Customers admire the 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Standard Lens for Nikon's exceptional image quality and impressive bokeh, frequently praising its sharpness and creamy, aesthetically pleasing background blur. Its fast autofocus is also a significant plus for many users. However, some find the lens to be quite heavy.

Having shot digital photography for 15 years, this is the best lens I’ve ever used for everyday use. Not only is a 35 mm focal length ideal for street photography and around the neighborhood, but this lens is tack sharp and produces beautiful colors. Everything great that has been said about this lens is true. It’s a hall of gamer.

This lens was at the top of my budget but I have been absolutely astonished at the photos! So crisp, depth of field at 1.4 is unreal and the auto focus makes it easy and fun. Two thumbs up from a lifestyle and family photographer!

I have quite a few of Nikon's professional lenses and I decided to take a leap of faith and try the Sigma art lenses due to their fantastic reputation and there is a reason all of the reviews out there comparing this lens to the top of line Nikon and Canon equivalents rate the Sigma higher.
At F1.4 this lens is scary sharp and the bokeh is something that other lenses dream of having. It's like shooting the equivalent of a Leica or medium format lens in how creamy the backgrounds can get with fantastic subject isolation for a lens this wide.
if you are looking for the best there is no other option, especially since it is also significantly less expensive than it's Nikon/Canon rivals and outperforms them on every level.
Some reviews would have you worry about Sigma's future and/or current compatibility but I had no issues on my Df or D700 and with their new lens base you can update the lens and tweak it to perfection if you need to.
Build quality is superb and on par with modern Nikon pro lenses but behind their older pro lenses like the 85mm f1.4 D.
The only other thing I have to add here is that this lens is for full frame and there are better, less expensive options for a crop sensor camera's like the Nikkor 35mm afs f1.8 dx and Sigma's also excellent 30mm F1.4.

I wasn't very sure about buying this lens at first, mainly because I didn't have a very good past experience with Sigma, and I didn't want to spend an extra $50 on the USB calibration device. I ended up biting the bullet anyway because of all the recommendations. I figured I could always return it if it doesn't live up to the hype. Boy was I glad I bought this lens. I was lucky enough to get a lens without any focus issues! I've shot at least a thousand images so far, and all of them are tack sharp. I have never seen single strands of hair so sharp and without any distortions coming straight out of the camera in RAW format. The only negative about this lens is that at f/1.4 there are some severe vignetting that causes your entire image look underexposed, but that's easily fixed by bumping the exposure compensation up 0.3 or 0.7. Now I have this lens on 90% of the time, and only switch to my 16-35mm in special circumstances where I need the special perspective or when I'm in cramped spaces.

I love traveling with this focal length. I takes gorgeous portraits while being wide enough to include context. The 1.4 produces a beautiful bokeh, however I do notice a difference between my sigma art bokeh, and my nikon lenses. Sigma bokeh seems slightly sharper if that makes sense. Overall one of my go to lenses. I've had it for over two years and it's still a favorite. I'll say it's a heavier lens. I did take a fall with it once, I'm fortunate to say, besides a small ding it still works beautifully.

I use this on a D800 and could not be happier. The lens is fast to focus, creates beautiful buttery bokeh when used with large aperatures and is amazingly sharp even at 1.4. I wish I hadn't waited so long to pull the trigger and buy this. Definitely worth the investment.

Tack Sharp Lens

One of my favorite new lenses for weddings! The lens is tack sharp, but I used the Sigma Dock to do some slight adjustments! Sigma lenses are quality lenses for the price and you can buy 2-3 sigma lenses for the price of one Nikon professional lens! To me the value in Nikon lenses is just not there anymore. I used to be pro nikon 100% but after using the Sigma lenses I've purchased the 35, 50, 85, and 135 Sigma. Previously used 24-70 and 70-200 and I will continue to use my 70-200 for ceremonies. But the primes stay on my lens for formals, receptions and detail shots! Cant recommend this lens more!

Good build quality, sharp images. After doing some research and testing out both lens, I chose this over the Nikon brand lens. I couldnt justify the cost of the nikon when this is just as good, if not better.

I purchased this to go with my Nikon D750, and it’s been a great pair! 35mm is definitely a great all around lens, to start with, as it works for almost any scenario. I’ve heard and read that there can be some autofocus issues, when using Sigma on Nikon and Canon, but it’s worked for me. I didn’t do this, but if you experience any issues, you just need to calibrate the lens to your camera.
The lens does have good weight to it. I think it’s a little heavier than my Nikon D750 body. Not a bad thing in my opinion, but just mentioning it. I love the lens and would highly recommend it!

If you shoot full frame then you probably already know about this lens and its cult following. I'm here to tell you it's true, it really is an amazing piece of glass at a steal of a price compared to its competition... it's not only cheaper but it outperforms both the Nikon and Canon 35mm lenses so there really is no question why you should buy this one (do a simple search, there are dozens and dozens of side by side comparisons from over the years).
I bought this the first month they came out and loved it immediately (it was also the first Sigma lens that I didn't have to have the AF adjusted by the company). I used the lens for a long time for many weddings and other shoots and then, sadly decided to sell to a friend because I had compiled too many to use (I had this one, their 24mm Art, their 24-35mm f/2 Art, and 85mm Art, not to mention a Nikon 16-35 and a Nikon 24-70). Over the years I sold most of those lenses and longed for the simplicity of the 35mm Art, the longing eventually convinced me to buy another copy which I did recently and have fallen back in love all over again (I've also sold both the 24 and 24-35 so I logically had a need for the 35 lol). One thing about the latest copy I bought though, it needed AF adjustment since it was off quite a bit. Luckily the Sigma offices are not far so quick trip there and in about 30 minutes the Af was adjusted to be razor sharp and quick as can be. All in all this lens is definitely worthy of cult status.

I always research my camera equipment. I cannot justify a $10 - 15,000 lenses. I wanted a 35mm lens for portraiture and closeups. This is a very sharp lens and very nice quality. I would definitely recommend this lens as a great bargain. Although it is an older model, it still competes well with newer 35mm lenses. Very responsive and works with my Nikon D850 with no problems.
