It’s too early to gauge results, but so far so good. It doesn’t hurt to use and only some warmth is felt. I have high hopes so hopefully it will deliver.

So this is not your average item you pick up from Best Buy. Do your research and understand what this is, and what the process is going to be like. So starting with the good: This is a very very easy product to work with, and you will see results if you are patient. As the instruction tell you right out of the gate, you won't see significant results until after 4 weeks, possibly as many of 6. And that is true with my experience. You only use the system 1 time a week, not daily. Depending on the area you are using this on, it may only take you 1-2 minutes to complete a cycle. There is prep work though, the areas this is used on must be shaved first, but you will find as the weeks go on... less and less growth is there, and less and less to shave... that is the point of the system. When you first use it, you are going to be startled a bit. It is a hot blast. It will possibly "sting" but it only last a few seconds, and really is just startling the first time... after that usage, you will know what is coming and mentally be prepared. The other down side, is that depending on your bathroom configuration, it may be difficult to plug in. It is a short power cord, but a long cord to the device. If you don't have a counter near by your outlet, you may have to bring a chair. BE SAFE when plugging it in... make sure it is a GFCI outlet for safety reasons, near water. I do wish the power unit, had some rubber feet (which I can add), to keep it from sliding off my counter top. Usage is very easy. Press against the skin, you will see the light indicator change.. push button... repeat. doesn't get much easier. Storage.. .right now, I have still kept the box in the bathroom, to put this away in after each usage. Would like to see a soft bag or something added, so I can use that... instead of the box, since this really just needs to be brought out once a week.. The manual... it is a lot of pages of warnings, and when you read that... you may get concerned. but if you again understand what this device is, you will see why there are so many warnings. The biggest problem with the manual, the print is VERY tiny and faded. I found myself, taking pictures with my phone, so I could zoom in on the pages. I think it would be beneficial to have an online manual version, and or YouTube videos showing the usage. Last downside... given that you will not see any noticeable impact for 4-5 weeks, that will be beyond the standard Best Buy return policy. but you see some noticeable changes in a few weeks, just not complete changes. I know that sounds like a lot of downsides, but they are all pretty minor, hence the 4 stars. If this is the result you are looking for, then this particular system will be a very good option.

      Hello,
SmoothSkin devices have been developed and tested with safety at the forefront and are not harmful to eyes, they are safe to use without the need for eye protection. However, some users do find the flash bright and prefer to wear sunglasses during treatments, but this is not essential. All SmoothSkin products have a unique, built-in safety feature and will only flash when pressed firmly against your skin, never into the air.
We hope this is helpful. If you would like more information please contact us at [email protected]. Thank you SmoothSkin

So, this might be a different kind of review for the Smooth Skin Bare+ IPL Hair Removal System. I’m a male and because of my Egyptian ethnicity, I have hairy knuckles along with the outer edges of my hands. I don’t know if my hair growth on my hands was ever noted by anyone but I noticed them. I would especially notice and FEEL the hair follicles when they would brush against random fabrics. The course hair irritated me. I started shaving my knuckles and the edges of my hands but my issue was I wasn’t always on top of this regime of mine. I’ve heard of laser hair removal but I had never heard of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) as a form of treatment for hair removal. I decided to throw caution to the wind and try the Smooth Skin Bare. Follow the Instructions: As you can imagine, I was new to this sort of personal care. I followed the instructions to the letter and then used the device. I am not one to cut corners for the sake of ‘getting it over with’. I can only describe the experience of the treatment as an initial ‘sharp hotness’ that kind of felt intense for someone like myself who never experienced IPL. It’s just a unique experience that you get used to. There’s nothing to the treatment(s), you press the Smooth Skin device against the area and activate the button. The treatments only take ten minutes out of your day. The Results: I haven’t needed to shave/trim my knuckles or the sides of my hands in over two weeks since the last treatment I gave myself. Believe me, that’s pretty awesome! I can imagine this will do wonders for those gentlemen who might have unruly shoulder hair or what have you. Is the Smooth Skin Bare an alternative for male grooming in the nether regions? That’s not up to me to weigh in on since I haven't tried it for that purpose. Shave No More: I am seriously impressed at how smooth my knuckles and the sides of my hands are after not treating them for two weeks. If you're on the fence about this device then I am telling you to treat yourself and enjoy the free time you'll have later on because of Smooth Skin Bare.

I wanted to give this a full 6 weeks of use before writing a review so I could say with certainty whether it worked or not. Now, I am not the absolute ideal candidate for this device; as an older person i have some hair that is lighter, even graying, some darker. After 6 weeks of use, I can tell you that in the areas where it said it would work best (dark hair, light skin), it worked tremendously well. It's easy and comfortable to use. A bit of a sting in more sensitive areas, but nothing I would call "painful". It doesn't advertise a miracle, this is not a binary device where you're going to be completely and permanently hair free after a couple uses. But it did indeed deliver substantially reduced and finer hair growth that was noticeable already after a month. I got this at the end of February and because of the warnings against being out in the sun after use, I would suggest buying this in the winter and using all winter long. The list of warnings (from page 7 to page 20 in the manual) is substantial and a bit unsettling, but understandable. I will continue to use a few more weeks and then again through the winter. I am glad I got this, and think that anyone with the ideal combination of dark hair/light skin is going to have even better results.

My wife has pale skin and medium brown hair. She tested it on underarms, bikini line, upper thighs, and a small spot near her belly button. The Instruction Booklet: The booklet for this Smooth Skin - Bare+ does a decent job of telling you how to operate this safely. The instructions for this device are pretty easy to follow. Basically, shave and then either hold the button down for Automatic Flashing (Pulses every 0.6 seconds) or press and release for one flash. There is a series of do’s and don’ts but the basic operation is pretty straightforward. First Use: She followed the instructions and shaved prior to testing the device on a small test patch. When she went to do my initial test patch, she was surprised by a couple of things. 1. When you plug Smooth Skin - Bare+ in, it has a glowing blue light and a fan that instantly kick in. There IS a line that tells you that in the booklet, but she hadn’t really remembered it and was a bit surprised when it immediately started glowing and humming loudly! Be ready for that. 2. She was a little leery of actually using the device, because I didn’t know what to expect about discomfort level. The booklet said “warmth and tingling.” She didn’t really feel any tingling during the flashing, but “warmth” was a bit misleading. The little clear square gets HOT during the flash. Not, like, blister your skin hot, but it is definitely more than just “gentle warmth.” The Hot fades almost instantaneously though. Still, it was a bit surprising on that first flash. Also, some spots (even within the same shave zone) felt the heat more acutely than others. 3. The booklet briefly mentions the “skin tone” sensor will glow red and not allow the flash to happen if your skin tone was not appropriate for the device. But, it wasn’t immediately clear to me that the sensor ALSO glows red (and thus will not flash) if your device isn’t flush against your skin properly. This makes odd shaped areas like bikini line and armpits a little tricky. You have to use stamp mode for these areas because you have to position the device, (And often REPOSITION it) until the button glows white. Then, you need to look away & close your eyes, THEN you can flash. If you try to flash when the button is red, you get nothing. 4. Don’t forget the look away and close your eyes part. The booklet warns you repeatedly to look away from the flash. The light is BRIGHT. Even when you have your eyes closed, you can see the flash through your lids. The Aftermath: 1. Immediately after she was done, she didn’t really notice much in the way of odd sensation. Maybe a little extra sensitive to clothing? 2. Around 3-6 hours afterwards she did notice a mild tingling sensation. If you’ve ever given yourself a mild sunburn… It was sort of like that. It didn’t hurt, but the skin was more sensitive to clothing rubbing on it than usual. Not painfully so. It was easy to ignore the sensation. 3. The next day, she noticed my more sensitive spots (Bikini line and tummy) were itchy and had red almost hives like bumps. The bumps faded within a few hours of me noticing them. And, it really was tough to say if that was a result of the device or just a razor burn type reaction to the shaving. (It’s a sensitive spot that I don’t like to shave because it’s prone to razor burn). End result is that itchy hives were no more bothersome than the razor burn she typically gets if she had to shave the area. Recurring Issues During Use: 1. The main issue she had with using the device was positioning the “Stamp” properly. The booklet wants you to do it in nice neat rows with no overlap or gaps. That is really hard to judge. The window is square, but the window is subset into an oval shaped applicator. That made it really hard to judge where the window was on the last stamp. She basically just guessed. she is pretty sure she had both overlaps and missed spots. 2. She did not personally care for the continuous function. It was impossible to use it for tricky curvy bits like bikini line or armpits. It flashes at its own set rate, so if you aren’t careful its really easy to go too fast and have spots missed or too slow and double dose yourself. Moreover, there is no biofeedback. So, the device won’t TELL you that you are going too fast or too slow. Which means there really isn’t a good way to know if you are doing it right or to correct yourself if you aren’t. Lastly, when doing large areas like legs…. It is really hard to tell where your last “line” of flashing stopped. 3. Odd Shaped areas (Like underarms and bikini line) are sometimes difficult to get the skin sensor flush to your skin, and it won’t flash unless it is flush. 4. There can be a bit of a burning hair smell. (Even though she shaved, she thinks maybe it still fried some little bits or missed stragglers?) 5. Because you shave first, it is hard to see WHERE you need to flash! This is especially true if you are working on “patches” like bikini lines or armpits. 6. Also, you are doing this to yourself, so there is some contorting and it is rather awkward! She found that doing it in front of a large mirror helped. Results After a couple weeks of use, she did notice that my hair didn’t seem to be growing back as fast. She didn’t notice much difference in the amount when it did grow back, but it seemed slower. The bits that came back also seemed softer and less bristly. The first couple weeks she did notice that my skin was itchy (a bit like razor burn feeling) for a day or two after the treatment. However, that stopped happening as much after week 3 or 4. Around the 4 week mark, she started noticing that the hair was noticeably less. Most areas seemed to be about 50% less than normal hair growth. (Arm pits were probably closer to 30% less.) It began to be very clear which areas she tended to miss with the flashing device as those areas were obviously MUCH denser hair growth! By 6 weeks most of the hair on my bikini line and tummy was gone. The armpits were down to maybe 50% hair growth. By this point, there was rarely any itchiness or noticeable side effects to the flashing and I noticed I had much less issue with razor burn in my sensitive areas.   Overall: Overall, she thought the Smooth Skin - Bare+ did a very good job at eliminating hair. It remains to be seen how long the hair stays eliminated for. Even if the hair does return, she would still keep and use this device. Whether it permanently removes the hair or not, she's found that using it in these areas has prevented almost all razor burn that she used to regularly get in those sensitive spots! The major downside of the Smooth Skin - Bare+ is the awkwardness of using it. Being able to position it on yourself in the right spots is just difficult for many of the body parts. The second major downside is getting the hang of properly positioning the “stamps” or getting the “right” speed for the continuous use function. She struggled with that the entire time she used the device.

As a dude, I am happy with using a nice shaver to remove my body hair—until I discovered this device. Now I use my shavers less often, have less hair on other parts, and have more time for other things like ----NOT shaving. I know this device has some better effectivity on certain skin tones. So for the sake of reference, I have southeast Asian skin—fair brown, and middle-aged (aka quite hairy). Because it was my first time experiencing this kind of a product, I read the instructions and the safety precautions. The good thing is, the learning curve is not steep at all. In fact, I was surprised, I can figure out use by myself (but please read the safety warnings). It’s almost plug-and-use. I put it on my skin and a light indicator tells me I am ready to press. I pressed it on the left part of my freshly-shaved tummy, moved my way up and down—ten minutes as suggested (though I do it for less than that time), and I am done with that part. I just did this once for a couple of weeks, just to have a comparison, just the left part of my tummy. In three weeks, I noticed a difference. I hardly had to shave my left part of the tummy on the third week and on the sixth week, I didn’t have to shave it at all. I mean, there was some hair, but there’s hardly anything and the area is smooth. Hair was simply not as visible. Now comes the real problem, my lady saw how good the device is, now she is using it more than me and wanted it for her own. Per her, she didn’t have to go to the clinic anymore to do her unwanted hair. She can have her sessions at her convenience. So, it’s a personal device but it’s easy to clean—easy wipe and use. Well, I don’t have a choice but to share it with her, or else I will have to get another for myself. For you though, we’re not in the same household so better get yours.

    Promising Results So Far!

I have been using this IPL for about 6 weeks. I have never used an IPL, but I have had laser done before on my legs. I decided to try this out on my armpits first which I have never treated before. It’s simple to use and feels similar to how a laser felt on my legs. I would describe the sensation as a warmth. However, I would not describe it as painful. So far, I have noticed reduced hair growth. I see there is a reduced density in the hair growing back. Additionally, the hair that does grow back seems to be growing slower than it did before using the IPL. Very promising results so far! This machine is super easy to use. I do it to myself in front of a mirror. I also pass over each area 3 times as recommended in the instructions since this area has more stubborn hair. It takes me about 2 minutes to do both of my armpits with 3 passes. I am very pleased with the progress so far, and I will continue to use this product for the recommended 12 weeks and for touch ups as needed. I also plan on using this IPL to touch up my laser treated legs.
