I recently added this battery camera to our SimpliSafe security system. It is activated by motion, or by turning it on via the app. This really conserves battery power. The audio an video are excellent.

I switched to Simplisafe years ago because they make home monitoring easy—without requiring connection to a dispatch center. This camera somewhat contradicts why I love Simpisafe, because the advantage of this camera is its connection to subscribed 24/7 monitoring. However, 24/7 monitoring is not required-- this camera actually gives me the flexibility should I need monitoring, and still just manage it on my own if I only want self-monitoring. Adding the camera is simple although I had to use the keypad to connect it—adding it straight through the app kept failing wifi connection for some reason. Once added, it is included in the system like the other cameras I have except that it operates better: the resolution is better, the night vision is clearer, the sync is faster, and the ratio maximizes my phone view. This makes this camera a really good addition and an upgrade to the system. The camera is rock solid and is portable. The quality is great and the battery life—at least not having it plugged after two weeks I have been using it, is still at 75%. Now the advantage of this camera for me is when we travel. We do have yearly trips, maybe at least twice and I worry about the security of our home. I do have the Simplisafe self-monitoring with video recording but this camera gives me the flexibility to subscribe to the fast response one when I need to—because their plans are commitment-free and can be switched at any time. Also, it is good to mention that this camera has a front shutter—so in any case I will feel like the Simplisafe team wants to take a peek at our dinner table, I will know though the privacy shutter. So I think this is a no-brainer—if you have a Simplisafe alarm system, get one for yourself.

I have been using SimpliSafe for home monitoring for several years now and have always felt they were behind the curve on their camera offerings. The original kit I purchased included an indoor camera that was only 720P in quality, so while you could certainly see what was taking place distinguishing identifying features of an individual was pretty much impossible. That just lead to investing in cameras from another brand which then wouldn't integrate into the same app and couldn't be used for monitoring purposes, so not an ideal set-up at all. This new indoor camera is a huge step forward compared to their previous offerings and has helped prevent me from switching to a different provider to be perfectly honest. The video quality is much better and allows you to actually gives you an opportunity to identify an individuals features much better. It also has an integrated motion sensor, 2-way microphone/speaker, and siren all built into the camera to help trigger an alarm event and help determine if it is a true threat. Also included is a privacy shutter which if you were storing data locally wouldn't really be a feature to talk about but since the only storage supported is cloud storage its a nice thing to have. The only reason I am docking a star is because I am tired of these companies not providing PoE on their security devices. There is no reason a camera like this couldn't support PoE and that would make permanent installation options much better in my opinion. This particular camera is battery powered so it will have to be taken down or at the very least plugged in periodically to recharge. While they were kind enough to include an extra long USB cable, this still is a less than ideal solution in my opinion. There are no swappable batteries and charging when completely drained can take up to 6 hours. While I suppose it is an option to just simply leave it plugged into the USB port, that is not how it is intended to be installed so not sure what the long term effects on the battery may be with that type of installation. Overall a great leap forward for SimpliSafes camera options but still lacking some of the professional features you would hope to see in my opinion. With that being said I still recommend upgrading your older simplisafe cameras to these newer units if you plan to stick with the service.

I already had an established SimpliSafe Alarm system when I received this camera. This camera increases my total number of cameras to three. The first is the small Wi-Fi camera that requires wall power and accompanied the initial SimpliSafe System. The second is an outdoor battery powered SimpliSafe camera that now sits above the main entrance to the house. And then this camera, which like the second camera is battery powered but intended for inside use only. This new camera is an attractive looking device, one that looks like a droid from Star Wars fame. Or perhaps my vision is getting worse. Not sure. But if anything, it is a solid feeling unit. Instructions accompanying the camera suggest giving it a good recharge before using it. The instructions say about five hours, and sure enough it took pretty much that long. When plugged in during charging, it has a flashing white LED to let you know that charging is underway. When charging is completed, the flashing stops. To install this camera, start by making sure that you have the SimpliSafe app installed and a usable account created. Then log into the app and select “Cameras” at the bottom center of the screen. There you will find an “Add Camera” prompt. Once selected, it will ask which kind of camera is being installed. Choose the Smart Alarm Indoor Camera. Like all devices previously connected to the SimpliSafe System, there is a button on the top of the camera that you’ll need to press for a second. Once pressed, the SimpliSafe System and the new camera will begin talking between themselves. The app will prompt you to identify which Wi-Fi to use, along with the room in which the camera will be positioned. Once you’ve completed the Add Camera process, it is essentially ready to go. This camera has a shutter feature that keeps a camera cover in place to prevent unauthorized viewing. The cover stays shut until it is instructed to start live viewing. When that happens, a noticeable click can be heard and an LED will begin flashing. Both the click and the flashing LED confirm that it is now in live viewing mode. The camera by default will not start recording until it is instructed to do so. There are 3 dots at the bottom right of the app that when pressed will say “Record”. When pressed, the camera will begin recording. When you are done recording, click on the option “Stop Recording”. After recording has stopped, the app prompts you to Download or to Share the recording. Sharing allows you to send to yourself (or someone else) a copy of the video that was just recorded. There is also an option to see previous recordings and to share them, if needed. This is an attractive camera that is very easy to install into the SimpliSafe ecosystem. And once in place, it is just as easy to use. When viewing the camera live or reviewing previously recorded videos, the videos are all very clear. I’m quite happy with this camera and believe that it is worthy of a 5-star review.
