Cheap, yet also expensive
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used a lot of cheap bluetooth earbuds, usually the kind with a wire between the left and right earbud that cost around $20. My wife has AirPods, and I've used them several times and liked them a lot. So when I lost my pair of TaoTronics bluetooth earbuds, I went to Best Buy with the intention of switching to AirPods. Then these Skullcandy Indys caught my eye. The Skullcandy Indy are a full $100 less than AirPods and look like a similar product - true wireless earbuds with a magnetic-closing charger case. The reviews I read at the time were pretty good, so I decided to give them a try. The first thing I noticed was that the case was a lot larger than the AirPods case. This wasn't a big deal since I usually carry a backpack around, but it can be uncomfortable in your pants pocket. Skullcandy likes to advertise that this charger case has a significantly larger battery than the AirPods charger case, which may be true. In practice, the battery life of the case doesn't make much of a difference to me. I work a desk job and have a charger on my desk, so for me the case is always fully or mostly charged. The limiting factor is the battery life outside of the case. Once the buds die, they need to go back inside the case to charge, and it doesn't make any difference whether or not that case is plugged in to the wall - either way, you can't use them. Outside of the case the earbuds' battery lasts about 4 hours. This is longer than AirPods, which last around 2.5 hours outside the case. However, it's a big step down if you're used to the style of earbuds with the wire between them, most of which can last between 12 and 16 hours. With my old earbuds I could put them on in the morning, listen to them on my commute and throughout the workday, then come home and just plug them in before I went to bed. With these, I had to find times to put them back in the case throughout the day or they would run out of battery. The charging was a bit of a hassle - these last longer outside the case than AirPods, but they also take longer to recharge (a little over an hour vs about 30 minutes). Also, on my pair the design is a bit off - one of the earbuds doesn't always slide all the way down in the case to get a charge. If I don't pay attention when putting them in, I'll come back to them and the right earbud will be fully charged, but the left earbud will still be dead. This was worse when I first got them, since they had these weird rubber things that went around the top of the earbud to hold them in your ear better. These seemed like an afterthought, as they made the buds not quite fit in the case and they didn't really look good on the earbud. They were nice while wearing them, but since they aren't connected to the earbud in any way and can just slide off the back, I lost them within a week. When I compare the experience of using these throughout the day to AirPods, the Skullcandy are generally a lot worse. For instance - AirPods stay connected to your phone even when they're in the case. You can open the lid of the case to check the charge level of the buds. With the Skullcandy, there's no way to check the charge level of the buds while they're in the case - either they're still charging, or they're done charging. With AirPods, you take them out of the case and your phone is routing audio to them before they even get to your ears. With these, they don't start connecting to your phone until both buds are out of the case. From that time it takes around ten seconds to connect, and it isn't always successful. Sometimes you need to go into your Bluetooth settings and turn bluetooth off and on again. Sometimes you need to put them back in the case and try pulling them out again. Sometimes you can get into a bad state where only one of the buds is connected, and the other says 'pairing' - in which case there is a very complex process to get them back in sync which takes a minute or two to complete. (This happens for me about once a week.) With AirPods, if you need to pause whatever you're listening to, you just take one bud out of your ear and the media will automatically pause. You can leave it that way for as long as you need, then when you put it back in, it will start playing again. It's intuitive and it works well. With the Skullcandy Indy, if you double-tap on the touch sensitive area of the right earbud with the correct cadence, your media will pause about a second later. This is tricky to get right - if you do it too fast it won't register as a double-tap, and if you do it too slow it will register as two commands to increase the volume. I've been comparing these to AirPods a lot, mostly because that's the product Skullcandy is directly competing with here. However, the controls are also worse than my previous earbuds, the kind with a wire between the two ears. On those there was a little remote located on the wire with a pause/power button, a volume up, and a volume down. That was easy to figure out, responded quickly, and never malfunctioned. Once you've paused the media, if you need to take the Skullcandy earbud out of your ear, you need to be careful not to touch the touch-sensitive area or you may accidentally issue an additional command to the earbuds. The worst possible one is "power off", which is a long-press on either bud. This can be done accidentally by holding one of the earbuds in your hand, so be sure not to do that - you need to learn to always set them on the table and always pick them up from the sides. Also, you can only leave your media paused for a minute or so before the earbuds will power off automatically. If that happens, you'll need to power them back on and wait for them to re-pair with your phone before you can start listening again. By the way - "Power off" is a completely useless feature that, for the life of me, I cannot understand why it exists. Why would I want these earbuds to be outside the charging case, but powered off? If I want to stop using them for any long period of time, I'm going to put them back in the case so they can recharge. I guess you could power them off to save power if you didn't have the case with you, but I've never used these further than 10 feet from their case. Every time I've powered off the earbuds it's been an accident, and it happens a lot. By far the worst part of these earbuds is their susceptibility to interference. Like I said at the top, I've used a lot of cheap wireless earbuds, and I've also used AirPods. The Skullcandy Indy are by far the worst earbuds I've ever used when it comes to interference. I can't use them at all when I'm outside in downtown Boston - both ears start skipping, cutting out, and delaying the second I step outside my bus or outside my work building. It reminds me of having a Diskman without anti-shock and a really scratched CD. Music and podcasts become impossible to listen to, so I've learned to just put them away when I'm outside downtown. I've had the same commute for years and have never had an issue until I started using the Skullcandy Indy. In residential areas they usually work on the sidewalk until you get to a crosswalk. For some reason, every crosswalk causes these to stop working too. I get interference in my kitchen if the microwave is on. I sometimes get interference on the bus or the subway if I'm in the wrong seat. I get interference if I'm in the wrong spot in the airport. Sometimes, after you get a little interference, one of the earbuds will catch a delay and the two ears will be out of sync with each other, with one slightly ahead of the other. They will be stuck in this state until you pause your media, wait a few seconds, then start it again. I've never had this problem with AirPods or with any of the cheap earbuds I've owned in the past. The Skullcandy Indy must have the cheapest receiver of any bluetooth headset out there. When they work they sound pretty good. They also look pretty good, and I like the styling and branding. If I needed some earbuds to listen to for around four hours while in the woods, far from interference or any need to pause them, then these would be lovely. Since that's not what my life is like, I can't give these more than two stars. To sum it up - these are in fact $100 cheaper than AirPods. However, if you buy these, you will not like them and you will still want AirPods, because AirPods just work better (maybe even $100 better). Look - if you want AirPods, bite the bullet and buy AirPods. The Skullcandy Indy are a cheaply made knockoff product (yet also expensive at $70), and they perform like it. If you don't want AirPods, then consider this - it's certainly cooler to not have a wire between your left and right ear. However, if you can deal with that wire, you will spend a quarter of the money, get three times the battery life, have more intuitive controls, not have to worry about interference, and have only one thing to keep track of instead of three. A few weeks ago I actually found my cheap TaoTronics earbuds that I had lost before buying these (the kind with the wire between the left and right side). I went back to using those and haven't touched these Skullcandys since.

Not bad for the price
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They’re not bad earbuds. About the same size as the pods. I don’t like that you can’t individually use one or the other. Unless it’s the right side only. If you wanted to use the left only you’d have to take out the right ear piece. Sound is good, as well as the bass. With the charging case you can go all day minus the time charging. Overall they’re decent for true wireless earbuds.

Love my headphones ☺️
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use them whenever I leave my house. They're small and compact and comfortable. The sound quality is great and easy to control and keeping them charged is a breeze. The price is good for the quality sound you get. I'd recommend them to anyone, you can't go wrong.

Great sound quality. Comfortable fit
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these for my husband and he says he loves the sound, the battery life, everything, but his only problem is that they don't always stay in his ears when he has them in for an extended period of time. Other then that, they're great headphones.

Love These!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a faithful SkullCandy buyer since high school and this time is no different. I never really hopped on the air-pod trend because I don't own anything else Apple. These are great for when I'm on campus and the noise around me is too much. I have smaller ears so sometimes I struggle with putting them in correctly. I think that is more user error than anything. The controls are sensitive and sometimes I trigger them when I'm putting my hair out my face or adjusting my glasses. Other than that I have no complaints.

Mediocre sound and connectivity
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ditched my neckband Powerbeats for a cheap earbud alternative, hoping Skullcandy could come through on a solid and stylish option. Sadly, these buds are pretty underwhelming. The sound lacks low-end and distorts at moderately loud volumes. The fit is bulky and uncomfortably. And the connectivity is not great, hiccuping often. Definitely inferior in every way to my old Powerbeats other than not having a neckband. I'll be trading these for Jabras and see how that goes. For an inexpensive, cool looking earbud that works fine for phone calls, I think these are a decent choice, but for great sound during runs and workouts, I would not recommend these.

Good Entry Level True Wireless
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound Quality is good. Pretty easy to use. A little bit glitchy connecting to my Ipad. These are a little tricky if paired to multiple devices. Sometimes does not want to connect to the device you are using. Connects to other devices around you.

Good
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Audio quality is great and it lasts a long time on a charge. One downside is that the winged tips can make it difficult for the ear tips to in your ear properly and sometimes doesn't aid in their falling off.

Great Sound!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love these headphones. They sound great, they feel good while wearing them, and for the most part they stay in place. So far, I only have two issues. 1) I'm a sweater, and as I work out, the sweat will begin allowing them to slip out of my ears. This is not uncommon for me, so I don't hold that against them. 2) The stability gels that surround the headphones make them comfortable to wear. They also fall off every time I pull one out. I have to spend a minute looking around for where it dropped if I'm not being super careful. Skullcandy does not show replacements available on their website yet either, just the eargels. This is why I only gave them 4/5. I feel like there needs to be a lip or something the hold the stability gels in place.

Better than expected
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Inhaven used skull candy ANYthing in the past 5 years or so. Everything has been wireless for a while and SC finally got a few pairs out that are worth buying into. 5.0 bluetooth is a must, especially with wireless ear buds vs wireless headphones since the right bud connects to your phone and the left bud connects to the right bud. Not too many brands have a 5.0 out yet and the ones that do are charging 130-300 a pair. These sound better than the LG tones -Platinim I'm replacing, and the battery life is just as good + a charge pack. The touch buttons are kinda bad though, trying to press and hold for 5 seconds to skip a song while running is impossible, and everytime one falls out its Volume up and down until I get it positioned right. Good purchase

I love Skull Candy, only like these
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these and had some issues getting them both to sync to my phone at once. That one was on me, there are instructions I didn't read ahead of time. Not on me, and documented in several forums I found is the issue where they connect for 10 minutes at a time. They do this usually twice in a row then stay connected no issue after, but sometimes they don't have an issue at all. The sound quality is very nice. I use them while I mow the yard or am just sitting on the porch watching the kids and dogs play. I have not had a chance to use them for a phone call as of yet so I cannot comment on that at this time. The case/charger is nice. I wish they had gone with the USB-C, but I still have plenty of the micro-USB's laying around from old devices, so I have charging stations for the case all over the house, but not needed. The battery life is excellent. I would recommended these, but at the same time you may find it better to spend a little extra and go for the big name brands.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not a hardcore gymster but I was having trouble keeping them in place while doing simple cardio.... Um so far only one issue with pairing staying consistent one day it just kept saying it could not pair the bud to each other so kept shutting off and it wasnt optimal during a workout I had to stop and YouTube how to fix the solution as simply putting them back in the case didn't do the trick. I still stink it was a good deal and hope to learn them better.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went into this with high expectations. Skullcandy has never let me down before. However. I did find the earbud tend to slip out of my ear. I even switched different sizes. Putting aside that issue the sound is great but after only have it a month maybe? The sound is going in and out like louder on one side then switches to the other then low in general. I want another pair but dont want refurbished ones. Which is what I know they will give me. I bought the extended two year warranty so let's see if it works.
