If you liked SMTIV, you'll like this. If you didn't, you won't. It's really that simple. I was psyched for thus, but honestly after about 35 hours of play I kinda put it on hold for other games. Just wasn't new and unique enough to hold me. It's good, though.

Shin Megami Tensei: Apocalypse is a fine-tuned, more-focused work than its predecessor. A new cast takes center stage in the game but familiar faces and locations appear. Fans of the previous title should be enthralled with SMTIV:A.

Parents, may not be child appropriate but it's a great game for older teens and young adults. Not too much different from other SMT games, there's a bit more character customization.

This sequel to SMTIV is much more fleshed out, and is very detailed. It's easier to get around, and the systems are more fleshed out. Great stuff!

Rather than a full sequel, this game rehashes the events of SMT4 with different characters. If you enjoyed the first, this is a worthy play.

SMT4 Apocalypse is kind of a sequel to SMT4. In the first game, there was a neutral ending. This game picks up during that neutral path, and not from the ending. With that said, it is not necessary to have played SMT4 in order to understand this game.
The bulk of the game (mechanics, combat, map) are very similar to the first game, but a bunch of quality of life improvements from better mini map navigation to UI options have been added. New demons and locations have been added while locations from the first game return. Battles revolve largely around exploiting enemy weaknesses while preventing the enemy from doing the same to you. Veterans of the first game will know what to expect while newcomers will have plenty to enjoy. The English voice acting is good as well, like most Atlus games.
If you manage to get the launch edition, the game comes with a nice metal 3 pin set (2 silver and 1 gold colored).

Having played this right after the original SMT 4, I am impressed at what they improved upon. Nearly all my complaints were fixed and they managed to tweak and add a few things to their interface, such as the smirk and map system. I'm 40 hours in and I can say that this is one of the 3DS's best rpg this year!
