Anyone looking for a solid zoom lens in the 17-55mm range has probably had their eyes on this lens, and I'm happy to say it's fantastic. It's very well built, focuses fast, and is very sharp. I use it on a Nikon D5000 and the first thing I noticed was the wonderful color rendition. It's tack sharp as well, and doesn't get lost focusing. The only thing I don't like is that the zoom ring turns the opposite direction than my other lenses, but that's a minor inconvenience. If you can't take great pictures with this lens, it's not the hardware that needs upgrading.

    Serious kit lens upgrade

This was intended as an upgrade for my d7200, although it also gets use on my d3300. Massive differences on the d7200, as you have better ISO control. On the d3300 you do have have the f2.8 advantage, but not as much ISO control. In full sun (or studio lighting), you do get a slight edge, still. Pros - f2.8, build is a LOT more substantial than the kit 18-55 less. On the d3300 it seems a bit like you are shooting with a massive lens and a tiny body. Cons - it's not the 18-35 f1.8, but then it doesn't cost as much as a 18-35 either.

I am an enthusiast who enjoys taking pictures of the family. I did some research on a low light lens and found great reviews on this lens. The Nikon version is out of my price point so it was either Tamron or Sigma. I have not been disappointed with my choice. I just got back from a vacation and I am very pleased with my pictures. The 17-50 focal range is ideal for family photos. If you are a beginner and buy a DSLR, do yourself a favor and get a fast lens like this one. This lens takes great pictures in low light and the optic stabilization allows great handheld shots at 1/40 of a second. I use a Nikon D5100.

I used this on a trip to Monterey, CA 2 weeks ago. Some of my best shots came from this lens. It is tack sharp and focuses quickly.

This is a noticeable improvement from the otherwise respectable Nikon kit 18-55 lens. The Sigma is a fast / constant f/2.8 and produces sharp images throughout the focal lengths. When shot with any of the recent Nikon DX bodies which can shoot at ISO 12800+, you won't be using a flash as often as before. With an f/2.8 aperture, you will also be able to shoot at a faster shutter speed and increase the chances for a sharp image. As expected, it is a bigger/heavier lens than the 18-55 kit lens and it doesn't have the tank-like build quality of the professional Nikon lenses that cost 3x as much as this lens. The only negative that I see is that the zoom ring works in the opposite direction than standard Nikon lenses but I think I can live with this small inconvenience.

Bought this lens for my D5600. Great quality for the price. It is a bit heavier than the standard kit lens, but the constant 2.8 is fantastic.

This lens is perfect for anything. I prefer prime lenses but its not always functional to carry a bag full of focal lengths and keep changing them. This one has great range, gives very sharp results, wide apature at 2.8, and cost so much less than Nikon glass. Very satisfied!

After all of the reviews online, I've went ahead and purchased this Sigma lens. It takes amazing pictures on my D7100. The only drawback is that the preview pic stays on until you press it clear, not a big problem for me, but can't beat the quality and price for this lens!

Works well with my D7100 when I go bike riding. The weight and size are perfect to fit into my handlebar bag. The picture quality is super and the optical image stabilization is super in low light handheld situations.

I use this lens for landscape and astrophotography. The auto focus is quick and accurate and the image stabilization works well. The aperture at f2.8 really adds to the flexibility of this lens and the photographic opportunities available.
