Customers are positive about the Era 300 Smart Speaker's sound quality, ease of use, and strong bass. Many appreciate its Dolby Atmos capability and overall design. However, some find the price a bit high, and a few have noted that the app could use improvement.

I have it in the bathroom and I love it. The 360 sound keeps that echo effect in most bathrooms away.

This speaker sounds great. It was super easy to setup and add to my Sonos app. Took literally just a minute or 2 to add. I have other Sonos speakers so already had the app downloaded, but adding it is a breeze.
What’s great is after you name the room you have it in and setting the bass and treble to your liking in the app - you are ready to rock, literally. Bluetooth connectivity was a snap and the Sonos app easily lets you push your music all over the house to this and other Sonos speakers flawlessly and in sync.
I tried all kinds of music and whether it’s bass heavy rap, rock, alt, dance, acoustic, jazz, classical, etc. they all sounded great and it’s a significant sound improvement over the Sonos One.
It’s a bit bigger (maybe twice the width) of the Sonos One but has a much more spatial and a “full” sound to it.
One note on placement - I tried it on a kitchen island and the bass was a little underwhelming. Then I moved it to near a wall to let the rear of the speaker have something to bounce / reflect off of and that's the bass magic. So recommend setting or mounting near a wall or corner for it to really reflect off of.
So far 2 cons for me:
1) There is no option for Google assistant. We’re a Google house and this only supports Alexa and its own Sonos voice control. That said – I can tell my Google Homes and Sonos One’s via their Google assistant to play music to this speaker.
2) The other is I’ll have to upgrade my Sonos home theater Playbar with the new Sonos Arc to take advantage of the 7.1 Dolby Atmos that this speaker can pump out.
If you are just setting up your home theater and going with the Arc, you’ll be happy with these as your Atmos surround.
If you just want this as a great sounding spatial speaker in a room it really fills it up on its own.

I like the product, I saved up for over a year and when I got the speaker it came damaged. Here’s a word of the wise when getting an open box item, there is no exchange option if no stores near you have model and condition, there aren’t any options but refund. Since I got a good deal from open box, I would now have to pay an extra $150 for a new one. I had to be passed along multiple support agents, mislead my multiple over the phone employees to finally be told the truth after spending hours on the phone. Its up to the stores descretion where a manager would not even listen to me but make another employee give me the news. No wiggle room, no empathy but the in store employee was very kind and did not try to mislead me. Be wary of open box.

I have an Amazon Echo Studio that sounds great. I just wanted a little more for a bigger space, but not as big as a play five but bigger than a Echo Studio. So for an extra $250 on top of the $200 for the Echo StudioSonos I though the Era 300 was it. Sonos did not deliver. If you like bass. The echo studio sounds way better than the Era 300. The Era 300 has absolutely no real bass output.

Excellent speaker. That really sums it up.
I am not new to the Sonos ecosystem. I found myself lucky enough to get a Sonos powered Sonance outdoor/maritime speakers set a couple years ago. So when the opportunity came up for this, I knew I would be getting a high quality unit with superior sound. And indeed I did.
First off, Sonos is a brand leader in the upper-end consumer accesible speakers. They do one thing (provide excellent sound quality) and they do it very well. In addition to providing great sound, they always deliver a very handsome package that fits into most environments and decor.
The new Sonos Era 300 is quite possibly one of the best sound-engineering designs available to mass consumers. They have included 2 subwoofers (left and right), 2 tweeters on either side and a center channel tweeter. They also included a unique upper firing tweeter that provides Dolby Atmos for directional sound. Pretty imressive design.
One unique design feature that Sonos includes in almost every speaker they make is in the interoperability among the Sonos family. To put it another way, you could take two of these speaker, combine it with one of their several soundbars and then put a couple Sonos One speakers into one ecosystem to get a truly immersive Dolby Atmos television experince. Or use the same speakers as a room filling music system. IN this case, the Era 300 also makes for an excellent stand alone speaker.
The lows are rich, accurate and smooth. The mids are crisp, clean and clear. The highs are perfectly delivered and clean in every way. In all, an excellent room-filling speaker in a relatively small foot-print.
The Sonos app is simple, solid and inclusive. Most all popular music services are supported and the integration is a natural transition into the Sonos app. You can also custom ize the EQ on the app if you have a preference for sound set up.
Controls are great on the device too. A "sliding" touch on top of the speaker for volume. Play/pause and FWD/BKW are also via touch on top. You can also turn off the microphone completely via a switch on the back.
End of the day, this is an excellent choice for almost any residence. I would whole-heartedly reccomend to a friend!

Great spatial sounding Speaker

My first Sonos speaker to try.
Not bad.....
Setup.
Setup was a snap. Using the Sonos app, it took all but a few minutes. It updated the firmware and I was up and running. I also paired with Bluetooth with android for other app usage like other movie streaming apps etc.
Alexa and Google integration was pretty easy to use as well.
Only issue I had personally was trying to link to my my NAS with all of my music using the Sonos app. It could not get it to see my NAS. There is no good tutorials or other help out. There is not go to guide to get you through this.
Spatial sound comes out from all directions. Range is really good. From lows to highs. Frequency blend and spatial use is good. I ran only using 1 speaker to watch movies and it held up pretty well.
You can tell the build is good with the weight. Typically the heavier the speaker the better the output due to size of and density of the magnets.
Size is good compact. Super simple operation. Color is nice. Black and simple design. Nice to be able to switch off mic. Optional to buy a sleek stand to mount this.
Specs says it is humidity resistant. Wonder if that means you can take it and use it in your bathroom on the counter and use while you bath or shower. Obvious not in the bath or shower because it requires 110 Volts of electricity.
You can pair this with their other system from what the specs say. I did not test this but if it can be paired with a center speaker and other satellite speakers, I can see this as some serious listening events from movies to music... Wished I could have tested a system out.
For my first Sonos experience, not bad. Really nice speaker. It would have been nicer if I could have gotten my NAS to see the Sonos app. Oh well. Can't have it all.
For these reasons I would recommend this product.

To feel the difference between Sonos - Era 300 – Black and other wireless speakers, you’ll simply have to plug it in and experience the amazing next-level audio all around. The Dolby Atmos music is amazingly supported by six drivers placed all around the speaker i.e. to the front, side, and top to provide the Dolby surround experience exactly like we feel in a theater. Each driver is optimally positioned to remove any blind spots in the room, no matter where you are in the room, you’ll experience the same effects so there isn’t any specific sweet spot in the room, but the entire room becomes one. This is such an important feature that other compact speakers lack and is achieved by having tweeters on both sides and the center one provides the dazzling vocals and lead instruments to the sound effects. I enjoyed getting the high level of audio from each direction and getting immersed in the music. The design is unique in itself and doesn’t need to be hidden in the room and can easily be a center of room attraction. The speaker’s connectivity was easy and quick. It can be connected in multiple ways via WIFI, Bluetooth, or using an auxiliary cable. Each option is straightforward to connect with. It immediately connects and can be either controlled by the buttons on the top of the speaker or via the controls on the connectivity devices. What’s more, this can either be voice or app controlled.
Overall, this is a great addition to my tech gallery and gives outstanding music experience from a
standalone speaker and can easily be the path-breaking speaker in this category.

I’ve had several Sonos products and never had issues setting them up, even the first generation ones. Well, this time was a complete struggle. I’ve got stuck on a doom loop and could not get it to connect the speaker to the Sonos app, I’ve had this issue with the first speaker then I went back to Best Buy and exchanged for a second one but lo and behold, it was not the speaker. I’ve trying contacting Sonos with no success, was placed on hold for over 2 hours and the representatives are never available to live chat. I went online to a few tech blogs and it turns out several people are having the same issue, some offer a few solutions such as unistall the app, restart WiFi, clear app cache but absolutely nothing worked. The Sonos app can’t even find the speaker and the few time that it did I was prompted to a screen instructed me to sign in a the owner of the system which I am? Anyway, on my way back to Best Buy to return it, very frustrated with the lack of Sonos Support.

Exceeded Expectations

Even though I had high expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by the Sonos Era 300. The sound quality is really good. Basic setup is quick and easy. And there are a LOT of sources for audio available. Whether you want to listen to audiobooks, the latest tunes, streaming radio or something from your personal collection, you can listen with the Sonos Era 300.
What’s in the Box:
The Sonos Era 300 speaker
Power cable
Dust Cover
Setup (At a glance) instructions. (If you’d like the full manual, the URL is printed right on the instruction card)
First connect the power cable and place the Sonos Era 300 speaker where there are at least 8 inches of clearance around it. I put mine on a small side table for initial testing. Download the Sonos app to your phone. (You can also download a Sonos app, found on the Sonos website, to your Windows computer.) Make sure your phone is connected to your WiFi network, open the Sonos app, set up a Sonos account if don’t have one, log in and tap Add Product and follow the directions to set up your Sonos Era 300 speaker.
If you are an Alexa user, you can control your Sonos Era 300 with Alexa. (Sorry Google Assistant users, the Google Assistant voice control option is missing at this time.) Tap the gear icon in the app. Ensure the master mic control switch (on the back near the bottom of the speaker) is on, as well as the voice enabled indicator light on top of the speaker. Tap “Services and Voice”, then tap “Add a Voice Assistant” to add Alexa. You’ll need to go through a few hoops, but once it’s done you are set to use Alexa for control. I have mine set up to simply use the built in Sonos Voice Control, though. Setup for Sonos Voice Control is found in the same spot under settings. If you prefer to not enable voice control, you can still control the Sonos Era 300 from the app. And you can turn the microphone completely off if you don't want to use voice control.
To set up audio sources, again go to settings by tapping the gear icon in the app, then go to “Services & Voice”. Select “Add a Service” and start selecting the services you want to listen to. Some are paid services, so pick the ones you subscribe to or want to subscribe to. There are also lots of free services, like iHeart Radio and Libby to listen to music and audio books available from your library.
I also connected the Sonos Era 300 to my NAS. I was happy to see Plex as one of the supported services. But I keep my NAS off the Internet, restricted to local access. The Plex service on the Sonos app only works if your local Plex server communicates with your online Plex account. Sooo that didn’t work. But I was able to connect to my music collection by going to Settings -> System -> Music Library -> Music Library Setup -> Add Shared Music Folder, then providing the network address and path to my music collection.
One of the cool things about Sonos speakers is that you can network them together and control them from one spot. The app makes it easy to network all your Sonos speakers together.
Additional options include Bluetooth connectivity to pretty much any Bluetooth audio source. Using Trueplay (built-in) to automatically optimize the audio for the room where the Sonos resides. (It is worth the few minutes to do this.) Airplay, alarms, sleep timer, and with optional adapters you can hardwire it to your Ethernet network or use Line-in as a source.
In summary, I highly recommend the Sonos Era 300 speaker. While setup is very simple, the unit is highly customizable if you choose. There are a large number of compatible sources for streaming audio, including Libby to connect to audio books from your local library, online radio, your personal collection and nearly any streaming audio source you’ve ever heard of. If you already own other Sonos speakers, this one will look for and connect with them. It’s easy to use, whether you choose Alexa, Sonos voice control, the app, or the touch controls on the speaker itself. It’s hard to go wrong with this one.

Big, Beautiful Sound

The Sonos Era 300 sounds great – like, seriously, awesome – with all types of music. Over the years, I have had portable and tabletop speakers from multiple high-end manufacturers. The Sonos Era 300 is the best sounding wireless speaker I’ve used. There are drivers directing the sound forward, left, right, and up. This creates sound that, with the right recording mastered in Dolby Atmos Music, actually succeeds in delivering a sense of dimension to the music that I have never heard before from a single speaker. I can imagine the vocals are here, the guitar is there, the drums are over there, backup vocals, etc. It is a feeling of immersion that is very cool and very impressive.
With the potential for multiple devices streaming music to the speaker (everybody’s got a phone), my household has historically relied on Bluetooth for easy connection. I have wanted to try a Sonos bookshelf or tabletop speaker, but until now they have been WiFi-only. Bluetooth on the Sonos Era 300 changed that, and it was time to take the plunge. Wow!
The Sonos Era 300 impresses from the start. It has a pleasing heft and premium packaging that exudes quality before the box is even opened. Unboxing reveals just the necessities: The Sonos Era 300 speaker, power cord, and some documents.
Setup was painless. Download the Sonos app and plug in the speaker. Enter your WiFi password and wait for the speaker to connect to the network. An update was downloaded and applied. Since then, it’s been nothing but beautiful music.
The Sonos app is necessary for connection to your network and keeping your speaker up to date. It can be used to control multiple Sonos speakers, and you can group them however you like to enjoy the music as you move through your day. It supports a variety of music services and centralizes playback from a single app.
Voice control is supported via onboard microphones. There is an on/off switch on the rear of the unit to enable/disable the microphones. The mics must be enabled while doing the Trueplay setup and can be disabled once setup is complete. I am privacy-minded and appreciate this inclusion.
Trueplay tuning fine-tunes the audio to the speaker’s surroundings by sensing how sound bounces off the surfaces in your room. Perhaps my room didn’t require much adjustment? I did some before and after comparisons and couldn’t discern the difference. That’s okay. It sounds wonderful.
The capacitive touch controls are easy to use and logically laid out. There is a lateral trough/depression in the top front of the case that guides your finger and makes it easy to adjust volume with just a touch or slide. All of the expected controls are present.
The Sonos Era 300 is always powered on. I was initially surprised and a little irritated that there is not a dedicated power switch and the ability to turn off the speaker. That feeling passed within 24 hours as I quickly realized I no longer need to get up and go turn the speaker on. I just launch my music app, choose the Sonos speaker, and enjoy the excellent sound.
It turns out that I prefer connecting to the Sonos Era 300 over WiFi. I never would’ve guessed. I know I started this by stating that I was waiting for Bluetooth functionality, but it didn’t take me long to realize that I can walk away from the speaker, phone in my pocket, get halfway across the house and still have the rock-solid connection to my speaker. Bluetooth connections are subject to interference and drops the farther you get from the speaker. Additionally, when playing music over Wi-Fi, notifications sound on the phone and not over the speaker; I think this is a big improvement over a Bluetooth connection where notifications interrupt the music. I also love that I can use voice dictation while music is playing over Wi-Fi. If I try to do this while streaming over Bluetooth, the music is muted. A simpler way of saying it: I can listen to music and continue to use my phone normally.
Product literature says that this speaker can be used in a stereo pair or in a surround sound system mated with a Sonos Arc or Beam. With sound like this, I cannot wait to try it!
The Sonos Era 300 is the best sounding wireless speaker I’ve ever used. Highly recommended.

The Sonos Era 300 is an impressive smart speaker that’s been designed to take advantage of spatial audio. Even if your favorite songs don’t have a spatial audio version, the Sonos Era 300 still delivers a rich wide enveloping sound backed by a satisfying punchy bass. The price of admission it’s a pricey one, but for the type of sound quality coming out of this mid-size speaker in my opinion it’s well worth it.
Coming in with 6 drivers (2 woofers and 4 tweeters) that have been arranged to provide an expansive soundstage. Right off the bat, I noticed how rich the music sounded and the bass not expecting it to be punchy like the way it hit. The highs are bright and the bass has some strong depth to it that doesn’t overpower everything else. The quality of music coming out of a single Era 300 is impressive can’t imagine how much better it would be with 2 of them paired together. If you happen to have a Sonos Dolby Atmos soundbar it can easily be integrated to provide a true theater-like experience. Even on a Bluetooth connection it still sounds amazing. You won’t be able to listen to any spatial audio music over Bluetooth. For the best audio quality, Wi-Fi is the way to go. Sonos does sell a line adapter that will allow you to plug in audio devices via an aux jack over the USB C port. The USB C port also supports an ethernet adapter if you prefer a much more stable connection.
For set up there wasn’t much to it besides the plugin in the power cord and download of the Sonos app. Not only does the app provide firmware updates, and equalizer options but a neat feature called quick tuning that will tune in your speaker using the built-in mics. IOS users have access to advanced tuning that uses the mics from the IOS device instead. The Sonos app also allows you to set up voice assistance like Alexa or Sonos voice assistance. Unfortunately, there’s no support for Google Assistance or Siri. If you have any privacy concerns there’s a mic switch in the back that kills the power to the mic. The app also gains you access to some streaming music services like Sonos Radio, TuneIn, and iHeart Radio. You also have the option to add additional music services like Apple Music, Spotify, and many more. The app is not perfect though. When I added my YouTube Music account none of the music showed up. Even after multiple time removing and adding my account, I could not get it to work. For my Spotify account, I did not have any issues.
Some of the shortcomings I’ve experienced are AirPlay connection dropping and no audio even if it shows currently playing with the volume not being on mute. For Android users, you’re left at the mercy of the Sonos app for Wi-Fi streaming. If your choice of music streaming is not compatible with the Sonos app you will have to fall back on Bluetooth for playback. Of these issues like drop connection, I’m not too worried about them since a firmware update can take care of it. What I would like to see in a future update is support for Cast Streaming and Google Voice assistant.
Overall the Sonos Era 300 is an amazing-sounding speaker that will quickly have you falling in love with it. More songs are being remastered with Spatial Audio so sooner or later there’s a high chance your favorite song will be. Wi-Fi has become my favorite way of streaming music wireless due to its reliability and overall higher audio quality. The door is wide open for new features to be added via firmware updates. The future is bright for the Sonos Era 300.
