I like this product because it wouldn't rust out. It's made out of a hard plastic mold that won't never rust. The others are made out of metal and over time they rust out.

Item has not yet been installed as it was unavailable for delivery on the scheduled date. New installation date is March 1st. Item was delivered and I have read the instruction manual which is well written and very informative. Once it is installed I will gladly write an additional review.

I was surprised at just how light the Smart Choice 1/2HP Corded Garbage Disposal really is. But after opening the box, installing it, and then using it, I discovered the disposal is much more durable than the weight led me to believe. But I don't want to get ahead of myself, so let me go back to the beginning of my experience with this disposal. Unpacking the unit was as simple as opening the box and removing the unit. It was well packed for shipping, and arrived with no noticeable damage. As I lifted it from its packaging, that was when I noticed how light it seemed, and yet at the same time, it felt as though it was made quite well, and with quality products. There wasn't much to unpacking the unit actually. Like I said, just opening the box and lifting it out. I then read through the user's manual that came with the disposal. It is written in several different languages...English, Spanish, and French. For the most part, the manual covered most of the situations one might encounter when installing a new disposal. How to remove the old disposal, how to install if you have a dishwasher, and so forth. There were some huge deficiencies, however. For one, (and this might not be an issue to anyone else) but nowhere in the instructions or on the product box itself does it give any indication just what tools will be needed to install the unit. Further, it is only when reading through the instructions that I discovered I needed plumbing putty in order to properly install the disposal. Thankfully the hardware store is not that far away from my house, and in no time I was ready to actually begin the installation process. As far as the tools go, a screwdriver is about the only real tool needed. All the piping can be tightened well enough simply by hand. Some folks might high-brow this next statement, but a second issue I noticed is that nowhere does it say in either the manual or on the box that in order to use this unit you must have a switch already installed to turn the garbage disposal on and off. One of my first thoughts before ordering the disposal was that it must be "automatic" since it is corded. And that was one of the first questions my aunt asked when I told her about the new disposal..."How does it turn on?" Quite fortunately I actually have a switch for a disposal, even though I did not have a disposal. So, in order to install, you need a screwdriver, plumbers' putty, and an already-installed disposal switch (unless you are willing to pay someone to install one for you). Following the instructions, installing the garbage disposal was actually quite easy and straightforward. In well less than one hour I had it installed and ready to use. Since it was now dinner time, I knew it would be soon that I would have the chance to put the disposal to the test. I did turn it on, however, and it worked just fine. It isn't nearly as noisy an I expected, and I was actually impressed by just how quiet the unit really is. Now, it isn't silent, and yes, you can hear it in the next room, but it is not annoying. After dinner, I started with the "easy" stuff...vegetables, fruits, bread. It worked flawlessly. I then decided to throw a few chicken bones into the mix. I wasn't sure what to expect, but again, in no time at all, the Smart Choice disposal absolutely chewed them up and disposed of them down the drain. I have never felt comfortable putting any bones other than chicken bones down a disposal, and even though the product literature says the unit can handle other bones, I just wasn't going to take the risk and ruin a great little garbage disposal. Don't get me wrong...as easily as it handled the chicken bones, I feel quite confident that it could handle pork and beef bones with no issues, up to a point. And besides, I am not about to deny my furry dog children of one of their favorite treats! All in all, the unit is a great little disposal. I like the fact that it gives people a choice to purchase a unit that isn't industrial or designed for larger families. I also like that it is relatively quiet, and that it comes with a wonderful stopper to keep objects from falling down into the disposal. I wasn't pleased with the lack of some vital information in the product literature that I felt should have been included, and that is the sole reason for the 4-star rating rather than a 5-star. This is a unit I highly recommend. The price is absolutely affordable, and the quality is great. And again, I would highly recommend the Smart Choice 1/2HP Corded Garbage Disposal to my friends and family.

Great Courteous service. install went well . its small, works well, but I should have bought a larger one, it fills up to quickly & water goes down very slowly

I’m 48, fairly handy and have been a home owner for over 20 years. Yet somehow this is the first disposal I have ever replaced. I watched a couple of short youtube videos and looked at the installation guide. It was pretty easy to swap out with my old one. I think I was expecting it to be harder. By far the hardest part was just getting in place, in a tight spot under the sink. On a scale of 1-10, it felt like maybe a 3 or 4 on difficulty. If you fancy yourself a handy person at all, I suspect installation will be a breeze. The whole thing took just over an hour and that included cleaning out everything under the sink to start. Now onto the disposal itself, how does it handle its job? Wonderfully! It’s lighter, quieter and more powerful than my old unit. My previous disposal still worked but really had started to show signs of wear and tear. So maybe my old one was exceptionally loud, but it really is night and day difference here. Though I do think this new one is noticeably quieter than my old was ever was. It is also definitely lighter than my old one as well, but not in a “cheap” feeling way. It looks and feels well engineered and constructed. Lastly we have power, is it weird that I want to eat more chicken just to throw more bones down this thing? It ground up everything I tossed its way, but nothing more impressive than the bones it pulverized. Not much else to say, at this point it’s about durability. It looks and feels solid and has a 4 year warranty and a life time guarantee against corrosion. If you are replacing an existing disposal make sure your old one plugs in and has a switch up above. I know most, but not all are installed that way. In that instance this is going to be a fairly quick and easy install. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend.

Stylish, and functions well. Little noisy, but gets the job done.

This was purchased for a remodel of kitchen sink with no disposal

This diaposal unit is a slim model, however it comes with attachments that allow it to replace a regularsize garbage dusposal without changing the existing plumbing. i had geeksquad install it and the thing works well and takes less space. This is warrantied for 6 years compared to other brands which vary from 2-4 years.

A great value and seems like a good product for the price.

Perfect replacement for the old one we had. Though, it has a leak. I don't know how to repair it?

The Smart Choice 1/2HP Corded Garbage Disposal - White arrived just in time to replace my 10+ year old in sink garbage disposal. It is smaller and quieter than my old one and works great at grinding good, small bones, ice cubes and other kitchen detritus. The unit is only 12 7/8 inches high/long, weighs 5.2 pounds and runs at 2600 rpms. The disposal comes with a 3-bolt mounting system and is easy to install once the old disposal is out. The Smart Choice disposal has a lifetime corrosion warranty, is corded and has a and includes a stainless steel Torque Master grinding system. It also has an overall 6 year warranty. The Smart Choice 1/2HP Corded Garbage Disposal is priced right, has a very good warranty, runs quietly and is well designed. Note that this disposal does not come with a counter top air switch to turn it on/off. I was able to use the existing switch and button but wanted a new button to replace one that is showing visible wear. New ones are available but add another $25-30.00 to the total cost.

This isn't a bad product, it certainly does the job, however, there must have been a mis-step when it got installed because the water won't drain from the sink/basin unless we turn it on. We will have it looked at by someone to see what the issue is.

The store employee said this could be connected to a non plug in system. Could not be installed. Exchanged for a different model
