Good Entry Level Security System for a small house

Summary ------- This is the most basic system of all the SimpliSafe system that is available and it works for a small monitoring fee. Note that you can use this system as a standalone unit without monitoring as well. For the price it is good for a small house Whats in the box ---------------- 1. Base station 2. Keypad 3. 1 motion sensor 4. 4. Entry sensors The motion sensor is capable of capturing motion anywhere in a small room. The door /window opening sensor can help detect opening doors and windows. Details -------- The setup is pretty simple an straight forward and almost a plug and play. you get 1 month free monitoring. The motion sensing and the window/door opening detection is pretty straight forward in installation. The Motion sensing uses CR-123A and the door/window opening sensors use CR2032. These have a good amount of rated battery life and i could not really test. The app you can download also works to arm and disarm and you dont really need to use the keypad. The system itself is subsidized and they really make money from monitor. Actually and the monitoring is cheaper than some of the competitors ike ADT. The base also has a built in battery which is good, THe whole system is wifi enabled. The base also functions as a siren. So essentially if you have a smaller house and you are a first time home owner, this works very good and its well recommended.

SimpliSafe Indoor Home Security Kit 7pc

So I received my SimpliSafe Indoor Home Security Kit 7pc system a week ago and have been putting it through its paces. Lucky for me, I have become very familiar with the SimpliSafe brand over the last few years as I already have a SimpliSafe system currently installed in my condo - and also they installed a SimpliSafe system in our offices at work. I also installed a SimpliSafe system at my mom’s house in Florida. This new 7 piece kit will be installed as an addition to my current setup at home. UNBOXING You’re greeted with a “Security Starts Here,” packet with steps on how to get started. This packet includes (2) SimpliSafe window decal stickers to display that your home is covered and protected by SimpliSafe. A 1 month free trial card is also included which gets you 30 days of 24/7 Professional Monitoring. Now onto the real unboxing: 1st Box: Base Station 2nd Box: Entry Sensor 3rd Box: Entry Sensor 4th Box: Entry Sensor 5th Box: Entry Sensor 6th Box: KeyPad 7th Box: Motion Sensor Also included in the box is a stake and a sign placard to be displayed in your yard, alerting any potential trespassers/creepy people that your home/office is covered and protected by SimpliSafe. Once you have everything unboxed, now you can move on to setting up the system. Its quick and easy as well as fun. SETUP This is where to fun begins for me, however, for new customers, just follow along with the User Manual step by step. First you're instructed to download and install the SimpliSafe app to your phone. It's available on the App Store for iPhone and the Google Play Store for Android devices. Next, you will need to create and setup an account with SimpliSafe. The account is free to setup, the monitoring service is for a fee. However, you do get a free 30-day trial included with this system which you can try out, but be forewarned, that SimpliSafe want to be able to keep you as a customer, so in order to cancel that 30-day trial, you have to call into the to cancel. So after your account is setup and verified via email. Now you're going to start off with setting up the Base Station. Scan the QR Code on the bottom of the Base Station or enter the number on your phone. You will also be prompted to connect the Base Station to your home Wi-Fi network. After getting your Base Station setup, the keypad will prompt you to setup any additional devices such the Entry Sensor, Cameras (not included in this package), Motion Sensors, etc. Following the instructions on the app, install the Entry Sensors where you feel you need protection the most. They can be affixed to doors and windows or any other point of entry into your home. Next install the Keypad via the app along with a Master Pin. Install the Motion Sensors following along with the app and you’re set. This process should take 30 minutes or less, but go a your own pace and its okay to double check everything as you go along if you’re new to installing something like this. PROS SimpliSafe is a company that I have come to love over the last 8 years. I had an older SimpliSafe system at the old apartment. Then having installed another system at my office building at work a few years ago and now installing one in my home, I have been used to the ease of installation and the flow of the app. Everything just works. I've never had any issues with any of the sensors, or other devices, that I've installed from SimpliSafe. The Keypad is simple and easy to use. The display on the Keypad kinda reminds of the old BlackBerry Storm type phone I had with T-Mobile back in day where you press the whole screen down to make selections. It's simple to use and you can adjust setting for your keypad and entry sensors on the keypad. You can also check for updates for the keypad and Base Station as well. Now in terms of security, once you have your account setup and depending on what level you choose, SimpliSafe representatives will notify you in case of anything going on at your house. Break-ins, fires, or alarms going on. Now I've tried this in the past and they are quick and on it as soon as they get an alert, they are calling you to make sure you are ok and aware of what's going on. The reps that I've spoken with have always been courteous and professional. CON (but definitely not a dealbreaker) After you test out the system for 30-days you have to call in to cancel it. I wish they would allow you to cancel it (online or within the app) without having to call in. Overall, this is a great system for your home, office, and anywhere you want to keep safe. The build quality of the products is top-notch as well as their customer service reps. And you get a lot of bang for your buck in this bundle, even with a 30-day free trial of their monitoring system. Simply its peace of mind in a box.

I got the opportunity to try this SimpliSafe indoor system for a couple weeks now, and honestly, it couldn’t have not arrived at a better time. We recently moved to a new home and I wanted to add some security system. First, I will say the package came nice and organize. Immediately from opening the package, I had a good feeling about SimpliSafe, and I have never really heard of this company. Setup was super easy. I had all the sensors and parts up and running within 15 minutes. The equipment is all white and looks modern. I really like the base and the light color it displays. I left it out in the open in my living room and it gives my living room a nice tech touch. The app is simple and works really well. I played around with the settings so I can get get instant alerts when a door opens even when I am home. I am currently in the free month trial, but I honestly don’t know if I will keep paying. This is the only thing I wish was included or just a lower fee. I already have a subscription for almost everything, I don’t think I need another one. Some of the things I really like: • Setup was quick and easy • The equipment is white and that helps it blend in my home • The app is easy to navigate and the responses work Some of the things I would of like: • Make the keypad a little smaller, it’s huge! • A doorbell or a camera included would have been nice • Lower monthly fees That said, overall, it seems like a great security system, and like I said it couldn’t of come at a better time for us. Very happy with it!

The Simplisafe 7pc Indoor Home Security System lives up to its name. It is indeed super simple to set up. With installing many systems throughout the years (and this being my second SimpliSafe system), it's certainly refreshing not having to spend a lot of time connecting everything. The app, designed to support the system, is user-friendly as well. This makes it perfect for those who just want a security system with no frills or fancy additions. The package I received includes a Base Station, a Keypad with a small LCD screen, four entry sensors for doors and windows, and a motion sensor. It also comes with some signs and stickers displaying that the house is protected by SimpliSafe. To start, you need to download the app (or go online) and create an account. I already had an account, but if you're new to SimpliSafe, you'll need to provide your information, including your address, phone numbers, names of residents, and secondary contact details. Next, you must choose a monitoring plan. SimpliSafe offers three options: the low-cost self-monitoring plan, which stores video and sends alerts; the standard monitoring plan that removes video storage and verifications but includes professional monitoring (they will call you in an emergency and contact the police if you can't be reached), and the Fast Protect plan, which costs about $1 a day. The Fast Protect plan includes professional monitoring, cellular backup during blackouts or internet outages, an extended warranty on equipment as long as you remain subscribed, and a 10% discount on additional hardware purchases. We've opted for the standard monitoring plan throughout the last year or so. We appreciate the peace of mind that comes with knowing we'll be contacted if the alarm goes off while we're away as we travel throughout the year. Setting up the devices is also straightforward. The app guides you through the process for each device. Simply select the type of device you are setting up, pull the battery tab (or insert a battery), press a button on the device, assign a location or name, and then install the device. The app provides videos to further assist you, which is very convenient, but everything is self-explanatory. Using the keypad is simple; it has three modes: OFF, HOME, and AWAY. Both Home and Away activate the system, but different sensors are activated depending on the mode. In Away mode, everything is turned on. In contrast, Home mode deactivates the motion sensors. If you have the camera(s), it will only activate if triggered. You can modify these settings to suit your needs. The sensors and most SimpliSafe accessories are all white, which isn't ideal if you have dark-painted trim or paneling, as they can stand out and appear unattractive. Offering options in black or colored sensors would benefit customers with darker decor. While painting them could be an alternative solution, we chose not to pursue that option. I do wish they'd upgrade their products a bit. Every year, it seems the sensors, base and keypad are the exact same, which is a gift and a curse, I guess. On one hand, you don't find yourself missing out on the newest and greatest every year, but on the other, you don't improve much by upgrading or adding packages to save money. Overall, this system is very affordable and easy to set up. I've already received offers for additional components at 40% off. I plan to expand my setup with cameras, possibly a doorbell, as well as smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. I'm looking to move away from Nest, especially since its security system has reached the end of its life as of 2024. I highly recommend this system to anyone searching for a reasonably priced home alarm solution that isn't overly complicated to install.

The SimpliSafe home security system comes with 4 Entry Sensors 1 Keypad 1 Motion Sensor 1 Base Station 1 Owner’s Manual 2 Window Decals 1 Yard Stake 1 Yard Sign Additionally you can purchase other sensors. The base station can monitor up to 100 sensors. It contains a backup battery that lasts up to 24 hours during power outages. It also has built-in cellular and Wi-Fi capabilities and can switch as needed. I could not locate anything describing the cellular bandwidth. If you purchase professional monitoring the base station also backs up. The Keypad is small, and battery powered. There are no wires to run or holes to drill. When you arm the system with the keypad it will alert you if there are any open windows or doors. With professional monitoring if an intruder smashes your keypad, it will still send an alert. The keypad had a bright display with illuminated display. The entry sensor can be separated from the magnet by up to two inches and still work. The sensor comes with a battery and adhesive tape already installed. The sensor detects the magnet is over 2 inches away from it and signals an open door/window. These 2 inches allow for fitting to any door or window frame. The motion sensor has a 90 degrees field of view and a 35-foot range. If properly installed in a corner, you can cover most rooms with just one. The motion sensor has pet mode and will not trigger an event for your pet. You can also set it up to quickly contact your phone in case of an event. You can also install indoor and outdoor cameras. If you purchase the professional monitoring the agent can also see what triggered the event and act quickly to get the right assistance to your door.

SimpliSafe - 7pc Indoor Security System - White is a reasonably comprehensive security system. It adds the ease of a straightforward DIY setup, making it a stress-free experience for homeowners or renters. It boasts a lot of features, including an unbreakable keypad motion sensor for window and door contacts, as well as a tower-like command center. It incorporates advanced AI protection, which can intelligently detect potential threats, and 24/7 human monitoring, ensuring that any detected threat is promptly addressed. I was looking for something that didn't require high-priced equipment or a long-term contract. I was able to install this in about 45 minutes, and it was up and running within that time. It included one month of monitoring, but they have a lot of different plans to choose from—the motion sensor can detect movement up to 35 ft with a 90° angle from the sensor. And the numerical keypad is smash-proof. I have my system set up with my Alexa app for easy arming on the go. It also features a lovely, simple app that you can use to arm it as well. The app allows you to [insert app features here]. So, if you're in the market for some good home protection without a big blow to your wallet, I would check this one out.

Simplisafe has been a trusted security provider for a long time. I have an outdoor system so the ability to add an indoor system was intriguing. The first thing I like is the packages are customizable. This is a pre-assembles set but you can add more sensors alone cameras if you wish. I haven’t added the cameras yet but I am planning on it. Installation was very easy. Not having to run wires is a bonus. It took me less than an hour to set this system up. The door sensors work very well. The motion sensors work well and do not pick up out dogs. It has been reported that high temperatures may make the sensors less reliable but I have not experienced that yet. There is a monthly service fee but there are many different levels you can choose from. Bottom line if you are buying a security system assume you will need it to be monitored. This package is less than $30 per month for me but there are cheaper options including you monitoring it yourself. The only blemish is the app. While it works it is not as intuitive as you would hope. That always seems to be the weak spot of any system that uses an app. Overall this is a very solid system that can be purchased for a very reasonable price.

This is a great security solution for really any home. I could see using this at vacation homes, as well as using it as your primary system at your residence. I happen to be using mine in an RV and it’s been working out great connected to a wireless home internet service. I love that you don’t have to have a monthly subscription for this, and you can still remotely arm and disarm your system, view your cameras, (even though I don’t have any yet), review and receive alerts, and use most of the features on the app. The hardware seems really well built as well, and I like the ease of set up. No wires other than the ac cable to the brain. That does mean that you will have to replace the batteries, I’m guessing annually though I haven’t used it enough to know that for sure but based on my usage of other similar products, that could easily be the case. I really like the phone style input for the security pad. It makes entering codes very intuitive. The siren is piercing especially inside the RV that would definitely jar intruder. This system is well worth a try just for the peace of mind it gives and no fees option.

I have used many different types of security systems for my home, most recently ADP security and I had several issues with that system, including having to call technicians out to replace components and also having to reset and replace batteries and various devices included with it. With a DIY security system like the reputable SimpliSafe, you are fully in charge of how this is set up and better yet, how it runs and how its laid out. This includes everything, from the base station to the easy to use keypad and easy to set up sensors you can place anywhere, from doors to windows. These are all easy to mount and connect instantly to the base station which syncs with the keypad and the easy to use SimpliSafe app that shows you exactly how its laid out and what is turned on armed etc. The sensors are intuitive and are not overly sensitive like an ADP. The services of course come at a minimal cost, but nothing compared to ADP overly expensive system which basically does the same thing as this and this is just easier to set up and use. Highly recommended.

This SimpliSafe system is a basic indoor system. For what ends up not being that large in size and quantity, it’s delivered in a big box, mainly because all these components are individually packaged. Opening the box, you’ll get a base station, keypad, one motion sensor, and four door/window sensors. The individual packaging gives the vibe that this system is meant for easy configuration and expansion. Want more door/window sensors - just get some. Need more motion sensors, no problem, add them on. Carrying that ethos forward, this kit is pretty straightforward to set up. There’s two ways you could go about this - putting everything in their final place, then doing the system configuration. With the SimpliSafe, I feel you’re better off just doing both one item at a time. First, I plug in the base station and set in its final location. The base station is the unit with the alarm speaker and voice (it can announce things and provides voice guidance to help confirm setup), then pull its battery tab. Next, I installed the keypad. The keypad slots into a bracket that can be screw mounted or mounted with adhesive. Unfortunately, the adhesive strips don’t have pull tabs for easy removal later. Activating the battery and turning it on, it will automatically pair to the base station. After that, I set the master pin, and then I’m ready to move to the sensors. For now, I kept the keypad near the box after using it to help position and press the adhesive bracket onto the wall by my front door. Next, I went through the motion sensor and door/window sensors. Continuing the theme, all of them have battery covers with adhesive that you use to mount. So I’d pull the battery tab, press the small button on the sensor to pair it. The base station announces the sensor it detected and prompts you to “name” it which you’ll do via the keypad. You can choose from typical presets (living room, kitchen, basement, etc) or enter your own custom one. After that, I installed the sensor in the final location. I feel that’s a better approach than placing everything, then potentially running around again with a step stool to be able to press the buttons on the various sensors in the house. After that, you can use the app to set up a subscription account to their monitoring service. As it turns out, you can use the app to install the sensors too, pretty much as a keypad replacement. To add the base station, you can the QR code or enter the serial number and then you can add it to your wifi. The base station has a cell connection which I’m guessing is how that’s accomplished. I really like this design. A big issue with smart devices that utilize an internet connection is often, they stop working or can’t even be set up without the app. And even if they connect to your local wifi, you still need an account with the provider for things to work. So if the provider shuts down, your system is just some reset away from being a brick if not immediately. Here, things work completely on their own, can be set up on their own, no connection to SimpliSafe servers needed. Hmm, but what about the keypad? Because of the auto pairing behavior with the keypad - how does it know to pair immediately to the base station? What if I’d bought it separately or break my keypad and just got another from someone who was junking their system? While it turns out the app can pair a new keypad, I want to be sure this can happen with no SimpliSafe server connection required. It turns out there’s an emergency pairing button hidden on the base station in the battery compartment. So full offline setup and configuration and one can be sure this system will operate as long as the components are functional, even if SimpliSafe itself fails as a company and their servers shut down. Thinking more about things that could go wrong, my next thought was - ok, the system is pretty simple, arm, disarm, or disable from the keypad. But the base station is this nice sleek wifi router looking thing with a glowing light and it’s not particularly hidden somewhere. Unlike some of the old home security systems that you install into a wall and run their cabling such that it’s not easily accessible to cut, this is just using a normal wall outlet power adapter. What if someone breaks in, and simply unplugs it. Sure - but duh, it has battery backup. That’s for more than just being able to run if power goes out in your home. That being said, while it does take some time and add to the period where someone could be discovered, someone prepared could unscrew and remove the battery. You can mitigate this somewhat by reducing the entry delay or setting an instant trigger for some sensors. So perhaps your primary door sensor will give 15 seconds to disarm the system at the pinpad, but when armed, the window one will trigger instantly. This at least means the alarm will be active for some period before someone could locate the base station, unplug it, and get the battery out. As mentioned, arming and disarming is pretty basic from the keypad. You can also do it from the app and see sensor status. The keypad actually has a motion sensor of sorts so it lights up when you approach it. A nice feature for nighttime entry - don’t need to lose time turning on a light. A feature I wish my door lock keypad on the other side of the wall outside had. It’s definitely intended for indoors, the screen has a lot of glare if in bright sunlight making it harder to read. That said, unless you’re tweaking sensor names or settings, you’ll have it inside pretty much all the time so this is not really an issue. In all, I think this is a well designed, modular, expandable system. Easy to set up and I don’t need to worry about the long term viability of the manufacturer - though that would be nice to get spare parts or continue expanding the system in the future. I like that you can start with a basic system like this, then pick and choose what you’d want to add on in the future.

This is the second SimpliSafe system I have installed. The first was six years ago in my home. I got married last year, and we ended up selling my house and keeping her house. She had an existing “professionally installed” alarm system that was still under contract, so as soon as that ended, I grabbed this SimpliSafe system to replace it. I absolutely love how easy it is to install and configure. I had it unboxed and operational within an hour. Of course being familiar with SimpliSafe made the job easier, but even so, I think anyone can install this system very quickly. One of my favorite things about SimpliSafe is how easy it is to pair the various sensors. The keypad is the control center, and it guides you through each step. There are no complicated codes or numbers to remember – just press a button when prompted and the sensor is paired to the system. The window/door sensors could not be easier to install. They come with adhesive foam strips already installed, so you just peel and press to put them in place. My only small criticism is that the adhesive may not stick well to all surfaces. I have a wood door with a rough grain, and the adhesive doesn’t hold strong enough so I used the included screws to attach the sensor more securely. I also did this on my windows because in my other house, I found that they could be knocked loose when lowering the blinds or tilting the window for cleaning. The base station is modern looking, and small enough that it can be placed almost anywhere. I put mine above the cabinets in my kitchen. That’s a central location in the house, plus its alerts can be easily heard. The power cord was long enough to feed up through the inner gap between two cabinets and plug into an outlet on the counter. Since it has built-in backup batteries and a cellular modem, there’s no worries about power or Internet outages – the house is always protected. From my prior system, I can say that the rechargeable backup batteries lasted about 5 years and are a standard AA size so replacement is simple and inexpensive. Although this particular starter kit comes only with a required keypad, one motion sensor, and four door/window sensors, it’s very easy to expand the system with various additional sensors and components. Adding additional door/window sensors, motion sensors, water leak, smoke/CO2, and glass-break sensors is super easy. SimpliSafe also offers several cameras and even automated door locks that all work together. And all are very easy to pair with the base station, though some do require a Wi-Fi connection. The app that works with the system is very well executed. Not only can it do simple tasks like arm and disarm the system, it can monitor any connected cameras and even push alerts during certain events like a camera detecting a person or a door/window being opened. I use an Android phone, and my wife has an iPhone, and the app works almost identically on both. Response time is very good, too, so there is very little delay between the system and the app. Note that you will have to pay the monthly monitoring fee to use the app, but it’s not very expensive and less than any other alarm system I’ve seen. Additionally, whenever I’ve called SimpliSafe, I’ve spoken to a live agent who spoke clearly and was very helpful. Overall, I am very happy with this SimpliSafe system. I’ve missed having it over the last year, and I am so glad to have my house once again protected by SimpliSafe. I highly recommend this system for anyone that wants better home security.

This SimpliSafe 7 Piece Home Security System is a winner! Included in the box are: 4 entry sensors 1 base station 1 Keypad 1 motion sensor 1 free month of professional monitoring Once I opened and unboxed this SimpliSafe Security Kit, the first thing I did was to determine where to install each of the security components that came in the kit. I decided the best use of the system was to install two entry sensors on the front and back doors, mount the motion sensor in a corner wall location overlooking the kitchen, family room and a hallway, place the keypad on a inconspicuous side wall not far from the front door, and the base station in an out of the way location where we could still hear the alerts when they are issued. Installation was quick and quite easy and did not require any drilling or wiring. I did need a ladder to mount the corner wall motion sensor high on the wall so it could detect motion in the three primary locations I had selected. Once all components were in place, I plugged in the base station and it easily connected to each component. I chose a simple passcode for use with the keypad so each family member could remember it to disarm/arm the system when leaving or re-entering the house. A smartphone application is available for download from the Apple or Google Play Stores to use to remotely arm or disarm the system or to review if the system is triggered while you are gone from the home. Note that while professional monitoring is available for a fee once the initial free month is over, there are no long term contracts and no hidden fees whatsoever from SimpliSafe. I really like the SimpliSafe Home Security System and recommend it without reservation.
