After having an audit of our home regarding our technology needs by a Best Buy rep, we decided to replace a current TV sound system that had speakers which needed to connect together through wires with a new wireless sound system. The Best Buy rep recommended the Sonos Soundbar and explained its properties were such that we might be happy with just the Soundbar and no other speakers. However, it was explained that additional speakers can be added at any time. We purchased just the Soundbar and are VERY happy and satisfied with its output. It has the option to be managed through the TV remote or to take full advantage of all its options an app downloaded from the I-Tunes App Store allows the user to play personal music contained on your device through the Soundbar. Additional music apps like Pandora, Spotify, etc. can also be played in this manner. Additional wireless speakers can be purchased to give a real surround effect and can also be placed in other rooms or on outside patios/decks. We thought we would be happy with just the Soundbar but after listening to the excellent quality, we are already planning on purchasing a couple additional speakers soon. Would very highly recommend this system.

I started with a Sonos Play 5, which sold me on the brand. Then, I added the Sonos Playbar, the Sonos Sub Woofer, a Play 3, a Pioneer 301 receiver, Bowers & Wilkens bookshelf speakers, Samsung blue ray upscaling, Sonos Connect, Sonos Boost and protected them all with the Power Max Home Theater Management surge protector. I used the Geek Squad for the set up. They did an exceptional job and were well worth the cost! My initial Sonos Play 5 was easy to set up by myself. I was glad I used the Geek Squad for the second purchase to link everything together because I had difficulty getting connected to wi if once we started adding the Play Bar, Sub WooferPlay 3 and Sonos Connect. The Geek Squad contacted the Sonos help desk who were very helpful and we added a Sonos boost. The Boost gave us a stronger wifi signal and enabled us to connect every thing. We connected a turntable to the Pioneer Receiver as well. The sound is incredible whether just using the Sonos or linking the existing stereo system. Being able to play my vinyl record collection through all speakers or my iTunes library through all speakers brings incredible sound throughout my home. I only wish I had learned sooner about Sonos and all the possibilities they bring in creating an incredible home sound system!

My wife hates technology. I love technology. So we have to meet somewhere in the middle. I found this product in my search for a potentially expandable soundbar option. I wanted something with minimal wires that I could eventually make into a nice 5.1 system. I never thought I would find something like this little gem. Needless to say I'm hooked now! It isn't perfect and there are some snafus however overall I am in love with this soundbar. Sound wise it is definitely higher end - potentially audiophile quality or possibly right under. MUCH MUCH better than say a Bose product. This is the real deal 9 drivers, 3 tweeters and 6 mid woofers. It acts as a real 3.0 system. I originally went home with the playbar and woofer but within three weeks I had 2 play 3s on order to act as the surrounds. With this configuration I can confirm a discrete 5.1 channels with no faux surround in sight. Good stuff. The sub woofer is absolutely incredible. The cleanest sub I've ever heard, good spl also. The play bar and other speakers look fantastic, very high end indeed! The nicest thing about this system is it eliminates any need for separate music speakers or docks. Since every thing is wireless you can play music from your ipad without moving. It's amazing. I definitely listen to more music now that I have the sonos system. My biggest frustration is with the single optical input, however this is easily resolved with a $35 toslink switch.

Looks Great, Sounds Great, Audio Drops!

Since Sonos relies on the TV optic audio output, it also relies on the TV's ability to process a multitude of audio signals from DVD, Cable, etc, but the Sonos isn't compatible with some audio forms so, the TV must convert the signal and feed it to the Sonos, which results in constant 3-4 second audio drop outs about 6 times an hour, depending on the signal. I wish I would have known this prior to purchase or I would have spent my $1,500 on a system that can process it's own signals has another choice of input like HDMI. My receiver doesn't have an optic output, but whats the point of buying this to declutter your entertainment system only to have to get a receiver to process signals. And no, I don't have a cheap TV it's a 2016 55" Samsung UHDTV Smart TV. I would recommend this to a friend with a warning! Sonos....get a firmware update out there to up the quality of your system. It looks great, sounds great, but shouldn't be so "buggy" at this price point!

It came down to Sonos or Bose.

After a living room remodel, my 35 year old JBL 4312 Control Monitors just seemed old and dated. They still cranked out the music perfectly, but they needed to go. Our searching finally came down to Bose or Sonos. Of course, at the store it was nearly impossible to decide, but our salesman (Judson) strongly suggested the Sonos since most of what we wanted it for was to listen to music. Setup was super easy and fine tuning it to our space was too. I tried different locations and configurations and tuned the Sonos each time until we found the optimum placement. We are totally satisfied with the Sonos Playbar. It fills the room (actually at volume it fills nearly the whole house!) with top quality sound, and the fact that it allows us to easily access multiple libraries is great. It couldn't be easier. We also like the fact that our remote can be our phones, tablets, or laptops and the Sonos software works the same on all of them. Is it a perfect replacement for nearly the nearly perfect sounding JBL Control Monitors? Hmmmm... If I'm totally honest I would have to say "not entirely but very close". I'm still extremely and entirely satisfied with the Sonos.

You will be happy with the sound bar only but if you want complete sound add play 3 speakers. Later add other options. If you over buy you can find a place for your speakers. Wireless system is great. Once you learn how to operate the system you will never buy another system. I have been waiting for a system that is wireless and this is it. Sound bar produces mega bass and adding the sub really enhances the sound. Quick setup: Set up each room to the sound bar with play 3 as surround speakers. Set up play one in same room naming it another room for enhanced speaking. Set up play 5 in rear of room naming it in another room and it will play language and deep background. When grouped you can control each separately on your iPad/iPhone. Family complains it is too loud so now I can eliminate all the great sound and isolate the sound to my play 1 speaker next to the couch. It still sounds great and can hear every word without disturbing family upstairs. [When they are away WOW the sound is fantastic. Michael Jackson DVD sounds live] Note: sometimes speaker grouping is lost and an easy fix for iPhone is to turn on and off airplane mode and system reconnects. I'm a believer in SONOS. They make new products to add to your existing system.

Ok so here it is... I went to my local Best Buy to replace a 5.1 channel sound bar which wasn't doing the trick in a new addition. I was planning on spending somewhere between 300 - 500 dollars but was concerned the new system would come with the same problems as the sound bar had. Bottom line I spent way more than I thought and COULD NOT be happier with the purchase. I went with this sound bar and added the subwoofer and 2 play one speakers to complete the system. WOW, i am still amazed at the sound. People who come over laugh and tell me they thought there were people in the backyard, thats how good the system sounds when watching a game or other show on TV. The music sounds incredible too and all the settings are user/room friendly. The app is incredible and the tech support has been outstanding answering simple questions I had while I was learning the product. My final though is....if you want great sound don't pass this up, you will be amazed. Glad I spent the extra bucks for something I will be enjoying for a long time -

This was my first sound bar purchase after years of having different Sony AV Dolby system set ups. At first I was skeptical it would deliver acceptable sound for movies and general TV, however I have been impressed with it quality for music, TV and movies. So much so I bought a second system. The audio quality on voices is much improved over internal TV speakers. The best thing they did with this product recently is make it so you can control the volume with your TV remote. Before you had to use a phone or tablet and my wife hated that. Now that you can use the TV remote she likes it (almost as much as I do). A couple of things to consider if you want to get this system are: -If you TV does not have an easy way to turn off internal speakers, look up online the hotel control feature for your TV to use the TV remote on the Sonos system. I have a Panasonic that would not turn off the internal speakers but the hotel menu allowed me to set the max volume at zero and could then use just one remote -If you are considering a Sonos Connect wireless control unit (~$100) you may not need it. If you have any of your Sonos system components that you can leave plugged in to your ethernet connection any component can act as the Sonos wireless generator. They do not tell you this and it could save you $100 if you can make it work.

Extremely pleased with the sound bar so much that I have already added the subwoofer and two Play 1's to enjoy surround sound. The sound bar adds crystal clarity to the tv audio and has features that allow you to tweak the audio (I.e., nighttime mode). Sonos' support staff has been excellent in helping me understand how best to setup and configure the system. One downside to the Sonos is that when playing DVD's where the audio is in certain formats (I.e., DTS) Sonos cannot handle that signal type and therefore it must be converted to an alternate format. Most of the Samsung blu-ray players and a few Sony players will do this automatically after you setup the player initially. Sonos was extremely helpful in addressing this issue and showing me what to do! Another great feature of Sonos is the ease of controlling the system. I have both Apple and Android devices and Sonos plays well with both. Sonos uses your home wifi to stream music from various sources (I.e., Pandora, Spotify, etc.) and therefore I can have music playing anywhere where I have a Sonos speaker(s) with minimal effort. Just a really nice setup. One last comment, there is a definite difference is sound quality when comparing Sonos to the Bose Soundtouch 300.......I do not regret having gone with Sonos.

After hearing this dude in the store, I brought it home and paired it with a Samsung 4K television. The sound is stellar. So stellar, that I have put off acquiring the accompanying sub-woofer for the time being. I like being able to use the speaker without the television via the SONOS app. I also have some cons though. First, the app needs some work. It is not as intuitive as one might expect, and finding certain functions, like adjusting the bass levels, is a chore. If you just use the app to turn the volume up and down, then it's easy peasy. This brings me to my second issue, the SONOS speaker, at the moment, can only be turned up or down with the app as it is not compatible with my television, at least not yet. Lastly, mine hangs on the wall, and I uses the SONOS wall bracket. The location of the power and optical wire are difficult to hide based on their location in the speaker and the location of the hole that's available in the back of the bracket. I wish there was a small plate available to cover them up. But the sound trumps everything!

Bought the Playbar after considering other sound bars and wireless solutions. I labored over the cost/value relationship -- the $700 for the Playbar, I knew, would just be the beginning. In the end it was a really, really good purchase. Placed on the mantle above the fireplace directly under the TV, it sounds awesome. To help you understand the tonal qualities of the room, the walls are sheet rock with hardwood floors and 12' ceiling. TV dialog through the SONOS is clear and distinct. There are nuances of sound we never knew were there until now. Everyone is amazed at the sound quality. One of the best features is that when I'm listening to music from Pandora, my idevices or my music library, the system knows when someone turns on the TV. It adjusts the volume and switches automatically to the TV. How nifty is that? This system is so solid an investment that two weeks later I went back and bought the Sub and Boost. The Sub rounds out the bottom end to perfection as evidenced by the opening scene of Top Gun rattling the windows. Enough said. Next will be the surrounds. Just have to decide between the Play 1 or the Play 2.

If you have gone all in on Sonos speakers for part of your home and wonder if this is a purchase for you, I would say get it. If you are thinking about Sonos then perhaps start with something smaller like the Play 1. First, let's start with the good things about it. Simple set up. Limited cords running in/out of the device. Solid app from Sonos to play music. The app also has a low base mode for watching things at night and another mode that increases speaking audio so you can hear better. They work pretty well too. The speaker works with Harmony remotes and I have had little trouble with it. Cautionary notes: Sonos works well with most wifi networks but not all, depending on your setup. Your wifi may interfere causing the speakers to drop out so make sure you know how to change your settings. The bad: this isn't cheap and you really need the sub to go with it, making it even more costly. No Bluetooth streaming from your device is another. This is a Sonos thing and I get it, they want you to have a specific type of experience with their speakers. Still, at the end of the day I can't play stuff directly off of my phone. But also at the end of the day I am very happy with the speaker and would recommend it.

As an HDTV installer & integrator, we always reccomend some additional audio products for anyone purchasing or installing any TV. Whenever the situation calls for it, this SONOS Playbar is the first soundbar we reccomend. We love all SONOS products, their entire line up is excellent. It sounds great, is super easy to set up, and always impresses anyone who hears it. The versatillity this Playbar adds to any SONOS system is beyond comparison...it sounds great alone as a TV (simulated) surround system, and can be easily attached "wirelessly" to a SONOS Sub and 2 rear speakers to create even better sound. The SONOS app interface and it's very complete wide range of audio options like Pandora, Spreaker, iHeart Radio, and many more internet audio options are constantly being updated. You'd be hard pressed to find an internet audio source that isn't compatible with SONOS, and if you do, and send them a note, they will find a way to add it to their already excellent list of compatible audio sources. And....it is a great building block for a whole house "wireless" audio system. In our opinion, the best and most versatile audio option available in this price range...

Very happy with the Sonos Playbar. It has clear treble, is loud enough for my medium-sized living room, gives excellent dialogue from the TV, and is very handsome. I also use it for music and the voices are crisp and clean. A tremendous improvement on the Samsung TV's meager sound. I plan to buy the accompanying subwoofer at some point (but it's pricey) and get even better sound, especially from action movies and rock music. For now, I can live with the Playbar alone, as the sound is very good, even amazing considering how small it is. I have audiophile equipment at my primary home, so if you are used to that, be advised that this is a sound bar, not a 5.1 or 7.1 system with five separate speakers placed at the right distances, along with a subwoofer, all hooked to a powerful receiver. It's a compromise for space reasons; thus, you would be fairer to compare it with other sound bars, not a real system, although it does come with options for more speakers, if you have the space and the money. One more thing: If you're not a genuine techie, you can rely on the Sonos support number. The fellow I dealt with was awesome. He guided me though every step -- remember, it works through your Wifi router -- even helping me program my Infinity remote. Couldn't have asked for better. He had me up and running in less than a half-hour. Give the Sonos staff an A++++.

1st PACKAGING IS GRADE A:)! Good job SONOS. Everything looks royal class when you open the box. 2nd there is a way to make LG Magic Remote work with the bar. SONOS has a support article on this. However I would recommend a “Logitech Harmony.” You can control from SONOS app too. 3rd update & setup was smooth. Main reason I got this was for the “Apple Music” service support. I tested Playbar with “Disney’s” movie “Moana.” It was absolutely incredible. Even my friend thought “Wow!!” No weird sounds. Every detail we heard. If you bought a new tv & was struggling between all the different sound bars. I struggled between “Bose ST 300” & “LG SJ9.”I would get the SONOS. For music & movies with the sub. It’s an epic combo. Even without the sub. I still felt the bar sounded pretty good especially for music. Music on this bar is beautiful. I’m going to hang my tv on the wall. The height of the sound bar is a little taller then most. You can see it in any Best Buy with live demos. Be aware Trueplay is coming to iPhone 8/X soon. That was my only disappointment. That will not effect review because of how new my iPhone 8 Plus is. Hoping for it to be soon.

I love my Sonos system. I just bought a PlayBar and Play base (wanted to decide which one was best for me), a PlaySub, and two Play:1 speakers for surrounds. I don't have a lot of space where it all went, so I love that the pieces don't overpower the room looks-wise. And the sound is surprising very good. I did end up going with the PlayBar instead of the PlayBase. The PlayBase's treble was too much. Tinny isn't quite the right word, but it was a bit piercing. The PlayBar's treble is more natural sounding. I don't have it wall mounted, it just sits on the cabinet below the TV and works just fine that way. The price is worth it, I think. You aren't going to get as good sound as you could get from a true home theater system, but the compromise of not having to have wires running across your room and having a cleaner look is worth it. I also really love the integration with Google Play and Spotify. Apparently it used to have integration with Audible, but it stopped working in 2015. I can find a statement that says Audible and Sonos are committed to getting it working by the end of summer 2018, so hopefully soon it will be back up. All in all, I recommend the pieces, except the PlayBase.

Provides great room-filling sound. Tried it out in store and at a friends house who has the complete 5.1 set up. Compared side-by-side with Bose 300 soundbar and this had more crisp sound in my opinion. Plus the Sonos app integrates other Sonos speakers well. Will slowly start purchasing additional speakers/sub to complete the system. -Able to control with Alexa -Syncs with Spotify and other music services -Easy setup - Can sit on table or mount to wall Cons: No physical remote, but works with iOS and Android with Sonos app, also with Alexa Mount needs to be purchased separately Wires are slightly visible below when mounted to wall given location/angle the wires exit the system. Overall, highly recommend. Will probably be adding subwoofer and Play1 speakers next

I bought the Sonos Playbar to use with my new TV. I love the sound. Very clear and even. I listened to several soundbars and Sonos has the best sound. The Playbar has speakers angled upward and one on each side facing out in a 3.1 configuration. Even with the side facing speakers I felt all the sound was coming from the center. I guess that is typical of soundbars. The bass response is good – better than other soundbars. But, I wish it could go lower. They sell a subwoofer, which I did not buy. The Playbar is my first networked speaker. I love way they can be controlled from anywhere with the app. It is very easy to stream music, in my case from Amazon Music. The app is solid and well designed. Setup was a little tricky. I had to move the Playbar to the room where my router is so I could make a temporary wired connection to the router. This only has to be done once and it has worked perfectly since. I wound up buying the KEF LS50 WIreless speakers for my TV in order to get lower bass and greater stereo imaging. But I loved the Playbar so I moved it to the den.

Only wish this had hdmi input. I purchased this in a surround package(+sub woofer and 2 Sonos Ones)...by itself it’s not that impressive, although way better than TV speakers...when integrated into the surround package the Sonos system sounds AMAZING. The optical input delivers way better sound than I expected...Although I keep reading that HDMI is the way to go,. Rated this 4 stars as a stand-alone device, when paired with the surround I would give it a 5+. I also see a lot of Sonos reviews complaining that the Sonos updates are problematic...I’ve been through a couple of updates and have had none of the problems that many folks are experiencing. The app works great. I have this connected to. Samsung 82” QLEd UHD TV...no problems or issues. Would highly recommend biting the bullet and purchasing a sub and 2 surround speakers with this...you’ll be blown away at the quality.

I bought the SONOS Playbar as part as the 5.1 surround sound bundle. It sounds amazing and I love the whole home integration. Since buying this bundle I have bought another Play:1 (and will be buying more) so I can have whole home music playing. The one CON to this particular soundbar is that your only mode of connecting it to your AV equipment is via optical audio. Some TVs do not pass through surround sound via optical audio, so you may not get true surround sound from some sources. For example, my TV, Samsung, does not pass through surround sound via optical. So when I'm watching a DVD that surround sound signal gets sent to the TV and then TV then sends that to SONOS. Since my TV doesn't pass through surround sound, the signal sent to the playbar is a stereo signal. If all you have is the playbar, this is not an issue, but if you have a true 5.1 setup then it is an issue. The workaround that I ended up doing was to buy an optical audio AV switch. So now all my sources connect to the switch via optical audio and then the switch is connected directly to the playbar. Now all my video sources will play in surround sound.
