These were a huge hit at our Annual Employee Christmas Party, we ordered two and wish we would have purchased a couple more for prizes. One employee that won one actually already had this same item set up in his home... was going to return to purchase something else with store credit, knowing Best Buy honors their returns... Thank you!

I think the product is fine but the 3rd party installer that was scheduled through Total Tech was not. It's not working properly and looks like we will have to call Simpli Safe for assistance. There are no instructions, maybe online, on how system works. And one of the devices is saying battery low and we just purchased it.

Best DIY Home Security System you can get!!!

This review is for the 17 piece SimpliSafe Home Security System. I absolutely love this system. It is by far the easiest home security system to setup by yourself. No need to pay a technician to do anything. No drilling or tools other than a screwdriver needed. If you need anything monitored, they have just about everything that you would need. Each piece has a current look and style. The app on your phone is the first thing to setup. Once you have that setup, the base station is the next thing to setup. It easily connected to my Wi-fi network. Once you have that setup up, all the other pieces just attach to the surface by a sticky pad. All you do is tell the app that you want to setup a new device, then hit a button on the device, it recognizes it, then give it a name. Simple!!! The cameras will need a little more setup to connect to your Wi-fi but because the base station already knows this information, all you do is select it. The outdoor camera has a mounting base that has a plate you can easily screw into wherever you want to install it. Then it has a dome cap that screws to the plate. Once this is done all you have to do is attach the camera to the base by a magnet. Due to the magnetic design you can easily point the camera in any direction you want it. It is easily removed so you can charge with provided cables but strong enough to hold its place. It takes about 5 hours to fully charge the battery and it lasts a long time. The camera has motion detection built in and does a good job at detecting motion. It has night vision as well which is pretty cool. The picture quality for the outdoor and indoor cameras are good. You can set them to 480p, 720p and 1080p. Sound picks up nice also. In the app you can set zones of where it will monitor for motion, so if you don't want it going off when cars go by, it won't. The outdoor cameras even have a speaker that will sound a siren during an alarm. There are more options to change settings in the mobile app than there are on the website. When events happen you will get a notification on your phone and a sound that comes from the base station, which is exactly what I am looking for. It works with Amazon, Google and Apple, which can then be activated from your watch. I haven't signed up for professional monitoring yet so I cannot comment on that service. They have two plans available. The self monitoring is .33/day which just includes up to 5 camera recordings. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an easy self home monitoring system.

A Top Rated DIY Home Security System

After opening the SimpliSafe box and getting all the security devices out, it became time to decide where to install each piece. That was the hardest part of the entire system installation. Where to mount the outdoor camera, the indoor camera, base station, motion detectors, etc. SimpliSafe's wireless hardware can be self-installed without tools. Sensors and motion detectors use peel and stick adhesive for easy installation. If pets are in the home, mounting devices at least 5 feet off the floor should keep pets from inadvertantly setting off the security devices. Once equipment placement decisions were made, installation was a breeze. Simplisafe security devices are well thought out with homeowner installation in mind. Once installed, it was time to download the SimpliSafe application for my smartphone and to connect the base station to my home Wi-Fi system. After that, the other devices connected to the base station easily and were ready to begin monitoring the windows and doors I'd installed sensors on as well as the video cameras and motion detectors. Additional sensors, detectors and cameras are available at a reasonable price to complete the security of your specific home, if needed. SimpliSafe provides a 1-year warranty on its equipment for all users, increasing the warranty depending on whether the homeowner chooses to self-monitor the system or to purchase SimpliSafe's Standard Monitoring or Interactive Monitoring plans. No long-term contracts are required for any monitoring plan. The SimpliSafe sytem integrates well with August brand digital door locks and virtual assistants sold by Amazon (Alexa) and Google (Google Assistant.) All in all, I really like the SimpliSafe Home Security System. It is well thought out, beautifully designed and very easy to install and monitor.

Great for the average home user

I will say, from a tinker perspective, this didn’t really meet my expectations. But as an average home user, I think the system is a great choice. For me, I was hoping this would seamlessly integrate with my smart home system and it doesn’t. So for this review, I was focus on the product from a home user perspective instead of a techie user who loves to tinker with all types of technology. The package itself is a great grouping of products. From the cameras, to the door and window sensors, to the panic button, all are a wonderful part of this particular SimpliSafe package. I was also able to find a location for ALL of the sensors in my home. I will also say, the setup process was very easy and straight forward. I had no issues adding any of the sensors to the base station and once everything was setup correctly, I had no need to modify anything it was pretty much set it and forget it. The mounting solutions for the sensors were great and I can tell there was a lot of thought in to the design of these sensors. I like that they used the 3M command strips for mounting which allows for easy, damage free, removal of the sensors. I had no issues with mounting any of the sensors. They all stuck very well and none of them have fallen off as of yet. The SimpliSafe application is where you set everything up and is pretty intuitive. My only issue with this entire system is there is a delay in communication between the system and the web and it isn’t my internet connection. I have 1Gbps fiber with WIFI 6 throughout my house. I think this is just a result of the solution being cloud based. I see this with other products as well (cloud cameras, etc). The other thing that contributed to my overall review is the fact that the motion sensors are only active when the system is armed. Meaning it doesn’t log or detect motion on the sensors when the system is unarmed. I imagine that is great for the battery life of the sensors but I feel like this should be configurable as I desire to use the motion sensors even when the system isn’t armed. The camera quality on both cameras is great. Great field of view and the two-way audio is also great although it is somewhat delayed. Overall this is a great system for the average home user wanting to retro fit an alarm system in to their home. SimpliSafe offers a wide variety of cameras and sensors to add to this system which is great. They also have multiple plans with different monthly costs depending on what the end user’s needs are. This system really does cater to everyone. I would recommend this system to anyone looking for this type of product.

Complete Wireless video system for home security

Break ins and thefts are increasing and our basic video system needed an upgrade and having one with the reputation of SimpliSafe was worth a shot. Upon unboxing it is intimidating as there are so many pieces and parts! Once you get in to it though it is pretty simple since there are detailed instructions and once you get the App downloaded, it walks you through basically the rest of the install. The system being wireless is a huge plus making installation much easier. Our prior system needed wires and outlets to power cameras. The rechargeable batteries in this system were actually a huge point of sale for our needs. It definitely allows more leeway in placement. They claim the batteries will last 3-6 months on a charge. I hope that's true. I'm sure it depends on actual rates of use. The outdoor camera is 1080 HD with zoom and full color and a 140 degree field. It has a spotlight with motion detection for night viewing. It will alert you on you app/phone so you can see what's going on. With the two way audio, you can even warn off someone or set off the siren to scare away the scofflaws. The other nice thing is being able to customize what you are monitoring to avoid nuisance alerts. The rest of the bells and whistles are sweet icing on the cake for our needs. We got this for the wireless camera capabilities. The motion sensors, door entry sensors, glass break and panic alarms make up a large part of this particular system. They are nice additions, but in our situation, we are less concerned about motion and entry sensing. Here are a couple of pro tips: The system is expandable. You can add cameras, which we did. The base system you usually see has the 1 indoor and 1 cameras. You can add more as needed. Monitoring by the company is optional. We are giving it a try. Not sure if we will continue this subscription service. The fast police response feature they claim is not really a selling point since we live in an area where fast police response is a myth. Video footage and being alerted of un authorized entries is our goal. I believe this system will do everything we want and more.

Quick and Easy Installation; It Works!

Like the company name implies, this security system is pretty simple to set up. I have used wired security systems and by far this wireless system is miles easier to get up and going. Sure, you'll have to contend with batteries, but they claim that you won't have to deal with replacing them for years. Similar to other do-it-yourself security systems, you have to download their app and create your own account. But once that's done the app walks you through all the steps of installing and using the various parts of the system. There is also an included manual if you would rather use that instead. Of course they offer 24/7 alarm monitoring for a subscription fee, but I did not go that route. There are also included signs for your house--one big one that goes on a stake for your yard, and two smaller stickers for doors or windows, all which proclaim that your house is "Protected by SimpliSafe Home Security". My husband and I have been testing the entry sensors--I installed them on our doors and some of our windows. There are eight in all--not nearly enough to install in all the entryways we have in our house. We live in a four bedroom single-floor/ranch house, so we would like to have them on all of our windows and doors (the instructions say you may not need or want them on second floor windows, but all our windows are first floor windows and are easily accessible entry points). We need to purchase about eight more entry sensors to cover all our windows and doors. They do work well, though. When you open a door or window, the base station chimes a sound. It works every time. We have also been testing the motion sensors--I installed one high in the corner of our family room in the back of our house, and another on a bookshelf in our living room in the front of our house. They work well at alerting us when motion is detected. The indoor camera is the one item that's wired, just plugs into a standard outlet. The images are crystal clear, and work in bright light or no light. It has a privacy shutter that will only open when you want it to, so it is definitely not open all the time. (I could even hear it open and close when I was testing it.) The outdoor camera works with a rechargeable (included) battery, also in all light situations, and so far has been working well even in our current very cold nights (we'll see how it goes this summer when it gets hot!). I will say that I haven't really used the keypad or key fob much as I prefer using the app on my smartphone instead; I also haven't tried out the glassbreak sensor or panic button (for obvious reasons). There are also (of course) various other add-ons you can buy from the SimpliSafe website, such as more entry sensors, motion sensors, cameras--basically, extras of every item that initially comes with this system. But there's also other items such as a video doorbell, a smart lock, a siren, temperature or water sensors, a carbon monoxide detector as well as a smoke detector. All in all, I would recommend this security system. It's very easy to set up and get running, and it works well.
