Customers are delighted by the Air Purifier MAX's ability to improve air quality, operate quietly, and effectively remove odors. Many appreciate its sensitive performance and ease of use. The only concern mentioned is the display brightness, as the lights do not dim automatically at night.

Well its allergy season again here in the Phoenix area and this year with the heat and dust mixed in our sinuses are driving us nuts. Saw Shark has the new “Air Purifier Max with True HEPA” available and decided to add it to our collection.
Unboxing and first impression:
The air purifier came very well protected in a large Shark logoed box, there’s only a startup and operations guide in there with it so it’s pretty simple. There’s a tag on the side that states that you need to remove the plastic bag from the filter before using. This is about as simple as it gets, you just turn the device upside down, give the bottom a good ¼ twist and lift the bottom off. Inside there’s the filter in a protective bag. After removing the bag from the filter and checking it out it appears that there’s three layers. The 1st layer is a large particle filter, and then what looks like a carbon fiber layer then the HEPA filter. Putting the bottom back on and flipping the unit over is all it takes to get it ready to run.
The air purifier is almost identical in size to our Molekule, it’s a lot lighter though and only weighs about 11 lbs. making it very easy to move around from room to room if need be.
Use:
This unit is super simple to use, you could just power it up and walk away. The fan came preset to “auto” and will sense when the air needs a good scrubbing and change the fan speed accordingly. The filter is advertised as having “Microban” and it seems to have a slight smell when first turning on “nothing that strong” and it went away after a hour or so of use.
There’s a display on the front of the device that shows air quality “or filter life if selected” which is a nice touch. The intakes for dirty air are all around the bottom half of the device so you don’t have to worry about blocking a small inlet; the outlet is on the top of the unit.
There are controls on the top for Power, Auto Mode, Fan Speed “if wanting to adjust manually”, Air Info “switches between, brightness, “so you can set the light intensity of the display”, auto timer, filter life, and child lock. What I do like is that this device is not connected nor has any connectivity; it’s a standalone device and doesn’t need an APP or an account to run it.
Conclusion:
From what I can tell it cleans the air every bit as good as our Austin, Molekule, Bissell, Airpura, Filtrete and Blue Air air cleaners. The air coming out is nice and fresh smelling and it does a pretty good job of removing cooking smells quickly “especially if run on high or “Auto””. It is quiet on low and progressively gets louder the higher the setting, the volume is pretty much on par with the others and on “Low, or Auto Low” it runs virtually silently and very easy to sleep by. The lighting can be dimmed or turned completely off so it won’t disturb your sleep.
I was also amazed at how light the unit is, so it is very easy to move from room to room using the side handles. The filter itself is pretty large for this size of device. The filter element itself is just a tad bigger than the Molekule, smaller than the Austin Air by a lot “but so is its price” and bigger than the Blue Air. Changing out filters is a breeze , and for the money it’s a great buy, so you may want to put this Shark Air Purifier Max at the top of your list when out shopping for a new air cleaner.

INTRO:
The Shark Air Purifier MAX with True HEPA (HP202) sets out to be an intelligent air purifier that can self-manage keeping the air clean within a 1200 sq foot area.
UNBOXING & SETUP:
When you first open the box and remove the first piece of paper egg carton protection, you’ll find the Shark HP202 Air Purifier and a getting started guide. Upon lifting the HP202 of the box, you’ll need to gently turn it upside down, remove a couple peels and remove the bottom door to access the HEPA filter. You’ll need to remove the plastic wrap around the HEPA filter, then reinsert it and securely close the bottom door. Once that is done, you can flip the HP202 upright and plug it into the wall.
One discrepancy I do want to mention is that manuals from Shark indicate there is some sort of Remote Control that can be used with the HP202, but no remote control was provided in the box or advertised from the outside packaging. I think a remote would be a great addition, so it’s disappointing that it does not come with the HP202, and my own research on Shark’s website indicated that none of the remotes they have listed are compatible with the HP202.
BUILD:
In terms of build, the HP202 is a very plasticky build. It’s a bit disappointing considering the price you are paying, but at least it is lightweight and easy to transport from room to room. The downside here is that I’d be a bit more worried in regard to any incidents where it could potentially tip and fall over if you have very energetic pets or children who accidentally knock it over. So I advise caution in terms of where you place the Shark Air Purifier MAX within your room.
Additionally, there is no pre-filter which means larger particles like hair and dust will be pulled into the HEPA filter and will more quickly reduce the lifespan of the filter. I suspect that this choice was to prevent obstructing the amount of air that could be pulled towards the filter so that they could achieve their 1200 sq ft rating. Adding a pre-filter would cause a change in pressure and would likely reduce airflow.
CONTROLS:
Upon plugging it in for the first time, the power button light will turn on so you can see where to press to turn it on. Pressing and holding the capacitive power button for a few seconds, the system will turn on and the front display will light up and the control panel on the top will illuminate all of its various capacitive controls.
On the capacitive control panel you’ll find the fan control, an info button to toggle between various air quality stats on the front display, a brightness control, a timer for running the purifier between 1 and 12 hours, a button to show the filter lifespan, and a child lock to prevent accidental touches during operation. Every time you press one of the buttons on the control panel, it makes a chime noise, but you can disable that by pressing and holding the info button and the child lock button together for a few seconds.
In terms of things that Shark could improve upon, I think being able to automatically cycle between the PM1.0, PM 2.5, PM 10, % Clean Air and Time to Clean views during operation might be helpful. That way, at any given time, you might be able to take a glance across the room and see how it’s performing. Since there is no remote control as of writing this review, it is a bit more cumbersome to have to walk up to the HP202 just to cycle through its stats.
PERFORMANCE:
By default, Shark recommends using the Auto/Eco mode as it will sense when air quality decreases and will adjust the fan speed to pull in the air to purify it. Once the Shark reaches 100% clean mode for 10 minutes, the purifier will enter eco mode where it will wait for the air quality to decrease before ramping up the fans.
During operation at the lowest fan level (1), the fan is very quiet. When my central air is running in my house, I cannot hear the HP202 running unless I am within 1-3 feet of it. When there are no other surrounding noises, the fan is a whisper.
On fan level 2, the fan is certainly more audible, but still more of a relaxing noise. That being said, level 3 and 4 are much more audible and are more necessary for scenarios where the air quality is going to be below average such as high-heat cooking.
While I cannot objectively measure how well the Shark Air Purifier MAX performs, I do think it makes sense that it is marketed towards a larger 1200 sq ft room, as it does have a reasonably large fan and moves quite a bit of air.
While I wouldn’t trust it to dispel larger puffs of dust, I do think that this is great for cleaning up smoke, pet odors and cooking odors.
CONCLUSION:
The Shark Air Purifier MAX with True HEPA is not the most sophisticated air purifier on the market, but its goal is to focus on cleaning the air in a large room rather than being the smartest air purifier on the market. While it lacks a smartphone app or an included remote control, it isn’t inherently necessary if you leave it in Auto mode so that it can turn on as it sees fit. Operating it is very easy, and it appears to do a decent job at cleaning the air in larger rooms. Compared to many other 1200 sq ft air purifiers, Shark is asking for a much lower price, but also fewer features. So if you’re after something that gets the job done without a ton of bells and whistles, the Shark Air Purifier MAX may be worth considering.

Excellent Air Purifier

This Shark air purifier is excellent for my living room and bedroom. The Clean Sense IQ is a pretty neat feature to have to see how your current room's air quality is. It is super lightweight and powerful.
In the box is just the purifier and a little leaflet to get you started. Do not forget to flip it upside down and remove the base to reach the filter before you turn it on. You need to remove the filter from it's plastic wrapper.
Performance is top-notch. Here in TX, I am deathly allergic to cedar and cats so I have an air filter in my home already to clear out the air. Not only that, recently we have had a huge dust problem with the dry, high heat. When I set up the Shark and let it run, I saw my initial air quality was 87%. Figuring with all the stuff in the air, I thought that was great already. Then I let it run on AUTO non-stop for 3 days straight and it now reads 96%. Really thought to myself, wow, that's a big difference. Went to check out the filter and lightly hit it and a ton of dust just flew off of it outside.
Sound is great. When the Shark is doing it's thing to clean out the air when I first started using it, it was barely louder than a ceiling fan. When the air quality got higher, it adjusted itself to low speed and is not even audible. I did just use the AUTO feature. You can manually change the speeds to suit your needs as well.
If you're an allergy sufferer like me or the air around you is bad, I would recommend jumping on this as it helps a lot.

Breathe Easier with the Air Purifier Max

The Shark Air Purifier MAX comes equipped with a Microban treated filter and advertises that it can purify a room up to 1,200sqft. It’s easily the biggest air purifier I have ever owned, but it’s relatively quiet operation, excellent filter, and easy to use controls and display, make it an easy recommendation for those looking for a more powerful home air purifier.
Specs:
Product dimensions (in.): 10.83" L X 10.83" W X 22.47" H
Product weight (lbs.): 10.91
Some things to note:
Shark advertises two replacement filters on their website. One is a Microban filter, and the other is not. The Microban filter runs about $89 and the non Microban filter is $69. The Microban filter is specifically treated to prevent the growth of bacteria on the filter’s surface. Also, both filters are currently a bit hard to get. As I’m writing this, both filters are out of stock on Shark’s website. Shark advertises a 6 to 12 month life expectancy on the filters, but your mileage will obviously vary depending on the existing air quality and how long you are running the fan.
Experience:
Set up is easy. The purifier is huge, but you must flip the unit over, untwist the bottom of the unit, and unwrap and reinsert the filter into the air purifier. The process is simple and will only take you a few minutes.
The touch controls and the display are easy to use and intuitive. On an Auto setting, the fan goes off after ten minutes of not detecting any particles. But, while running the unit for several days on a low setting, I have noticed that I have already burned through around 4% of my expected filter life in less than a week. I am curious how long this filter will run. The auto setting does work, but by leaving it on Auto, I feel like I am waiting on the sensor to pick up particles. By the time it has picked up dust and other allergens, I have already breathed them in. So, I prefer a low setting on constantly, but that may burn through my filter faster than the estimated filter life span.
On a low fan setting, the purifier is barely audible. On highest settings, the purifier is noticeable, but it’s not “wind tunnel loud”, either. For its size, this is one of the quietest air purifiers that I have tested.
The filter has a color-coded display to correspond to air quality: blue, yellow, and red. Blue is good and during red, the fan will crank up to get air quality back to up 100 percent. So far, I have only had the air quality indicator dip below blue once or twice. One time was on a particularly windy day and the other was when my wife was cooking. Not sure what that says about her cooking, but it tells me that the unit is working and is detecting particles in the air.
Conclusion:
I like this air purifier. So far it has worked well. I’ve tested it in a couple of locations, and it does seem to actively detect particles and impurities in the air. My major concern is the availability and cost of replacing the filters. Hopefully, Best Buy and Shark can get more filters in stock before its time for a replacement.

This a good size single room air purifier from Shark who makes high quality vaccums. Starring from the good side, I can say this is an extremely quiet fan at low and midium speeds. Changing the filter is almost too easy to the point that on the carpet a strong enough twist unlocks the base which is how the filter is removed. It has 3 main spees slow, medium and fast with an automatic setting which I've yet to see its usefulness. It can tell the air quality whoch I'm not sure yet how accurate that is, but I can definitely tell the difference between before and a day after in my bedroom. The included QR code is a brilliant way to add the instruction manual via the web. It is nice and light though the build does not appear sturdy. Its also a esthetically pleasing despite the black color I got which at night is hard to see of it weren't for the blue LED circle. And about that blue circle light, it is very bright in its default setting whci can be,turned off or decreased one level no more. The manual makes a reference to a rempte whi mine did not come with. It would be nice if it did. I can't speak about durability but from my other Shark products I hope it lasts as long. The filter has at least three layers and hopefully won't cost a lot to replace.

I have tried a few different air purifiers in the last few years and most of them work well for the first week, then are clogged beyond use. Ninja clearly thought of those concerns before putting this unit onto the market! Not only is it large enough for a good sized room, the filter is well made and easy to care for, even with a dog. The unit itself looks great and makes minimal noise, less than a medium sized air circulating fan would at similar speeds, and it moves air very well. The display is nice to let you know the quality of the air in your room and offers a few different insights into what may be causing your air quality to be degraded. What I found most interesting is that the unit, placed in the same room as our oven, was able to detect the particles release from the oven and accurately gauge how long it would take to remove them from the air, at least noticeably!
I would definitely recommend this product to others who like to cook and have pets, especially for the rooms that start to make you feel stuffy and sneazy!

We've owned two of these for over a year. We are very happy with them. The filters do last for quite a while. Did have an issue with the sensor on one but followed sharks troubleshooting guidance and it has been fine. Filters were hard to find but have been back in stock consistently. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and it absolutely helps pull all of that of the air.

Initial impressions:
The Shark Air Purifieer Max (P200 model) is a handsome cylinder that stands about 22 inches tall and just shy of 11 inches in diameter. It is just the right size for the floor without being obtuse. But to large to be placed on a desk or dresser. I was surprised by the volume of filter exposed to the outside. Two thirds of the bottom half of the cylinder exposes the filter to the outside. The area of exposure is equivalent to that of a traditional box air filter while only taking up half the floor space.
I like the large LCD display. The numbers are large and easy to read. The illuminated ring may be off putting to some people. This is especially true if you plan on running this in a bedroom. The good news is that there are three lighting levels: high, low, and off. The touch panel is also lit. All the touch settings have backlighting. The lighting levels impact all of the lighting equally with the exception of the power button and the backlight button. To either side of the LCD screen is information about how to read the LCD and the same 3D barcode found on the instruction sheet. I plan on leaving the marketing stickers on the unit. It is useful information. And the presentation of the stickers does not scream “cheap marketing material.”
The unit does a good job of detecting impurities in the air and cycling through the room’s air quickly. For example, this time of year the pollen is so thick that it turns everything yellow. I set the P200 to auto. It detected the levels of pollen in the air and set an appropriate level to reduce that number to zero. In a sealed room, this process was relatively quick. With the window open the P200 would cycle through low and low medium speeds to keep the pollen count within an acceptable range. Obviously with the windows open the count will never be zero.
Setup:
Setup of the P200 was easy. The unit ships with a simple five step instruction sheet. Each instruction is accompanied by an image. There is also a 3D barcode that will take you to the online instruction manual. Setup took about five minutes. I set the unit about three feet from a wall, plugged it in, set the unit to Auto, and waited a minute for the unit to evaluate the air quality.
Operation:
On low, this unit is very quiet. There is a very distinct rattle when the fan ramps up from low to low medium. I checked the unit and cannot find anything loose or broken so I figure this is normal operation. The fan does even out when it gets up to speed. The unit will sound like a fan when the fan is set to medium and high. That’s kind of expected given the amount of air the P200 pushes at those speeds. The fan does rattle a bit when ramping up and down between speeds. As before, the rattling ceases once the fan reaches its designated speed.
The unit has two operating modes: Auto and Manual. Pressing the Auto button, or either of the arrows on either side of Auto button, will switch the unit from Auto to Manual. Pressing Auto again will put the unit back into full Auto. Auto mode is tied directly to the air quality sensor. If the air quality is poor then the fan will automatically increase in speed until the sensor detects air quality returning to normal.
For example, the other night my neighbor decided to smoke his tires. It’s late spring so my windows are open. Before I know it the whole house is full of burnt rubber and smoke. Airing out the house is almost never an option because the stink outside the house can linger for hours. I closed the windows, turned the P200 to full auto, and let it do its thing. The P200 detected the fumes, the LED light ring turned Orange, and the % clean air reading dropped below 80%. The fan automatically spun up and worked to cycle the air in the room as quickly as it could. Within a few minutes, air quality levels were detected to be about 90% and continued to increase over the next five minutes. I did have to move the P200 around my home to hit every room. This is mostly due to the layout of my house and not any limitation on of the P200. Overall, the P200 worked performed beyond my expectations.
Smell:
Yes, this is an important one. I have owned several HEPA rated air purifiers over the years and almost all of them come with a chemical smell that must gas out over time or develop a stink within a few weeks of operation. I have been running the P200 for about a week and so far there is no unnatural smells.
Filter:
The filter is a HEPA filter so it will clean anything out of the air that is 0.3 microns or larger. That’s the standard. It is not a HEPA filter unless it meets this standard.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I am pleased with the Shark Air Purifier MAX (P200). There is the annoying fan rattle when switching between fan speeds. Otherwise, the performance has been great. The filter does not stink. The LCD is big enough to read but not so big as to be obnoxious. The color-coded LCD ring is also a great high-level indicator of air quality for those times when you are not close enough to read the numbers on the screen. The control panel is easy to use. Switching out filters are very quick. The P200 has a handle on each side for easy movement between rooms. I also like that I can turn off the LED and control panel backlighting when they are not needed.
I would recommend the Shark Air Purifier MAX with True HEPA & Microban Antimicrobial Protection to a friend.

Just turn this thing on and let it go. It will be set to auto and that will give you at least 8 months of fresh air. Ans upwards to 12 months, if all goes well. It's beautiful and blends with any decor. It has everything you need to get started right out of the box. Just remember to open p the base and remove the plasics on the filter, replace the filter, close it securely and press start. I love how the indicater is color coded, from poor to fair to good quality, with red, yellow & blue rings. I can't be happier with this purifier. The only problem I have is the $300 price tag without being able to control this mobily. Other than that, this thing is excellent for any room in your home. Just as the box says, it cleans air in rooms up to 1,200 sq ft. And itt can't be denied that it is super quiet. It'll get alittle louder when it's cleaning the air, but not by too much. And it's very worth the minor nouse escalation. I can't say tenough how well this thing works. My kids have breathing issues and tend to have respiritory problems, but that seems non existant when they're in the front room, where the purifier is. i love it.Yes. I totally recommend this air purifier to all of my friends.

This air purifier made a significant improvement in the air quality; air felt lighter and cleaner that same afternoon. This air purifier claims to cover 1200square feet- and it does! I have it set up in our kitchen and, out of curiosity, we set it up in the back room and the air quality was still at 99% just like in the kitchen. My dad has suffers from allergies and this made a significant difference for him. We have a lot of pets around the house and a dirt lot so this air purifier has proved to be a good investment. Also, the purifier is super easy to set up

I am very happy with this air cleaner. First thing I noticed was all the dusties floating in the air that you see in the morning sun are gone. We have dogs and a cat and the shedding doesn't seem to be a problem for it. Breathing is better!
FYI - If your unit gets stuck on zero, it means the sensor is dirty. Just turn off, unplug, vacuum the sensor on the back and plug back in and turn it on.
It's quiet and doesn't disturb sleep when it's in the bedroom. Will be getting another in the future so we don't have to move it.
