I was excited to try this Shark PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum with Powerful Suction and HEPA Filtration out because it seemed like it may be similar to an older Shark Stick Vacuum that I have owned for years but wasn't working as well anymore. In design it is extremely similar. It is lightweight and much easier to use both in a traditional sense as well as converted for use as a handheld (particularly for those times you need to vacuum out your car at home). The ability to fold down makes it super compact and easy to store away which is an absolute must after every use (it is top heavy and does not easily stay up on it's own when fully extended). The suction is outstanding in every mode I tested with the added perk of the color indicators letting you know when the areas you are vacuuming are truly clean (something that showed me how easy it is to misjudge how well you have vacuumed the unseen debris). I was a little disappointed that unlike the older similar model that I own this one ddi not come with 2 batteries and a charging dock but quickly realized that the much better battery life on this one makes up for it. The 2 accessories that came with it are pretty standard for every Shark I have owned and are extremely useful especially when using in my car or to help with cleaning shelves or tight spaces. As far as any cons...there aren't many that I came across. It is significantly louder than I expected especially when used at max. This isn't a huge deal but was a surprise. Again, the fact that it does not come with an extra battery or a charging dock is a slight con simply because the way you have to charge is a little awkward. This also isn't a huge deal but it would have been nice to have a charging dock for the battery at the price point. Overall this is a great option for a stick vacuum. It offers a good amount of versatility, great suction, and a more than adequate battery life per charge.

Innovative, Effective, AND NO MORE BENDING OVER!!

After using a few cordless vacs over the years, I have two new favorite features, and I’m not sure which one is most favorite. It seems to be a tie. The first is not having to hold a trigger down or maintain a middle position with it the whole time I’m running the vacuum. With the PowerDETECT you just push the power button, change the power mode if needed and go. Much less fatiguing that having to deal with a trigger the whole time. My other favorite feature is the innovative MultiFlex wand. Genius! Shark shows us that innovation is still possible in a nearly 120-year-old product. Push a button to let the wand bend and getting under furniture is now super easy. With some back and knee problems, I really appreciate that! No longer must I bend down so low or scratch up the top of the wand up against the lower edge of bed frames and other furniture trying to get under furniture while not bending so low. The wand on my previous vac is pretty scratched up. That won’t be a problem here. Another use for the MultiFlex wand is storage. Most of the weight in a stick vac in at the top, in the motor, controls, and dustbin. When the wand is bent, the heavier top end folds over 180 degrees to be suspended above the power nozzle. Putting the weight down low helps provides very stable storage for the vac. My old vac propped in the corner fell over plenty of times. I refuse to drill holes and put anchors in my wall for a bracket. Storing a stick vac in a closet under jackets is now possible and easy. Or store against a wall or in a corner with the security it will not unexpectedly fall over. And its short folded over, barely noticeable behind an end table. Another great feature is the implementation of the three power modes. ECO runs the vac at the lowest power setting to maximize runtime. ECO is OK for hard floors with light dust/dirt, but I didn’t end up using it much as the DETECT mode made more sense. DETECT automatically varies the power mode as needed, it has some intelligence baked in. The vac monitors the dirt being picked up. When it senses high amounts of dirt, the power level automatically goes up to help deal that effectively. The power level also goes up when vacuuming rugs or carpets to get down deep. The power also increases when you run the vac along a wall, cabinet, or other edges the brushes and suction don’t reach as well. DETECT worked really well for me and has become my go to setting to get the best runtime for the job at hand with great results. Admittedly my rugs and carpet have a short nap. A deep pile may do better with the boost setting. I will say the varying motor speed seemed a bit unnatural from what I’ve been used to. But I kept an open mind and found the results were very good and the runtime greatly extended, so I soon got over it and am enjoying the benefits of longer run times and fewer recharges. BOOST is the third mode that does what the name says, runs at a boosted level, realy flat out to maximize suction. But this greatly reduces battery runtime and is usually excessive for most cleaning. Nice to have when truly helpful, but I seldom felt a need to use it in my regular cleaning as DETECT worked that well. However, say I spilled an urn of ashes onto a carpet, Boost is what I would use. Boost is very strong; the carpet will be clean as new. And if you cleaned the bin well first, just empty the bin of ashes back into the urn and no one is wiser. Read my reviews for more helpful tips. ;-) Emptying the dust bin is an easy one button affair to dump debris. No expensive bags. The bin also opens wide and is easy to thoroughly clean out well. The HEPA filter works really well, no dust gets past it, never an urge to sneeze. Using the DETECT power setting, I am getting about 90 minutes of run time, 20 more than the rated runtime. But the battery is new, and the runtime is sure to come down over time. The battery is easily removed with a button press. This makes it easy to store the vac out of site in a closet while charging the battery on a tabletop someplace else. Or add a second battery if you need more runtime. Another benefit is that when the battery is at the end of its useful life, its easily replaced with a new battery. Just like most cordless power tools. And much unlike many other stick vacs where the battery is NOT so easy to replace. Other brans would rather sell you an expensive new vac than a far cheaper battery. I like that Shark adds flexibility and value here. The DuoClean beater nozzle works in forward and reverse to pick up dirt, which means less back and forth over the same area to clean, which means less time vacuuming and more time for other things. This vac picked up allot more dirt that my previous stick seemed to have missed. Innovative, effective, and time saving, this is the best stick vac I’ve owned to date. Get yourself one. The design team did an outstanding job. Shark has a winner; it will be hard to beat. I look forward to seeing what they come up with next.

This vacuum is super powerful. So far, I have not seen hair collect on it like other vacuums I have owned. When I first opened it, I saw that it had 2 brush rollers. Both spin when on. One is V shaped which I assume helps to not capture hair. I like that if you can take the middle section out and use the handle with just the brush part. This can be handy if you have stairs. It does also come with a smaller brush piece if you prefer to use that, which makes it great to use on furniture, and in your car. It also is not that loud so you can vacuum at night and not wake everyone up. Why 4 stars from me though. My first gripe is that it only came with 1 battery. Not only that, but they seem to change the battery, so my other shark vacuum battery does not fit. Which my other vacuum is not even that old. The cord is not that long so if you forget to charge it, you will have to charge it prior to using. I would love to see these come with a decent long cord that you can use while vacuuming. This also does not have a base to place in. It does fold down and self stands, but I found myself forgetting to charge this because of that. I would have liked to have a base to place this in that then charges the vacuum, (would be nice to also empty it). Would have liked to have seen 2 batteries and a base that you could put at least 1 battery in to charge, this way you could easily just swap out the battery. Lastly though, this can feel a bit heavy as you use it. But, overall, a great vacuum. Does a great job picking up dirt.

New king of vacuums! This will replace my Dyson.

I never thought I would ever say this, but I think this vacuum is going to replace my Dyson! I will start out by saying that my last 5 vacuums have all been Dyson’s. I haven’t found anything that worked as well and was as easy to use…..until now. Out of the box you can tell this is a well-built machine. It is very minimalistic and just comes with the main wand, a brush and wand attachment and the main brush head. I love the simplicity of having the brushes for both carpet and hard floors in the same brush head. It saves a ton of time by not having to constantly change heads if you have a house with both carpet and hard surfaces like mine. Another thing I absolutely love is that this one actually has lights on it, a lot of them! I know this may seem like a no-brainer, but if you have ever owned a stick vacuum from the other guys, you will know the frustration of not having lights. It has both front and rear lights and they actually will change based on what the vacuum is doing to give you a visual cue. Normally they are just a white color on the front and a purple-ish color on the back. If you get close to a wall the light on the back will only be on towards the side where the wall is and you will hear the motor kick up a notch. That’s because this can actually sense when you are close to a wall and it sends more power to that side to suck up everything that is in the crack along the wall. As soon as you get away from the wall, the motor spins down and it goes back to normal operation. You will also notice a power and brush change when you switch from carpet to a hard surface and back again. I found this worked amazingly well at detecting what type of surface I was vacuuming and when I was close to a wall or not. I was actually pretty amazed at how easily this switched everything for me and all I had to do was run it back and forth. Another thing I love is that it has a power button and it just stays on versus having to constantly hold down a trigger. I get how that can save a little power having a trigger, but it can really start to hurt your hand after a while. With the Shark, I cleaned my entire house and didn’t have any hand or arm fatigue. This vacuum does have a trigger, but it is just for switching from eco, to regular, and high speed modes if you want to do it manually instead of letting the vacuum handle the switching for you. This vacuum also has another little secret up its sleeve and that is when you press a release button, the arm of the vacuum goes into an L shape making it extremely easy to get under furniture. While it didn’t get under all of my furniture due to the height, I would say it got under about 70% of my furniture and I was able to vacuum areas that haven’t been vacuumed in years simply because my old vacuum couldn’t reach them. This bending is also how you store the vacuum, you just bend it and then it can stand up on its own for easy storage. As far as the power goes. There is always one test I like to do. Vacuum with my old vacuum, and then vacuum with the new one and see what my old one left behind. I did that test with my Dyson, and this is the latest and greatest Dyson, not an older model. After I finished with the shark I had almost ¾ of a tank full of dirt that the Dyson left behind. That was the icing on the cake and made me switch to the Shark as my main vacuum. The other one will become the basement vacuum. One last thing, the battery life on the Shark is amazing too. I was able to easily clean my 2400 square foot home and have lots of power left to spare. If you are looking for a new vacuum, this is the one you want. If you are a current user of the other brand that costs twice as much as this, you really should check this one out and see what you’ve been missing!

The Shark - PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum is another powerful, high-quality cleaning device in the long list of Shark’s impressive product offerings. I have found the Shark brand to be very reliable and this PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum is right in line with what I have come to expect from such a reputable brand. The Shark PowerDetect has many great features, some of which are quite clever and new to me when it comes to vacuums. One of the main things that is noteworthy is the fact that the PowerDetect is cordless. It is powered by a rechargeable battery which is reported to last for up to 70 minutes of runtime based on using the vacuum in ECO mode. I haven’t needed to run the vacuum for anything close to 70 minutes yet, but so far, I haven’t noticed any drop-offs in suction or power after using it on and off for well over 20 minutes and I don’t doubt that the battery will last much longer if run longer. Speaking of ECO mode, this is another one of the many great features of the Shark PowerDetect. Instead of quickly using up the battery by running the vacuum constantly at full power, the PowerDetect has four unique intelligent technologies that can boost the power of the vacuum when needed. These are Dirt Detect, Edge Detect, Floor Detect, and Direction Detect. In summary, when the DuoClean Detect nozzle detects dirt, edges and corners, carpet, and vacuum direction, it automatically boosts the vacuum’s power. A few of the remaining notable features are the MultiFLEX technology which allows you to bend the wand to better clean under furniture that would normally be a challenge to vacuum under and around with traditional vacuums and the self-cleaning brushroll which does a good job of picking up long hair without it getting stuck around the brushroll itself. It is really nice not having to try to take apart the bottom of the PowerDetect to cut away all the hair that usually collects around the brushroll like I regularly had to do with my old vacuum. Overall, the Shark - PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum is a great, high-quality cordless vacuum and I highly recommend it!

Shark Cordless Vac w/Powerful Suction & HEPA

So I just received my Shark PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum with Powerful Suction and HEPA Filtration Cordless Stick Vacuum about a week ago and have been putting it through its paces. With the holidays upon us and guests/pet tracking in snow and mud, this stick vacuum couldn't have come along at a better time. We have been using this new Shark cordless stick vacuum and it has helped with chores around the house over the last week tremendously, because its quick and easy to use without the need to pull out the big vacuum which has half the suction power. To get started, when you open the box, you'll noticed that there's really only 3 pieces that you have to connect: 1. Handheld Vacuum, 2. MultiFLEX Wand, and 3. Floor Nozzle. Basically align and connect the Handheld Vacuum to MultiFLEX Wand, and then to the Floor Nozzle. One of the best features of this vacuum is the angled parts that allows you to bend and slide under couches, tables, chairs, beds, and other furniture that typically gets not attention unless we moved the furniture out from the wall or move the furniture out so that we could vacuum under. Also included in the package is the user manual, wall charger, a crevice duster tool, and a pet multi tool for easily cleaning and vacuuming up pet hair quickly. With its self-propelled guidance it has kinda made vacuuming more enjoyable over the last week. On the back of the canister is one simple power button and a small display that allows you to see which mode you are in. The higher the mode, the stronger the suction, which in turn limits the amount of vacuuming time, however, this is by far the best stick vacuum I've used in a long time with a long battery run time of 70 minutes which is great when it comes to having to vacuum multiple rooms. 70 minutes seem long enough to get a house vacuumed unless you live in like a mansion and you're vacuuming everyday. Another great feature I love is the floor detection, which is amazing. It detects when you go from vacuuming on carpet to vacuuming your kitchen or bathroom floor. And emptying the canister is a breeze. I recommend grabbing one of these Shark stick vacuums to help take the "chore," out of doing chores.

This vacuum is a winner in my book. I wanted a vacuum to keep on my lower level of my home in which I have vinyl flooring and carpet. Out of the box, it was very simple to get it all set up and on charge. It only showed very little battery life out of the box so I let it charge for about 2 hours which put me at full battery. I was able to vacuum a 1300 sq ft area of our lower level with a little less than half battery left. Battery life is so good for a vacuum with such great power. Suction on this vacuum is very powerful. I have two long haired dachshunds who shed SO much and this vacuum picked up all the hair. I really like “detect” mode. The vacuum will speed up and slow down automatically based off of how dirty the area you are vacuuming is. I love that it will suck while moving forwards or backwards with the vacuum. Also, I really like the fact the rollers have not had any issues with the hair getting tangled around it. Such a HUGE plus for me! The multiflex option is a pretty neat feature but for me it’s mainly used for storage when I have it on charge. My lower level doesn’t really have any areas that I need it to flex to get under but I could see how it would be a useful feature for some. One thing I really wish it had was a mount option for the wall. While I do like the fact it has the ability to fold down, I really like being able to hang the vacuum up on the wall like my other one does for the upper level of my house. All in all, this vacuum gets two thumbs up from me. Shark is a great company and their vacuums are wonderful. 10/10 recommend, especially if you have dogs!

    Powerful vacuum with advanced features

The Shark IP1000 PowerDetect Cordless Vacuum is a powerful, modular vacuum with a number of advanced features that are hard to cover in a short review. It proved to be very capable of picking up quantities of dirt where I didn’t even think there was any, and we now store it in a place where it’s convenient to access for both regular use as well as for picking up after the inevitable household “accidents”. I should probably mention that a number of its features are oriented toward picking up pet hair and other pet-related dirt, but since we have no pets I’m unable to address those concerns. The well-packed carton contains the main handheld vacuum unit; a long, hinged wand; floor nozzle; a crevice tool; and a “pet multi-tool”. There are some other tools available from the Shark web site. The modular design allows any of the tools to be connected directly to the handheld unit or to the end of the wand. The most-used configuration is the handheld unit with the wand and the floor nozzle at the bottom. The floor nozzle is a lot more than just a nozzle and has various rotating parts and LED lights. This is our first cordless vacuum of this type and there were some things to get used to. Mainly, it will not stand up unsupported due to the weight of the handheld unit. Folding over the hinge on the wand does allow it to stand upright and is the best way to store it without having to hang it on a wall or something, but it’s also necessary when using it in case you need to stop vacuuming to move a piece of furniture etc. It’s either that or lay it down on something. Either way, a minor inconvenience but it goes along with these types of devices with heavy batteries at the upper end. The hinge also serves another purpose in that it can be used to allow the floor nozzle to get underneath furniture like chairs and such. Clever! In use you can switch among three modes using a trigger on the handle. There is an Eco mode and a Boost mode, but the best results will come from the default Auto-Detect mode. When using it, I could tell that the vacuum strength varied depending on the surface it was on as well as what dirt it was detecting. There’s an indicator on the back panel that’s supposed to show how much dirt is being extracted, but frankly our place doesn’t get dirty to the point where we could really test this out. The first place that we tried it out was on our kitchen and dinette area floor, which is done in a high-end linoleum. The floor certainly didn’t look dirty and I expected it to just pick up a few crumbs and such, so was surprised when I was finished and saw how much was in the dust cup! So that was very impressive and I’ll be anxious to see what it finds the next time we use it in that area. One unique feature is that when you run it along a wall or baseboard, it senses it and not only increases the vacuum power at the edge, but also focuses the LED lights in the same direction. Very nice for getting dirt out of that inconvenient angle. When finished, it is very easy to release the hinged dust cup for emptying. There’s also another button that lets you remove the entire dust cup assembly. This is mainly for gaining access to the HEPA filter that should occasionally be cleaned, but it’s also nice for letting you rinse out the dust cup assembly to remove the finer dust particles that stick to the clear plastic. Although a great product for its intended purpose, I wouldn’t use this as a replacement for a more traditional upright vacuum. Mainly, while it’s very good on hard surfaces and low-pile rugs, it is too hard to push on carpeting with a medium to deep pile. And in general there’s no way to hide the fact that overall it’s pretty heavy and that weight is all up by your hand. For example, the box has a picture of someone having it configured with the handheld unit, wand, and crevice tool and holding it in one hand while cleaning in the upper corner of a room. That is something that I could barely do and my wife not at all! Of course, most users will probably be younger, so maybe it’s not as big of an issue as it is for us; just something to be aware of. Overall this product is convenient to use and has features that make it well worth owning as a second vacuum, or possibly as the only vacuum in a smaller space.

We have been using this Shark PowerDetect Cordless stick vacuum for 2 weeks and so far we are extremely pleased with its use. Out of the box, this Shark is very easy to add the extensions you want to use for the specific job. You will need to charge it for a couple of hours to ensure that the vacuum is fully charged and ready to complete the job. As you wait for it to charge, I highly recommend that you read over the owner's manual to become familiar with all of the bells and whistles this Shark has to offer. There are two primary reasons why I picked this vacuum: We have a cat and my daughter sheds tons of hair. This Shark PowerDetect hasn't disappointed in picking up the cat and my daughter's hair. One of the hassles of having so much hair to vacuum is cleaning the roller brush in a vacuum. With this Shark, you rarely have to clean the roller brush as this Shark comes with a self-cleaning brushroll. Since our cat loves to hide and rest under some of our furniture, it is really nice that this vacuum allows you to clean under the furniture without having to bend over that much. It also easily converts to a hand-held vacuum for above floor cleaning. Another reason why I chose this Shark cordless stick vacuum is that we have carpet and wood floors. This Shark does a great job of sensing the floor type and optimizing for the best performance. The LED display on this vacuum is really handy. The display will tell you the status of the battery, the mode type and shows you if there is large amount of dirt that needs to be vacuumed. Once it has detected larger amounts of dirt, it automatically boosts power. This feature prevents you from having to go over a dirtier section of the carpet over and over. Overall, I am very satisfied with this Shark vacuum!

I have tried a lot of vacuums but when I got this one, I was super excited. One of the great things that really attracted me to this vaccum was the fact that it is cordless. if you are anything like me, dragging that cord all through the house, tripping on the cord and trying to find an available plug is all of the things I dislike about regular vacuums and love about this vacuum. The fact that you can't take of the top of the vacuum and attach the extra attachment and use it on the steps and on the vents as well as furniture, take it out to your car and do this as well. The Hepa filter is wonderful and the suction on this is one of a kind. Putting this thing together was so easy. You do not need any tools for this, just a few clicks and you are ready to go. Before you use is , youn are going to have to charge it up and this took no time at all. this vacuum is so light weight, nit rolls easily. and the fact that you can bend this in half for storage is a plus. This vacuum adjust to high traffic areas so when you have a heavy traffic area, the vacuum adjust to that area. You cannot go wrong with this vacuum. I think this is going to take the place of all the other vacuums that I have in my home,

My favorite part of this vacuum is the "MultiFlex" feature that allows the arm to snap forward to better reach under furniture. I've had some expensive vacuums that don't have this feature and I have to back up really far and then lean down to get under couches and tables. This feature solves that and I wish every vacuum cleaner had it. The Shark Cordless PowerDetect is a great vacuum and really worked well on my house full of hard floors. It transitions seamlessly to large area rugs and I love the omni-directional cleaning capabilities as well as the dual brush for extra cleaning. The top detaches to empty the dust bucket and then the bucket removes entirely to access the filters or clean the dust container. One issue I encountered was the connections for all the pieces were tough to connect. Maybe this will get easier over time as the plastic wears down, but I really had to shove them together to get the satisfying click to ensure they didn't disconnect. I also thought the "detect" feature would be like the lights that shine on the floor to show you the dirt. Instead it is done on the display that you can see while vacuuming. There are down-lights on the vacuum head though that are bright enough to illuminate the area you're vacuuming. Just be sure to plug the battery in as soon as you get it. The first charge took several hours (which they warn you about in the quick start guide). It collapses nicely in half for storage when not in use and you can detach the battery entirely for more portable charging. I wish there was a wall mount charger option.

I am very happy with the Shark PowerDetect. Cleaning power is excellent on everyday debris and any type of dry spill. It’s baking season, and inevitably flour, sugar, etc., end up on the floor. The Shark PowerDetect makes cleanup a breeze without scattering bits and pieces. A feature I noticed almost immediately is the ability to vacuum effectively regardless of the direction the Shark PowerDetect is being pushed or pulled. Cleaning along baseboards is easy and effective from any angle, whether head-on or using the side of the vacuum head. The vacuum head has LED lighting both forward and aft, and the LEDs do a great job of exposing even the tiniest particles. The LED brightness varies automatically depending on lighting conditions. I still think it’s pretty cool to identify dust on the floor, pull the vacuum over it, and have the forward-facing LEDs illuminate the freshly vacuumed floor to confirm the dust is gone. I really appreciate the dedicated power button. The Shark PowerDetect is either on or off, and there is no need to hold a trigger to maintain power. There is a trigger, but its purpose is mode selection to choose between Eco, Detect, and Boost. I have left ours on Detect, and the Shark PowerDetect does a great job of identifying dirt and varying motor speed as needed for the optimum clean. If you’re ever not sure, information is clearly communicated via LED display to identify cleaning mode, battery level, and dirt detected. Not only does the Shark PowerDetect detect dirt, it also automatically detects floor type! It is equally at home on hard floors, area rugs, and carpeting. I’ll admit I did not read the manual – there seemed to be no need, given the intuitive assembly and informative Quick Start Guide – so I was surprised to learn that the brush roller automatically engages and disengages depending on the surface being cleaned. Very cool! Motor run time will vary depending on the selected cleaning mode. Documentation indicates a 70-minute run time in Eco mode. Set to the Detect mode, the Shark easily vacuumed our entire house and had battery to spare. Battery charging is rated at 6 hrs, and I can confirm that it indeed takes a while. Given the long run time, I don’t expect waiting for charge to complete will ever be an issue but, if you have the need, additional batteries can be acquired. I also like that the Quick Start Guide states that the battery can be left plugged in without harming battery life. Disposal of collected dirt and hair is super simple. Shark has improved the dust cup emptying experience to the point where it is hands free except pressing the dust cup release to open the receptacle and then clicking it closed when empty. The MultiFLEX pipe makes vacuuming under furniture the easiest I have ever experienced. No more down on my hands and knees trying to get at those dust bunnies! Alos, the Shark PowerDetect is easy to store in an upright position due to the MultiFLEX latch. The vacuum folds in half (imaging it’s touching its toes) and takes up minimum floor space. The box includes two attachments: a crevice tool and a pet multi-tool. Both are easy to use and simplify cleaning of furniture, stairs, car seats and floors, and raised surfaces. Great cleaning power in nearly any situation, long battery life and effortless emptying make the Shark PowerDetect easy to recommend. I love it.

I was looking for a vacuum that would be portable, have a detachable hand vacuum, and be powerful at the same time. This Shark PowerDetect vacuum checks all of those boxes and does an excellent job! There are so many great things about this vacuum! The main vacuum attachment folds down in the middle so you can vacuum under hard to reach places. There are three vacuum settings, including an automatic dirt and debris detection mode, an eco mode, and a high power mode. In the automatic detection mode, the vacuum detects the amount of dust and debris as you vacuum and adjusts the amount of suction power accordingly. Eco mode allows you to get the most possible run time out of your unit, and the high power mode offers the maximum amount of power at all times. I am impressed by the amount of suction power this vacuum has while also being very quiet at the same time. Our previous cordless vacuum is not as powerful and is also much louder than this Shark vacuum. This vacuum also has some very unique features. When vacuuming on carpet, it detects the carpet and increases suction and cleaning power to get everything up. Another great feature on this vacuum is it has an easily detachable battery. With that, you can recharge the battery separate from the main unit, and, if you need additional cleaning time, you can purchase an additional battery to use while one battery is recharging. The main vacuuming unit has LED lights to help illuminate the areas you are vacuuming which is great. From my usage, this vacuum did a great job at picking up all kinds of dirt and debris. And being able to detach the main unit and use this as a portable hand vacuum is very nice for vacuuming in all kinds of different places. Overall, this is an excellent vacuum that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a powerful and convenient cordless vacuum!

I'll start with the best thing about this vacuum. The flexibility. This vacuum can be used in many ways. The middle of the stick can bend. This allows you to get under things. Beds, table, etc. It will save your back trouble lol. No need to lift up heavy furniture. It can reach under it. Personally, this is the best feature on the vacuum. Other features include detaching the vacuum from the stick and using one of the two attachments for furniture. I like to use it for my car. Plenty of room for junk. I have to admit, I don't feel like the suction is the strongest but it gets the job done. There are also bright lights to help you see what you're vacuuming. There's a boost button that turns up the suction to make sure you get everything. The LCD screen is great as well. Very easy to use. One of things I used to hate about vacuum cleaner is the inability to clean them good but this one makes self cleaning easy. Very simple to empty the bin. One push of the button over the trash and voila, empty. I'll end this review by letting you know what my second favorite feature is. The ability to store this in a small space. When you're finished vacuuming, this thing basically folds in half for easy storage. You can place it just about anywhere. Shark really did a good job with this one!

The first thing you may notice about this Shark cordless PowerDetect vac is a looks a lot like that other more famous cordless vac that costs a LOT more and has a name that rhymes with "bison".... The Shark vac has the same general overall configuration. Same hot-rod color accents (a matte purple in this case) . Same clear dirt chamber incorporated into the handle. But Shark has gone beyond just copying a competitor. It has fixed a few things that other brand got wrong... Like an on/off button on the back instead of a power-on trigger you must hold for as long as you want to vacuum. And a design that allows the vac to easily stand against a wall, or stand up on its own (even if it has to perform some surprising gymnastics to do so). Oh, and did I mention it costs a lot less? I guess I did. But it bears repeating. That's because this is pretty great cordless vac. It has more than enough power to handle all types of floors, an impressive built-in brain that (as the name implies) automatically adjusts power and brush speed for floor and dirt conditions and is designed so it is easy to dump the dirt when the job is done. The PowerDetect's cleaning chops are pretty impressive too, since it includes Shark's remarkably effective DuoClean power head, which has two kinds of rollers that are designed to pick up the small bits as well as the big stuff. And pet hair too, without getting all tangled up. The brain also detects when you are vacuuming the edges of the room, so it can boost power along that edge. And if that's not enough, it activates forward and reverse headlights (depending on which way the power head is moving) so you can better see what you are cleaning. Neat trick. And yep, it cleans in both directions. You can choose from three different power settings: Eco, which provides less vacuum power but also gives you the longest battery life (up to 7 hours); Detect, the default setting, and the only one where the brain kicks in to read floors and adjust speed; and Boost, the most power (and noise) for the most demanding vac jobs. A trigger in the handle makes it easy to switch between settings. A big round display on the back shows which setting you are using, as well as remaining battery life. As for the aforementioned gymnastic trick: That is accomplished by unlocking an elbow in the "multi-flex wand" that connects the handle to the power head. The wand bends in the middle, making it easer to vac under beds and other low furniture. (It's a bit cumbersome but it works) When the cleaning is done, the same joint allows the vac to fold in half so it can stand up all by itself where ever you want to store it. This is necessary because the vac is very top heavy and cannot stand on its own when fully upright. But the folks at Shark designed the bottom of the handle with a flat surface and bumper guard so you can stand it fully upright against the wall, if you prefer. As with most vacs of this type, the PowerDetect comes with two different non-powered attachments -- a crevice and dusting tool -- for cleaning in high or tight spaces. These can attach directly to the main power unit, for use as a handheld vac, or at the end of the multiflex wand in place of the powerhead, if you want a longer reach. While the PowerDetect gets good marks overall, it is not perfect. This vac is pretty heavy and nearly all of that weight is in your hand, not on the floor. So even vacuuming bare floors can be a bit of a chore. And pushing it across carpet can be a workout since the drag is compounded by the suction on the carpet . Charging time is also on the slow side and it does not come with any wall hanging hardware. If you can deal with those issues, there is no reason not to buy this one. It's a very capable vac.
