I bought this camera to add an additional angle view inside. This camera has improved from the first version by providing a wider angle. Connected easily with the app and has a better connection range as well.

The SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera Series 2 is a simple to setup and good addition to any SimpliSafe Gen 3 system. It can be powered by battery, or an included 16ft USB cord. You must use the USB cord for the more advanced monitoring options. It can be mounted by a magnet or screwed to a standard size base unit. It comes with several mounting options. The included battery can be charged separately from the unit. You can plug it directly into a USB power source, and it has power indicator lights to let you know when it’s done. The battery can last weeks to months depending on the weather. The camera operates at 1080p with night vision, and is good from -4F to 122F with an IP65 rating. The field of view is 140 degrees with a 10x digital zoom with a spotlight, speaker/microphone, and a siren. It is small is weighs about .7lbs with a battery. Set up is simple. Pick how you want to install it in the final location. Mine was replacing another security system. As I have a SimpliSafe system with monitoring, it was easy to add the camera. Selected add camera on the app through my phone and it walks you through setup step by step. The setup process gets the camera on your wi-fi network and connected to your system. I could see through the camera immediately. Picture and sound where good and clear. The 2-way communication worked with no issues. At night, with low light or in the dark, it could see out with no issues. You do not store the recordings locally. All recordings go to SimpliSafe, and you can access them through the app easily. You do get options to what can be looked at and for what purposes from the app. In the app you can set when and what the camera reacts too, if it should record during an alarm event, when you are notified of motion events, turn the spotlight on, image settings etc. Everything you need to control the settings for the camera is in the app and easy to access. SimpliSafe stores the data for 30 days. You have this amount of time to review and download videos to your phone if needed. With the Core or self-monitoring with cameras plans you get all of the features of the camera. If you want active monitoring of your cameras in case of events, you need the higher plans that include Active Guard. These higher plans will alert SimpliSafe on motion detection for them to assess the situation. Overall, the camera is as good as others. I’d give it a 4.5. Many systems have higher than 1080p resolutions, local storage, and slightly wider fields of view. But, are they really needed? 1080 with night vision looks fine, and you can download the videos you need. 140 degree field of vision works fine for my locations. Mostly covering or viewing out from corners. Ease of setup and use is easy, it was thought through and simple to do. Instead of having multiple alarm systems in your house, you can do it all through SimpliSafe with ease. You can get additional accessories to accommodate your location setups if needed.

Works as expected. If you expect 4k quality---keep looking but for the $$ it is a great camera.
