My first video game console back in 1991, the Sega Genesis. Bundled with one of the best video games of all time, Sonic the Hedgehog. I had no idea who or what Sega or Sonic was at the time, but the second I started playing Sonic, I quickly realised that this game was far superior compared to Mario. The 16-bit graphics, the colorful environments, and of course the fast paced gameplay. Sonic to me, will and always be one of the greatest video games of all time. I pre-ordered my Sonic Mania Collector's edition, I didn't know what to expect, I didn't even follow much of the gameplay shown at E3 and what not, but when I started playing this game, I had an epiphany. The moment I started playing the first zone, from the music to the art, and the gameplay. This game is what the fans should have been given since the last great release, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. If you like Sonic in any way shape or form, even if you don't, if you like platform games or anything of that nature, you will love this game. I've seen some YouTubers play this game and mention it is somewhat difficult. For newcomers I will agree with that, but I've been playing Sonic since the 90's and Sonic Mania isn't too harsh with the difficulty, it's basically as hard as Sonic 2 or 3 was. I've beaten every Sonic game, every last one, so for me Sonic Mania is enjoyable. Not too hard, not too easy, just right. Overall, for $19.99 for the base game, Sonic Mania is a steal. I've put in 6 hrs on release date, and didn't complete the main game yet. The replay value is extremely high there are the chaos emeralds and also coins you need to collect from bonus levels for extras and unlockable modes. The graphics are perfect and just the way I remember it on my Genesis, you get full HD at 60fps with some 3D effects thrown in some backrounds, and you'll notice it immediately. The music in Sonic Mania brings you back to the 90s instantly and is reworked from older levels with a twist for the newer levels in Sonic Mania. The zones (levels) are more in depth, take longer to complete and there is a lot of boss battles, all cleverly put together. Each level contains multiple routes and secret rings that enable you to play bonus levels just like in Sonic 3. There are also the bonus levels you get from the checkpoints which bring back the blue/red sphere 3d mazes, only this time they're more random and of course even more difficult. The other bonus level which enables you chaos emeralds upon completion is more of a race style, collect blue orbs to get to mach 3 speeds and capture the emerald. The graphics and even the controls are straight from Sonic R. Yup I told you I beat and have every Sonic game made :-). So if I were to rate Sonic Mania, I'd give it a 9/10, the team did a great job on this project and the game is fantastic. I did not expect this game to be as good as it is. Yet somewhere deep down I feel, only us true Sonic fans will enjoy this game to the fullest extent, and most newcomers might not even bother, thanks to the Madden's, call of duty's and GTA games. It's sad, I feel this game deserves millions of sales. Either way don't think, buy it now, buy it for every console you own.

What a blast to the past nostalgia experience. The collectible genesis display with sonic is not only large but brought a smile to my face. It comes with a classic reproduction of a sonic game, a Ring and collectors card. And the game itself an AMAZING must by. Only downfall for is the game is not a physical copy but rather a digital code to download from the eshop. Loved it!

Great game! Great Collectors edition! Everything about this edition has a great vintage-modern feel and the statue is amazing!

Overall this collection is good for long time Sonic fans as the game returns to its retro roots. The collector items are a nice touch but I feel the quality is lacking for the price, the Best Buy Gamers Club discount was enough to help tip me over to buy the set. The included sonic statue with "Sega" sound bite feels a bit cheap plastic and toggling the sound switch feels like it could break if not careful or with repeated use. The replica cartridge also feels a bit cheap. Finally, the con was the digital download code, which for physical collectors may be something to consider, especially since this listed as a collectors item. Hard to justify the original asking price, but as a limited item it may be hard to find later.

I grew up in a Nintendo family during the 90's so I mostly stuck to playing Sonic at friend's houses. I eventually played the original trilogy and finally realizing how mishandled the Sonic franchise was quite sad. I have no real nostalgia for the series so I feel like I can give a fair review. After so many years of numerous mediocre, bad, and very few good games, it's amazing to see Sonic return to the amazing formula that made him Mario's rival 25 years ago. Sega relied on some of the most dedicated Sonic fan developers to make this game, and it's amazing how it ends up matching up and even surpassing the quality of the original games. Level design compliments Sonic's speed and physics engine. There are very few things in video games more satisfying than building up speed in a 2D Sonic game, especially like rolling down a slope like in Chemical Plant Zone. Music, graphics, and level design are top notch. This Special Edition is worth the money. Statue is actually a pretty decent size and doesn't feel cheap.The metal card is a nice item and the replica Genesis cartridge comes with a Ring from the game. It's pretty affordable considering most special editions can start at $80.

The game itself is a great homage to classic Sonic games; it blends the old 16-bit look with the newer 16-bit look of modern Steam and indie games. But while the game only costs $19.99 digitally, the upgrade is worth it for the Genesis cart and Sonic figure. It's plastic but doesn't feel cheap and weightless. It's well painted and worth showing off next to your vintage games collection.

Sonic has been in a ditch for a while now but he has found his way back to the high road. Sega and the multiple developers have created a masterpiece with this game. It is not just nostalgia that pushes this game to greatness; it is a new interpretation of the series and an art form we should have seen Sega produce for the 32X or Saturn back in the day. This release has many levels to challenge the player to the very end, and like Sonic 1,2,3 and Sonic and Knuckles there are plenty of secrets and bonuses for the player to discover. The overall packaging of the game is not the best but it is nice and would be even better should Sega have included a physical copy of the game. That is the only downside of this package, but the download is only 186 MB. Great Production Value!!!

This collectors edition is a great value for the price. The included statue is well-made, and aesthetically pleasing. In addition, the collectors box, game cartridge and golden ring, and included metal card are sturdy and well-crafted. Sonic Mania as a game captures what made past 2D Sonic games great, and offers an enjoyable experience.

First off, this box is huge! Like a supersized collector's edition. The Sonic statue is larger than you think and it boasts an impressive display. Many asks about the game and this edition does come with it - as a code that you redeem on the eShop.

I bought this for my brother, and everything included looked very nice! The game itself is stellar, aside from the fact that there is a bit of lag between pressing the home button and actually going to the home screen.

Sonic Mania is great! It takes the old formula of Sonic, retaining much of the original games nostalgia, but adding new twists to keep it fresh and new. If you were a fan of the original, you'll love this game!

The game, Sonic Mania, is a very good Sonic game in its own right. It blends elements of the original 3 Sonic games, Sonic CD, and Sonic and Knuckles. The sound track is very upbeat, the graphics are colorful and vibrant, and the level design is top notch. Take it from a veteran of the series, this is a Sonic game worth buying.

This is the game that Sonic fans have been waiting for. It combines the classic aspects of what made the trilogy so great and puts a modern spin on it (no pun intended). From level design, to game play to the soundtrack you can tell this game was made with passion. The only con I will say is that I would have preferred a physical release rather than the option of digital only.

Whether you pick up the collector's edition or not, Sonic Mania is a a must own for anyone whose a fan of the Sonic series. It is literally the best Sonic game that's come out in far too long. I encourage anyone reading this, if you haven't purchased a copy, do so! You will not regret it. As for the collector's edition itself, I really wish it had come with a physical copy of the game. (Actually, I just wish they'd release it on a physical cartridge in general.) Other than that, the statue is very nice and far larger than expected. Seriously, the box this thing comes in is massive. The cartridge with gold ring inside, is really cool! The collector's card...is...interesting, I guess. It's a bit of an odd inclusion, honestly. It's like a metal phone card. Anyway, I'll just reiterate that even if you haven't or can't get the collector's edition, you still need to go buy Sonic Mania. Like...now. Seriously, stop reading and go buy and play it! GO!

The collectors edition is pretty cool. It comes with what you see in the picture. The sonic statue on the Genesis console replica is 12 inches tall so it doesn't fit in a standard book shelf but it does the sega theme jingle with the off and on switch. It needs 2 AA batteries in order to do the sound. The game cartridge that has the ring in it is pretty cool, the outer case is made of ABS and soft shiny plastic. The gold ring is metal and gold plated and feels very solid and High Quality, the collectors alluminum card is very sharp from the edges so you need to be carefull when handling it.the Only thing I would have liked to have is a physical copy of the game for my Switch. I'm not a big fan of digital downloads but I did play it safe and got a 256GB micro SD card for my Switch so that should be plenty of memory to store any games I would like to buy that are only available in digital formats for years to come But my preference will always be physical game copies.

Super fun, fast-pace game just as original, but with much-improved graphics! Talking figure is large, high-quality, and just cool!

This collector's set will bring back lots of memories with the goodies Inside the Box not only is the Box cool with a lot of artwork but it comes with a metal collector's card A reproduction Sonic Mania cartridge with a Gold ring inside but also comes with a very cool and large Sonic statue on top of the Sega Genesis and when the power button is pushed it plays the iconic Sega theme sound and also a download copy of the game Sonic Mania

I enjoyed Sonic 4, but that game ended up leaving me disappointed. This game though, is a true return to the Sonic games of old. Not only does it do a great job giving us gameplay we all remember from the early 90's, but it even gives us new mechanics and levels that feel modern and fresh. If you love Sonic, get this game. Also the collector's edition is top notch!
