I haven't had to use this sensor yet but I have it set by my water heater for when the unexpected happens. I have been impressed with the Simplisafe alarm system so I don't have any reason to doubt this water sensor.

This water sensor for the SimpliSafe seems to work well. It gives me piece of mind to let me know if something in the house springs a leak when not at home.

If you have a water heater or relatively silent sump pump and want 24/7 coverage, then this water sensor is a viable option. Early detection may not prevent damage, but an inexpensive sensor like this can easily save you $$$ should a water-event occur.

It does not seem to work; if you place it on the floor in water, shouldn’t the alarm go off?

Sorry to hear about your experience! We should really check that the sensor's battery is working properly and it's actually powered on, as well as properly connected to the SimpliSafe Base Station. If you still have the sensor, give us a call at 800-548-9508 and we'll troubleshoot. SimpliSafe

Sorry to hear that you had trouble. This Water Sensor is part of the complete SimpliSafe home security system, and you do need to pair it with a Base Station to function. SimpliSafe

I have one of these already & it’s been a financial life saver because we have a water heater downstairs & a hvac heater in the attic that can possibly overflow with water which could damage our ceilings. These sensors go off at the slightest contact wiith water. These are an absolute must have.

Saved my Christmas, almost a year later!

Never thought I'd need one of these, but it came in a bundled configuration during Christmas 2019. One year later, my alarm starts chattering something and my phone rings. Simplisafe is confirming that my Water Sensor in my Laundry Room is going off. Had I not known my Samsung Washer was leaking, the moment water got beneath it, damage could have been much worse. I was shocked how little water was on the floor that set it off. And this sensor was one I had totally forgotten about, yet am the most thankful for thus far. Dried it off and put it back into use the same day.

    water sensor false alarms

We have had SimpliSafe system for about 5 month and one of the water sensors has gone off 6-8 times and all were false alarms. Not fun in the middle of the night or when you are out of town.

Sorry to hear about that! The Water Sensor works when a conducting substance (usually water) connects the metal contacts on the bottom of the unit. It's possible that if the ground that it's on is uneven, and the surface is wet, that could be causing the false alarms. Or there might be some condensation happening as well. We would suggest wiping down the underside of those sensors with a paper towel, and perhaps moving them to a slightly different spot. SimpliSafe
