The system works great, they have many options for monitoring with or without video storage and live viewing for free.
This entire set is the price of the outdoor camera alone when on sale so if it’s on sale buy it!

We have some construction going on and a need for security. This system, with its indoor camera, its outdoor camera, its motion detector, and its entry sensors meets the need. Setting it up was easy, but it wasn't without its challenges.
The box came well packed and with a "Let's Do This" printed on the main box. Setting up the base station was super easy and, as a science fiction fan, I love the rotating light ring. Hearing the station speak to me was a bit unexpected, but useful. It connected to our wireless network without a hitch (the router and the base station are in the same room) and with it we were able to connect the rest of the devices very easily (they all have buttons...they connect....super easy).
Our problems came up with the cameras. The one interior camera that came with the system was defective. I talked with one of SimpliSafe's phone agents (a woman named Justin) who was fantastic and deserves a medal for working with me. She went through all the good problem solving steps and then sent in a request for a second camera to be sent to me. Oddly, the request was held up until I made another call asking for a delivery update. At that point, the new camera was sent and it was as easily set up as all of the other devices.
The one outdoor camera that came with the system is a bit more of a problem. This issue doesn't have much to do with the system, but more to do with our wireless router. It is something to be aware of if you're interested in buying this system. We set the camera up by our back door, about 20 feet away from the base station. It's a small house, but a cement stucco house. The wireless signal has no problem reaching all the areas within the house, but the outdoor camera isn't so lucky. The signal is intermittent at best. We hadn't given much thought to getting a wifi extender before getting the SimpliSafe system, but now it looks like we're going to need to give that a try if we're going to get consistent use out of the outdoor camera.
Other things that I worry about are the battery charge. Both the back yard and the inside cameras are set up to depend on their batteries. The inside camera can be set up to take advantage of electrical outlets, but not really at a useful spot in our house (it's an old house with bad outlet placement). I worry that both cameras will run out of juice before we're back from any extended vacations.
I also wasn't quite sure what to make of the keypad as most of the functionality offered by the keypad was also offered by the phone app. It's a cool device, though, and having back up functionality isn't a bad thing.
The biggest thing that bothered me about the system is that it doesn't provide a way to save video clips or pictures. Instead, they have a subscription service that does that. It might be more secure than flash memory, but I really hate keeping track of all my subscriptions and figuring out where all our money is going. I'll likely take advantage of the service during any extended trips, but, otherwise, I'll depend on my phone alerts.
TL/DR: Easy to set up multilayered protection system. Great customer service. You need a solid wireless network and an understanding for how long the batteries will last. I'd recommend the system with those reservations.

Easy Setup, Great App, Subscription Expensive

** Requires Subscription For Features **
I originally had ADT but moved to a new house that does not have any alarm system installed. I decided to save some money on new installation and try out SimpliSafe. I was very impressed with the quality of their products and the packaging. It was nice to see everything easily laid out to make installation extremely easy. I really liked the stickers for the sensors and the way it connects to base station easily. You have the choice of going through the phone app or using the keypad for installation/setup. I originally chose the keypad to setup 80% of it then tried the phone app to install the rest. Both methods worked very well in my opinion. Its unfortunate that this system uses the legacy 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi network. I really wished they had the 5 Ghz for better connection quality and speed. The outdoor camera installation was easy however I did not like the basal magnet stand. Its just a twist and can easily fall off if not fully twisted. There needs to be a "lock" or hitch to keep it from twisting off easily. Also wished the outdoor camera had a light. It does have night vision which is great however a light would be preferred to easily make out faces.
The phone application is easy to use/read and provides status indicators. Unfortunately those status indicators are delayed a bit, for example, opening a door will show up on status indicator 20 sec in , then closing a door another 20 sec. Overall the application is very nice and has picture n picture option for the cameras. I enjoy looking at the cameras within the app and the quality of the pictures. The motion sensors work great within the app as well. I enjoy the customizations allowed within the app and the settings that can be set.
Unfortunately the large issue I am having is the "required subscription" to unlock all the features. For now I have a subscription however if I ever cancel the service I loose all those abilities. SimpliSafe has no way to view / save video recordings without a subscription. Arlo and other companies allow a local save and library view of short video clip without a subscription. Just wish SimpliSafe did the same. Also the price of their subscription models are above average versus competitors, luckily I was able to get a subscription through a promo however if I had to pay full price honestly I am unsure if I would have gone with SimpliSafe.
Overall this is a great product , however wish they had a more competitive subscription model pricing. Its unfortunate to take advantage of all the features its hidden away behind a paywall. It would have been nice to see a company in good faith offer more like Arlo and let the user decide to go with subscription.

Simple DIY setup with excellent monitoring!

I’ve had a previous generation of SimpliSafe at my previous home. It offered reliability, easy to DIY install of sensors, and had the ability to “self-monitor” in the event I didn’t want to pay for the monitoring service anymore. Currently, my partner and I are living out of a camper, which we purchased while building a new home on our property. Having a new system allowed us to start fresh, with new sensors, and take advantage of the newer line of cameras for both indoor and outdoor monitoring.
In the box you’ll find four entry sensors for use with Windows and Doors, an indoor camera, an outdoor wireless camera with battery & charging cable, a motion sensor, a base station, some security labels identifying the security system, an outdoor sign with stake to assemble, and a keypad for enabling/disabling the alarm on-site. The SimpliSafe app offers an easy to follow installation process, beginning with account set up or login, and set up of the main base station. Once you’ve got you account set-up, you’ll go through the process of adding devices, with a simple interface of their devices to choose from.
Each device had a very straightforward process for install; simply remove the battery tabs, push the “setup” button on the device, name the device, and place it. Overall, setting up the entire system with all the sensors, the keypad, and cameras took about 30 minutes overall. Once you’ve completed installation, you’ll enter your emergency contacts along with phone numbers, and get a basic walk through of using the app to check status or view cameras.
There is a 3 day “practice” window, where your system will not contact emergency services or trigger monitoring, allowing you to experience the siren and arming/disarming. Once your monitoring begins (it comes with a a 30 day trial), you’ll begin receiving calls or notifications of triggered events, at which point the monitoring will either use the camera with 2 way audio to confirm it’s someone authorized to be on the premises, and/or call you directly before dispatching police/emergency services.
In any case, I appreciated the time allowed to play around with the alarm, especially since my partner had never used one before. This allowed her ample time to get an idea of where each sensor was, adjust the volume of the base station siren to accommodate our smaller space, and also familiarize herself with using the keypad. I also want to point out how awesome the pet detection is with the motion señor
Overall, we’ve felt much safer having SimpliSafe to monitoring the property. We’ve only had one false alarm, and was only due to a family member letting our pets out while we were away. However, once we got a call, it was easy to have the monitoring professional disregard the alarm, since we easily identified it was our relative. The 30 day trial also allows you to try both levels of monitoring, one with full monitoring by actively checking your cameras for events, and another that allowed for monitoring when an alarm was triggered. Once the trial ends, you can call and cancel at any time, as there are no contracts. You’re just charged monthly for the service. We opted for the full monitoring option, allowing us to feel more secure in the rural area. You’ll also get motion camera alerts from the outdoor cam, and the indoor camera offers a privacy feature; where it closes a mechanical shutter while you’re home. I highly recommend the system!

Great DIY alarm

I've installed wired alarms on the job. SimpliSafe created a very easy hardware designed to be installed by the home do it yourselfer. The keypad allows for quick and easy hardware paring to the base. It also provides the feedback you need to see the status of all your access and entry points.
The window and door sensors can be mounted either with screws or double sided tape. A dongle is perfect for arming and disarming the alarm. I have the keypad on the hall where we can get to it from the patio, garage and or front door entrance.
The base unit announces that the unit is arm and disarmed, if any sensor is not working properly etc. It's also very, very loud when triggered. The base is normally AC line powered but also has rechargeable batteries for insurance if power to the building is lost.
The wireless sensors have button cell replaceable batteries. Easy to do to. We are able to set alarm code pins for all the family members and guests when needed.
Best of all the unit has a backup communication setup. The primary way uses the home's Wi-Fi. If that is down it's built in cellular service takes over. My yearly subscription for monitoring is very competitively priced.
Add the camera, for verification during an event so a false alarm is very unlikely.

This is a good alarm system with a professional monitoring available… for average price. It comes with almost everything I wanted: outdoor camera, indoor camera, one motion sensor and 4 entry (doors and windows) sensors. I wished my model came with two outdoor cameras but since this was an evaluation unit, it’s not a negative issue. It also has a motion sensor which I was placed in my basement. The installation was quite easy, I really recommend reading carefully the instructions and download the app as it will guide you throughout the install. Also, carefully select the places where the sensors go and the base will be as the wireless range is affected. Image quality is great, though the outdoor camera quality does not seem as good as the rest of the set. The app is intuitive and does not require a lot of steps but can not record to the phone unless a subscription is involved. This is why it does not deserve 4 stars. The sensors come ready to attach to doors and windows with tape. The outside and inside cameras did not come with a hard base to permanently fix it to a wall. Best thing about this system is that it takes both 2.4 and 5 GHz witless networks. I’ll be adding more sensors and cameras as it allows for additional more of them.

This was a nice setup. A lot of expandable products contain just enough to get you hooked, but not enough to really be useful.
This kit could do with a couple more accessories, but it is very usable out of the box.
The packaging was well thought-out. (picture 1) One odd thing - one of the four <door sensors> didn’t have a place in the box, so it was just bouncing around in an open space. (picture 2)
A smartphone app is required to program the system. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either. Other home and security apps were more colorful and had icons and such to lead your eye quickly and intuitively to the operation you’re after. This one is largely just text.
There were a couple firmware updates to do right away. One took a couple minutes; the other took an hour. Seemed like an awfully long time for that.
There is a lot to setting up an alarm system, and that takes time. But the SimpliSafe components added quickly and easily. The setup steps are in a logical order and the settings can be changed later on if necessary.

I liked the system because it was easy to understand the installation instructions and to activate account. I Would have preferred for the inside camera to be powered by battery instead of being a plug in making it more difficult for someone to turn it off. However, the quality of the picture and the prompt alert signals of both the inside and out camera are excellent ! Great product for the price. I brought the door bell camera and another out camera for a great prices also.

Now that we got all the WI FI issues solved in and outside of our house. The Simply Safe system works great! We bought the one with 1 indoor and 1 outdoor camera and 3 door alarms. We are awaiting on 2 glass breakage items to come in. They should be easy enough to install. We are not purchasing the monitoring service so we have all notifications sent to mine and hubbies phone. I feel safe having this system in our house. We live in a rural area and would like to know when someone comes into the property.
