Terrible shipping practices

My review is for Best Buy, and them misrepresenting the condition of the item, and very carelessly shipping it. The Amp was supposed to be in “Excellent” condition, which includes all original packaging. Not only did I’d not come in the original packaging, but was also just placed into a misfitting box, with no packing materials whatsoever, and shipped through UPS. Tried calling customer service with no result.

Brings new life to my vintage stereo system

The new Sonos Amp can do the following:
1. It can replace a stereo receiver to bring new life to any vintage stereo system you have lying around by giving it the ability to play streaming music. Most vintage stereo systems have wired speakers that are much better than computer speakers or smart speakers like the Echo Dot or Google Home Mini. The Sonos Amp comes with stereo RCA audio Line-In inputs so you can use legacy components such as a turntable, CD player, or cassette player.
2. It can also be used as a small footprint 5.1 home theater receiver by using two wired speakers as the right and left fronts, adding a standard RCA wired powered subwoofer, and using two Sonos Play:1 speakers as the wireless surrounds.
For this review, I’m only testing it for the first use case. I’m currently using the Sonos Amp to bring new life to my beloved vintage stereo system. While a true audiophile might scoff at the components, I have fond memories of this system (consisting of a Sherwood S-2750CP receiver, Technics SL-DB10 turntable, Magnavox CDB465 CD player, Sanyo Ultrx RD C21 stereo cassette deck, and JBL 2500 Bookshelf Speakers) which was put together during my youth. I remember spending hours researching all the components as I put together the system over a period of time with my limited budget.
Setup was really easy. Insert the banana plug adapters into the Sonos Amp. Insert the audio cables from my JBL speakers into the banana plugs and plug in my Magnavox CD player into the stereo RCA Line-In ports. Plug in the Sonos Amp to the AC outlet. Then download the Sonos App into my Android phone and follow the directions to connect the Sonos Amp into your network.
I also added the Sonos skill to Alexa so I could use my Echo Dot to control the Sonos Amp.
With the convenience of listening to digital music on my computer speakers and Echo Dots, I haven’t really listened to my JBL bookshelf speakers in a long time.
I have spent the past 4 days listening to my music collection from both Amazon Music and my CD collection and it feels like seeing an old friend again for the very first time. The sound is very clean and smooth. Vocals and instruments are crisp and clear. Much better than listening to music using my Echo Dots or Google Home Mini. I didn’t test it at super loud volumes because I don’t want to disturb my neighbors but it definitely can get loud enough for me with absolutely no distortion.
It’s been such a joyful experience using my vintage bookshelf speakers to listen to music again. Rock, Pop, New Wave, Folk Rock, Classical and Movie Soundtracks all sound great!
I have been so impressed with the sound quality as a stereo amplifier, I’m really tempted to see how the Sonos Amp would perform as a 5.1 home theater receiver. In the future, I might connect it to my HDTV (since the Sonos Amp includes an HDMI port that supports ARC) and try it out. I would think using separate right and left front bookshelf speakers would create a wider sound field than my current soundbar setup.

The Sonos Amp 2.1 isn’t just another amplifier — it’s a game-changer in the world of wireless audio. Designed for audiophiles, home theater lovers, and smart home enthusiasts alike, it strikes a near-perfect balance between power, versatility, and seamless wireless integration.
Powerful, Refined Performance
At its heart, the Sonos Amp delivers 125 watts per channel of clean, dynamic Class-D amplification — plenty of muscle to drive most passive speakers with authority and clarity, whether indoors, outdoors, or in dedicated listening spaces.
This 2.1-channel configuration, complete with a dedicated subwoofer output and adjustable crossover, ensures that both music and movie soundtracks feel rich, balanced, and immersive — with deep, controlled lows and crisp mids.
Seamless Wireless Streaming & Ecosystem Integration
Where the Amp truly shines is its wireless integration:
• Wi-Fi streaming from hundreds of services without extra hardware.
• Apple AirPlay 2 for effortless iPhone/iPad playback.
• Sonos app control for grouping rooms, adjusting EQ, and discovering new music.
This isn’t just an amplifier — it’s a central node in a scalable Sonos ecosystem. Add Sonos speakers throughout your home and enjoy perfectly synchronized audio across multiple zones without complex wiring or setup.
Best-in-Class TV & Home Theater Integration
Connect the Amp to your TV via HDMI ARC and instantly transform your viewing experience. The Amp intelligently switches audio with your TV and lets you control volume with your TV remote — a huge convenience that elevates its value as a living-room centerpiece.
Plus, combining the Amp with Sonos speakers for surround effects feels natural and flexible. Whether you want a simple stereo music setup or a more immersive 2.1 home theater rig, the Amp adapts beautifully.
Design That Works Everywhere
Sonos has crafted an amplifier that’s both elegant and practical:
• Compact enough for custom racks or AV cabinets.
• Quiet, passive cooling for silent operation.
• Banana-plug speaker connectors and thoughtful port layout simplify installation.
Whether you’re hiding it behind a credenza or showcasing it in a media rack, the Amp fits in without fuss.
Why the Sonos Amp 2.1 Stands Above the Rest
There are plenty of amplifiers on the market, but few combine power, ease-of-use, and wireless integration so elegantly. The Amp distinguishes itself by:
• Eliminating the need for separate streaming gear — everything is built in.
• Delivering multiroom performance that’s smooth, reliable, and expansive.
• Supporting smart home platforms and future updates — a testament to thoughtful long-term design.
For listeners who want premium audio without the complexity of traditional hi-fi components, the Sonos Amp 2.1 is simply unmatched. It’s not just a powerful wireless amp — it’s one of the most compelling audio products Sonos has ever made, and arguably the best choice on the market for anyone building a wireless, whole-home system.

I have large covered patio, and wanted to install some speakers under it so that we could listen to music while swimming in our pool. The wife and I stream music through services such as Spotify and Tidal, and so we wanted something that could not only power the speakers, but let us use those streaming services.
I picked up 4X Klipsch 650AW speakers, as the reviews stated that they put out really good, clear sound. They are 8ohm speakers, which is what this AMP recommends when using more than 2 speakers.
Installation was easy. Though there are only two speaker hookup jacks, to utilize four speakers you simply have to wire them both into the same jack. There is also a mount you can purchase which I used to mount to the wall.
After it was all wired, it was easy to tie the amp to my Sonos Connect, which is inside and hooked up to my Intregra DRX 3.2 receiver .
This baby is wonderful. Sound is crisp and clear, and I can "sync" it with my home theater system inside as well. My home theater room is near the back door, so ideally I could have the same music played inside and outside during parties.
It's a great product. Yes it is a bit expensive, but worth every penny in my opinion!

If you’ve already done your research then let me confirm that it’s all true, the good and the bad. Yes it is expensive, yes you gotta EQ out of the box (too flat at first) but all the pros outweigh those two cons. I connected these two my B&W CM2 bookshelves and WOW. Another con is getting hooked on these products!
Also you can add a turntable but you’ll need to buy a phono preamp.

This Sonos is a powerful and versatile audio solution, perfect for enhancing home audio setups. With 250 watts of power, it can drive traditional wired speakers with clarity and depth, making it ideal for both music and home theater applications. It seamlessly integrates with the Sonos ecosystem, allowing for easy control via the Sonos app, and supports AirPlay 2 for streaming from Apple devices. The sleek design fits discreetly into any setup, while HDMI ARC connectivity allows for simple integration with TVs. Overall, the Sonos Amp is a fantastic choice for those looking to expand their home audio system with power, flexibility, and high-quality sound.

Great Upgrade

I used the Sonos upgrade offer through Best Buy and received 33% off the new amp. You can really hear the extra power over the older amp.... Able to drive bigger speakers. And in conjunction with the new S2 controller software the sound quality is much improved. It is pretty easy to hide in a cabinet, but looks very nice on top of cabinet also. Especially like the removeable connection system. Makes it very easy to hookup speaks. Although a little more expense, very glad I upgraded.

First of all, this is a very expensive amplifier. There are plenty of other amps that are compact, clean-sounding, and cheaper. However, the Sonos network and features combined with this well-designed amp make for an excellent product. Install was simple, ease of use is great, and it sounds very clean through my in-ceiling speakers, with plenty of power to spare.

Easy to connect and sounds great! For the price, I would have like to see more adjustability of sound. However, it is meant to be a simplistic option for creating a hi-quality sound system that is expandable, reliable, and easy to use. These amps are absolutely that. They are good enough for me to purchase 3 of them!

This amp was exactly what I needed to tie my old wired ceiling speakers into my new state of the art Sonos tv bar. The connectivity was simple and fast. Couldn’t have been any easier to install. And the sound quality is second to none. This amp is just what you need to complete and elevate your surround sound system. My only regret is wishing I’d found this solution sooner! Worth every penny!

Once I used the Arc line to the TV, it was by far the most simple setup I have ever had! Volume is controlled via TV or Apple TV remote (which I also have connected to TV). So I can finally use one remote for everything! No more soundbar volume remote along with appletv or tv remote. And quality is fantastic! Small size, mounted behind the TV using a mount from Amazon as well so it’s all hidden.

I did not realize how much I needed this amp. Replaced an older AV receiver I was using to extend a zone in my backyard. The Sonos amp is a much better option. I can hear a sound quality difference and love being able to connect to the other speakers throughout my house. The setup was easy with the Sonos amp. The small footprint is a bonus for the location I have it in.
