Worst radio ever
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The worst radio I have ever purchased. It takes for ever to boot up when you turn it on and then throughout the day it will just lose signal for no reason I would not purchase this radio.

SiriesXM anytime
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been at SiriusXM subscriber on and off for about 10 years now, i’ve mostly listen to it through the integrated car stereos, so when my current car doesn’t have SiriusXM capabilities, this product can be one of the few ways for me to listen. First the good: that device is compact yet has a big screen, it feels like a premium device. The touchscreen even though it’s not perfect, its good enough, you can tap on it to go from station to station or swipe across to quickly go to your favorite channel. It’s got a few different car mounts types and accessories, i’m pretty much everything you need to get started. The bad: One of the worst things about this device is the long boot up times. About a minute and a half to two minutes, this is not a terrible thing, all things considered but it is a big inconvenience. Another thing I don’t like about this device is the clunky cigarette lighter plug, this thing is bulky and my car only has one cigarette lighter adapter which means I can either listen to SiriusXM, or charge my phone, can’t do both at the same time unless of course you get some other kind of other adapters. Which brings me to my last gripe about this device, it doesn’t have an integrated battery, what this means is every time you disconnect the cigarette lighter even for just a second, it will completely turn off and then you have to Boot it up again. All in all I think most people will be happy with this device even with the few bad things about it.

Great Aftermarket XM Radio
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have another vehicle with a built in Sirius Radio that the interface on this radio is much better. I am in the process of ordering another car dock and a home dock. I'll be cancelling/transferring that account over to this new radio. Until we start getting into arguments over who gets the radio. This radio works with WiFi, so the home dock will be a nice addition. We have plenty of Bluetooth and cabled speakers in the house, it will be a nice add to the house. The other nice thing, if you need to you can use the radio with a hot spot, sounds odd but occasionally I like to listen to a previously recorded show I can stream. The build quality is what can be expected, I would call it great. This is a very sturdy device with a large touch screen. Install is as easy as can be if you have ever run a external cable for a antenna in your vehicle. The mounting brackets for the base are quite solid. There are plenty of accessories beyond the home adapter. There is a remote control, a "boom box" it can plug into. Not sure I want to go that far back to my youth but it might be worth it. Supposedly it is also compatible with older accessories, but I do not have any of those laying around. Overall this is a well overdue addition to the Sirius XM radio lineup.

great radio, internet connection capability, too
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying that this is a fine satellite radio. It is easy to set up, has a great display, has all the expected extra features like the ability to store favorite stations, and it sounds great, although that last is more a function of the audio system it is connected to. I have had satellite radios almost since the beginning, getting my first one, a Sirius radio back when Sirius and XM were still separate companies, in 2004. In addition to this SiriusXM Tour, which I use in our main family vehicle, I have one built-in to the head-unit on the factory radio in one of my vehicles, and I have another portable that I use in my hobby car and that I take with us when we travel and are going to rent a car. It is usually no issue at all to quickly do a make-shift installation for the few days or a week that we have the rental, and I’d much rather do that than pay extra for a rental company-provided radio. My wife and I LOVE satellite radio, and we sometimes wonder how terrestrial radio stations manage to stay in business. The best features are the ability to listen to the same channel no matter where you go and the fact that the signal is not lost when you are far from a major city. I live in the western U.S., and it is easy to find myself able to pick up only one or maybe two stations on my car’s radio. With satellite, I have the same 200 channels everywhere, and I can listen to major sporting events (baseball, college and pro football, hockey, soccer, college and pro basketball), talk, news, comedy, every music genre imaginable, including musician-specific channels like the Elvis channel, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, The Beatles, Tom Petty, Neil Diamond, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, and more I’m not remembering right now, a couple of terrestrial radio stations (from Los Angeles and New York) that are available from the satellite, traffic conditions for many major cities, and more. Traditionally, satellite radios work best in automobiles because satellite radios, unlike traditional AM and FM radios, need a clear view of the sky for the antenna. This works fine when you can run the antenna wire out of the car in some clever fashion (I usually run it through the door jamb and attach the magnetic antenna on the right front fender up near the windshield). But this has also made satellite radio much more difficult to work with for home listening. Home antennas and docking stations have been around forever, but it is still necessary to somehow run the antenna wire to the outside of the house and mount it somewhere where it has a good view of the sky. Then, your radio, which is fitted into the home docking station, is tethered to the location where the antenna wire comes into the house, so it’s not easy to listen to the radio in say, the kitchen, if the antenna wire enters the house in, say, the living room. This SiriusXM Tour radio solves this problem, assuming you have a home wireless network, by being connectable to the internet wirelessly. A docking station is still needed because it is still necessary to connect the audio output of the radio to an audio amplifier of some kind, but, with a portable docking station, the satellite radio is now as portable as any AM or FM portable ever was. Another option for in-house listening to is to use this radio’s Bluetooth capability and connect it to a Bluetooth speaker. With this, no additional amplifier is needed, and this is actually how I listen to this radio at home. In addition, with the internet connection, it is possible to listen to all of the internet-only channels offered by SiriusXM. These are not available in a car unless an in-car internet access point can be set up, such as by using a smartphone’s internet hotspot capability. But this could quickly use up your monthly usage allowance. It’s because of this that I am content to use only this radio’s satellite reception capability when in the car. After all, there are 200-some channels to choose from, and I can find many to listen to with no problem. When I have the radio in my home docking station, I can listen to the internet streams as well. If you’re a veteran satellite radio user, you’ll find this radio a nice step up, particularly in the quality of display, which provides more information in a nicer format than any previous satellite radio I’ve owned, and the internet capability. If you’re new to satellite radio, where have you been? Get this radio, set it up in your car, and you’ll wonder why you waited so long!

Nice radio but poor performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Today I am reviewing the SiriusXM Tour portable receiver, model # SXWB1. I am a fan of SiriusXM. I have been a subscriber from the early days when Sirius and XM were separate companies. I currently have a SiriusXM radio in my truck and have the app on my Apple TV, Roku, my cell phone, and iPad. So, when I got the chance to review this receiver, I was excited to review it because my wife doesn’t have SiriusXM in her car and I was going to put it in her car. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen. First impression: My first impression of the Sirius XM Tour receiver was that it is very well made. The body is solid and very sturdy, and the docking station is the same. The only mechanical button is the power button and it feels solid. I am very pleased with the mechanical feel of this receiver. And the touch screen is not too sensitive, which is good for a mobile unit. Quality: The quality of the receiver and docking station is very good. The receiver connects to the dock with a mating connector. That connector uses guide pins, often seen in military equipment, to make sure the connector seats correctly and does no damage the connector when docking. The connection between the receiver and docking station is tight. The magnetic mount antenna is very solid and uses a quality coax. The puck antenna is weighted heavier than some and the magnets are very strong. The antenna connector and power connectors are high-quality connectors that do not come apart easily. Setup: I unpackaged the setup and plugged the receiver into the docking station. I plugged the power cord and antenna in and placed the antenna in the middle of the roof. I powered the receiver and after what seems like a longer than normal boot time, the receiver came online. I found an empty FM radio station and put the car’s radio and SiriusXM receiver on that channel. I placed the receiver on channel 1 which is the trial channel that is active. Test: For the test, I listened to the trial channel while driving around town. I usually drive around 100 miles a day for work, so I had plenty of time to test this receiver. After the initial test, I was going to put the receiver on my SiriusXM account so I could compare it with my SiriusXM receiver in my truck, but I never got that far. I also went through the setup procedures to check it out. The setup procedure is well laid out and made using it easy. I quit at the last minute because I was not ready to put the radio on my account. Performance: This is the part of the review where things went from good to bad. In the days I did testing, I never got a good connection. I tested this radio while driving the same roads I drive in my truck that has SiriusXM built-in. My built-in radio in my truck rarely drops the connection, and only does so when driving under bridges or next to buildings or objects that block the satellite signal. Even with heavy rains and cloud cover, the radio rarely drops. The SiriusXM Tour receiver had a horrible performance. Only once or twice did it have a clear, strong signal. But those only lasted for a few minutes. There were even times that while driving around in open areas with clear skies, the audio disappeared completely, leaving only the sound of static. Most of the time it sounded like trying to listen to a distant AM radio station in the early evenings, with the static coming and going in waves (yep, I’m old enough to remember those nights). While testing the radio, I monitored the signal strength. The low band signal never left 100%. The high band signal ranged anywhere from 80% - 100% but was normally between around 95% - 100%. Furthermore, the changing audio quality did not follow the varying signal strength on the high band. This tells me that the receiver was receiving a good satellite signal, meaning the receiver and antenna are probably good. So, the problem lies elsewhere. I never did find the problem. Finally, during this test, I chose empty radio stations and changed them to see if I was dealing with interference. The first two channels I used I got from their website using the FM channel finder page. After that, I tuned around and chose empty channels that had no trace of any signal on it. None of the channels I used in testing made any difference. I am not new to SiriusXM or satellites. I have over 20 years’ experience working with satellite systems, including military/defense data systems and broadcast audio/video satellite systems. I understand satellite/RF theory and things that affect signal quality such as cloud cover and rain fade. Usually, symptoms like this indicate weather or an antenna or receiver problem. I do not believe the weather played any part in the poor performance. Conclusion: I really wanted to like this receiver. The mechanical build quality is outstanding, and it is small enough to mount just about anywhere and strong enough to handle just about any driving condition. And being portable, I could remove the receiver from the dock and take it with me when I leave the car, so the intense Florida summer heat won’t damage the receiver and screen. But based on my experience in reviewing this receiver, I cannot recommend it. Final thoughts: After writing this review, I went back and read reviews from others. I did not change my review, but I wanted to see what others are saying because my experience reviewing this package does not line up with my experience with SiriusXM in all of the years I have been a member. I did not read any other reviews listing the same problems I have with mine. From what others are describing in their reviews, I can only come to the conclusion that my unit is defective. I want to be honest in my review, which I am, but I wanted to also be fair.

Bulky, but it works
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My car has an old XM receiver that isn't compatible with SiriusXM. I had hopes that this would be a great fix, and while it works if you really, really want satellite radio, there are a few things that keep.me from giving it an unconditional recommendation. There are two ways to install, either on your dash with a permanent stick mount, or on your AC vent. Sticking it on my dash blocked part of my view of the road and the vent mount blocked a good amount of airflow. I do have very small car, so maybe if you drive a larger vehicle you would have more space, but this took up quite a bit of my available space. My second issue is the cords. If I place the unit to run the antenna cord under my door seal, the power cord is draped across my car. If I place the unit close to the power source, the antenna wire is draped through the car. The satellite stations worked well, but the online only stations require a wifi Hotspot connection. If you have limited tethering on your phone, you would be better off downloading the Sirius app and listening through your phone's data plan. The screen is large and bright, and readable even in bright light. If you really want Sirius and are willing to spend the time to get it set up without draping the wires, this unit would meet your needs nicely. However, I'm not sure it's much better than running the app through a Bluetooth connection or aux cord.
