Your phone will not record a screenshot or video from your Simplesafe camera unless you pay a monthly fee. Even my cheap ring camera doorbell will do this. Wish I would have know this before purchasing.

TLDR: If you fully intend to sign up for 24/7 home monitoring, SimpliSafe’s solution is a no-brainer choice for those that are interested in the best DIY smart security system for your home. If you want the choice to monitor on your own and don’t want to pay a monthly service fee, there are better solutions out there.
I’ve been a SimpliSafe user for over two years now and with this 17 piece set, they haven’t changed the formula much, and that’s not a bad thing at all. This SimpliSafe security package is a complete system that will satisfy most homes in terms of overall hardware coverage, and is expandable if you need more hardware down the road. It comes with two cameras (one indoor, one outdoor), eight door/window sensors, two motion sensors, a glass-break sensor, a panic button, a wall-mountable keypad and even a keyfob for easy arm/disarming. What ties these all together is the included SimpliSafe base station that keeps you in the loop via app/text/email as well as informing the home monitoring team so they are aware of what’s going on during an intrusion. It’s great to see that they haven’t changed the hardware, and they don’t need to because they work very well.
Getting set up is all done through the SimpliSafe app (on iOS or Android). You create an account, provide details of what property you intend on monitoring, and begin to install all hardware. The app will guide you through the process in great detail and each hardware component will have its own set of instructions. I found the directions to be very easy to follow as well as navigating through the app overall.
In the app, the ability to arm and disarm your system is front and center. This is what SimpliSafe is about, and this is their main focus for you as a consumer. You will also see an events timeline showing when you were armed/disarmed as well as camera detections and the video snippet it was able to record of that detection. It is worth noting that while all camera detections are recorded and saved, they are only broadcasted as a notification to you when the system is set to an armed state (either home or away). You can customize these alerts if you’re interested in knowing about every single detection, even when the alarm is off. If you’re a hands-off kind of person and want to rely on the home monitoring to do their thing, you can simply arm/disarm using the included keypad or keyfob.
The outdoor camera is at 1080p with 8x digital zoom (pinch zooming while viewing the feed, I’m guessing). I know, 1080p does sound a bit low for today’s standards, but the camera is focused on detecting people first, with all else as secondary detections. SimpliSafe has tuned it for optimal detection up to 15 feet, but it can reach farther than that. It also helps keep the battery usage low at that resolution. It has a built-in spotlight to see in full color at night and a built-in siren to scare the beetlejuice out of criminals. Installation and battery swaps are a breeze, and I found the viewing adjustability to be very good with a magnet-based mounting system. As far as performance, detection latency was about 1 second, which is very good for a wireless camera that needs to spool up from a low powered detection mode. The other aspect to detection latency is the detection duration, which I found is also very good. As long as the camera detects motion, it will continue to record. I’ve owned other systems where the record cuts abruptly even though there is clearly someone in the frame. That being said, I do occasionally run into some hiccups with viewing videos, especially live feeds through an app notification. It will basically timeout and tell me that the connection to the camera dropped.
One of my most favorite features about SimpliSafe is the secret alert notifications. These are notifications that are not life threatening or require emergency/medical assistance, but more for keeping tabs on areas of your home that should not be accessed, especially by children or guests. For instance, you can set up a door/window sensor on a desk drawer or cabinet that should not be accessed by anyone else other than yourself. If that drawer or cabinet is opened, you’ll immediately know that someone is accessing that area. The door/window sensors are relatively cheap if you’re looking to monitor specific areas of your home, in secret.
SimpliSafe builds their system around their award winning 24/7 home monitoring, which is truly interactive; the monitoring center is able to view your camera feeds (with your consent) during an intrusion event and make the determination to call the local authorities to your home. This virtually prevents false alarms that most of us have encountered at least once. I think that is a huge plus and peace of mind while you’re away from home. It comes at a cost; SimpliSafe advertises its top-tier 24/7 monitoring service as low as 99 cents a day.
I’ll let you do the math on that one. They will also be able to determine which sensor was tripped (front door, dining window, etc) as all this information is provided to them via the base station. More impressively, they can evaluate your camera feeds to determine if the activity is indeed suspicious, and even talk to the bad guys to deter them further. Ultimately, This service will provide dispatch to police, fire and ambulance if there is the need. Since I did mention top-tier, SimpliSafe also offers a self-monitoring plan, which I currently use. This will allow my system to have cameras (up to 5) with unlimited recordings. I manage all the notifications during an intrusion. Finally, there is a standard monitoring plan which is very much like your typical security system monitoring plan. This plan doesn’t allow camera recordings, but only to view a live feed.
If you’re looking to do all the home-monitoring on your own, you can do it for free with this system, but it will be very, very limited. You’ll be able to arm and disarm from the app, get to see a timeline of events (arming/disarming, doors opening/closing, camera detections), and you’ll be able to view a live feed of your cameras, but your camera detections will not come with corresponding recordings. Camera recordings require a monthly subscription ($9.99 for up to 5 cameras) and provide 30 days of recordings. If you’re not looking to pay a monthly fee and want a standalone solution that includes recordings, there are other security systems out there that provide this at no cost.

One standout feature is the array of sensors included in the kit. With door and window entry sensors, motion detectors, and glass break sensors, every entry point is covered. The motion detectors intelligently differentiate between human movement and other disturbances, which is a huge relief.

Its backup battery ensures that the system stays operational even during power outages, guaranteeing uninterrupted protection. The hub also connects to the SimpliSafe app, which has become my command center. I can easily arm and disarm the system remotely, receive instant alerts, and even watch live feeds from the HD cameras.
Speaking of cameras, the SimpliSafe 17 pc kit includes multiple HD cameras that provide crystal-clear video quality. The wide field of view covers a significant area, and the night vision capability ensures round-the-clock surveillance. I particularly appreciate the two-way audio feature that lets me communicate with visitors or potential intruders remotely. It's a great way to keep tabs on my home even when I'm miles away.
What truly sets SimpliSafe apart is its 24/7 professional monitoring service. For an affordable monthly fee, I can rest easy knowing that a dedicated team is always ready to respond to any alerts or emergencies. This professional monitoring adds an extra layer of security that is indispensable for peace of mind.
Another aspect that deserves praise is the customizable nature of the system. SimpliSafe understands that every home is unique, and their system reflects that. I could easily adjust settings, sensitivity levels, and notifications to tailor the system to my specific needs. It's this attention to detail that makes the SimpliSafe 17 pc Whole Home Security Kit so versatile and adaptable.
In terms of customer support, SimpliSafe continues to excel. Their customer service representatives are knowledgeable, patient, and eager to assist. Any questions or concerns I had were addressed promptly, further emphasizing the company's commitment to customer satisfaction.
In conclusion, the SimpliSafe 17 pc Whole Home Security Kit is a game-changer in the realm of home security. Its user-friendly installation, comprehensive sensor coverage, HD cameras, professional monitoring, and customization options make it a standout choice for anyone looking to protect their home and loved ones. With SimpliSafe, I've gained an invaluable sense of security that extends well beyond the physical components of the system. This is more than just a security kit; it's an investment in peace of mind that I wholeheartedly recommend to everyone.

A Great Home-Security Solution

The SimpliSafe 17pc Whole Home Security Kit is a great home security solution. I have used SimpliSafe products for a few years now and have been consistently impressed with a number of things they offer. This is the largest single combination of their products I’ve received yet.
When purchasing a DIY home security system, installation is a major concern. The first time I installed a SimpliSafe system I was filled with trepidation as I looked at the contents of my shipment. Thankfully, that passed quickly once I started the process of downloading the app, connecting to wifi and following the simple instructions. It does take time to get everything in place, but getting it all to work has not given me any problems. It actually took longer for me to think through the set up and decide what locations would be optimum for each sensor or camera.
Once installed and the codes are set up, the system revolves around the app and the particular monitoring program you choose. There are a number of options for how the system is set up, which gives plenty of flexibility for customizing alerts and responses to fit a variety of needs and schedules.
A key issue to understand before purchasing: You will need a subscription plan in order to get the most out of the SimpliSafe Whole Home Security Kit.
There are three plans:
* Fast Protect™ Professional Monitoring (@$28 monthly): This plan gives you all the bells and whistles.
* 24/7 monitoring against break-ins, fires, floods, and more
* Alert and phone call in case of flooding or extreme temps
* Intruder deterrence with live, 2-way agent audio*
* Agents verify incidents using video when possible
* Cellular backup in the event of power or internet outage
* Self Monitoring with Camera Recordings (@$10 monthly): This gives the essentials for handling things yourself.
* Unlimited camera recordings & 30-day cloud storage
* HD live view on all cameras
* Both plans include:
* Confirm or cancel alarms in seconds via alarm texts
* Arm & disarm system, lock & unlock doors remotely in app
* Arm system with Alexa, Google Assistant & Apple Watch
* Standard Monitoring (@$20): This plan is barely mentioned, but is available. It’s ideally suited for a business that is unoccupied at certain times.
* 24/7 priority police dispatch
* 24/7 fire department dispatch
* 24/7 ambulance dispatch
* HD live view on all cameras
* Note: This plan does not include:
* Unlimited camera recordings
* Video verification
* Hazard monitoring
* Extra Hardware Discount
I do wish they allowed keeping videos on your phone without a subscription.
All-in-all, the SimpliSafe 17pc Whole Home Security Kit is an excellent solution. With the current Best Buy sale price, it’s an easy decision for anyone looking for a full-featured, DIY, security system.

Dead simple setup, good service, reliable

The SimpliSafe 17-piece Alarm Starter Kit is a testament to the modern-day home security system's simplicity and effectiveness. Here's a breakdown of what I found particularly noteworthy:
1. Easy Installation and Setup: The entire system is thoughtfully designed for the everyday homeowner. I appreciated the lack of convoluted setups and was pleasantly surprised by how straightforward it was to get every piece up and running. The guidance provided ensures that even those with limited tech experience can have the system operational in no time.
2. Fast, Fluid App: In an age where we depend on apps for almost everything, SimpliSafe doesn't disappoint. The app is intuitive, easy to navigate, and most importantly, fast and fluid. Adjusting settings, monitoring your home, or even just doing a quick system check is a breeze.
3. Reliable Alerts: The main function of any alarm system is to alert its users of potential threats, and this kit does that flawlessly. The alerts come in swiftly and are consistent, ensuring peace of mind at all times.
4. Comprehensive Pieces: The 17 pieces that come in this starter kit are comprehensive, ensuring almost every possible vulnerability in a typical home is covered. It's evident that a lot of thought went into deciding what to include in this kit, making it suitable for a wide range of houses, big or small.
5. Sensible pricing: I had become accustomed to being nickel-and-dimed from the other services I used to monitor my home; charging per-camera, per add-on device, etc. But SimpliSafe rolls this all into one solution and doesn't charge you for adding more to your system. Now to convert all my other home monitoring solutions over! :D
One Suggestion for Improvement: The system's "home" setting, typically used while residents are sleeping, could be more intuitively named. A title like "night" or the addition of a third configurable option would give users a clearer sense of its intended purpose and use-case. This isn’t a dealbreaker by any means, but a small tweak could make the system even more user-friendly.
**Conclusion:** The SimpliSafe 17-piece Alarm Starter Kit strikes a balance between comprehensive security coverage and user-friendliness. While there's a minor naming convention that could be improved upon, overall, this kit provides homeowners with an efficient, reliable, and easy-to-use security solution. Highly recommended!

A Great DIY System that can add paid features!

The SimpliSafe 17pc Whole Home Security Kit is a great DIY system that can add paid features to provide a complete 360 degrees of security protection. The complete system operates through its SlimpliSafe android app which I was instructed to install from the printed materials. The box’s insert states; Download app, Log in to SimpliSafe, follow instructions. That is exactly how it worked. The setup is really simple. I just plugged in the base station and then stuck the keypad on the wall, near the home’s main entrance. The app initiates the installation process with the Base Station. Connection and pairing with my phone was done effortlessly with the permission granting of location and Bluetooth access. Connection completed with two blue blink lights followed by a steady white light. SimpliSafe ignored my 5GHz network and automatically choose my 2.4GHz network. After Wi-Fi connection, I had to set up a Master PIN number to control the system and change setting on my keypad. Next came the update download that I was instructed to approve. After the SimpliSafe 17pc Whole Home Security Kit was up to date, it was time to add all of the security devices. There are 17 devices that can be connected to the base station. I can verify Entry, Motion, Glassbreak, Water, Temperature, Smoke/CO, Smoke, CO, Panic, Siren, Smart Lock, Wireless Outdoor Cam, Door bell, SimpliCam, Smart Alarm Indoor Camera, Key Fob, and Keypad.The SimpliSafe 17pc Whole Home Security Kit operates by two methods. It can be a DIY home security system that can make a loud enough alarm noise to scare any intruder from illegally breaking into my home or a monthly fee can be paid to activate emergency monitoring that gives more features. Keypad navigation is easy and fast with its four way toggle function. I used the keypad to install and name all the monitoring devices used for securing my home. The Motion sensor and the Entry sensors protect areas, windows and doors respectively, by triggering the sensors to activate the alarm when they are breached. The siren alarm is so loud that a neighbor would definitely investigate what is causing the noise or call the police to investigate. The SimpliSafe 17pc Whole Home Security Kit is a great home security system to start with, because you can add on additional features to increase the homes’ total security as additional security needs are discovered.

Home security service features vary and SimpliSafe provides a plethora of options. Depending on your needs and preferences, here are some features that I consider important. They have a nice easy to install functional app – be sure to allow it time during installation as it appears to need time to connect and search.
Included in the package - Smart Home Integration with other smart home devices like locks, lighting, and thermostats can enhance both security and whole house automation. SimpliSafe accomplishes this in style. SimpliSafe offers excellent 24/7 continuous monitoring of your home, alerting both you and the authorities in case of an intrusion or emergency including things like water incursion (I am ordering additional moisture/water sensors). SimpliSafe provides alarm capability that detects unauthorized entry and triggers alerts, essential for home security. SimpliSafe security cameras for video surveillance, both indoor and outdoor, provide valuable video clips for identifying intruders and monitoring your property inside and out the wireless outdoor security camera has a 140 degree field of view, 1080p HD resolution plus color night vision, and includes 2-way audio. Inside. The wired Indoor security camera lets has 1080p HD video with a 120° field of view for both day and night. SimpliSafe motion sensors can detect human movement in and around your home, providing an added layer of security while set up to ignore pets – pretty cool.
The SimpliSafe system provides a smash-safe soft-touch keypad that is easy to use 24hrs a day, a wireless remote access control with the ability to monitor your home security system remotely using the mobile app. This combined with their live monitoring equates to exceptional security.
Additional SimpliSafe items, features and sensors that are included in this package -
Panic Button, Battery Backup and Redundancy, a 95 dB Siren along with stickers and a lawn sign. I believe that nefarious people will have a tendency to look for easier targets.
Other things that can be purchased include items like -
Fire and/or Carbon Monoxide Detection, Professional Installation etc..
Great easy to install system.

THE BREAKDOWN:
I have been a 4-year user of Xifinity home security system. This system included a 6 door, motion, indoor camera and the original keypad and tablet keypad for arming and disarming your system. This system was monitored 24/7 but comes with a hefty price tag. I was excited to get a chance to try a new system with both inside and outside cameras without the hefty monthly price tag. This SimpliSafe 17-piece system includes:
• White Base Station
• White keypad
• 8 Entry Sensors
• 2 Motion Sensor
• 1 Panic Button
• 1 Glassbreak sensor
• 1 Keyfob
• 1 SimpliCam indoor security camera
• 1 Outdoor Camera
• Security Decals, Yard Sign, 3ft Yard Stake
Installation of this SimpliSafe Home Security System was fast and simple. To start the installation, you take your base station out of the box and then download SimpliSafe. Then just follow the directions in the app. First it will connect to your Wi-Fi network and then guide you through every step. The whole process took me around 30 min. Setting up the sensors pretty much stick and go! I installed the glass break sensors in the basement. The motions sensos were also easy to install. I love the keypad and the ability to mount it where you need it. The cameras are very nice. Both are 1080p and the outdoor one looks good even in the night. The cameras only take a few minutes to set up. I felt like the outdoor camera with the two-way talk was a little laggy. The base station alarm is louder than expected so, be prepared for that when you test it.
PROS:
-Easy to setup
-Can be monitored 24/7
-Included key fob
-1080p cameras
CONS:
-Two-way audio was a little laggy
SUMMARY:
Overall, if you are looking for an overall security system without the monthly cost this is a great option.

When I bought my house, an alarm system was one of the first things I purchased. Not because I live in a bad area, but because I wanted that sense of security. I contacted several alarm companies and settled on a popular company to set me up. The upfront cost gave me sticker shock and the contract along with the monthly fee made me wonder if I would need to sell my house in order to buy a home alarm system. Fast forward 15 years and the available offerings have changed dramatically. Gone are the days of long term contracts and expensive equipment and installation. Simply put…..SimpliSafe is the real deal.
I decided I would put this into one of my AirBnb’s to allow the renters and added sense of security since most are not from the area. I am a pretty technical person so I was able to figure out how to install this system pretty easily. It came with a ton of items to provide total security for the house. Glass break sensor, multiple cameras, door/window sensors and a key fob and key pad. Pretty basic installation, so pretty much anyone with some technical know how could install this. I like that there is an app to use with this as well as being able to use their website to update settings and add/delete users, arm/disarm your system as well as view installed cameras.
With the amount of customization you can do with this system and the cost, this is a one-stop shop for your home security.

Simplisafe is simply a game changer in the home security system world. Before Simplisafe, we had a commercial alarm service provider. It was always a hastle. They constantly wanted to charge us for upgrading equipment that was "obsolete." When we got Simplisafe, that changed. The system simply works! First of all, there is no contract locking us in. The system can expand as large as we need it to by easily adding additional sensors. This whole home security kit comes with enough to get you started! The keypad is easy to use. The door and window entry sensors are compact and easy to install. The motion sensors, glass break sensor, and extra panic button all join the system nicely. Pairing all these items to the included base station is a breeze! The cameras that come with this system link right up to the Simplisafe app and even, if you hrant permission, allow the alarm dispatcher to see whats going on in the event of an alarm. It's nice to have all your security components inside one app instead of parting them out by different manufacturers. In the event of an alarm, the staff is prompt on the phone and very friendly. I feel safer in my home and when I leave my home due to having this system monitoring it!

Simply the Best Alarm System

Simply put… it’s a winner for me in 2023! I’ve had systems that went out of business and my equipment was no longer supported. This is my second Simplisafe system and I’m super impressed on how subtle it is when it comes to be incorporated into my home and how it has evolved.
My favorite features are the slim keypad, the key ring remotes to set the alarm from my pocket, and the sensors!
The camera was a little larger than I expected and I sort of would have preferred something more slim and discrete. However it does have a nice sleek design element so it’s not as bad as I thought.
My only concern so far is that I had my previous system wired to be discrete so you couldn’t tell there were sensors. I was hoping to mirror that with my new system.
It’s going to take some practice and retrofitting some windows but I’m very happy overall with my system.
If you’re looking for a system that won’t break the bank but keep you up to date on monitoring your place then this is the system for you.
I suggested it to a friend and he has already set his up for his 2500 square foot home. He said he’s amazed at how fast and easy it was to set up. We both agreed we want to expand with other accessories as soon as we can.

Like many others, I have been using the Nest Secure system for years and got the email this Spring that support was being discontinued in 2024. I was looking for an alternative because the proposed ADT system wasn't what I wanted with the extra costs involved. I was heavily looking at SimpliSafe and after installing this system, I know why it's so highly rated.
Setup out of box is incredibly simple. You're connecting the base station to the wi-fi and then everything connects to that. It needs to be centrally placed but not necessarily out in the open if you don't want it to be. Just don't put it on the floor. Once the base station was updated and running, pairing each device was incredibly simple and quick.
After a few weeks, I have very few qualms with this system as a self monitoring option. Everything works and the app is intuitive with plenty of options for notifications and what's recorded. There are plans if you want professional monitoring or recording but I'm not interested in those.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a simple and effective security system that doesn't require monthly costs or a subscription. This is a great setup!

Pros:
The Simplisafe system was very easy to install (30 min- 1hr)
Indoor and outdoor cameras are quick and responsive through the app.
The outdoor camera picks up moving items at a distance, which enabling greater coverage
Outdoor cam comes with rechargeable battery
App shows charge level of outdoor cam
Outdoor cam can be inverted
The $499 version I received comes with many sensors (8 entry, 2 motion, glass break, key fob, panic button) and more. 17 pieces including cameras and base station.
4 plans to choose from
Cons:
Inability to see history of sensor’s open/close events
Outdoor cam is slightly bulky
The free (unmonitored) plan is very lacking in features.
The Simplisafe system really strives to keep things simple for self-installers, and in that sense, it does that. It lacks a few more robust features to enable in-depth customization. I tried the system with the self-monitoring with camera recordings ($9.99/month). This plan allowed me to see all the camera events live and recorded. While the basic price is small compared to peace of mind.
That said, the unpaid plan is really just sensors and camera notifications. No recordings, though you can do live view. If your plan is just to have some sensors and a camera, you may do better than $499 that Simplisafe offers. In other words, if you are getting this system, I think it’s only worth it if you are willing to do at least the lowest tiered plan. The two other plans are monitored 24/7 and can be had for $20 and $30 per month which also include emergency dispatch and cellular connection backup (instead of just wi-fi).
I was disappointed with the lack of ability to see sensor open/close history, since I like to check and see when external doors are opened even when the system is not activated. This should be a feature easily integratable within the app and the system.
Overall, I give this system a 4/5 stars.

The Simply Safe Security System is an absolute beast of a system. Setup was extremely easy. It took no time at all to connect all the sensors to the base station, and setting up the key pad was a breeze. The customization of the alarm system is why I give it five stars. I'm able to make the siren extremely loud or low. I was able to customize the exit alarms to allow more time to exit the premises. Setting it up on the phone was a breeze. I was able to give everyone in my household their own disarming code.
It is customizable in the sense that you can always add more sensors, cameras etc.
The camera that came with the system is superb. Again it was super easy to pair with the system, the quality if great, and the sound quality is phenomenal. I'm extremely satisfied with the system.
I can not say enough great things about this system, but after having a big name alarm system, this system put theirs to shame. I am very happy with the Simply Safe system and look forward to purchasing more of their products.

The SimpliSafe Whole Home Security Kit is a great package for starting your home security journey. This 17 piece kit gets you going in a big way, with several door/window sensors and indoor/outdoor cameras as well as the base, this kit is more than enough to get started for a small home or apartment. Setup is easy to do and the app makes adding and removing devices super simple allowing you to expand or shrink your security system as your needs grow.
I would like to see more options in the app, one of the issues that I had was not being able to adjust the sensitivity on the cameras which caused me to get lots of recordings with nothing more than trees blowing in my yard. I think the app could also use a better scrubbing feature making it easier to scrub through your videos to find specific events.
SimpliSafe also offers an alarm response subscription feature, but, it does not allow you activate or deactivate this subscription from within the application. I think this is a great feature, but making people call in to activate or deactivate this feature makes it a bit of a hassle and I would like to see them add this feature into their app allowing you to easily add or remove it as needed/wanted.
I would recommend this to a friend
