I love my Simplisafe security system!

I have had a Simplisafe security system in my home since we purchased it back in 2015. The initial setup can be tricky, as it will go into some test mode. I had to make a few calls to figure out how to get it out of test mode and fully functional, but it was all worth it.
We were still running their Gen I system, and had the opportunity to give their newest, 3rd gen system, a try. The first thing that I love about the new system is the Wifi connectivity. Their old system did NOT have this feature and solely relied on cellular service, which could be spotty in some neighborhoods. The lack of Wifi in their own system also meant that there could be some lag time between arming and disarming the system.
It is great to see that Simplisafe is going with the times and constantly upgrading their home security devices. Their lineup now includes door locks, cameras, and various great sensors to expand home security. The new keypad now features an illuminated pad, which is great at night.
The sensors have also been upgraded, as their entry sensors are much slimmer and easier to mount in tight spaces. The system looks much more elegant, and is way more responsive.
The system also came with an indoor camera that makes it easier to see if there is an actual threat at home, or if it is a false alarm. You have the ability to give permission for Simplisafe's to access your camera, or deny that permission. I too was worried about the possible snooping around issue. Just the thought that someone, who knows where, can access your camera and look around your home gave me the creeps. BUT the interior camera features a shutter that remains closed whenever the camera is not in use. It only open when someone accesses the camera, so you don't have to worry about privacy issues anymore.
Another great thing about Simplisafe is the price. Compared to other services, their monthly fee is reasonable. Although I just received an email about their service fee going up $2/m just two days ago. A bit disappointing, but still a better deal than most other home security systems.
Another major plus is that you are NOT tied up by a contract!! No one is constantly calling you trying to sucker you into buying more expensive systems. You also have the ability to build your system with however many sensor you want.
I would highly recommend this system, and Simplisafe to anyone!

Easy to setup and use

From a setup perspective, it's very easy to use. The box is very well laid out and has a very clear step-by-step guide for installing the system. The base station, sensors, and keypad are all in their own smaller boxes with everything that particular item needs for installation and its own instructions, so there's no hunting for which screws go with which component. The keypad and sensors can be mounted using screws, but they also use normal Command Adhesive strips as well. This makes it easy to reuse or relocate them in the future. The door sensors can be used not only on regular doors and windows, but also kitchen or bathroom cabinets, safes, drawers, and anything else that opens more than two inches. Note that everything connects over 2.4 GHz wireless, so the system can't use a 5 GHz WiFi home network. It also might limit how far away some components can be installed, such as whether your home WiFi reaches a shed or out-building on your property. The base station is powered from the wall, but everything else is battery operated. The entry sensors use CR2032 coin batteries, the motion sensors use CR123, and the keypad uses four AA batteries. All devices come with batteries included, and they're good Duracell batteries, not cheap low-capacity batteries that you'll need to replace in six months.
The alarm system itself has three main modes: Off, Home, and Away. Each mode can have different entry and exit delays or set to have an instant alarm. The sensors can each be configured with different behaviors for each of the alarm modes too. You can also configure multiple PINs for the system, such as a master PIN, PINs for guests or children that disable the alarm but don't allow system configuration changes, and even a duress PIN that will immediately trigger a silent alarm if an intruder is forcing you to disable the alarm system. SimpliSafe has now added an alarm scheduling feature, which has been sorely lacking. A mobile phone/tablet application lets you monitor and configure the system, as well as receive notifications and alarms.
SimpliSafe of course has various service plans to go with this, adding features like immediate police, fire, or emergency medical notification and dispatch, and cellular data backup so the base station stays in contact with the monitoring service if the WiFi goes down. If you don't pay for a plan, you still have full control over the alarm and triggers ( though no automatic police notification ).
All in all, this seems like a very affordable and reasonable option for a home security system. It's also very modular so you can add on components and sensors as you need. SimpliSafe has many different "starter kits" like this one that come in different configurations of sensors and what not. The downside to this particular kit is the lack of a camera, though there are other kit variants that solve that. Still, for what you get, this is a fairly competent and easy to use security system.

In this day and age, home and personal security is a priority for many. Unfortunately this is usually tied to expensive equipment, time consuming and possibly destructive installation and costly monitoring fees. This system is designed exceptionally well and removes the barriers to traditional security systems. Not only will this system work well in a home but is well suited for those living in apartments that don't want to leave equipment behind should they relocate and there are no wires other than some items that plug into an outlet. First let's start with the basics, there is a cool looking control unit and multiple motion sensors, a keypad and door/window contacts. Big bonus is the camera that is compact and easy to mount. There is a huge list of other devices you can add on later. Setup is about as simple as it gets. Download the app for your phone and follow the instructions. This system uses an almost 100% no destruction installation. Removable double-sided tape makes installation and possible later removal very easy. Once everything was setup which took less than 30 minutes, everything was ready to go. Important to note, my system came with a 1 month of free pro monitoring but it is not required to use the system. Overall this is an excellent system simple enough for a novice to setup but with the functions and features of many hardwired systems.

Feeling safe in my home is important to me. The SimpliSafe Security System allows you to take each item and place them in designated places that you select, without having to worry about a wired system. The security system comes with 4 Entry Sensors, a Base Station, Keypad, an power adapter, a yard sign with stakes, and 2 motion sensors. In addition, I have the wireless indoor security camera. When unboxing the security system, you are provided an instruction manual (guide) and materials.
It's important to first download the the SimpliSafe app. This app was easy to download. When downloading the app you are provided with a code. I recommend writing this on the box it comes with or storing in an area, where you keep your important passwords. In addition, it's important to make sure the camera is charged. It takes approximately 5 hours. The box packaging reads, "Start protecting your home in just a few minutes. No wiring or special skills needed.
The setup is very easy. The app guides you along the process. What I find helpful is that you are able to name which sensors are in what area of the house. You can also customize the names of your rooms. Also like that the items are not bulky. The keypad allows you to set a password, and to time how fast you have to unlock and lock the alarm.
You are able to pay for membership monthly and cancel at anytime. This way you are not locked into any contracts. Here are the Pros for me that I liked about this security system:
1) Ability to power on with Alexa (as an option, but not required).
2) Option to send video recordings to SimpliSafe to share with 1st responders.
3) The alarm that sounds from the base.
4) Pet friendly option with the motion detectors is provided.
5) Does not require wired installation.
6) Motion sensors can sense motion up to 30 feet. Quite impressive.
7) The entry sensors can be used at doors and/or windows.
8) Ability to add ad on to the security system.
9) The default mode to not automatically send videos without your permission.
10) The convenience of being ability to place the equipment in the areas that you would like within your house.
11) Have features to power on each sensor and the ability to power off each sensory as needed.
12) Flexibility of the keypad to time it at 30 seconds, 1 minute, etc. upon exiting your home and or deactivating the keypad.
13) Having the system operate 24 hours with power in case you would loose power.
Cons: None at this time.

SimpliSafe eight piece set has been simple to set up with any hand tool experience.. The guide for how to best place the motion detector was simple and intuitive. I had 0 problems setting up an account with my hardware as well. I enjoy that I am able to use this to check on my pets while I am away. I can see who is at my front door. I am able to see when my shipping packages arrive. All neat features I did think I would be using all the time when I initially decided to use this security bundle. I am happy with the security SimpliSafe provides. I have had no bad experiences with their employees who are monitoring the security system 24/7. I have not decided If I will stay on their premium bundle or just enjoy the security hardware, I now have set at my place. I definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a do it yourself security system that owns a 2-3 bedroom home. If your home is bigger you can always expand the hardware as necessary if you really are committed to simplisafe over other security service providers.

I recently received the SimpliSafe 8-piece Indoor Home Security Kit along with a SimpliSafe Indoor Security Camera. SimpliSafe has become a leader in home security systems both indoor and outdoor so I was curious about the system and what it could do.
Let’s start with what came in the box:
• Base Station
• Power Supply
• (2) Motion Detectors
• (4) Entry Sensors
• Rigid plastic SimpliSafe Monitored Sign
• 3-piece yard stake for the sign
• (2) SimpliSafe window clings
• Getting started guide
• Extra adhesive strips
• Owner’s Manual
• Safety Sheet
• Card for 1-month complimentary monitoring
In a separate box I received the following:
• Indoor camera
• USB Power cord for camera
• Installation Guide
You start by setting up the base station and loading the SimpliSafe software on your smartphone. The Base Station should be located in a central location in your home. Placing it higher up is better than placing it low. Once the Base Station is set up, follow the onscreen instructions to set up the keypad, then using the attached Velcro strips, attach it near your main entrance. The keypad is used to set the 3 modes on the system: Off, Home, and Away. You also use it to enter your PIN when needed. Using the keypad you can install and name your devices.
Next up you install the motion sensors. They have a range of about 30 feet and cover a 90 degree radius. They should ideally be mounted in a corner. If you have a dog over 30 pounds, the sensor should be installed button-upside down and about 4 feet off the floor. If you have a cat, it should be placed where the cats can’t climb near it, button-side up and 6 to 10 feet off the ground. By default, they are only active when the system is in “Away” mode.
You can now install the entry sensors. They are 2-piece units where one piece is mounted on a door or window and the other half is mounted on the window frame or door jamb. They attach with Velcro strips. As you place the sensors on the windows and doors you can add them and name them in the app.
Beside the motion sensors, camera, and entry sensors there are many other options that can be added to the system. They have Glassbreak Sensors, Panic Buttons, extra Sirens, Smoke Detectors, CO Detectors, Water Sensors, Temperature Sensors, and more cameras for inside and outside.
You can subscribe to a monthly monitoring service, or just use the alerts and sirens. Personally, I’m not interested in paying for a monthly service, especially when it’s an indoor detection system. I have outside protection and someone is home 95+ percent of the time. It wouldn’t be often that I would actually put the system into “Away” mode.
The system is very easy to install and setup. It comes with good features and you have many more options that you can add. If you are looking for a system for monitoring the inside of your house, and prevent people from getting in, this is a great system. I can recommend it for those looking for this type of system.

I received SimpliSafe 8-piece Home Security System to install and review. Seperately, SimpliSafe shipped me a Wireless Indoor Security Camera to add to the security system and review. The packages contained a SimpliSafe Base Station that controls all SimpliSafe devices, two motion detectors, four dor/window entry sensors and a Keypad to activate/deactivate the system. A SimpliSafe application is available for free download and installation on IOS and Android smartphone devices.
Installation of all components was very easy once I determined the best areas in my home to place them. Most items installed easily using 3M Command Strip-like tape. The Keyboard installation required the use of screws/anchors into sheetrock to hold the keyboard in place while the Base Station needed to be centrally placed near an electrical outlet for plug-in and not placed on the floor. The Base station's led light indicates the status of the system with blue meaning it is armed and no light meaning disarmed.
Once all SimpliSafe devices were installed, smartphone app downloaded and installed on my smartphone, system connected to my Wi-Fi network, the Base Station was able to connect to all the devices quite easily. The indoor camera required charging prior to being setup using a USB micro cord which was not included in the box it came in. Once charged the camera was quite easy ti install.
SimpliSafe sells additional devices such as window breakage, temperature, water, carbon monoxide, smoke, extra sirens, and panic buttons and sensors. For camera recordings, a SimpliSafe monitoring package (first month free) is required/recommended.
Overall, SimpliSafe provides an excellent and complete in-home protection system. Easy to set up and easy to use.

I was looking for an indoor wirelessly enabled security system to supplement my outdoor Ring system, but I did not want to use the indoor Ring stuff because I didn’t want everything indoor beinng recorded with the same app as my outdoor system. I wanted everything indoor to be self-contained. The other requirement I had was to have an indoor system that doesn’t record on external servers. This would be more to monitor my kids and my dog to let me keep track of the coming and going in my house. I am generally technically advanced when it comes to this stuff, so installing the app and placing the “brain” was simple. There’s a month of free Pro membership included with the system for cellular backup, recording, and emergency dispatch, but I’m only using this for live monitoring and notifications of movements inside the house. For most people, you’ll want a subscription but as an unmonitored system, this fit the bill perfectly. The camera quality is on par with my Ring stuff and on my robust Wi-Fi system, the whole thing has been perfectly reliable.

The SimpliSafe 8pc Indoor Security Kit is a popular DIY home security system that is known for its ease of use, flexibility, and affordability. The kit includes a base station, keypad, 4 entry sensors, 2 motion sensors, and a siren. It also comes with a free 30-day trial of SimpliSafe's 24/7 professional monitoring service. I am going to keep the service, I believe in paying for piece of mind. The base station is the heart of the system. It is responsible for communicating with the sensors and keypad, and sending alarm signals to the monitoring center. The base station has a built-in cellular connection, so it can still send alarms even if the power goes out or the internet is down. Thats a big deal in Florida, just had a hurricane come by and lost power for less than an hour and it was still working. The entry sensors are used to monitor doors and windows. When an entry sensor is opened, it sends an alarm signal to the base station. The entry sensors are also tamper-resistant, so they will not work if someone tries to pry them off. Older and other systems was this cool. Also, The siren is used to sound an alarm if the system is triggered. The siren is loud and attention-grabbing, and it is designed to deter intruders. Bottom line, get one and get this installed. Its worth every penny.

With all of the different home security systems out there with wires the length of football fields to run throughout your house, inside and out, drilling holes.. Simplisafe makes all of that obsolete. The setup is so easy my little six year old brother could do it. And actually did. (Well he helped with everything haha)
Out of the box you get one main hub, two motion sensors, one numeric keypad with led screen, and four window sensors (or door sensors if you want to use them in this way, we did) . That same same little brother likes to get up in the middle of the night so we ended up putting one of the sensors over his door and set it to secretly notify me on my phone rather than trip the alarm. He's amazed as to how I know he's up as soon as he cracks the door now haha. We actually made a game of it, if he stays in his room without opening the door all night he gets to pick from a prize box. Anyways back to the alarm!
I love the looks and aesthetics of everything included as well. Everything is a crisp clean white. Futuristic looking and can go with any home design. The numeric keypad gives you control over the entire system and gives you total control over each and every feature. Overall I would definitely recommend it to others

The packaging was clean and appealing in case you are interested in that type of thing. When a complany pays attention to their presentation, I believe they have taken the additional time to ensure a quality product.
All components were easily identified, and my installation took about 15 minutes in total. I was taking time deciding where to put sensors and once I started, the configuration very quick and extremely simple. It comes with the base which is the brain of the system, two motion sensors, four door or window sensors and the keypad. Additional items in the box were yard signs and stickers for your windows to signal you have a SimpiSafe alarm system.
The main component of the system is the base which you start off by connecting to your wi-fi. Be sure it is close enough to to your router to ensure a good connection. Once ready, I began by removing the battery strips and setting up each of the sensors by pushing the setup button on each one which triggered the communication so that’s base could add it to the list of items you have installed for monitoring. Similar to the sensors, the motion detectors are setup similarly, remove the battery strip and press the setup button on the top so that it can be setup by the base as a component of your security system. For the motion sensors, make sure you put at about six or seven feet off the ground for the best performance. Also, if you have pets, be sure the put the setting on that is called Pet Mode to limit the possibility of false alarms from them roaming around the home. For setting it all up, you can use the app on your phone or the keypad. Either works and is fairly intuitive. I chose to use the app for most of them and it worked very smoothly.
A brand new system comes with a 30-day free trial and there are various plans to choose from once you are comfortable with the system and eventually know what works for you, your home and your family.
It has been a long time since having a home alarm and monitoring system. I would choose this again right away. The items it comes with and the setup were very impressive overall.

Simplisafe Sure Is Simple

This was not my first "monitored" DIY home security system, but it was by far the easiest to set up. There were a few quirks, but nothing more than a hiccup when following the step-by-step instructions in the free phone app.
This kit comes with adequate protection for a basic home--two motion sensors and four for doors or windows, a base station, and a wireless keypad. It is boxed neatly in a modest package.
For some reason the app walks you through the setup of the base and the sensors *before* the keypad. The keypad was a stumbling block, and the app never reported the addition was successful, but there it was in the system inventory a few seconds later. The door/window sensors can be easily mounted with included 2-sided 3M tape, or tiny provided screws. The batteries are pre-installed with nothing in the packaging to indicate what kind of batteries they are. Hopefully the system will let me know in advance when to start looking for replacements. The base has it's own power backup which is supposed to last 24 hours. The base is connected to your home wifi but has a built-in modem for communicating with the Simplisafe monitoring center. You aren't *required* to buy one of the two monitoring packages, but you can try them out with a free one-month trial.
The tweaks are all in the app, you can arm your house immediately or by a delay, and assign a delay to the alert so you have time to shut off the arming before the alarm is sounded. It's a loud piercing noise. Simplisafe sends you a push notification and a text when alarmed, and if you still don't respond after they call you, they send the police. This is the same routine competitors use, but I notice the system reaction time is much quicker.
For $20 a month you can have peace of mind and it's easy to set up and manage. I just wish they had included at least one key fob as it is hard to disable from a phone when carrying stuff in to the house. The fob is $20 extra and I will have to buy it. The system is worth it though.

Great DYI system, compared to the others, the savings for equipment and service is significant.
My only issues so far have been that the adhesive tape on the entry sensors is not strong enough, they failed twice in the middle of the night triggering an alarm.
Was necessary to bolt them in to fix the problem.
Overall, way better value compared to the more expensive options, their monitoring is equal to or better than the competition.

Even better if you get a camera

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Just to remind that this does not come with a camera, you will have to get one separate if you want a camera.
That said, this is a great addition. I already have cameras set up from another brand. What I loved about this is that it has the entry sensors. One is on my front door. They do not have to be right next to each other but can but a couple inches apart. But why I love that is because my camera in the front room is always going off from family walking thru or hanging out in the front room. With the door sensor, I can check out the camera when that notifies me. That is a lot less of the time as we are not going in and out every minute. This is why I think this is great if you have a camera or cameras. I have also placed on windows.
My only gripe and not much because it does not state that this comes with a camera, but I would rather have seen a camera or 2 over motion sensors. I did not install those as I just have a small apt. and already have a camera that does that. But they may be good for rooms that don't have cameras in them. Like if someone breaks the window and does not set off the entry sensor, the motion detector should pick them up. Then a camera that might be in the hallway would catch them as they come out of the room. But for me, a camera would be better.
I love that they do have a lot more sensors and things that you can get and set it up with this. Like fire alarm detectors, glass breaking detector, panic buttons etc.
This is a nice small start set, that you can just grow into a nice alarm system. This is a great set for an apt. and then if you get a house, you can by more parts and add them.
Overall, I do recommend. For me, like I mentioned, it was nice to have another warning when there was activity that was not as often.
