Easy to Install and Use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m not the handiest guy but I easily installed this doorbell. I downloaded the app and was able to quickly connect the doorbell to my WiFi. The video quality is great and the motion detection triggers the camera quickly. It has an LED light on it that has three brightness settings and you can choose it’s color. The light is visible at a distance and hopefully will help deter any porch pirates. I’m happy with my purchase and would recommend this doorbell to others.

A video doorbell that needs no subscription!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally! A video doorbell that does not require a subscription!! This is a big plus!! The doorbell comes with everything you need get set up, even a screwdriver and expansion anchors! Setup is a breeze. It's basically just take your doorbell off, attach the wires, and attach this to the wall. It takes a few minutes!! The video that this doorbell takes is crystal clear. The night vision is incredible How they do that with such a small camera is beyond me. After installation, setup requires the use of an app which is downloadable from your app store. After downloading the app, you need to connect everything to your wifi and you are ready to go. You can switch from 720 to 1080 through the app. It alerts you when the motion sensor goes off, and I have not had any false alarms yet. The only thing preventing me from giving this 5 stars is the fact that it does not come with the wedge mount. My doorbell is mounted on a perpendicular wall so the camera points parallel to the door. There is a wedge mount that you can buy for $10 from Skybell. It allows you to aim the doorbell a little to the right or left to increase the field of view away from the door. It would have been nice to have this included in the package. Most people have access to a screwdriver, but they don't have a wedge mount. I suggest that they substitute the wedge mount for the screwdriver. It is for this reason that I cannot give 5 stars.

good video door bell
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.great video door bell for my mom. easy to install. I did purchase a new transformer just because the one in the house was 60 years old and decided it would be better to change now than possibly have a problem later. mom feels better about not having to answer door at night without knowing who is there

Best video doorbell for the money.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, there are a lot of long reviews here for the SkyBell - Trim Plus Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell. Some are very detailed going over every spec. My review is not going to do that, you can always refer to the other reviews and Bestbuy product details. Let me start by saying this the SkyBell - Trim Plus Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell is simply a great product. It hits nearly every mark : Installation - For people , this is pretty straightforward but there are some caveats. The instructions that come with the unit are woefully lacking and you should refer to the website. If you are not using a doorbell chime, you MUST use a 10 ohm/10 watt resistor in between one connection of a SkyBell wire to a power wire. This is not listed anywhere on the box nor the provided quick start guide. For most people, you will be connecting this to an existing doorbell chime. Setup – Setup and installation are two different aspects of the Skybell Trim Plus. You need to download the app, create an account and follow the prompts to connect to the doorbell. It worked flawlessly and I had no issues. I had the Skybell Trim Plus up and running in a few minutes. The app is not fancy and that is a good thing. A simple , clean intuitive interface that handles all the functions. This is a mobile app only device, there is no web interface. Fit and Finish – The Skybell is an unobtrusive , slim line video doorbell that wil fit just about anywhere. It appears to be made of metal at first glance, but it is all plastic. Nothing wrong with that, the Skybell well made and has a nice finish. Function – At first I was not thrilled with the quality of the video but then I got into the settings and changed it to 1080P and it was fantastic and perfectly clear. Somehow I had it on the lowest video quality setting. It worked nearly as well at 720P. The night vision works well and it appears the doorbell button provides enough light to assist in the night vision. I did notice a line of artifacts on the bottom of the screen. It does affect the video and only appears on the 1080P. I am not sure if that is my router signal strength or something else. Regardless, I found the video quality and the field of vision to be excellent. The doorbell also includes two-way audio. You can adjust the volume of the audio and I would suggest putting it on its highest setting. The Skybell Trim Plus includes a motion sensor which works but there is some latency between sensing motion and getting an alert on my phone. Videos can be stored on the cloud and directly accessed through your phone. The only issues I experience was several times I got the error message “ video stream could not be established.” It seemed to happened more frequently if I clicked on the doorbell ring notice when it came across my phone. I simply went into the video directly and everything worked fine. In summary , I really liked the SkyBell - Trim Plus Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell. It does everything it says it does. There were some minor functioning issues but I confident that they is related to my network rather than the device. Putting everything aside, what really sells this video doorbell is there are no additional subscription fees. You are paying for the cost of the device and that is it – you have a full functioning video door bell with all the bells and whistles ( pun intended.) If you look at the competition , they charge $30 to $60 year. You may get a few features like facial and object recognition but I could not care less about that . I want to buy something that works and not have to deal with additional fees for the life of the doorbell. The SkyBell - Trim Plus Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell does all that and more.

Pluses and minuses
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The WiFi needs to be strong enough to reach the doorbell to make it work effectively every time. It can also be added to your ADT security system if you have it. We get unnecessary notices when the doorbell records moving trees in the wind.

Good, but missing that one thing...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s hard to argue the convenience of having an entry door cam, especially the front door. Whether for receiving packages, knowing when unsuspecting visitors stop by, or just to take a quick look every now and then, a front door camera delivers the goods. After being someone who has teetered on the idea of having a doorbell camera, the Skybell Trim Plus turned out to be a good place to start. Pick up the Trim Plus box and you will notice it is packaged well. The contents of the box are very well protected with a soft contoured foam. Packaging can make or break a first impression, and Skybell didn’t disappoint. Another note upon opening the box is the inclusion of tools which could be key to successful installation. Kudos to Skybell for including a screwdriver and masonry drill bit. All you need (possibly) is a drill, and you’re ready to install. The first thing I noticed about the device itself is that it’s not very discreet. There is a power light built into the body, and the doorbell button is lit with “SKYBELL” on it – definitely doesn’t look like your standard doorbell. The Trim Plus is well made and seems pretty sturdy. I felt pretty secure about stability once mounted. Directions for install are pretty straight forward. Download the app and follow the instructional prompts. You basically connect to the Trim Plus, then connect it to your wireless router. The only problem I encountered during installation was a buzzing sound from my doorbell chime. There appears to be a power issue with chimes that are a bit older, so keep that in mind. The app is pretty straight forward. It will notify you when the bell is rung, and you can use it to view live a live camera feed. Skybell also gives you free cloud recording. When the bell is rung, the Trim Plus records around 30 seconds or so of footage. I found the Trim Plus to be fairly responsive in notifying me of a visitor when I was away from my home. Of course, when in the house and on the same network, the notification is nearly instantaneous, but Skybell has done a decent job on notifications over mobile. There is a delay, but it’s reasonable – you can more than likely catch the person at the door. Video quality was pretty decent. I found the framerate to leave a little to be desired, but it is clear and handles variations of light fairly well. The camera has color night vision, which I was very skeptical of. It turns out it is decent, but I think I would love the option to switch to standard night vision if desired. With all these wonderful features, the Trim Plus falls just short due to one irritating omission – and it is a shame if no other doorbell cam has it. All doorbell locations are not created equally. The location of my button is significantly out of the direct line of site of the door. There should be a way to adjust the camera to account for this. A couple of small fine tuning screws on a cogged swivel would do the trick. The lack of this feature hurts the overall usefulness of the product in my opinion. The consumer has to account for this by altering the existing mount or building a custom mount. Sure, the camera has nearly 180 degrees of visibility, but as with most people, I want my doorway filling most of that picture, more specifically the center of it. With all that being said, the Skybell Trim Plus is a good buy. It definitely gets the job done, and serves as a viable solution for those seeking a doorbell cam. It has Nest and ITTTF integration, and the app is very responsive and easy to use. Just remember, pay attention to mounting locations.

Great Wifi Video Doorbell with Free cloud storage
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Skybell trim plus is a slim version of it's HD doorbell. I received the brushed aluminum finish but it is also available in bronze. The bell looks great installed. You can change the color of the led illumination in the app or even turn it off. The dimensions are 1.44" x 4.8" x1.13" a more conventional rectangular shape then the original skybell. The video is clear and great quality with full color day and night. With it's 180 degree lens and 5x zoom you can see everything you need to easily. For those of you that live in extreme climates think Death Valley or Antarctica this may be the video doorbell for you as its operating range is -40 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit! No other manufacturer claims this operating range. For power it uses your conventional doorbell transformer wires. The mounting screws for wood and plastic anchors for other surfaces are included. Just remove the original bell and mount the mounting plate with the 2 screws. Connect the 2 wires then attach the Skybell with the single screw on the bottom, they even include a small screwdriver for this. Setup is easy, download the Skybell app from Google Play or the Apple app store. Start up the App and follow the pairing instructions. Follow the steps exactly and you will not have problems. You will have to have your 2.4mhz wireless SSID and password so make sure you know it. Live stream video at 720 or 1080p with audio is available from the app you can also speak by holding down the green phone button. The Skybell has adjustable motion detection and will automatically record when it detects movement and email you an alert. You can connect manually and it will record that. All recorded video is stored for 7 days and is available for download or viewing during that time. There is no charge for cloud storage unlike other video doorbells. There are some integrations available with Nest, IFTTT and Kevo, I have not tested this. The Skybell has performed flawlessly since I set it up. I am really enjoying it. The only drawback is it will not work if you do not have a conventional wired doorbell transformer setup. If you have digital chimes you will probably need an adapter sold by Skybell.

Such a disappointment
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So disappointed in this doorbell, I really wanted it to be all it claimed to be, but unfortunately it simply does not work as advertised. First the good: the doorbell seems to be well built, camera is excellent with wide angle viewing and even color infra-red. Installation was fairly simple and straight forward, although it would be helpful if they mentioned that the angle mount, such as those provide by nearly all other manufacturers, is not included. Notification is very quick when the button is pushed or on the rare occasion when motion is actually detected (more on that later). On-demand pictures or video are available when connected live, view and download recordings, speak to whoever is at the doorbell, etc. Problem is the motion detection, or lack thereof. They try to fool you by holding a certain amount of video in memory, which allows them to backup and start the video recordings before motion was actually detected, which can be misleading. If you think the beginning of that notification video is when motion was detected...it isn't. Move it ahead to the 5 or 10 second mark and you'll be closer to when motion was actually detected. I did my own tests by simply walking up to the doorbell and noting when it detected me, a task made easy because the bright white LED's light up when motion is detected. The maximum detection range was 2 - 3 feet with sensitivity set to high. Changing the sensitivity setting to medium reduced the range to 12" or less. Yes that's inches. I was able to walk around my porch for several minutes, passing within 3 - 5 ft of the doorbell, and it never detected me. I tested it for a week with temps in 70's, 80's and 90's, all with the same lack of result. So much for catching porch thieves. It's also worth mentioning that the one time someone actually rang the doorbell...I could not connect to it ("Unable to establish stream") and no, it was most definitely NOT my network. Tech support seemed great for the first few days, answering calls and e-mails fairly quickly, but after a couple of days with no improvement that all changed. Whatever they “tweaked” did not help detection and also made the LED light stop working completely. On a side note…I sent them a picture of the non-functioning light as requested, never received a reply to that pic. When they could not make it work they tried pointing the blame to my network until I informed them that I am an I.T. professional (developer). I work from home and must have fast, reliable internet. The doorbell is within a few feet of the modem, I reboot my WiFi system twice monthly and the measured WiFi signal at the doorbell is extremely fast (40+ Mps up, 15.6 Mps down, 15 ms ping). And just that quickly all tech support pretty much ended. I tried calling support four times over a three day period after that with no answer or return call. I left three voice-mails but the "guaranteed" return call never came. The fourth call they simply disconnect me while on hold without ever answering. The only contact I received after that was when, out of frustration, I threatened to file a complaint with the BBB, and then it was just another suggestion to check my network. Ironically, I half expect a quicker reply to this review than I got from Skybell Tech Support in the end. Thank goodness for Best Buy. After a week of non-functioning doorbell and poor support I have now returned my Skybell Trim Plus for a full refund and ordered a Remo S.

Doorbell of the Future...Now!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As we've continued to add smart devices to our home, I've researched the different video doorbell options available and they all seem to be pretty close in terms of features and benefits. The Skybell Trim Plus WiFi Video Doorbell caught my eye as it's one of the few, if any, smart doorbells that does not require a paid online storage account. Those fees can mount up when you include all of the potential smart devices around the home. So I took the plunge on the Skybell unit and couldn't be happier. Installation and Setup: The unit was well packed and includes the doorbell unit, mounting plate/hardware and the manual. Pretty straight forward, and the install was just that. As our home has a standard low-voltage wired doorbell, the install was as easy as swapping out the old doorbell with the Skybell unit...literally two wires...and they're low-voltage so it's a DIY project for sure. I downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, created an account and configured the doorbell. That's pretty much it and you're ready to go. The camera is setup at 720p out of the box and having the bandwidth to support it, I upped it to 1080p. Operating: The system is very easy to use once everything is set up. The video quality is crisp and the two-way audio works really well. Part of the reason I wanted a system was to be able to speak with UPS and Fedex as we get numerous deliveries each week..and they still need direction sometimes! People have mentioned a bit of a lag, and I would agree with that, but isn't enough to be a concern. Pros: - Great design and two color options available to match most homes - Free Service - no paid account required for storage - Easy Installation and setup - Two way audio feature - Crisp video and pictures day or night - 180° viewing angle - most cameras offer 160° viewing - Motion sensor option Cons: - Unit is pretty much all plastic, on the exterior, may hold up better in harsh New England winters though! - Although it's listed in several places, there does not appear to be a MacOS app to support laptop use. - Lack of integration with other Smart Home devices and apps. All-in-all this is a great addition to the smart device list. It's well designed/built, was easy to install and configure and is a snap to use. I would certainly recommend this unit if you're in the market.

Doorbell For The Modern World
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With online shopping and next day delivery a way of life, we felt we needed a way to monitor the front porch. The ability to answer the door from a phone anywhere seemed like a good idea as well. Our initial checklist for a video wifi bell was 1080p or better resolution, phone integration, motion sensing and capture, two way audio, and free cloud storage. The SkyBell Trim Plus was a good fit, and it didn't require a separate battery. Installation: Installation was pretty easy: remove the old doorbell button, drill a couple of holes, screw in the baseplate, attach the two wires, snap on the unit, and tighten the locking screw. Complete setup. But the doorbell doesn't work, wait, WHAT! Ok, turns out that older homes used 10V transformers (lucky us!), and the SkyBell (and almost all video doorbells, by the way) need a minimum 16V. Find the transformer hidden in your house somewhere (google this!), buy a new one at the hardware store, swap in the new one, and everything is fine. But if you're not comfortable playing with 110VAC naked wires, hire a professional! NOTE: if you have a digital doorbell, you will also need the SkyBell digital doorbell adapter. Setup: Setup was simple: download the app, follow the step by step procedure in the app, and you're up and running. Very easy! By default, the unit is configured in 720p, so go through the configuration screen to change it to 1080p. While you're there, you can configure notifications, illumination color, motion sensing sensitivity, etc. Lots of options! Access to the SkyBell notifications and videos can be shared among several phones, making it very household friendly. Performance and Features: Performance is great(NOTE: I have an android S8)! With the phone on wifi or LTE, the video is excellent and there in no noticeable lag in notification and the video is very near real time. There is some fisheye effect, but it's not objectionable. The night vision is color and is really excellent. The motion sensing is adjustable and works very well, at least in our orientation, which is on a wall at 90 degrees to the door. Reducing the sensitivity may be a consideration if you have a doorbell facing out from the door. SkyBell provides seven days of free video cloud storage as part of the purchase which is very convenient. Videos may be individually deleted, shared, or downloaded and the entire day's videos can also be deleted at once. There isn't any documentation on the app, but swiping left on an individual video in the activities screen brings up the "share, download, delete" menu. Two things that are missing, from my perspective, are a web interface to the videos and integration with Google's Home Hub. According to SkyBell customer service, both of these features have been heavily requested and are up for future development. And, by the way, SkyBell tech support has been excellent, very responsive and helpful in my two calls. All in all, I'm very happy with my SkyBell video doorbell and recommend it.
