off, you confirm it and the remote’s screen then shows you the controls for that device. There is an extra step of pressing the button on your hub for Philips Hue lights, but you’re already familiar with this if you have them. Once you have your devices programed, you are able to set up Home Scenes and AV Scenes. These Scenes allow you to record a series of actions on the remote, then assign a name to them so you can complete them with a single tap on the remote. From simply turning multiple lights on/off at once to powering on multiple devices and setting a light color and intensity for movie night. My biggest complaint is also the biggest surprise to me, considering the build quality and design of everything else. The remote sits on its charging base with no support other than the micro-usb charging tab inserted into the charging port on the remote. It feels very flimsy and lets the remote lean to one side more often than it stands straight; not something very appealing in a device that was designed to sit proudly in the open. Overall, I’m very pleased and impressed with this remote, I’d just really like it to be better supported on the base.

I purchased the remote as part of the Kickstarter, where they promised that the device would be able to control essentially every piece of smart home tech in my house. While the thing is certainly a capable universal IR remote, able to learn IR codes as well as devices that cost half as much, the product differentiator was SUPPOSED to be smart home control. To date, more than two years after the hardware was delivered, you can control Hue, Sonos, Wemo, LIFX, and NOTHING MORE. Not a single new integration has been introduced in more than 18 months. If I could get my money back, I would. The manufacturer is very long on promises, with nothing ever actually being delivered. One of the most disappointing projects I've ever backed on KS.

    Smart, simple and versatile remote

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    Design, Ease of use, Features

I have been searching for a universal remote and smart home controller for years now with little success. I’ve tried a few options including Harmony, haven’t found anything that I really like yet. A friend of mine recommended the Sevenhugs remote after backing in the initial Kickstarter campaign. I was skeptical at first, but decided to give it a shot after reading some of the early user reviews comments…and I’m really glad it did. First impression: The level of the design and thought put into the product and all little details is very impressive. It looks great sitting on the charging base, which was a big plus with my wife. Second impression: The touchscreen—it’s the best I’ve used on a remote control and it’s not close. I’ve used a couple remotes from Logitech and also a high-end one from Crestron—they all lacked resolution and responsiveness. The screen on Smart Remote is high quality and really sets it apart from anything else. Software: After going through the setup process, which was a breeze, I was able to add my TV, cable box, Apple TV, Spotify account, Hue lights and TP link plugs in less than 10 minutes. After only a couple days of use, a new software update was released with some cool new features like trackpad control of my Apple TV and the ability to create smart plug groups. I’ve got our Christmas tree lights and a few other strings of lights on smart plugs, which is really convenient. And my wife is really liking how easy it is to turn everything on. She can just point at the TV and tap what device she wants to use and let Smart Remote do the rest. Doesn’t get much easier than that. To wrap this up, it’s been great little product and we plan to get another Sevenhugs remote or two for our bedroom and maybe our dining room.

    Excellent multi-device / multi-room remote

I purchased this so everyone in my family could manage all of my home theater devices, none of which were purchased together nor were well-integrated. It handles all of them with great ease, even two rooms’ worth. It has greatly simplified things for everyone.
