Going to have to find a new dependable favorite

I've purchased skull candy products over the years and have always had a good experience. Lower price point with beyond average quality and power. Recently I've been through 3 pairs of these ear buds and just haven't had any luck. The low price makes it enticing and delivers better quality than what you pay for, however the past year or so of ink'd models just don't hold up, I think because of this flat wire design. Basically one earbud will go dead after a few months, sometimes will crackle and/or the wire at the base erratically controls your play/pause feature just by simple movement. This wasn't an issue on older ink'd models that had your traditional "tube" wires. Overall, I'm a big fan of the quality of sound and price point, but they just don't last more than a few months. It's a bit of a tossup of being willing to suck it up and pay $20 every 3-5 months vs. paying $60-$100 and hope they aren't accidentally subjected to the bottom of a shoe or gym bag. Going to have to find a new dependable favorite.

Thin sound, too soon for build quality verdict

I just bought these about two hours ago. I won't comment on build quality because I haven't had them long enough. The fit is good for me with the larger ear pieces. The sound quality? Thin. No bass at all. (Yes, I've got them seated in my ears correctly.) The ad copy is thoroughly misleading. "Rich, deep bass"? Laughable. I'm currently listening to the newest Bad Company UK (drum and bass) album and all of the low-end is gone. Bass drum hits are just thwacks with no bottom to them. I had bought these for use at work but they're going to my wife who has a habit of going through headphones like chewing gum. It's not even worth my time to return these or exchange them for something else. I'll just keep looking for something with better sound. I guess you get what you paid for...

I used a pair of Skull Candy earphones for over 2 years. Don't recall the model number - they had a volume control/slider. Unfortunately, the cable kinked and it had to be held "just right" to operate correctly. Time for a new pair of phones. I like the in-ear models. I was at Best Buy shopping for something else altogether, but my wife remembered I needed new headphones and brought these over. I believe they were approx. $20. They looked cool, said "Skull Candy", so I went with them. It was during my morning train commute that I noticed the sound was extremely treble-y. It was very annoying. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to go back and return them. Instead, I'll take it as a lesson learned (and share with you). This was an "impulse" buy. I should have done a bit more research or, at a minimum, used my phone to test the quality of the phones in the parking lot, before leaving the premises.

I am not a fan of these at all. The past few years I've been purchasing SkullCandy headsets, mainly because I keep losing mine, not because of a defect. I lost the earbud to one of mine and went to purchase a new pair and they only had these. The buds don't fit as well and the sound is no where near what they used to be. These look so cheap compared to the old style (which were the exact same price). Unfortunately, I'll be returning these and buying a different brand. They are only $20, and I used to get them on sale for $10 and people might say you get what you paid for... But the old style were phenomenal... I returned $50 Sony headphones to buy another pair of the old style, so I'm bummed Skull Candy made so many changes to them.

Poor fit - only two sizes not three as advertised

Taking them back. One size too large and the other just falls out. They are useless for me since neither of the two sizes fit. The specs say there are supposed to be three sizes but the one I have only has two so not sure if one pair is missing or the advertisement is wrong. For comparison, the apple earbuds fit fine but these just don't fit right. I think they sound better than the apple earbuds (at least the older ones I have) but that doesn't matter if you can't keep them in. I also had an issue with the mic button - the instructions say you can click twice or three times during playback to skip forward or play previous song but this one kept calling the last person dialed - not sure if that's due to my limited use or just they way they're made.

Cheaply Made Compared to Original Ink'd

I lost one of the gels on my Skullcandy Ink'd earbuds and decided to buy new earbuds. These Ink'd 2 earbuds looked like a good replacement, but they are far inferior to the original Ink'd. The plastic on the buds feels cheap and isn't glossy, so it looks cheap too. The wire used is extremely thin and feels cheap. The sound is very tinny compared to the original Ink'd. The only good thing was that the fit was ok. Unless you really want in-line control and a microphone on a $20 earbud set, avoid this and get the original Ink'd, if you still can. Everything about the original is good and far superior to the Ink'd 2. I returned the Ink'd 2 and just bought some replacement gels from Skullcandy's website.

Mic/Button not functional after only 5 months

It was great when I got it. A wonderful and inexpensive alternative to buying a bluetooth. I have to use earphones to talk on the cell because the phone gives off something that really makes my ears itch and buzz and I'm sure a bluetooth wouldn't make much of a difference, so I purchased this because the sound was pretty good and it got good reviews. I bought the purple one. Well, the mic and the button to turn off the music doesn't work anymore after only 5 months. I can still use it to hear, but I can't use it for the primary purpose of having the other side listen to my side of the conversation and even if I tried to use it to hear only, it just won't work during a conversation. It's only good for listening to music now.

They're kind of heavy because of the magnets. The sound is kind of low but these are my first wireless headphones and I guess that is normal so that's not a big deal for me. The thing that I disliked is that the reception is not good. If you're listening to music from you're computer, directly in front of it, they'll work great. But if I put the iPod in my pocket the interference will drive me crazy!!! That's why I gave a bad review because it was the purpose of my buying these but they didn't work. Also, but this might just be at my gym that the music it's too loud and I could barely hear my music. Again, maybe because they are wireless.

Picked up a pair of these for myself and one for the wife and was really disappointed. For me they were an everyday set - home, work, commute. Just about three months in they stopped working randomly. I used them on the train going to work, paused my podcast to get an egg sandwich and then when I went to unpause - nothing. My wife uses her pair just to listen to music while she sleeps and they have also been giving her problems. Really bummed at how crappy these turned out. Won’t ever buy SkullCandy headphones again.

    Cut out

After a month or two of having these ear phones, they've started cutting out very frequently, to where I can't understand anything that's going on in my music or games, and there are points were they will cut off for an extended period of time (around a minute before I unplug them). When they're working, they work great! But the cutting out is quite irritating. It mostly happens for the first 10 minutes or so that I start using them, and then they work fine. I feel like mine is an isolated incidence, but I also feel others should know about this.

I have had 3 pairs of these . I like them because I have very small ears and they are the only ones I can tolerate . However - they do 2 really horrible things. First , there is a known issue with the input connection / iphone where it causes your music and Siri to start up for no reason . Super annoying ... Second, they break very easily - one side or both have just stopped working after 3-6 months. If they weren't fairly cheap I would be more annoyed , but you really get what you pay for with these... I kept my reciept this time.

I got these thinking they would be great. Never had a bad pair of Skull Candy's. But these were horrible. Bad audio quality. I'd believe if someone told me these were a knock off $5 pair from Amazon. The tips were silicon, but not soft. Audio was bad. Not as in, "there is not enough bass," but as in there was not much of anything. Had they been comfortable, audiobooks and podcasts would be good. But not even then. I lost them, or the cat took them, which is sad. Because I wanted my money back on these.

I bought skull candy because I've heard such good things about them and they aren't outrageously priced but they are driving me crazy. The sound is very good I have no problems with that. My issue with these headphones is that they are constantly falling out, I turn my head, I change the song, I pick up my iPod, I breath wrong and they're on the ground. I find that they spend more time under my feet then in my ears, I bought them for at work where I am standing for eight hours and I can't wait to replace them.

Out of the box these were OK - by no means for the audiophile, but fine for working out, in the office, just lounging at the pool. 1st use was for about 45 min., then off to bed. Next night, noticed a scratching noise that got worse over several minutes. Close examination revealed the right ear bud was loose on the wire with bare wire exposed. A very slight tub and the bud fell off. Best Buy folks were great - an immediate refund, but I still had to drive 25 miles one way to return them. Pay the extra up front instead of in your gas tank for the inevitable return.

I purchased this product because I wanted something inexpensive to use at the gym but sound decent enough. I picked this after looking at reviews. The wire was long enough and the sound quality was actually pretty good for these lower cost wired headphones. Unfortunately, less than 2 weeks after purchasing, the right earpiece started to break away exposing the wires. All sound in that earpiece ceased shortly after. Again, sound was pleasant but build quality was poor.

This is about the 20 pair of these headphones I have purchase in the last few years. Literally 20, maybe more, and I keep coming back to them because of the price. I use the headphones 10+ hours a day, 5 days per week! The always startout just fine but eventually one side will go out, the button won't work, the microphone stops working etc etc. I have purchase many headphones, some $200+ and those eventually do the same thing. So I continue to purchase these and know I'll be replacing them after a few months!

I work in SF and I use these a lot while on public transit. I also use them a lot while i'm sitting at work. I even use them for making calls so i'm a pretty heavy user. I like how it appears to be tangle free, but its not as tangle free as dre urbeats... but of course, urbeats are $100 and these are $12 (on sale). the left earbud lost its sound after less than 2 weeks of using. I'm very disappointed. At least it's still on Best buy warranty so I can return it. Looks like I'll be getting the urbeats for $100 now.

    Headset not good.

The sound is good but I generally got these to run with and to talk while on the go. I CANT do neither ! While I ran with these on my iPhone, the music skipped like I was running with a CD player in my hand and I know it's the headset because I've tried a different headset and I didn't have that issue. The microphone is extremely cheap. I can't talk on the headset when there's heavy traffic outside or loud outside noises because the mic has a popping sound and the person on the other line only hears popping sound and not my voice.

These skullcandies prove better than other low tier brands like JVC's Gummy line - but only when their prices match. $10-13 is my reccomended range for these. The quality is fine and the controls work. But they aren't to par with Panasonic's buds. I also really dislike the wires here - they are flat and feel really cheap and prone to breaking. Some people might like that style, but I certainly don't. Do NOT purchase these for more than $13 and definitely don't pick these up if you know you're going to be rough with them.

I purchased these as a gift for someone who uses earbuds often--and by often I mean 14 hours out of the day. He said they fell apart quickly (in a matter of weeks) and the sound quality was only mediocre. Looks aren't really a factor for the recipient of these earbuds, but neither he nor I thought they were particularly sleek or good looking--juvenile, perhaps, if anything. I just couldn't believe the wires began coming out only after a few weeks. Poorly made. Even the $5 Memorex earbuds on clearance at Office Depot held up better.
