This lens is very sharp and takes great pictures (when paired with the right photographer). The Sony A6x00 series cameras make great use of this lens to focus quickly with minimal barrel distortion. This is a 45mm Prime equivalent when paired with the APSc sensor. It's a bit longer than the kit lens, but nicer in all other respects. Due to the 24M sensor on the A6000, it can be used in nearly every situation as you can crop 50% of the image and still get a nice, detailed image for an 8x10 print.
It has a 52mm filter thread, a little larger than the kit lenses, but comparable to many 35mm lenses you may have sitting around. At 1.4, it's still fast, but focusing is a bit less accurate. 2.0 will give you nice background blur while still being easy to use without manual focus.
The metal and plastic body look like it's made to last. I hope to be enjoying this lens for years to come.

When I bought this it was an exchange for the 50mm Sony 1.8f. I lived that lens but with a a6400 the 50mm was hard to get shots and had to step back considerably. The 30mm on the sigma is absolutely perfect for me. The pictures and 4k videos turn out incredibly sharp and good looking with fabulous bokeh. This is easily the best standard lens in its class and if you were on the fence like I was, get this lens you will not regret it.

This is a really good lens and amazing value for the price. It makes very sharp images. The only thing i dislike about this lens is the purple fringing is more noticeable then some of my other lenses but for the price to performance this lens is definitely worth it. I shot both pictures that i am uploading on this lens and i like both of them.

Watched a few reviews online and decide to purchase. I'm just a casual photo guy. Really like the how fast the lens is. Went to Longwood gardens for a night fountain show and go some terrific pictures. Very easy to use and not crazy expensive.

Great quality at a budget price. Having a large aperture is always a plus, especially in those low light situations.

If you want a sharp lens along with a large aperture for your Sony APS-C camera, then the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens is an outstanding option. There are full frame lens choices that will do as well as the Sigma lens, but those lenses cost more and weigh considerably more. I am using the Sigma 30mm on a Sony a6500. It makes for a great low light combination and a pretty good portrait lens. The focusing with the a6500 works well. I have used it for action shots and its continuous focus tracking does a good, if not excellent, job. For still shots the focusing is spectacular even in low light. Optically, wow! It reminds me of the Sigma full frame Art lenses. Great lens at a reasonable price. The only thing missing is optical stabilization, if your camera does not have IBIS.

This is a great prime lens at a great price. I owned its predecessor, also 30 mm but at 2.8 aperture, and this is a great upgrade to what I consider a really under-appreciated lens. But this particular lens is one of the "holy trinity" of low-aperture Sigma lenses, the 16 +30 + 56 mm. combination
This is a lens best suited to photography. There is not any image stabilization, so if you want it for video you should get one of the Sony lenses with native image stabilization (e.g., Sony E 35mm/f1.8), or on the Sony bodies with built-in IS (a6400, a6500, or a6600). It is sharp, has good color, and tracks/focuses well, especially since the lens software upgrade back at the end of 2018. With the eye focusing system in my a6300 it gives really sharp full- and half-body portraits, as well as good outdoor images (as long as you don't want wide landscape views).
I use it on my a6300 about 50% of the time, with the travel 18-135 on there the other times. I don't have the Sigma 56mm f1.4 for portraits, and this would be great to have. But if the new Sony E 16-55 f2.8 weren't so expensive...
Along those lines, if I ever do upgrade to the super-sharp Sony G 2.8 zoom, I will still be keeping this lens. I will sell my Sigma 16 and 56 (when I buy it, and I'm pretty sure I will) and get the 16-55 range at 2.8
This is a versatile lens that can do portrait if you need it, and the 45mm equivalent can be useful in many landscape situations. It isn't for zooming in for wildlife or flowers in macro mode, but it is a great performer at a nice price. It often is on sale in the $289 range... So get this and start saving for the new Sony G.

Earlier copies of this lens have been faulted for having slightly slow focus, Simga seems to have completely worked out these issues. The lens focuses extremely fast for both photography and video applications. Of course the lens is exceptionally sharp, even wide open. I had some reservations about the focal length of 30mm which is equivalent to 45mm on a Sony full frame camera, which is quite close to 50mm. It's difficult to explain, but I find the focal length very versatile, perhaps even slightly more than a standard 50mm on a full frame camera.

This lens is simply amazing. It is the best deal for the money. The Sony lenses are awesome but a bit pricey. Most lenses are so expensive. This one is very good for portraits and blurring out the background.

I purchased this lens as a replacement for the kit lens. I also have the 55-210 sony telephoto lens. This 30mm lens has a solid build quality, is east to use, and can make for great, clear pictures.

I love this lens. It makes pictures so much more interesting than a zoom lens and it’s very versatile. I much prefer the 30mm to a 50mm also.
