A Must Have Item for all Fire TV Owners

I'm reviewing the SideClick for Amazon FireTV 2 Remote with Voice Capability. I had heard about this device quite a while ago, but looking at the price of $30 seemed kind of expensive for what it was. A few weeks ago, it went on sale for $19.99 and that's when I pulled the trigger and purchased 3 of them to outfit all of my Amazon FireTV units. The SideClick is simply a device that reads infrared signals from any of your existing remotes when a button on your original remote is pressed. It then stores that signal and can then transmit that specific signal whenever you press the button you have associated with it on the SideClick device. So if you have a separate remote for your TV, your Surround Sound,etc... you simply program in only those buttons you need from each remote into the Sideclick, and now you have all your basic daily required functions in one place. For me, I only needed to program the Power Button of my TV, and the Volume Up and Down from my Surround Sound System. Once done, I could basically remove the batteries from the original remotes and store them away, and simply use the SideClick attached to the Amazon FireTV 2 remote to handle the basic functions needed to watch TV each day. Remember, the Amazon Fire TV Remote devices are using Bluetooth wireless signal, not infrared. On the SideClick, any of the buttons can be assigned to any function you desire regardless of how they are marked on the SideClick, so keep that in mind when you are programming it. Overall, I'm very pleased with the SideClick device and how it functions. Unlike most infrared remote devices, the SideClick has a very wide infrared beam so you don't have to be too careful when pointing it at the device you want to control, so that is really nice and simply a pleasure to use. It would be really cool if Amazon would incorporate those extra buttons and infrared learning functions directly into their remote, but somehow I don't see that happening anytime soon.

    Changed the Way I Watch

The Sideclick will change how you watch TV. We've moved all over the world. As a military family, we're in a new country or state every two years. Local TV can be hit and miss, and contracts for TV are a nightmare. Most recently, we gave up, and went to the Amazon Fire TV for everything. Love that, but the remotes, oh God, so many remotes! One for the TV, one for the sound, one for the Fire TV. We tried to fix it with programmable all-in-one super remotes that came with apps and touchscreens and everything. Impressive capabilities in the hundreds of dollars, and not user friendly. My wife refused to use a Harmony remote that we bough because it was too complicated (it was). Enter the Sideclick. It does everything I need it to, right with the Fire Remote. Being able to turn the tv on/off, adjust the volume, mute, set the TV sleep timer, flip between inputs without a multiple remotes or having to hook up a remote to my PC (had to do this with the Harmony remotes). This took my Amazon Fire TV from a "supplement" to our TV and made it our primary method of entertainment solely because I don't have to hassle with additional remotes! Simple to use, simple to set up, insanely affordable, and the best thing that's happened to streaming services.

    Less clutter more convenience!

When I first spotted this product on kickstarter I knew I needed it and now having it I know I was right. We are a family of five who ditched the cable bill and opted for internet streaming instead, but it was becoming a pain to try and locate the tiny Amazon remote and then also having to locate the tv remote and the remote for the receiver. No matter how hard we tried to keep things together the pile of remotes would magically scatter amongst the many couch cushions. Now we just have the one remote that does it all and is wide enough to not get lost but still small enough to be convenient. It comes with standard remote buttons for power, volume, channel, source, and then two buttons that you can program as you desire. Setup is very easy! Just need to hold down buttons till the light flashes and then pair the old remote. I am completely satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend it for anybody using Amazon or Roku.

    Adds Necessary Controls...

I have heard of the Sideclick remote for some time, and was able to grab one on sale. It allows you to use an existing remote (required!) to learn any functionality you want. Any button on the Sideclick can be programmed to your choosing, although the buttons are labelled for Power, Volume up and down, Input selection, Channel up and down, plus A and B (custom). You don't enter a number code from a book - it learns the actual IR transmission from the existing remote. So this is not good to backfill a lost remote. But because it learns an IR code, it could be from multiple devices. But I can now change my sound bar volume, my TV input, my satellite channels, and toggle through a sleep timer (if you had a discrete button for that). But so many TVs bury sleep timers in the menu structure, so there isn't a way to make that work (no macros or strings of codes). Great product. Very happy with the fit for both the non-voice Amazon remote and the voice Amazon remote. I liked it so much, I bought two more for the other rooms' Fire TVs. I want these for my older Apple TVs as well. But the newer Apple TV remotes have volume controls built in, so adding the bulk is less needed.

I originally saw the Sideclick as an "other people purchased" item while looking at the Amazon Fire TV. My addition of a sound bar in my living room added a 4th remote to my cluttered side table and reviews were good so I purchased this as a run of the mill universal remote will not work with Fire TV/Stick, a Roku, etc. It is SUPER easy to program. What I like the most is not needing to press a button like TV/Cable/DVD as you would on a cheaper universal remote to operate a device nor needing to spend hours setting up a higher end (and priced) one like the Logitech Harmony. The only downside I see in it is no number keys if you watch a lot of TV however if you use a streaming device you are likely ditching cable/satellite or debating doing so. The instructions should say "press and hold" when pressing the button you want the Sideclick to learn. As long as you do that and know ahead of time which buttons on each remote you want to assign to the Sideclick you will have it programmed in a minute or less. Change your mind and want to change from say sound bar mute to sound bar power for the B button? 7 seconds (I timed it) to change it. Some reviews have said it feels bulky in small hands. I have girlie kid sized hands and am able to comfortably operate it with either my thumb or index finger.

I purchased this to use with my 75 inch SONY TV and AMAZON FIRE TV - here is what I found... ------------------------------ #1 - IT'S TOO BIG once it is attached to your remote your remote becomes awkward and too wide to easily handle and navigate in one hand #2 - IT SLIPS & SLIDES the SIDECLICK dose not stay in place it slides up and down the remote eventually falling completely off #3 - NO FUNCTIONS sure you can turn your DVD PLAYER (and other units) "ON" but that is where it ends you will STILL need to reach for your remote for that unit if you want to (for example) -open the tray on the DVD player -fast forward/reverse/pause ------------------------------ All and all I am not sure really why you would want this you still NEED your ORGINAL REMOTES to do the basic functions all the SIDECLICK dose (and promises to do) is SIMPLY turn your components ON and OFF

I use this for TV + Fire TV box in my bedroom. In this case I bring my remote to my bed while watching streaming before nighty-night. So not having to fumble w/ 2 remotes (TV + FireTV) is really really nice. The remote has dedicated buttons for TV on/off, volume/channel - up/down, TV input selection, + (2) extra buttons that you can program for anything you like (in my case I have mute programmed to one & the other is nothing right now). Takes (2) AAA batteries, and just clips to the side of the FireTV remote. Works so well I bought a second for my elderly mother who uses it with her Roku. She isn't tech savy, and she loves it. I would give it 5 stars if it were even cheaper. :)

If you're looking to cut the cord by using services through your Amazon Fire TV or TV Stick, this is quintessential to making the experience much more pleasant. You can use a single remote, even if it's got an attachment, by adding this since you can now control the TV power, input, and volume. I really like that the buttons can learn individually, so you can program volume to control your home theater system, while the power button controls your TV, and the two extra buttons can be used for home theater power etc. My only complaints are two: 1- Amazon should really just add the basic TV buttons like these to the standard remote 2 - If it must be an add-on, I would have preferred it was mounted to the remote by replacing the battery compartment door as opposed to being clipped on since it just looks a little clunky as a clip. But I do like the buttons being along the side as opposed to underneath as a competitor's product designed it

Way too expensive for what it does. If you can find it on sale or use reward coupons, makes it more palatable. That said, it is actually very well designed and perfectly solves the problem of having to use two different remotes. Just one does it with this device. Cord cutters rejoice. Well made, solid device. Clips perfectly into existing fire remote.. Very easy to program and has enough buttons to cover the essentials, including vol up down, ch up down, quick view, power of course and two other buttons which I use for source and mute. One bonus for Sony PS Vue users who have Sony TVs with ARC and who use a home theater receiver for sound. The sound and channel change buttons on the TV remote work with PS Vue (ie, volume on TV remote controls receiver sound levels and auto changes input source too as you switch from TV to Fire TV) , as does quick view. So if you program this with TV remote, you gain functionality.

I programmed the volume buttons to control my soundbar, the A button for the tv’s mute function, and the power button turns both on simultaneously. The setup took all of three minutes and that’s including a beer break! This remote is only useful on devices that use infrared light technology. There is no Bluetooth or RF signal coming from the Sideclick. It adds a substantial amount of width to the Fire TV voice remote, but it doesn’t feel cumbersome. It actually makes it harder for the couch to swallow. The only negative that I can see is that it requires its own separate batteries. I got mine from Best Buy with reward points, but I would have gladly paid for it with real money. I just might do it anyways. There are only eight buttons, so don’t expect it to be an end-all remote. My toes hang over the front edge of right flip flop. The Sideclick cannot and will not fix this. Helpful, yes?

I backed this item on Kickstarter and have been amazed at the quality. I bought it for my bedroom where I have a Fire TV, TV, and receiver. The problem was that I kept losing one of the three remotes and having to search my room every time. A universal remote wasn't a great solution because I would lose the voice function of the remote. Thankfully, the Sideclick exists! The programmable buttons work well every time. I have more than enough buttons for general use. I only have to keep track of one remote. Plus, it is still relatively small for its size. I wouldn't use this in my living room where I have lots of devices and a lot of buttons. But for a small room where you just need basic remote functionality and the original remote? This product is a godsend.

Assuming you have a fairly simple setup, this remote works perfectly as a companion to a FireTV (in this case) or a Roku box. You can program literally any button on the source remote to this remote but you need to have the source remote to do the programming (i.e. if you lost your remote, this won't work well for you). There are only 8 buttons so you are limited in that regard. In our case, we use this in the bedroom where we got rid of a Tivo Mini and replaced with a Fire TV and Hulu Live TV (ditched Comcast). Programmed the Sideclick to power on/off the TV, change input and volume up and down. Wife loves it as it's all in one small package and not 2 separate remotes and we didn't have to spend $$$ for a universal remote that works with Fire TV.

When we decided to cut the cord, something else you're also cutting is the remote that Dish gives you. We have a FireStick for our main viewing now, and it really doesn't give you options for a Universal Remote unless you get a model that uses Bluetooth. The SideClick is a cheap alternative--it does the basics like power, volume, and channel up/down, plus it gives you input and 2 additional programmable buttons. And actually every button on it is programmable--you just point it at the remote you want it to learn from, and push the button on that remote. It works great because with our new sound bar, when you turn on the TV, the sound bar comes on. It's just a bit wider than a normal remote, but we've grown accustomed to it. I don't really have any complaints.

The side click won't replace the need for other remotes nor is it as versatile as a full blown universal remote. But when strictly watching content on the firestick it is all you need. Depending on how you program the buttons. Power and volume are givens, but I programmed the up and down arrows not as channel changers but to correspond with my sony tv up down arrows. I programmed the monitor looking button to the home button I programmed A to select and I can navigate back to my TV and select different inputs. The leaves the B button I just got surround sound system so I programmed it to my TVs display to check for Dolby (and picture resolution) But you could have other priorities. Could always use another button (C, D) but when watching the firestick I can leave my other remotes in their holsters

Pro: -Adds buttons for some basic functions. -Programs from your old remote easily -Fit old and new FireTV (two brackets included) Con: -IR Power is weaker than a standard remote. Works fine if you have a direct line of sight, within 15 feet. Over that, or any partial obstruction makes the buttons intermittent. -Doesn't hold tight to the newer FireTV remotes. Slides kind of easily. (Note - It holds very tightly to the older ones without the voice button) -Should have more buttons so you wouldn't need to go to another remote -Batteries easy to put in but hard to get out... needs a little ribon below them.

I have several SideClick remotes for the Amazon FireTV remote and the Roku remote for several TVs. The IR remote works great with my TVs (although one TV, a Vizio, is primarily bluetooth, I was able to reset it in IR mode and learn the commands I needed). Really nice not to have to use two remotes to changes inputs, volume, power on or off TV as well as control the FireTV or Roku. Combined remotes feel a little large initially but the size grows on you and I can use a single hand to control my TV and streamer now. Highly recommend this product.

The Universal Remote Attachment for Amazon Fire TV 1st & 2nd Gen, 4k Stick, Stick, Cube, Fire TV with 4K, Alexa Voice Remote is such a convenient way to eliminate so many remote controllers that I purchased one for every Amazon firestick we currently use in our home (4). Less clutter to deal with, easy to use, easy to program and worth every penny specially when you can get it on sale. Would definitely recommend for everyone who utilizes a firestick.

This was purchased as a deal with the Fire TV device. It is a wonderful idea to cut down on clutter in my living room. I did not want to have to buy a universal remote to control my tv and the Fire TV. The biggest feature of this device is it still allows the use of the voice tool on the Fire TV remote. It works well with my Insignia TV and the programming was very simple. I appreciated that I didn't have to search for remote codes or anything like that. It was a simple place the remote in front of the original TV remote and press which button you want the new remote to learn. Very straight forward and works well.

Sideclick clips neatly onto the Fire TV remote, is easily programmed to control on-off, volume, muting, etc. You can program buttons to control any function on your tv remote that suits you. I set one to control format to adjust picture to fill the screen when needed. It’s an inexpensive cure to having to deal with two remotes for controlling all the functions you want. No regrets. Cancelled all cable service except high speed internet, have more channels available, saving over $100/month, and a control that is convenient. Sideclick is well designed, attaches snugly, (maybe makes the small remote a little harder to misplace!) and is recommended.

Got this for my parents they were looking for a universal remote that would control their Firestick and TV/Bose Soundsystem at the same time. This worked perfectly but for anyone looking to buy MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL YOUR REMOTES!! This remote uses your existing remotes to memorize the codes it needs to use. Without them your only other option would be to have a phone or tablet with an IR blaster as the remote has no way to manually enter codes. Otherwise this works really well and would recommend as a relatively cheap alternative to combine all your remotes into one
