Customers are enthusiastic about the CarpetXpert HairPro Pet's cleaning performance and ease of use, frequently praising its strong suction and lightweight design. However, some users noted the small tank capacity required more frequent emptying. The size of the unit was also a point of contention, with some finding it cumbersome while others appreciated its compact nature compared to other models.

Great machine for pet stains or carpet cleaning

Over the years I've bought and used many home carpet cleaners. It's been a long time since I've used one that actually worked as well as it claimed. The Shark CarpetXpert is a great system that is easy to disassemble and clean and also has enough suction to get a lot of the water back off the carpet. A place where most of the competitors fail miserably, leaving your carpets soggy and water logged.
The Shark CarpetXpert HairPro is a great choice for anyone with a pet, especially a cat or a dog. We have a long hair cat and we vacuum easily once a day to keep up with it. She also seems to be prone to hairballs which we have to deal with cleaning off the carpet quite regularly. Using the Shark is very easy. Fill the water tank with fresh water, add the Deep Clean Pet formula to the tank and if you plan on using the hose, spot cleaning attachments, add the OXY StainStriker solution to the separate blue tank in the front.
Upright carpet cleaning
This is the way a lot of people will use this machine. It's best for cleaning large areas and full rooms of carpet. After filling the cleaning solution tank, turn the power on and you're ready to go. The upright has an automatic cleaning solution dispenser system. Pushing the upright forward will dispense the cleaning solution from the tank. There's a sweet spot for the amount of solution you want to dispense. Pushing it forward faster allows a smaller amount of solution to be sprayed, while pushing slower sprays more solution, or more accurately sprays the same amount of solution over a smaller area, so it gets the carpet wetter. To vacuum up the water, all you need to do is pull the upright back over what you just sprayed. Since this back and forth motion is automatic, spraying and vacuuming, you need to be a bit strategic to plan out the course you need to take in order to get the entire carpet. The vacuum is strong enough to get a lot of the water back into the machine and deposits it in the Dirty Water Tank. I find it's best to switch over to dry only mode by pressing the mode button next to the power button. This forces the upright to not dispense any solution, and puts it into vacuum only mode where you can slowly go back over the carpeting to remove as much water as possible. The cord is long enough to get you a fair distance, but I wasn't sold on the plastic feel of it. It was pretty stiff and retained the bends from having it wound up on the cord holder. It may be that this material is necessary to ensure good insulation between wet floors and bare feet, but it does hamper the operation somewhat by getting tangled.
Cleaning with the hand tools
Using the hand tools for spot cleaning is easy because the hose is stored on board. The several tools I tried worked really well and I had great luck getting out a handful of stains I'd been wanting to work on. It also works effectively for any high traffic areas that are always magnets for grime. I used the hand tools to pre-wash the traffic areas before I used the upright on them and it really helped to get them clean. The CarpetXpert comes with four hand tools. One is already attached to the hose. When you want to use any of the other, wider tools, the small spot treater slides inside of the other ones and clicks into place. Very easy and intuitive. When you use the hose attachments, the solution that gets sprayed out is a combination of the normal solution tank and also the OXY StainStriker solution, which you pour straight from the bottle into it's own tank. The idea is that the OXY solution boosts the cleaning power of the standard mixed solution. I really liked using the tools, I found them to be very effective. Spray with the trigger, use the brush or rubber fingers to scrub the area and vacuum up the water. There's a lot of different attachment possibilities to choose from and most of the tools have a reversible brush/rubber fingers or pet hair extractor on them. You can clean the hose after use in a sink or tub by removing it from the upright, or for the smaller tools, you can use the built in Rinse & Go feature. Just place the hand tool on top the solution tank and press down to clean the tool and hose while they're still connected to the machine.
When the DWT is full, the LEDs on top of the control panel will show you so you know when it's time to empty the tank. It's easy to remove and shocking how much dirt the machine pulls out of your carpet. When the “full” level is reached, it stops sucking up any water, so it's very helpful that the LEDs are there to show you when it's time to empty. Unfortunately, the solution tank does not have the same type of indication for when your cleaning solution has run out. This would have been very handy and the first time I used the machine I made a number of passes without realizing it was empty, so yeah, just something to be aware of. I was able to get a small size room done with one tankful of solution. Having a smaller solution tank does keep the weight down overall and that's a plus because it can be a bit of a workout pushing and pulling the upright around the room. The Shark CarpetXpert is actually lighter than most I've used though.
Cleanup
Just about every part on this machine comes apart for cleaning. The beater bar is accessible and is easy to take out and rinse, all the tanks pull off for emptying and rinsing, the hose is removable and just takes a sink or tub to make rinsing easy.
I've had a fun time using this machine and overall, it's quick to use and does a fantastic job of handling stains and cleaning carpets. I never had a problem with it getting clogged with hair or carpet lint and it just seemed to work as advertised from the first time I used it.

We have two dogs at home, we got them when they were puppies, and they marked some places in the home. Which unfortunately, despite our training and efforts, they have continued to mark from time to time in their adulthood. Making us interested in this to see if we remove the scent if it stops happening. I can’t give half stars to products. But this is a 3.5/5 for me. Works in certain scenarios. But not a perfect solution.
THE TEST/RESULTS ROUND 1:
I’ve never used one of these before. Complete novice. No idea how they work. 5 Areas. 1 lightly saturated 4 are highly saturated (main unit). Along with a few spots on the side of furniture, a bed, and other places for spot cleaning (built in hose).
Stains were removed from all places (visually can no longer see spots). In low saturation areas, the smell is gone. But I do smell some of the chemicals left over from the unit itself. Heavy saturated areas are 80 – 90% improved. But not eliminated. All spot cleaning areas are resolved. No stains or smell. Will need to have round 2.
RESULTS ROUND 2:
Second time around. More confident in how the device works. Heavy saturated spots are now 93% resolved. But the cleanup and overall process was LONG. As I went at it hard throwing everything at it. All the tricks. Around 90 minutes between setup, washing, and cleanup. Not worth the minimal improvement. Making it so I’m not sure how much it actually helped with chronic saturated pet messes. Making me NOT recommend for that.
PROS:
- Did great at eliminating dirt, grime, pet stains, and for the most part odor. The dirty bin was truly disgusting every time I emptied it. Showing it does indeed work.
- Despite having a lot of dog hair (did vacuum beforehand), had no clogs, clumps, or hair wraps. Was easy to remove the hair from dirty water bin.
- Built in spot/stain remover is great. I like that I have a more powerful suction/system with the main unit. But then for extra cleaning or spot cleaning I can use the built-in spot and stain remover unit. Which also comes with specific attachments.
- Attachments are useful. Include stain eliminator, mini stain eliminator (comes stock without a head attachment, can clean on the unit itself), pet mess extractor (captures wet pet messes in a separate cup before going through the hose to not dirty the entire system), and pet hair extractor (breaks up and sucks up dry/wet pet hair in a separate cup for easy disposal. Has full filter to prevent going into the main unit).
- Ability to clean the hose with built in system is great.
- Multiple modes. Such as cleaning mode, then drying mode allows for quick clean/dry times.
- Stand has places for attachments. Good engineering in general. Very specific spots for built-in stain remover unit, power cord, and extra attachment holder. Everything pops in/out of place nicely and feels well-built. Attractive aesthetic design.
CONS:
- Vacuum, like usual is loud. But not excessively or any different than any other vacuum I own.
- Did not hit everything on first go. Second time round the suction of the main unit didn’t do as well. Where I had to use the little unit to get a better dry. Which was frustrating and lot more manual than I would have liked.
- I would love to have a light on the front of the unit to highlight what I’m going over. Along with a light inside to more easily see what I’m suctioning up (so that I better know when to stop that). Or more ideally, some way to actually see the front of the device. Instead of leaning over it awkwardly. As after my first clean the front of the device isn’t as clear making it VERY difficult to see if it is suctioning up liquid or not.
- Did not fully remove odor from my heavily saturated old, chronic, pet messes. But did reduce dramatically on first go. Even after a second time round I can still smell it with my human nose. Which means my dogs can definitely still smell it.
- They only want you using their own chemicals. Which I get, but disappointing nonetheless. Pricing for them is acceptable.
SETUP/TEARDOWN:
To me this was a bit daunting, but its actually simple. Overall, time to setup/teardown is probably 15 – 30 minutes (depending on saturation of areas).
SETUP:
- You need to fill the main reservoir with 80% water, 10% cleaning solution. Then they have a separate reservoir with stain remover. Which they report you can use on all things (but recommended to test beforehand). I did not get staining on black bed fabric nor grey/tan fabric of couch. Then you just turn on the device and get to work.
- Pushing forward sprays, going backwards sucks up. You also have a mode to do dry only to help reduce dry time. Which I used and it works great.
TEARDOWN:
Empty dirty water, clean dirty water tub, clean brush, clean filters, clean brush holder, empty out excess cleaner, let air dry. Reassemble later.

This comes with multiple parts but only one thing to assemble. And then route the hose the right way and you’re done. The rest of the items are different attachments for the carpet cleaner. I must say that I am impressed with what Shark has done here. This is a very nice carpet cleaner and has done particularly well in one of my hallways with carpet. It’s a high traffic area for humans and our 3 dogs so it was way beyond time for a cleaning. I would rank this up there with one of those rentals you get from the hardware store. If not better, Certainly easier to use IMO.
I followed the instructions to add the cleaning chemicals and it was very easy. Anyone can use this. Also after cleaning your carpet, cleanup is a breeze. Wash and rinse two to three items (including an attachment) all with in a couple of minutes.
We had some stubborn pet stains from a puppy we got a few months ago and this Shark Carpet cleaner made easy work of the stains. The carpet never looked so good. I ended up using one of the attachments for one of the stains that was a bit tougher and needed a little more TLC. It all worked great. The carpet cleaner is pretty much automatic. Just turn it on and slowly go back and forth over your stains. You will start to see an improvement right away. The dirty water bin when it gets to a certain fullness the cleaner will shut off and you’ll need to empty the bin and then you can continue. Dog hair gets trapped in the bin and it can be a pain to get it all out but I think it’s still a good design.
FYI. Shark doesn’t send very much cleaner with the new package. Enough to get you started but not enough to do a whole room. I ended up using another brands cleaner solution and it works just as good. So save your money and don’t buy Sharks detergent.
Over all very good carpet cleaner. So if you have kids or pets this is a must.

Shark CarpetXpert: A must-have for Families

Even if you have hardwoods, most of us have carpet, rugs, or some type of upholstery that needs cleaning. For me, I have all of the above along with two Chihuahuas and 3 kids. You can imagine the stains, messes, and dirt that we have to clean. I have a couple of Shark Robot Vacs/Mops that I have been happy with so I was feeling good about the brand and testing the Shark CarpetXpert.
*Setup*
Out of the box, the carpet cleaner was mostly intact so setup was fairly easy. I snapped the handle and attachment holder in, wrapped the hose and electrical cord, and I was ready to test. The instructions and visual guides were all I needed. The only thing I had a little trouble with was the orientation of the attachment holder but I figured it out in a couple of minutes. The attachment hose also fits nicely into two grooves that hold it in place.
*Build Quality*
This vacuum is built well with everything snapping easily into the right area. It feels sturdy and the hard plastic feels like it will last. All of the tanks are easy to snap in, and snap out when they need cleaning. There are also nice visual accents to guide you while using or cleaning located on different areas of the carpet cleaner.
*Performance*
I first tested the vacuum on our carpet in the Master Bedroom. The previous week we had a sick baby and the carpets needed cleaning. I filled up one reservoir with water and carpet cleaner, and the other reservoir was filled entirely with Oxy. This Oxy unit pairs up with the cleaner when you use the hand held stain striker. When you’re cleaning the carpets it uses just the cleaner reservoir that’s diluted with water. The unit cleans by moving forward and when you pull back it sucks it up into the dirty water reservoir. The unit felt powerful when cleaning the carpets, heavy but light enough for my wife to handle. I was satisfied with both the cleaning and drying/suction of the unit.
The next test was my couch upstairs. One of our dogs had peed on this couch repeatedly in our old apartment. Even though we had washed the covers, I could always smell dog urine when lounging on the couch. When we moved into our new house we put the couch upstairs in the family room (away from the dogs.) I had been wanting to clean it for a while but I didn’t have any easy methods available until the Shark Carpet Expert. There is a large stain striker with rubber nubs on the end and a sprayer that disperses a combination of the carpet cleaner and oxygen. It also has a small reservoir to hold any dirty water that you suction while you are cleaning. This larger unit is about 7” wide so it covers a large enough area. It took me about 20 minutes to clean an entire sectional couch. There is also a mini stain striker and a pet hair extractor. Each unit sprays the cleaner as needed to help either scrub a mess, or disinfect. When I was done cleaning the couch I had scrubbed cushions and frame, and everything smells much better. The handheld unit would be perfect for chairs, couches, floor rugs, and any type of upholstery. One of the sprayers clogged up while scrubbing the cushion and I simply disconnected the attachment, sprayed the main hose to release the clog, and I was back to cleaning in about 30 seconds.
*Conclusion*
The Shark CarpetXpert is a versatile, powerful cleaning machine that does its jobs very well. It’s ability to tackle tough stains or just freshen up carpets, rugs, and upholstery make it a must-have for families or full houses. It’s like having a full powered carpet cleaner and a portable hand held cleaner in the same unit. I highly recommend to anyone with kids or pets. Surprisingly, It’s very easy to clean too.
*Pros
-Powerful and sturdy, well built
-Attachments work well, especially for stains
-Pet smells and hair are a distant memory
-Main unit cleans carpet like a pro
-Extracts pet hair easily
-Easy to clean
*Needs Improvement
-Very well designed, can’t think of any at the moment, it’s that good

When I agreed to test the product, I had the impression that this machine was something like a wet dry vacuum. It is in a way, but the CarpetXpert is best described as a vacuum device designed to deep clean your carpets and upholstery. You don’t use the suction in the way a conventional Shark vacuum would. In fact, to get your carpet ready for cleaning with the CarpetXpert, you use your conventional vacuum to take up the surface dirt while the carpet is dry. Then you go over the carpet with the CarpetXpert which injects water and cleaning solution into the carpet and then pulls the dirty water into a tank on the machine for disposal. The result is a clean and relatively dry carpet.
The system is engineered to use two different types of cleaning agents, both exclusive to Shark. The agent called Deep Clean is diluted with water when you fill the main tank on the machine. The bottle furnished with the machine was sufficient to clean one 8 X 10 carpet in my living room with some left over to attack a problem area in one of our upstairs rooms. A 48-ounce bottle of the solution is $23.99. Bear in mind that the replacement solution comes in a quantity sufficient to clean several rooms of carpet. The other solution is called OXY Multiplier. It is for the toughest stains, and I was able to use a small amount for the stains I wanted to attack, and I had plenty left over in the trial bottle. It is not diluted and is poured full strength into the StainStriker tank. The replacement size is 32 ounces and costs $13.99 from Shark.
I was very pleased with the cleaning result in my living room. The machine is designed to apply solution as you push it forward, and then vacuum only as you pull backwards. You can also throw the switch to vacuum only if you want a faster drying time on the area you have already cleaned. I found the rug slightly damp when I finished, and it was dry to the touch the next morning.
There were no obviously visible stains on the living room carpet to clean, but the rug had seldom been shampooed, and the filthy wastewater showed just how through the Shark clean had been. For the 8 X 10 rug, I had to dump the wastewater three times before the job was complete.
I had a stain upstairs that simply begged to be tested. Years ago, and I mean several years ago, something spilled in one of the bedrooms that prior cleanings had never dealt with. And by prior cleanings, there was at last one professional job on the room in question, which did not get the stain out. Since I was not even sure of the source of the stain, I was skeptical that the Shark system would be able to do anything with it.
First, I vacuumed the area of the stain with our conventional Shark vacuum to remove the surface dirt. I then used one of the several StainStriker wand attachments to go over the area of the stain with the OXY Multiplier solution to hopefully loosen the stain. I then went back over the area with the main floor nozzle using the Deep Clean solution. First indications were that the stain was no longer visible, but I wanted to wait until morning when the carpet was fully dry to confirm the results. Unbelievably, the stain was gone!
I am impressed with this device! It will take a few minutes to put together, and several hours to learn to properly use it. There is no way to avoid reading the instructions to learn this device, trust me on this. I read the instructions over several times and watched videos before I felt comfortable to perform my first cleaning job. And after the job was complete, I had to spend significant time cleaning the various tanks and nozzles so that they would be ready for the next use.
The results were well worth the investment of time. Shark’s great reputation was further confirmed in my mind, and remember: the CarpetXpert has a five year warranty!

Does really good job cleaning... I have purchased several home use carpet cleaners in the past. This is by far the best. I also own a commercial grade the professionals use for house cleaning. This one works just as well. The only drawback is tank size. Both cleaning solution and extraction tanks!

I have old carpets. I don’t have any pets but I have an old father who loves to spill stuff on it. The carpets are very dirty so I thought I would try to use a carpet shampooer to give it a deep clean. This product clamed to do that.
This package comes with the shampooer and a hose for the 3 included attachments for tough stains and pet stains. It also comes with two smaller bottles of carpet cleaner. One bottle is a concentrate that works with the main floor cleaner. The other is a spot stain cleaner that works with the included hose and attachments. Finally, it comes with a form fitting tray to sit the cleaner on. This protects your floor from drips after use.
Setup is fairly easy but the directions are pretty sparse and not necessarily the easiest to understand, or in the order I expected. Example – I was looking for and explanation of the buttons and a way to turn the machine into dry mode. I expected this to be at the beginning of the user guide. However, it wasn’t. It was spread out in the booklet. The front of the book tells you there is a mode button but doesn’t tell you how it functions. The back of the book has a diagram of the control panel with the mode button and the function display. From that, I figured out the mode button switches between deep clean and dry modes. I had to read thru them several times to get the full gist of how this thing works.
To Start, you add the solutions to the machine. The cleaner for the floor is concentrated and needs to be diluted. The cleaning solution for the hand stain remover is already diluted so it just gets poured right into its container. From there you turn it on and use it like a vacuum but slower. Once you pull the handle back, it is in cleaning mode. Push forward and it releases and scrubs in the shampoo. Pull back and it is in suction mode to suck out the shampoo and dirt. I found the slower I went, the better it cleaned. However, the instructions say if you go too slow, you can flood the carpet. This happened to me once. If you want to rinse the carpet, fill the shampoo tank with just water and use it the same as you would when shampooing. If you just want to suck out more moisture, put it in dry mode and it turns off the shampoo supply.
Things I like:
(1) It’s a fairly compact, lightweight machine
(2) It’s actually on the quiet side for what it does. I thought it would be louder.
(3) It does clean the carpet. Not perfect for me but noticeably better.
(4) For what it does, setup and cleanup is reasonable.
(5) The attachments are simple to use and seem to work well based on my initial, limited use.
Things I didn’t like:
(A) Cleanup may be reasonable for what it does but there is still quite a bit of cleanup to do.
(B) Setup is kind of messy too. Filling the bottles and installing them into the machine, I spilled and splashed more water than I expected too.
(C) Carpet fibers and hair get all over the waste tank and it is not the easiest to clean. The tank has a lot of contours and nooks/crannies. I took it outside and rinsed it with my garden hose. I didn’t want that waste going down my drain.
(D) The shampoo isn’t cheap. This thing is kind of like an inkjet printer. The machine is not too expensive but the consumables will cost you. Thankfully, this is not something that needs to be purchased weekly. Maybe 2x a year.
(E) Foil on the shampoo was difficult to remove. While pulling it off, I spilled some. And got some on my hands while cleaning it up. I washed my hands after that but got some on my tongue when I licked my finger to help turn the page in the direction booklet. My tongue tingled for about 2 hours even after rinsing my mouth for 15 minutes or so. Lesson learned…
(F) The carpet stays damp for quite a while after cleaning. It also has some soap residue. After walking on the carpet while still wet, your shoes have some of that soap on them. Walking on smooth surfaces can get slick. My foot was sliding on my bathroom floor.
(G) There is this weird delay when turning the cleaner off. I hit the button and it takes like 2 seconds to turn off. I’m guessing this is to suck in any lingering solution to prevent dripping but it took me a few tries to figure out what was going on.
All-in-All, the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet with StainStriker is a good product that does what I expect it to. My carpet is noticeably cleaner. The water in the waste container was almost black it contained so much dirt. I can’t say this was unexpected but it was still a little shocking to see. I would recommend it to someone looking for a carpet cleaner that isn’t too expensive and is relatively compact. Is it the best carpet cleaner, I doubt it. Is it good? I think it is.

Many people (myself included) do not deep clean their home carpet. Many of us like to get by with a simple vacuum job and it’s for good reasons. Personally, it can be expensive to get a full professional cleaning of your home carpet and if you want to try to do it yourself, it can be time-consuming. Luckily, Shark has provided a great solution to these worries. The Shark CarpetXpert cleaner is an inexpensive at home deep cleaning carpet solution. While this is marketed towards pet owners and for pet messes, I can attest that this carpet cleaner can be used for so much more than pet stuff. In this review, I will cover the pros and cons of the Shark CarpetXpert cleaner.
*TLDR at the bottom
==============
IN THE BOX/SET-UP/BUILD QUALITY:
In the box, you get everything that is needed to start a deep clean of your carpet, rug, or upholstery. You get the Shark CarpetXpert cleaner, 12oz Deep Clean Pet Solution, 16z Shark OXY Multiplier, 3.5” Stain Eliminator hand tool, Pet Hair Extractor, Pet Mess Extractor, storage tray, and an owner’s guide.
If you haven’t used something like this before, I certainly recommend that you read through the owner’s guide at least once before setup. This will ensure setup, and your first usage goes smoothly. As a first-time user of something of this caliber, I was able to get the entire unit set up in about 30 minutes or so. While the owner’s guide does provide everything you need for setup, Shark does offer extremely helpful videos if you get stuck on a step. Simply, scan the QR codes that are posted in some areas of the cleaner or box.
I have used several Shark products before, and they all have withheld the test of time. Shark takes pride in building high-quality products for the consumer and the CarpetXpert cleaner looks like it will do the same. The entire cleaner and the accessories feel premium, and if something does fail, there is a 5-year limited warranty available. There is a lot of post-cleaning and maintenance required with this cleaner, but I am confident it is worth it to extend the life of this CarpetXpert cleaner.
==============
CARPETXPERT USAGE:
First, the CarpetXpert is loud, the sound is bearable but be wary if you have children or pets. Additionally, Shark adds this as a disclaimer, but I will include this too as it is important: make sure to use a traditional vacuum cleaner to pick up big debris and hair as the CarpetXpert is NOT a vacuum cleaner.
With the CarpetXpert fully assembled and both tanks full, this carpet cleaner is heavy. Someone older or a child may struggle with using the product. Luckily, it is easy to use once you get the hang of it. There are two modes for the CarpetXpert: Deep Clean Mode and Dry Only Mode. This can be quickly changed at the press of a button. Deep Clean Mode will spray the solution onto the carpet as you move forward. To dry, the cleaner needs to be moved backward. Of course, this will need to be done at a slower pace compared to a traditional vacuum cleaner. This does take time. One downside to the CarpetXpert is that the dirty tank will get full quickly. The cleaner has an auto shut-off feature where once it detects a full dirty tank, the cleaner will shut off. As you can imagine, if you plan to vacuum a large area like me, it will take a significant amount of time. Another item to note is that while on and upon pressing the power button to shut off, the unit will stay on for a couple more seconds until it completely shuts off. I was a bit spooked and concerned that my unit had a malfunctioning power button when I first tried to shut it off. Finally, I was able to use the CarpetXpert on some area rugs. The unit will not be able to be used on small area rugs as small area rugs will get caught in the cleaner. It is better to use the hand tools available for these small-area rugs.
==============
HAND TOOLS USAGE:
Hand tool mode is automatically activated when the cleaner is in the upright position and the mini stain eliminator is removed from the holder which has some type of switch on it. There are various hand tools to choose from but the one I used the most was the 3.5” Stain Eliminator. There is a slight learning curve to using the hand tools but again, like anything, once you get the hang of it, the tools are easy to use. There are essentially three basic steps that need to be looped: Spray, Scrub, Extract. I wanted to test the hand tool on something fairly dirty, so I grabbed my front car mats out of my vehicle and went to clean. I have tried cleaning these mats before and had little luck scrubbing out some of the mud and stains but fortunately this time around, the Stain Eliminator did the trick! My mats have never looked so clean. (see images) These could’ve used a couple more rounds of cleaning, but I was in a rush at the time. The most time-consuming part of using these hand tools is extracting the water. Another downside is that air drying will be needed even after attempting to extract all the water. On the bright side, at least one will be in awe of the great cleaning job!
==============
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE:
A minor downside but absolute necessity is the post-cleaning and maintenance of the CarpetXpert as well as the hand tools. The hand tools are the easiest to clean as there is a built-in “Rinse & Go” feature that will surprisingly clean your tools from the inside well. Simply press the tool down onto the grooves (on top of the unit) and the solution will be sucked up into the tool. On the other hand, the CarpetXpert will take some time to disassemble and clean each part thoroughly. Luckily, all the parts are easily accessible but cleaning each part by hand will take some time. Shark does recommend cleaning the unit after every use to avoid odors, bacteria, mold, and to extend its life span.

CONCLUSION/TLDR:
Overall, this is an outstanding carpet cleaner. Although there is a slight learning curve, Shark did its best to make the unit as user-friendly as possible. I recommend watching the videos as they are extremely helpful during setup. The CarpetXpert does a great job of cleaning stains off of carpets and general deep cleaning but it's best to avoid using the cleaner on small area rugs as they will get caught in the unit. These area rugs along with car mats, upholstery, etc. can be easily cleaned with hand tools. Some downsides are how loud the cleaner gets and the time-consuming maintenance required. All in all, this is an outstanding carpet cleaner/stain remover that will not disappoint you! Highly Recommend!

Deep Cleaning Made Easy

I am really pleased with the results of the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet with StainStriker, which I just received. Because of the particular difficulties associated with living with pets, such as hair, stains, and smells, I sought out a carpet cleaner that would be up to the task. In every respect, this Shark model is better than I had hoped.
Superb Quality in Design and Construction Sleek and contemporary, the Shark CarpetXpert's gray appearance makes it a versatile addition to any room. As one would expect from a machine of such power, it is heavier than anticipated. It feels sturdy enough to endure frequent usage, which is great news for households with pets, and the construction is good overall.
A great feature is that the rope is long enough to cover a decent-sized area without changing outlets. Simplified Navigation It wasn't too difficult to set up the machine. Preparation for usage was quick and easy, and the directions were straightforward. I really like how the machine is made to be easy to use.
Changing the setting from carpet, rug, or upholstery is easy, and the controls are straightforward. But it's heavy, so it's not always easy to move around, especially on stairs or in tight spaces.
Deep Cleaning Like No Other The CarpetXpert HairPro Pet makes use of Shark's CarpetXpert technology, which allows for an exceptionally thorough cleaning by integrating a high-speed brush roll, PowerSpray high-pressure spray, and strong suction. The amount of filth and grime it extracted from my carpets, even in heavily populated areas, astounded me. After just one application, the carpets seemed much brighter and had a softer feel. It dries quite quickly, which is another fantastic quality. The carpets dried quickly, so I could walk on them or bring the pets back in without worrying about them. Because I lack the patience to carefully seal off freshly cleaned areas for long periods of time, this is a major benefit for me.
Removes Stains and Hair from Pets Effortlessly The capacity of this model to deal with mess made by pets piqued my curiosity, as I indicated before. With its innovative HairPro Pet function, this carpet cleaner can trap three times as much pet hair as competing models. From my experience, I can say that it excels in this area. During the cleaning process, my carpets shed an excessive amount of pet hair. Fortunately, I was able to catch all of it in the hair cage located inside the dirty water tank, making disposal a breeze. Gone are the days of hair clumps jamming the machine!
We also have another game-changer with the StainStriker technology. On contact, it combines two distinct cleaning agents to eradicate even the most entrenched pet stains. It seems like the CarpetXpert HairPro Pet could magically remove some long-established stains caused by my pets' mishaps in the past. Plus, it works wonders in eradicating smells, both temporarily and permanently.
Multipurpose Cleaning Equipment The many included attachments are one of my favorite features of this carpet cleaner. Carpets, stairs, upholstery, automobile interiors, and more can all be expertly cleaned with the help of the built-in hose and spot cleaning tools. There are four attachments in the HairPro set that are made to clean up after pets: Three tools are available to remove pet hair: a pet hair extractor, a stain eliminator, and a mini stain eliminator. The first tool can gather a lot of hair, while the second gets rid of stubborn stains and pet hair. A pet mess extractor is a device that gathers urine and other pet waste for proper disposal. Using these attachments, you won't even need to buy a separate machine for each surface in your home; instead, you may achieve a thorough cleaning with ease.
Simplified Upkeep The "Rinse & Go" self-cleaning technology makes upkeep a breeze for Shark carpet cleaners. You won't need to lift a finger to maintain the machine clean and clog-free; after every use, it automatically flushes the hose and tool system with clean water and solution. Additionally, the hair cage eliminates the need to touch the accumulated pet hair, making disposal a breeze!
Level of Noise The fact that it's really noisy is one drawback. The noise level is more than that of a standard vacuum, but it's still manageable. I don't mind the noise level because I only use it for thorough cleaning sessions.
The Shark CarpetXpert is an excellent choice for anyone who have pets, Not only does it clean incredibly well, but it also gets rid of odors, removes pet hair and stains, and is very easy to maintain. My deepest recommendation goes to this Shark model for any pet owner in search of a powerful carpet cleaner that can handle the accidents their beloved pets inevitably cause. It changed everything in my house!

Overall a good carpet/rug cleaner. If you are thinking this will replace a professional service doing your whole home, I’d strongly recommend against that. The process takes a long time. My bedroom is just about 200sqft. Add-in the furniture and you really only looking at about 75sqft of open floor space. That took about 4 hours. Factor in first time use, which I can’t say I’m a noob as I have the Shark StainStriker, which is just a way smaller version for spot only cleaning.
So, it takes a good amount of time to do a room. For my situation it is definitely worth it. I have an aging dog that can’t always make it outside. Unfortunately, previous owners carpeted over laminate wood flooring…so getting carpet professionally cleaned is not an option.
The CarpetXpert does not force water/steam down into the carpet but sprays the top of the carpet so its not penetrating down very far.
It definitely worked as good as I hoped it would, but the amount of time it took definitely is a reality. However, depending on how dirty your carpet/rug is can be a difference too. Mine was definitely needing something more than just the spot cleaning.
The collection tank looks large and can hold a lot, but in reality the line to full is about 3 inches from the bottom. It doesn’t even use all of the solution from the larger tank. Which then creates a cycle. When the collection bin is full the CarpetXpert stops collecting, which is fantastic! However, the larger water tank, will not alert you when it is dry and it is not so noticeable as you would think when in use.
So, you will work an area not realizing the solution wasn’t being sprayed. So redoing some of the area. Which added to the time. So, catching it sooner could reduce some time.
As for the operation of the cleaner, pushing the device forward activates the sprayer, pulling it back is only when it vacuums up the solution/dirt. Which takes some getting used to when you are trying to use it like a traditional vacuum…which it clearly states it is not in the User Guide, which I highly recommend reading.
Again, another area that could reduce time of use once you remember that tidbit.
Overall, maybe the time could be reduced by 20 minutes, again depending on the soil/dirt level.
I still have some smallish area rugs to clean, but those should be pretty quick considering size.
Other things of note:
The device came well packaged and easy to assemble. The instructions are very straightforward and definitely worth the read.
One item not covered is if it is recommended to leave the tanks empty when not in use? If you are using the cleaning solution and don’t use up all of it for your task, I would assume you would not want to leave the tanks with any cleaning solution for extended periods of time to not cause the seals to fail prematurely.
Definitely don’t want to put the device away dirty as to not clog any of the tubing and crevices. It does take a good minute to clean the device.

its light weight compared to others I have. Easy to clean after use. No need to hold down any buttons to spray cleaner. Push forward and it sprays and cleans. Pull back and super suction happens. Only complain is the small water tank, but it keeps it light weight so I can live with it.

Impressive cleaning performance for the price. Works much better than a previous cleaner that I paid twice as much for. Compact and easy to maneuver for a carpet cleaner. It automatically sprays as it is rolled forward. Pull back very slowly to really get that deep clean and fastest dry. I vacuumed prior to cleaning and this machine still pulled lots of pet hair that was embedded into the carpet. I will recommend this to anyone. The cleaning detergents also removed all pet odors. The whole house had a very clean scent

Amazing! I have had other carpet cleaners and none have come close to this one. Especially cleaning up all the parts and the hose was so easy. My other small spot cleaner got moldy because I couldn't fully remove the hose and clean it thoroughly but that's not the case with this one.

I've had dogs my entire life. Always long haired dogs. For the past 30 years I've had multiple dogs at the same time. So, I know about expensive "pet" vacuums. I've seen the wife drag in thousand dollar Miele units that in no time become hopelessly clogged. I got robots running around the house. I don't want to think about the time I've spent unwinding pet hair from the rollers with an Xacto knife. Sound familiar? If you're here reading this, probably so.
I recently lost two dogs after 12 years; the house quickly gets very lonely & empty, so the wife & I got 2 puppies, now aged 6 & 8 months. The training has not gone easy, and we've had multiple in house "accidents." Our battery of pet clean up tools was in need of some new technology. Enter the Shark CarpetXpert Hair Pro Pet with StainStriker. I'll give you the quick review - the management at Shark must've given this problem to a high level AI at IBM or Google with the command "design me the best ever pet clean up tool - on rugs!"
Out of the box, the CarpetXpert gives you the message it's ready for the job. It looks sleek, modern, and has a different appearance to what I was expecting. The add-on tools keep coming out of the box - 4 in total. Everything locks together solidly wih reassuring clicks - no wondering "did that go in all the way?" The machine is solidly built, and has the heft similar to what you would get from a commercial rental machine. Except - you look a little closer and see some differences - like extra solution compartments and controls.
If I were to go through all the functions this machine is capable of, this review would shortly become a novel. I would strongly advise going through the online videos - they're very well done, and not only will they get you up & running quickly, they will show you features that you didn't even think the machine would have - like flipping the contact surface of the hand brushes to better deal with varying problems.
My wife made quick note of the "Rinse & Go" feature. Had a messy cleanup? Disconnect the hose & cleanup tool, and plug it directly into the clean solution tank. Voila! - you're flushing the hose clean, and the dirt goes where it belongs - into the diry water tank. No more cleaning urine, barf, feces and emptying it into your sink/toilet bowl. Super feature.
What other machine on the market gives you a base for the machine to drip dry on after you use it? Or how about the two stage tool? If you're dealing with fecal matter/barf the tool has a bowl that will collect that so that it doesn't go through the main hose & into the tank. Like I said, AI had to design this machine.
If you're wanting to do an entire carpet, the machine will spray & brush as you go forward; vacuum as you go back. Amount of liquid dispensed is infinitely variable by setting or the actual speed of your stroke. The vacuum is powerful enough to leave your carpet slightly damp, capable of a full dry in a couple of hours depending on ventilation & ambient humidity.
I was really impressed with all the features Shark built into this unit, if you're in the market for a new machine, the CarpetXpert is hard to beat.

I think this shampooer works well. It’s easy to put together, easy to use, seems to do a fairly good job. The only thing I don’t like is how often you have to dump the dirty water during cleaning. It’s about two or three times per fresh water. Maybe a bad sensor?

Removes Tough Stains and Leaves Your Carpet Fresh!

After putting the CarpetXpert through its paces this past week, I can highly recommend it for anyone looking to deep clean their home carpet without breaking the bank. I've highlighted some of the key components below that I believe make this a carpet cleaner worth considering.
Design & Construction:
The CarpetXpert EX301 is well built and made from a combination of premium grade plastics. It's not the highest end feeling appliance, but it feels like it will hold up to some abuse. I love the oversized handle as it helped with comfort during my long cleaning sessions. You can tell that the maintenance and cleaning process was really thoughtfully designed. Throughout my cleaning sessions, emptying the water tank and refilling the solution tank was easy enough. Having a straight-forward emptying and refilling process is crucial here as the tanks are relatively small. This means you will need to constantly refill the cleaning solution tank and empty the dirty water tank when cleaning large areas. Thankfully, Shark made it easy to quickly remove and re-install the tanks. Removing the dirty water tank also exposes the floor opening nozzle which makes it really easy to clean if any debris gets clogged or stuck inside. I also love that there's a dirty water tank emptying indicator (i.e. both blue LEDs flash) that lets you know when the dirty water tank has reached the max fill line. I'm a big fan of the big tab on top of the brush roll cover. This makes it easy to quickly remove the brush roll to wash it after every use. There's also a neat carrying handle in the back of the cleaner which can be used to carry the cleaner up and down the stairs as you clean the carpet. Everything seems to have been carefully designed to quickly inspect or maintain all of the various components of this carpet cleaner.
Performance:
First and foremost, I'd like to preface this by saying that this is not a substitute for a proper vacuum cleaner (as seen in the Shark label in my screenshot). A proper vacuum cleaner should be used to vacuum debris from the carpet prior to deep carpet cleaning with this Shark carpet cleaner. While the "Dry Mode" feature does provide some additional suction to dry the carpets quicker, it does not provide the same suction performance that a traditional vacuum would in order to pick up larger debris. I tested this alongside a flagship stick vac with a powerful motor and this Shark carpet cleaner struggled to pick up larger debris in "Dry mode". It would pick up some large debris but only when going in the forward motion. When going in the backwards motion, it would just go over the debris most of the time. You also have to deliberately go slow in the forward motion for it to suction it up. Since this is a carpet shampooer and not a vacuum, this was perfectly acceptable to me. However, I felt it was worth mentioning for those thinking that this doubles as a vacuum.
In terms of the deep carpet shampooing performance, this thing is awesome. I have a lot of carpet throughout my two-story home and it's been about 3 years since I got them steam cleaned. I was shocked at how much dirt, hair, and other gunk this Shark CarpetXpert deep cleaner was able to extract. Every time I emptied the dirty water tank, the water was dark and filthy. When you move the carpet cleaner forward, the cleaner dispenses the cleaning solution. As you move backward, it dries the area that you just shampooed. The "Dry Mode" feature saved me HOURS of having to wait for my carpet to dry. In this mode, the cleaner extracts as much as liquid as it can from the carpet; regardless of what direction you're moving the cleaner in. It took a little under 3 hours for my carpet to dry.
The carpeted area near my front door is pretty heavily soiled due to all of the concentrated foor traffic in this part of my home. I was certain this wouldn't come out. While this cleaner did a decent job of getting some of the stains out, it wasn't until I used the 3.5" stainstriker attachment, with the oxymultiplier solution, that I saw almost all of the stains come out. With a second deep cleaning treatment, I'm confident it will completely be gone. This 3.5" stain eliminator attachment was also a lifesaver when it came to my stairs. While the carrying handle on the back of the cleaner made it easy to carry up the steps, the stain eliminator attachment was the perfect sized brush for the smaller surface area of my steps. I also love that all of the other attachments, like the pet hair and pet mess extractors, have reversible brushes that help with the "hairier" messes.
Overall Thoughts:
For a residential carpet cleaning solution, I'm thoroughly impressed with the results that this Shark CarpetXpert EX301 cleaner was able to deliver. I also love the included stain and pet hair/mess hose attachment accessories that use the more concentrated oxymultiplier solution. However, there are a few drawbacks which prevented me from giving this a perfect rating. I really wish that both the dirty water tank and the deep clean tank were larger. While they are easy to refill and empty, I found myself either out of solution or needing to empty the water tank after covering a relatively small section of my living room. I honestly wouldn't mind a larger appliance if it meant having to empty or refill a lot less. While emptying out the water tank is easy enough, there are clumps of hair that get stuck inside the non-removeable hair cage. I have to use tweezers or a thin object to pry them out. Lastly, I wish this carpet cleaner had an LED light somewhere on the front nozzle cover. This would really help illuminate the flooring where lighting is poor. Despite these caveats, the Shark CarpetXpert did a fantastic job of deep cleaning my carpet and leaving my home smelling wonderful! As a small disclaimer, I would like to note that I did have to buy an additional bottle of cleaning solution as the included trial bottle only covered about 3/4ths of my living room. Thankfully the cleaning solution seems to be abundantly available at several retailers. Overall, I'm very happy with this carpet cleaner. If you have a lot of carpet in your home that is in dire need of stain removal, or just general deep cleaning from pets and foot traffic, I highly suggest checking out this CarpetXpert EX301!

Shark is my go-to brand for floor care and this carpet cleaner, SHARK CARPET XPERT/HAIR PRO just solidifies that decision. In the past I’ve had a Rainbow carpet shampooer and a Kirby (both attachments to the vacuum system), and a Bissel. I hated the Bissel. The Rainbow and Kirby both worked well, but left the floor very wet with a long dry time. The Kirby involved a complicated vac head change. Lots of work.
The SHARK CARPET XPERT/HAIR PRO is easy to use and easy to clean. The solution tanks pop in and out easily. And the whole machine operates simply by lowering the handle and pressing a button. Easy peasy! And with the SHARK DEEP CLEAN PET solution, cleaning is amazing. I have 2 cats and a dog. While all are well trained there are sometimes accidents. The SHARK DEEP CLEAN PET solution with this machine cleaned stains and odor with just one shampooing! Almost unheard of! It is easy to use, and the floor was damp but dried quickly after cleaning.
The non-wrapping hair feature is also a huge improvement over all the other carpet cleaners I’ve used. There is no having to stop to remove and untangle the brush bar. When emptying dirty water it is very apparent the amount of hair that was removed, but it doesn’t wrap and strangle the brush bar! It just pulls up into the dirty water container with the dirt and yuck.
I do agree with those who complained about the small dirty water container. While the container is not really that small, the inside space is taken up with a float and filter contraption. It must be emptied often. While emptying and rinsing the container is inconvenient, it is not a dealbreaker because of how well the cleaner works.
Also, it took a time or two of use to realize the “dry only” mode. That function is HUGE! but only briefly mentioned in the manual. I missed it when reading through at first. I’m convinced the dry only mode is the reason carpet dries so quickly after cleaning. At first the forward spray/backward dry did not pull enough water from the carpet. Even with only 2 passes the carpet was still very wet. But switching to dry only pulls so much more water and dirt out! I really feel like my floors are truly clean again!
I highly recommend the SHARK CARPET XPERT/HAIR PRO to anyone who has pets and carpets. Ease of use combined with incredibly thorough cleaning makes this my favorite carpet cleaner to date. Shark, you’ve done it again!

Great product, I'm very satisfied of this purchase, I wish I had a video of the carpet that I cleaned, it was super dirty and just with one time I past by the results was great. The only one thing I didn't like is the small tank for clean water I think is like half of a gallon, and the small tank of dirty water as well, but everything else is working well.

Bought this to clean up some pet accidents that happened with a new dog. It's the first I carpet /upholstery cleaner that have owned but it was pretty easy to set up and use with the instructions. I wish that it had a heater for the cleaning solution but not sure if it is really needed that much if you are not stopping your clinton. It worked well and got the carpets cleaned, so I went ahead and cleaned the upholstery and it did a good job of that too. Seems to have good suction to get up the cleaning solution and comes with a lot of attachments options for all kinds of situations. Next on my list are the seats of my vehicles. I am very happy with it.
