this steam toaster over produces great results, but "steams" the wallet a bit. This is a fairly simple device: A steam toaster oven. What does the steam get you? Non dried out foods and no pre-heat time. The best part about this oven is no pre-heat time. When making something in this oven, that can cut off 10-15 minutes of regular oven pre-heat time! Results: I have cooked a few items in this, and from what I found the results are great. Mozzarella sticks were crisp and crunchy, with gooey cheese in the middle and biscuits were golden brown but soft and moist on the inside. The oven includes two pans, a crisper and a "regular" pan. cons: the included cookbook is a bit lax, not many good ideas in there. I found cooking using recommended times on item boxes resulted in the best cooked items. The oven has a large footprint, and is a bit loud. In summary: Cooks very well, but is a little expensive and loud.

I have been testing this oven out for a few meals and have been pretty happy. It is easy to use, does not require any preheating, and it cooks evenly. The inside is spacious enough that I can fit some nice sized dishes in without a problem and the interior surface is also smooth and easy to clean. While it takes up more counter space than a traditional toaster oven, it also has more capabilities. I have not had to use my regular oven since I started using this. Depending on what I am making, that equates to saved time and electricity since I did not have to preheat. So far, the only negative is that the trays are huge. They are not made to slide halfway out and stay in place like a traditional toaster or oven. My guess is that they intend for them to just be removed when cooking is complete. But with their size, they do not fit anywhere else in my kitchen. I wish they could rest on a track. Second, the trays are dishwasher safe but it is a huge challenge to fit them into the dishwasher without taking up a large amount of space that could be occupied by other dishes from the meal. Overall, I am happy. But smaller might be a little better.

    Steam Power!

This Sharp SuperSteam Toaster/Pizza Oven was a revelation. The name is a misnomer if you think it describes exclusively what this appliance does. It does so much more. And does it well. First, it is not a small counter-top appliance. It weighs almost 25 pounds and has enough interior space for 12.5 X 12.5-inch toasting and broiling pans. And it needs some space around the unit for venting. The chrome finish is gorgeous, but like all such finishes, it is a fingerprint magnet. There is almost no cooking task that it cannot do. It can bake, broil and toast with the best conventional oven. It is limited only by its size. Obviously, it can't hold a full-size turkey or ham. But I used it to make our favorite chicken tetrazzini recipe in a huge casserole dish. No problem. I heated a frozen pizza. I cooked hot dogs and hamburgers. I baked brownies. I made toast and delicious grilled cheese sandwiches. A recipe book is included, but the cooking possibilities are endless. There is a handy chart in the back of the book for the temperature and cooking times for generic items. There is no preheating, so it is quick. Because it uses a combination of super-heated steam and more conventional electrical heating elements to thoroughly cook your food. I prepared two hot dogs for lunch. Fill the reservoir with water for the steam. Set the unit to grill on the broiling pan at 485 degrees for eight minutes and press the button to start. That's it. And the cooked food is extremely flavorful and moist on the inside. The toast and pastries were beautifully browned on the outside. I have never eaten a frozen pizza with the flavor this little unit unleashed. I am sure the super heated steam played a large part. I cannot readily name a shortcoming. For a young person living in an apartment, a full- sized stove could be totally replaced by this attractive unit. And for an elderly adult, almost every food could be prepared at counter top level without having to bend down to open a stove door and retrieve its contents. And it is faster and more economical to use that a full size oven. I am very fond of it. Highly reccomended!

No more waiting on the oven to heat

A few pros and a few cons on this one. Pros: Heats SUPER quick! It uses steam, so you no longer have to wait forever for it to preheat. Just turn on and go. Cons: This sucker is hefty. In order to accommodate the pizza, it takes up a bit more counter-top real estate than my last one. You have to remember to add water or it won't turn on and it doesn't give you an alert that it needs water. Minor adjustment though and I'm sure over time we'll remember. The dials aren't exactly intuitive. You really need to use the start-up guide to figure out how to turn it on and change the temperatures, etc. Usually with this type of product, you're ready to go straight out of the box without really needing to refer to instructions. Another challenge is pulling out the little tray. It's really awkward and you really have to struggle to pull it out from the bottom. We plan to get a separate, smaller tray that we can easily place on top of it and use it more like a shelf. With the square size to accommodate pizzas, it's a little tough finding a tray the right size. Overall, I totally love the time I get back because of how quickly this oven heats however the other gaps called out above disappointed me. Many are minor, but they are all the things one usually expects with a toaster oven. I'm surprised they were overlooked. At this price point, I really expect close to perfection. I love the new feature of steam use for the quicker heat, but would consider other products that deliver that feature without compromising in all the other places.
