So I received my Smart Choice 1/2 HP Corded Garbage Disposal a couple weeks ago and have been putting it through its paces. This couldn't have come at a better time either. Just about a month ago, I started having issues with my old disposal after a couple of bad storms came through during a really stormy weekend. Resetting the breaker box and hitting the reset button on the old disposal did nothing but stir up some frustration as it seemed as though it wanted to work but just wouldn't spin. I knew I had to replace it decided to grab this Smart Choice disposal; hoping it was a "smart choice," on my part.
Inside the box comes the disposer, the installation/mounting hardware, and the instruction manual. Having never installed one of these before I knew it would be somewhat of a challenge but I was ready for it. First things first, make sure you shutdown the power to the old disposal by turning it off at the breaker box and unplugging the old one from under the sink. Next gather the necessary tools and simply follow along with the included manual. As I stated before, I've never installed a garbage disposal before so I was a bit extra cautious with my installation and making sure I was taking my time instead of doing a rush job. Overall, it took me about 45 minutes to an hour, and that's we me double checking and making sure I had everything connected and tightened.
After installation, I plugged the 3 ft cord into the outlet under the sink and flipped the switch back on a the breaker box and gave the new disposer a spin. And it worked. I wasn't sure if I was more happy at the fact that it worked or more happier at the fact that I was the one that installed it with no issues. Either way, I'm very happy with this new garbage disposal and will gladly recommend it to anyone in need of one.

The Smart Choice 1/2HP comes with a 6-year warranty and includes lifetime rust protection. My previous disposer had lasted about 10 years and was starting to make more and more noises and was showing signs of rusting. It was only a matter of time of time before it started leaking. The Smart Choice has a very good price, and it seems it is part of the budge line of Frigidaire products. However, it does offer very quiet operation and has plenty of power.
This was very easy for me to install, and I was able to use my existing mounting hardware of my old Insinkerator brand. Installation took me about 30 minutes in all and I was quite happy with that. I also like the white color as it makes my dark and dingy cabinet area down there a little bit brighter. If you are in the market for a replacement, then I highly recommend going with the Smart Choice 1/2HP corded garbage disposer, the warranty is fantastic for this price and the included rust protection for the life of the disposer is a great addition.

What an improvement over my old disposal! I live in a rented house, and my disposal was underpowered and loud. My landlord was nice enough to install this Smart Choice corded disposal as a replacement. I can't speak to the actual installation process, but he was in and out in under 45 minutes, so I'm assuming he didn't run into any issues. All of the required documentation and installation screws and mounting hardware come in the box.
First things first, this is so much quieter than my old unit. I was able to grind left overs, potato peelings, and egg shells from breakfast without waking up my whole family. It has made quick work of every thing I've thrown at it, including dried up pork chops and left over pizza. In addition to the quiet operation, it's also fast, grinding thruogh foodand scraps in about half the time of my old disposal. It's also much smaller and leaves more open space under the kitchen sink.
For the price, it's hard to beat this, and if you already have a corded disposal instead of a hardwired unit the installation process seems to be straightforward.

High build quality, ease of installation, and permanent magnet motor make this disposal a fantastic value. Add to that the 4 year limited warranty and lifetime corrosion warranty, and it becomes hard to beat.
If you are replacing an existing disposal, installation is very straight forward using the three bolt mounting flange kit. It's just a matter of removing the old disposal, installing the new to the sink drain outlet using plumber's putty, attaching the drain and plugging in the power cord. If you don't already have a disposal, you may need to add a 110 volt AC outlet under your sink as well as a switch to control the outlet above the countertop, making the installation a bit more effort. The unit also includes a dishwasher drain connection with a knock out in case your dishwasher drain is connected to the same sink bowl as the disposal.
Once installed, the unit dose exactly what one expects of a disposal, making short work of food scraps. The permanent magnet motor is very smooth and powerful, and operates with minimal vibration.

The Smart Choice ½ Horsepower corded garbage disposer is light weight and fits under the sink well. It does not take up a lot of room. I had an outlet under the sink for my dishwasher, so all I had to do was install it and plug it in. The disposal is geared for high speed and cut through food quickly.
Unpacking the material went fast. Everything was packed securely and there was no damage to the parts. I had already installed a push button switch and followed the instructions to install the unit. In just over an hour, I had it installed. The included manual is in detail on the steps required to install and wire the unit properly.
The general usage of the disposal is also covered in the book. The book stated that fibrous material takes a longer time, found it easier to just put it in disposal at all. The design of the unit cuts down on the noise level, but you can still hear it. This disposal was able to keep up with the demands of 2 people without a problem.
I would recommend this product to family and friends.

Easy Corded Replacement for Existing Disposal

My garbage disposal stopped working a couple of days ago. It was making a whining kind of sound that I have heard before and that I thought I could fix by simply pressing the reset button on the bottom of the unit or turning the nut on the bottom. Needless to say this did not work.
Enter the Smart Choice 1/2HP Corded Garbage Disposal. I wanted a replacement garbage disposal that was the same horsepower as my previous unit and that would fit into the existing sink and area without any modifications. I also wanted a disposal that could be plugged in a wall outlet since my previous disposal was hard wired. The disposal
The Smart Choice 1/2HP Corded Garbage Disposal meets all of these criteria and is much quieter than my previous disposal. It was easy to install with its 3 bolt mount and in general seems to be a much higher quality than my previous builder grade one.
I highly recommend the Smart Choice 1/2HP Corded Garbage Disposal to anyone needing to replace their existing disposal.

Decent Food/Garbage Disposal With Easy Install

This review covers installation and use of the Frigidaire Smart Choice Food disposal. It's a 1/2 horsepower unit that comes in white. Really, the color doesn't matter as if things go right, nobody will see it other than when grabbing trash bags or replacement sponges or whatever you store under your sink. The first step is installation. Almost everything that's needed comes with the food disposal. You'd need a screw driver, plumbers putty (to help seal the new flange you're putting into the sink - reusing the old almost always results in leaks), and you may need some additional tubing to die the disposal drain into your sink drain if things aren't already well lined up. If you're replacing an existing food disposal, you're likely good to go. If like me, this is a fresh install, well, you might be luckly that the additional margin built into the stack for my double sink happened to work out with the placement of the disposal. You'll also need a 120V outlet accessible and some way to independently switch it. As I didn't have an existing garbage disposal, while I had the outlet (for my dishwasher), I needed to be creative with running the disposal.
The install was pretty straightforward. If you're replaced a disposal before - there's nothing new or special here. The only weird thing was the tie-in to my dishwasher. I'm used to garbage disposals having that port open and you plug it externally if you're not using it. Here, there was a plug that you had to knock out (so you'd need a blunt rod) which causes the plastic plug to fall into the disposal. The instructions say you can just grind it and it won't adversely affect the disposal. Since I mostly planned things out before the install, I just tipped it into the trash. Being a 1/2 horsepower disposal, this fit in the space available under my sink. A 3/4 HP unit might have been nicer, but almost definitely would have been too tall to fit. To power and control the disposal, I used a wireless outlet with a Lora based remote control with a magnetic base. The advantage over most smart plugs - this doesn't need to go through a router or some other base station so the response is fast. Not as fast as a true ON/OFF switch, but the lag by comparison is barely perceptible. The magnetic base is nice because I can keep the controller mounted on the sink, away from small hands, but always accessible.
Being a 1/2 HP unit, this was not the most powerful, but it did a pretty good job of grinding up most of our food waste that ends up in the sink. It really simplifies cleanup being able to grind and rinse that down rather than needing to drain the catch and shake it out into the trash. The motor noise is average. Is this quiet - no. But it wasn't egregiously loud either. I didn't measure the sound level with a meter but qualitatively, this was as loud as a normal food disposal. It didn't vibrate the sink or countertop so doesn't induce any additional noise while running. I don't think there's any getting around the growl and sound of the metal blades spinning.
In all, I'm pretty pleased. The dishwasher connection plug was strange, but in a way it's nice that if I didn't have a dishwasher, this would have needed zero additional parts for installation. I'm pleased with the performance, sound/noise is par for the course and now that things are done, I barely notice it under the sink so I guess bravo on the color choice.

I’ve been wanting a garbage disposal for over 20 years. Well, I finally got one, and it didn’t disappoint
Pulling it out of the box, the first thing that stands out is the footprint – it’s small and slim. I was expecting a little more girth, but the Smart Choice is pleasantly compact. It does carry a little weight, though, but that’s to be expected. I still would not say it is heavy, but it isn’t what I would call light. It’s well constructed – solid and put together well.
Installation is quick and easy. It only takes 30 minutes or so, depending on your handy-man skill level. There are 3 screws holding the mounting bracket, allowing the unit to just snap into place easily. The drain pipe is standard PVC size for most modern day sinks as it is the same size as my existing one. I really like that this unit is powered by a standard plug instead of the need to wire it. This makes it easy to disconnect when necessary. The most surprising quality of the Smart Choice is how quiet it is. I was expecting this to sound like an old coffee grinder, but I was wrong. It’s quiet, yet powerful and doesn’t hog my under-sink space.
It's hard not to recommend this disposal unit. It’s compact, easy to install, and offers excellent noise reduction. Add to that a 4 year warranty and the ability to unplug it when needed, and you have a real winner.

I had a food disposer in place already for about 7 years and It was giving out loud sounds each time I dispose waste. I have never had the experience of installing these types of things myself. I still wanted to try this out this time. This product cane across at the perfect time when I needed a change. This is a heavy solid material which is quite cheap to buy. The box contains good instructions on how to install and fit it. It was fairly easy shd quick to understand the instructions. When compared to my old disposer, this one seemed to be super light. One thing I was impressed about is that the manufacturer had provided all the necessary tools to install the kit except for the putty. It took me about less an an hour to uninstall the existing one and replace it with this one. As mentioned, the disposer is super quiet, especially when compared to my older one. It also comes with a stopper to prevent big things. It is able to easily dispose off all the food waste with very less sound. I am really impressed with the performance. I can’t comment on the durability of the product at this point. Works really great. Super easy to self install. Would highly recommend this to anyone. Very good value for the pricing.

Who knew the type of garbage disposal mattered?

So I live in an apartment whose management really doesn't care. Surprise surprise. My existing garbage disposal sounded like a banshee. Finally, it crapped out. So I let my apartment management know, and they send over a repairman. The repairman says they can fix it but because of these dang supply chain issues, the part is hard to find. Literally a year went by with them just not replacing my garbage disposal because they will "fix" it. I just decided to replace it myself.
The Smart Choice garbage disposal was a lot lighter than I expected. It still felt premium so I was encouraged about its quality. I called a handyman and boom, it was replaced within 10 minutes. The handyman just kind of washed the plastic bits and putty down the sink and then ran the garbage disposal. I wasn't happy about that, but the Smart Choice garbage disposal handled it without any issues. I was shocked by how quiet it was. It also grounds like a boss without sounding like a banshee.
All in all, for those looking for a good quality garbage disposal, consider the Smart Choice.

Quiet and Powerful, Grinds like a Beast

First off, I was a little scared That this would be hard to install, but it was pretty straight forward and was pretty much plug and play once the old one was removed. The only additional other product I had to buy was some plumber's putty and wish they just included a small amount in the box. Other than that, it is strong and well built, looks awesome, but since it's under the sink you don't see it that often, and it grinds like a beast. The thing that surprised me the most is how quiet it is. I've never heard anyone's garbage disposal sound so smooth, quiet, and effortless when grinding even a bunch of stuff. Had I known it was this nice, I would have switched sooner. It is definitely a "smart choice" to get and install this product as soon as possible if your current grinder is loud, obnoxious, or smelly. I wouldn't take any stars away and gave it the full 5 star rating because it is as good if not better than advertised. If you are in the market for a disposal unit, pick this one up right away!

Out of the box you have everything you need to install the unit, except plumbers putty, however if you are replacing an existing unit chances are it will fit in the flange already installed in your sink, that was a plus for me.
The disposer comes with a 3-prong whip, so no need to buy one or hardwire from your existing electrical, big time saver. The chord is a bit short, so plan ahead with the location of your existing outlet.
I had the unit unboxed and installed in about 30 minutes, 10 of those was reorganizing my mess under the sink. I threw everything from small chicken bones to cabbage at this and as long as you feed it at a slow pace and don't jam it full, this unit performed flawlessly.
Thanks to the superb build and insulation the unit is very quiet. The unit itself is also very compact so it fit in place of the larger old disposer I had and left me with a little more room to spare.
I would recommend this as a great replacement, or first time install option for a disposer.

Easy install. I used this product to replace a garbage disposal that failed after 20 years of use. The disassembly and removal of the old garbage disposal took about 20-30 minutes and the prep for the new one (cleaning the sink and surfaces) added another 10-15 minutes. Installation of the product once the old one and the area was prepped only took about 15 minutes. All in, I spent less than an hour to uninstall and get this new one in. Instructions were clear. The power cable was sufficiently long for my application (less than 2 feet). The noise level is comparable to the old one. The vibration of this one is significantly less than my old one and adds a premium feel to this disposal. The splash guard removes quite easily (as advertised) and makes cleaning and removal of stubborn components super easy and much safer. This disposal is significantly smaller than my older model and is welcome as my cabinet can now accommodate more cleaning material and is easier to access the back of the cabinet.
