If you loved SMTIV, Apocalypse takes you back before the end and places you deep into the action! New and familiar faces alike will come your way! The Apocalypse is upon you, what path will you take? The Law of Order, The Freedom of Chaos, or Neither?

Shin Megami Tensei: Apocalypse is a fined-tuned, more-focused work than its predecessor. A new cast takes center stage in the game but familiar faces and locations appear. Fans of the previous title should be enthralled with SMTIV:A.

This is a quasi sequel to Shin Megami Tensei 4. It's more of a spin off, and some characters from 4 appear, but it can be a stand alone game. I love this series so I enjoyed the game, but I wish it could have been a totally brand new game. If you liked the last one, this is the same formula.

This shin Megami Tensei is an awesome game but it can get repetitive after 40 hours.

    A sequel, despite the name

A sequel to SMTIV, or 'expansion pack that doesn't require the original game'. Could be played standalone, too, but has some callbacks to the original game, too. But this is *not* a GOTY edition that includes the original content; it's a whole new game.

While not a direct sequel to the previous installment, Shin Megami Tensei IV, you will see returning characters from the series. It is definitely not a requirement to play the previous installment but helps shed some light on the story. All the usual core game play mechanics that this series is known for is present, but have improved the fusion system with an easier and more informative upgrade. Some parts of the story can be strange and dark, but this is a series that it is known for and should not surprise/deter veterans who have played the other games in the past. Definitely recommended if you are a JRPG fan.

Significantly improves upon SMT 4's gameplay

Having played the original Shin Megami Tensei IV, I was initially somewhat skeptical about this game. While I liked the original, I was worried that Apocalypse would just be more of the same, even with a brand new story. I'm glad I decided to get this game anyways. The original was a good game, but it had some definite flaws. SMT IV Apocalypse fixes these flaws and as such makes a great gameplay experience for fans of turn based rpgs. Some of these improvements include: - The map is clearer and easier to navigate than that of the original SMT IV. - SMT IV's "smirk" system is now a well integrated part of combat, and no longer results in enemies randomly becoming impossible to hit. - The player can now choose their partner, and partners now make better decisions.

The story and historical figures used in this make this one of the most red pilled games I have played since xenogears came out in 1999. I'm surprised some of it went past the ESRB.

I'm big fan of Shin Megami Tensei games first one I played was SMT: nocturne. I've played SMT IV and it's a good game had it's pros and cons. My main issue was the map. Apparently Apocalypse map is much better than the first game which is good. I'm enjoying the story so far.
