Great sound and sound-stage width
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound even at high volumes, impressive bass for a speaker of its size. Very premium look and feel. Widest soundstage I have ever heard from a single unit, but there's no way to match true stereo sound without two individual speakers. Very spendy, but worth it. Fills up a moderate sized room with full warm sound. Love Sonos and how they always update all their products with all software updates.

Sonos makes it easy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I currently have a Sonos set up in the house. I use the Connect with a receiver to power outdoor speakers. I decided I wanted music in the living room too. I purchased the Play 5. Although the price made me a little hesitant, I went ahead anyway. I’m glad I did. I placed the unit where I wanted and the set up couldn’t have been any easier. With in 5 minutes the unit was up and running and I was tuning it to my room. The TruePlay feature on the app helps tune the unit to your room and where you place the speaker. It takes all of 2 minutes to do this. The speaker fills the room with good sound. I can’t say the sound is spectacular. True audiophiles may turn their nose up at the sound quality, but given the size of the unit the sound is pretty darn good. The bass is good and the mids and highs are pretty good too. I wish the EQ on the app was a little more detailed instead of simply “Bass” and “Treble”. Yes, the $499 is steep. But when you consider the product and what it offers, I say it’s worth it. The real score is more like 4.5 stars. 4 stars would be too little.

Changed the way I listen to music
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I certainly don't consider myself an audiophile. I knew I wanted a nice-sounding wireless speaker, but more importantly, I wanted one that was easy and fun to use. The Play:5 goes above and beyond, delivering some of the best sound I've ever heard in my home. Setup is incredibly easy: just plug in the speaker, download an app to your phone, and connect to a Wi-Fi network. The integration with my iTunes music, Spotify, and Pandora is seamless. The speaker is very portable and re-establishes its wireless connection very quickly after being plugged in. The price may be intimidating, but the quality and simplicity of this speaker is unbeatable. Highly recommended!

Rave Reviews Validated
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had some friends rave about the Sonos system. Bought a couple of the new Play:5's and, I have to say, they've lived up to all the praise. Great sound, easy setup, looks good. A bit pricey, but I've purchased the cheaper alternatives and have been dissatisfied.

Awesome base. Clear midrange!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome speaker. Provides great bass and clear midrange in a large room and when I turn it up, it rocks the whole house. The Sonos app is super user friendly. Cant wait to expand my system with some additonal Sonos speakers and eventually a soundbar and sub.

Great compromise!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't make the mistake of thinking about these as an alternative to a Bluetooth speaker. Before purchasing a pair of the new Sonos Play 5's I installed a full Definitive Technology home theater set up. No real complaints on that system other than the tremendous amount of space that needed to be dedicated to it and the hundred feet of wire. They were just too much and took over the room. Obviously the Play 5's are not a home theater replacement but for music listening I feel like I gave up very little and the beauty of wireless and ease of set up more than makes up for it. These speaker put out a lot of high quality sound and enormous bass for their size. Do yourself a favor and make some adjustments on the built in EQ after you have set them up and run the Trueplay. I'm ready to order a couple more of these and am anxiously awaiting a new Playbar to add to the system.

Worth every $
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have each of the Sonos speakers (1,2,3 and play bar) The 5 by far has the best sound and is the only choice for a larger room. Of course it doesn't sound like the Paridigms for critical listening but the versatility and functionality of the Sonos system simply is more refined than any of the other "similar" systems for whole house music. I know they aren't cheap but now even my wife is on board because of the ease of use. We now have a player in every room in the home. HINT: The larger the room the bigger the speaker. 1 is fine for bathrooms and small bedrooms/office, 5 for living rooms or combined rooms (kitchen/living). Use the 3 for average bedrooms. The play bar is great for center channel or for confined spaces center and right/left. Also, if you want whatever is playing on the TV to play through other Sonos speakers you'll need the play bar on that TV.

Great product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound is amazing and works better than expected. I have Bose portable speakers and they work well, I was surprised that this sounds better and has real Base to fill a living room! It's loud too, and works on my home wifi flawlessly!

Great sound in a compact wireless speaker
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound on the new Play 5 is a little richer and has more base than the original Play 5. The only drawback i found is that if you have two in a room , you cannot pair them for stereo sound if the other speaker is a first generation Play 5. But they still sound very nice together. Also, I would have given this a 5 stars but as with most Sonos equipment, it is too expensive.

This thing is awesome!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been looking at the Sonos system for about a year and finally pulled the trigger. It didn't disappoint. The sound is fantastic. The set-up was ridiculously easy. And connecting it to other speakers across the house was seamless. My only gripe is that once you start playing music, you find out that certain songs on Itunes won't play without Itunes match, some of Google Play is limited without a subscription. But you get access to hundreds of music playing apps on the other side.

Excellent speaker
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second Sonos Play5. It is extremely easy to set up. I use mine from both a desktop and cell phone controller. There are tons of streaming options and it's especially useful if you subscribe to a music service. You can even stream your local radio stations. Most importantly, the sound quality is excellent. With 2 in my main living area, (office, formal and informal living rooms, kitchen, dining room), the quailty is amazing and I can crank it up when I want to. I can control the two speakers together, or separately depending on my needs. I will likely purchase smaller speakers (Play 1 or 3) for bedrooms in the near future.

Excellent sound for a single speaker
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I already own a pair of Sonos Play 1 speakers for my living room. Bought the Play 5 for an office and because it has an aux in, hooked up a turntable. Easy to add to an the existing Sonos system - clear sound, surprisingly good bass for a single speaker system. I'll probably end up getting a second Play 5 and switch the 2 play 1's to the office. Really impressed with the sound quality of Sonos products.

Absolutely amazing sound for wireless!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Plus: Extremely convenient to stream music from laptops, tablets & smart phones. Great build quality and overall appearance. Cons: Expensive vs other bluetooth or wireless speakers, although build quality, features, versatility and sound quality is superior to anything else...including B&W speakers. Huge tip: 2 Play 5's set up as a stereo system has a much wider, deeper sound stage with obviously much better stereo separation. In fact, 2 of Sono's smaller speakers might actually be a better value than just the one Play5 speaker, as far as sound stage; minsu the incredible base of the Play5 speakers.

High Quality, Great Sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the Sonos 5 as a Christmas present to ourselves. Pretty easy set-up as the instructions guide you through each step for placement and sound testing. The great music begins! We were playing music off our phones and have really enjoyed just linking into Pandora and creating new and interesting channels. It is great to be able to control the Sonos 5 from anywhere in the house, whether it be volume control, changing "stations", or simply turning it on or off from virtually anywhere in the house. The sound quality on the Sonos 5 is beyond excellent. Throughout all sound ranges and at any volume, everything is super clear and of excellent quality. I tend to play my music a bit louder than my wife, and am reminded of that when the volume suddenly goes down as she adjusts from another room. With our daughter visiting with her new baby, we mix it up quite a bit between sweet lullabies and a little rock and roll! Will be adding smaller Sonos devices throughout the house and look forward to the ability to create a whole house experience of the same music throughout, or different music in different areas. VERY pleased with Sonos 5!

excellent, as usual from sonos
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had 2 of the old play 5 units and recently purchased one of the new models. I still love the sound of the old model but have to admit, the new unit has more, tighter bass. The clarity high and midrange drivers have is improved. I believe that there are more amplifiers used within the unit to boost individual frequencies. The result is not a huge difference but a step forward showing Sonos knows their stuff. Now if they would just develop an updated "connect" unit that would allow streaming of high-resolution flac files I would say their line is complete.

Best single Sonos yet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simply put, this is the best single Sonos speaker. I have all the other speakers in my house and this one by far has the most dynamic range, clarity and presentation of them all. I am itching to get a matching speaker to make a stereo pair to truly have the best sound possible. The new direction that Sonos is going with the capacitive controls and materials for the speaker are all top notch. Plus the white and black contrast is very appealing to the eye. If you are a long time Sonos user or want to jump in, this is the speaker for you.

Impressed!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the Sonos PLAY:5 for about a month. I had an old Bose sound dock (used with an old iPod) for many years and decided I was tired of dealing with my iTunes library...downloading songs onto the iPod. It was time to upgrade and decided to go with streaming music to give me more music variety. I'd heard a lot about the Sonos (and did some reading about it) so I went to Best Buy to hear the sound quality of the PLAY:5. Our old Bose dock was of similar size to the PLAY:5, but I was skeptical of how well it would compare. Afterall, Bose is known for its excellent sound. I will admit that I was surprised how well the Sonos PLAY:5 stacked up against our old Bose! The setup of the Sonos was very easy! It quickly connected to our home wifi and I was off and running! I purchased a premium membership with Spotify (can't stand ads) and it integrated easily and seamlessly with the Sonos app. In the future, I will likely purchase another Sonos for the kitchen (probably the smaller PLAY:1 or PLAY:3). While it is a little pricey at $500, I'm happy with it and would recommend it.

Sonos play 5
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was reluctant at first to purchase this speaker. The hefty price tag, inability to connect via Bluetooth and being solely dependent on wi-fi were a bit off putting. But after reading countless reviews and owning 3 play 1s and a play 3, I figured I’d give it a shot. Couldn’t be happier. The sound is incredible! I’m a die hard hi fi head. This beast gives my b&ws a run for their money. Plus, there’s a input on the back in case you lose wi-fi or want travel with it

Great sound, great platform, great design!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I listened to the old gen play 5 before I bought this. The new one is so much more modern in design, and has even better sound. The platform is so much easier to use than any of its competitors. A nobrainer if you are in the market for a wifi speaker.
