I was told this could be used as a simple "plug and play" radio and did not need to be hard wired. That's a lie.

I returned to Best Buy last week and they got the radio working. A few days later the sound went off but the radio still showed it was in operating mode. And in trying to determine if the radio went into mute mode, the radio got turned off and cannot be turned on. I will be going to Best Buy next Tuesday to see if it can be restored to operational mode.

Posted .Installation is free with purchase of this radio. Please contact a Best Buy store manager or customer care if you were charged for installation. We've found many people have really enjoyed this device once it's properly installed. We hope you give it a shot.

You can't power it by the 12v adapter. You must remove radio and splice and connect wires. I wish this was kept simple with a cigarette lighter adapter to power this device. Hopefully I can return without the typical Best Buy restocking fee.

Posted .Sorry to hear you did not like Commander Touch. The primary design for this model was to allow all the wiring to be hidden. Unfortunately that may make it more difficult for a quick and easy DIY installation. We would recommend one of our other Dock & Play units such as the Onyx Plus, Onyx EZR or the Tour which have the simple power adapter unit that plugs into your cigarette lighter.

What's wrong with a USB or cigarette lighter power? Secondly, the touchscreen is a bit glitchy. I'd prefer hard buttons at this point. Had to return it. Fortunately, Best Buy is awesome.

After 1 1/2 months the unit stopped working TOTALLY. The other unit in stock also exhibited problems. So I ordered yet another unit which was installed and seems to be operating OK ( but only after less than a month, so far)

Posted .Sorry you had an issue with this model. it was designed to be somewhat universal and with the small display that can mount almost anywhere. From an audio connection it is designed to connect to just about any FM radio or a radio with an AUX audio input. If you are looking for more of a radio replacement for an older "classic" style vehicle please check out Retrosound (www.retrosound.com) they make SiriusXM-Ready replacement radios that work with the SXV300 SiriusXM Connect Vehicle tuner.
