I bought the Sonos Playbar and three Play1's. I'm happy with the system overall and plan to add a couple more Play1's in other rooms. I was initially planning to buy the powered bass but the system has great bass without it and has more volume than I can enjoy in a condo already. Issues ...I can't use my Samsung Series 8 TV remote because the Sonos uses IR and the TV uses RF. So I'm having to use two remotes .. my XFINITY remote (IR) does everything but turn the TV on/off which I have to use the TV remote for. The ability to "group" speakers is more limited and less useful than i expected so I've stopped using it. I was hoping it would have the ability to assign speakers to multiple groups .. such as the Playbar be in the "Living Room" group while also being in an "All Speakers" group for example. So I could select Living Room to play TV audio and then later have the All Speakers group play iHeart radio but this doesn't seem to be possible. I also wish Sonos was integrated with my Amazon Echo. I hope the rumor I heard that is in the works is true.

I had two goals in mind when replacing my home theater system, which included an Onkyo receiver and 5.1 surround Klipsch speaker system. I wanted to eliminate wires, and be able to hear voices better without turning up the volume when watching TV programs and movies. I replaced my wired system with the Sonos Playbar, two Play 3 speakers, and Sonos Sub. This system met my needs perfectly. The wireless system is extremely easy to set up and works and sounds terrific. The control settings provide an option to enhance voices, which works really well. I no longer need to turn up the volume to hear voices and then suffer excessive volume when the action starts. I was never able to adequately calibrate my other system to achieve this. The Sonos system integrates all the components very well. I am impressed with the volume it can produce without distortion. The Sonos system has much more to offer than what I am covering in this review. I recommend checking out what Sonos has to offer.

Yeah.. Outstanding... I just replaced a Denon THX receiver, two HUGE towers, a big sub and 4 surround speakers with a Play Bar, 2 Play 3 speakers and a Sub. Sounds better than the 500 or so pounds of equipment I had cluttering up my living room! Not cheap, but, heck, the other stuff wasn't either. I can't believe the reviews here that claimed it was difficult to set up. Please! It's so simple, a kid could set it up (no offense to kids). People have asked me where all the sound is coming from! Plus, I don't have to hit 3 or 4 switches to toggle between the TV and the radio/music library. The future I've been waiting for has arrived! I'm going to buy 2 Play 1's for the surround and move the Play 3's to my bedroom. That will take about 5 minutes, MAX! With the radio feature of the SONOS software (it uses TuneIn Radio), I have all the local stations, if I want to listen to them. No longer need a receiver. Just plan to shell out a few $$. Don't compare the price to normal speakers because each unit is a full sound system rolled into 1! Call me a SONOS junkie!

They speakers are very expensive for what you get. I was able to buy an open box for about $530 in stead of the $700. The main reason to buy the play bar is the convenience of being to addd to it and build a custom set up. i would definitely recommend these speakers to anyone but make sure you buy the subwoofer along with this. If you have one of those low profile tvs that sit really close to the tv stand then i would not recommend these speakers things they are very think in height. They will definitely look better it wall mounted. The app is smooth but not very intuitive for adjusting the treble or base on the sub. You hind of have to dig through it a little. I am giving this 4 stars because it does not have bluetooth .One other issues is that you might need to connect it to your router to set it up.

Sonos soundbars and Play1 speakers are putting music in the apartment living room, kitchen and bedrooms. I didjn't need the subwoofer in my 1100sf space. Bass is respectable already and I'm a little picky.. Clean modern look. Love that the white speakers are small, robust and blend with my walls. Instantaneous set-up. Easy! Lots of fun setting alarms to whatever awesome music I can find online; playing different music in different spaces; instantly changing mood and music with Spotify, Pandora and more. Tv/movies are much more fun too now. My 50" TV with poor sound now sounds GREAT since I routed my OTA DVR and ROKU and DVD Player sound (via a 3-way toslink digital optical audio switch) to the soundbar -- BYPASSING the poor sound capacity of the TV. It instantly sounds like I bought an expensive TV instead of getting one for Free! I use my iphone to play with all the Sonos features; the app to make your phone a remote control is great. I also found it easy and convenient to program two TV/hardware remotes to also act as Sonos remote. I liked Sonos so much I bought a second soundbar and more Play1 speakers!

I spent an hour listening to different sound bars in the Best Buy store before settling on the Sonos Playbar. In the end, the sound from the Playbar was just far, far superior to anything else. The range and clarity, and even the bass level, without a subwoofer, are amazing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the lack of an analog or Bluetooth input. The Playbar connects to your TV via a fiber optic cable, which is great, but when using it as a speaker, you have to use the somewhat clunky Sonos app to play your music over the Playbar, which is less than convenient. Or, you need to buy the new Play:5, which has an analog input, and network them together. But there is no way to play music over the Soundbar alone except through the Sonos app - which does not interface with Apple Music. But the sound you get from the Sonos speakers is far superior to anything else in its price range, so I deal with the inconvenience of its network configuration.

One need only listen to the Sonos Playbar to hear the fantastic quality. Alone out of all the soundbars I investigated, Sonos delivers an improvement over the old computer speakers that I had been using with my TV. A separate subwoofer is sold, but since I live in a cramped space, I was pleased that the Playbar doesn't need it to still rattle the floors and deliver fantastic volume. Setup was not a joy, though. I was sold the Playbar without mention that it absolutely requires a network connection. You either need to hard-wire it to a router, which was not practical in my living space, or you need to buy the Sonos Bridge wireless hub for an extra $50. This was a very unpleasant surprise when I started to hook up my Playbar, as this was not mentioned in the Best Buy sales pitch, the general descriptions of the Playbar on the Sonos site, or anywhere on the box. Once I got the Bridge, though, installation was fairly easy and now I have the ability to wirelessly stream music from my various computing devices, so at least I got some extra features out of the deal.

I know there’s been some concern about the Playbar being a bit long in the tooth, but after comparing it to the Beam, the audio quality is just light years beyond. When paired with two Sonos Ones, you get all the “smart” features of the Sonos One, so no big loss there. The only other determining factor is the connection - TOSLink/SPDIF Optical, or HDMI-ARC? Strangely enough, lots of online articles act like it’s the optical-only input of the Playbar that’s limiting. Well, as of 2018, I’ve yet to run into a mid grade or high end TV that did not have optical out - I can’t say as much for HDMI-ARC. Maybe this will change in a few years, but right now I just don’t get the practicality of HDMI-ARC until TV makers start getting a LOT more generous with HDMI ports (usually only one supports ARC, if any at all).. and implementations I’ve seen have been flaky at best. Set up was simple; in 15 minutes I was good to go with the Playbar and Ones as surrounds.

Best Wireless Speaker Sound I've heard!

I just moved into a new house and I opted not to have the house wired for surround sound. I decided to take my chances with the advancements in technology and was going to go down the wireless route. I went back and forth on whether to jump in and pay for the Sonos system. I've had this a little over a month now and I must say I am impressed way beyond what I thought it was going to sound like! I bought the Playbar, 2 @ Play 3's and the Sonos Bridge. When watching a movie, I use the two play 3's as my rears. Watching Top Gun on Blu-Ray 3D was amazing!! I have not purchased the subwoofer yet, but I'm really contemplating it. It's not necessary, but I know this would only enhance the overall bass sound. The iPad/iPhone app is great! You can easily choose from any genre of music, radio stations, etc. along with controlling the sound to each of the devices individually. You can even run separate music through each device; i.e. One play 3 out in the back yard playing something different than the playbar is playing inside, etc. The room I have the Sonos equipment in is a family room with 20' ceilings. The sound doesn't get lost, rather it fills the space like a concert hall. I would highly recommend Sonos to anyone interested in great quality sound!

I thought I could get great sound cheaply, but I was wrong. I'd recently purchased the Polk Magnifi Max. It was loud, but there was little separation of sound. It really sounded like a loud tv speaker with a subwoofer. The subwoofer blew in less than two days and I never even turned it up all the way. I'd been eying the Sonos for a while, but never felt like pulling the trigger due to the price. Let's be honest - it's REALLY expensive, especially when paired with the Sonos subwoofer. However, it's worth the price. The sound is impeccable. Clear, not too much base, doesn't distort. I've never turned it up all the way because it's loud. Movies sound great. I've added the subwoofer and Sonos surrounds. While you can get by with just the Playbar (by itself it's already better than most cheaper surround systems) I recommend picking up the sub and surrounds. Thankfully, you don't have to buy them all at once. Music also sounds fantastic. It's not a speaker that costs $700, it's a speaker that sounds like it costs $700. It's worth the money.

After about 3 weeks of debating and reading reviews, I decided to pull the trigger and get the Sonos Playbar along with the Sonos Sub. Let me tell you, it was worth every penny! The sound is amazing (much better once you get it home and crank it up than in the store) and setup was super easy. The main reason I went with Sonos was because of the wireless ability. No one likes wires and having to run them through walls, ceilings, etc. will cost you more in the long run. Just connect the Playbar to your TV with an optical cable and you're ready to go. The Sub will connect wirelessly. I really like the Sonos app (you'll use this to set up your speakers as well as setting up your music streaming services, etc.) Adding more speakers in the future will be easy as well. You'll add them through the Sonos app and they'll connect wirelessly over your Sonos network. I've had Klipsch tower speakers and this Sonos setup blows them away. If you're on the line as to spend this amount of money for speakers/sound, trust me, you'll love it once you get it home! Sonos is the future of home theatre and sound.

I have two Sonos systems for a 75 & an 82" TV. Each consists of the PLAYBAR, Subwoofer & 2-Play 5's. Sound is very good and along with that I really appreciate the ability to adjust the acoustics for any room ( with TrueTuning & the Sonos mobile app ) and any TV program audio signal as well as movies from any device ( DVD, TV ). Once you understand ( fairly simple ) how the adjustments work you can fine tune the sound delivered just the way you like it. Definitely worth the $$$'s although I have no experience with having a Hi-Fi system set up ( traditional speakers, amp preamp etc ) with a TV for surround sound. I am very satisfied with Sonos products. Quality is excellent as is the packaging & instructions for set up. The PLAYBAR is a quality product and produces quality sound. I recommend Sonos products all the time to folks who want great quality sound. It also sounds excellent streaming music through the system.

This is a great system if you don't mind viewing TV shows and movie in PCM which means your not getting your $worth.Sonos advertises this product to play movie ,TV shows, etc in dolby digital 5.1,the sound drops often.Sonos is well aware of the problem. The reviews on best buy .Com are misleading,if you want the real go to the Sonos community the sound drops only when watching programs on Comcast x1 platform and the audio output is set to dolby digital 5.1. Jeff &Ryan level 2 techs from Sonos told me to basically set the audio output to PCM that will solve the problem.Thats a deal breaker for me.Im returning the play bar, subwoofer a set of play 1s,and the boost and speaker stands for a full refund....If you don't mind spending almost $2000 on a system that the sound input has to be set to PCM without the sound dropping.......do you but not this guy!!!!!!!!!!!

No such thing as a Sonus 5.1 surround sound system

    Posted
    markymark

This is a great product for listening to music but it totally stinks if you're trying to turn it into a 5.1 home theater system. Most tv's don't support a dolby 5.1 signal output via optical cable, and that's the only way to connect your tv to the playbar. If your tv doesn't do it, then your $1,700 sonos home theater system sounds just like a typical 2 channel stereo system. The worst part is that sonos' marketing is very, very misleading on this issue. While most new tv's have an optical output port, most don't support dolby 5.1 accross that output. Supposedly there are work-around solutions involving digital connection boxes that address this but I've spent WEEKS on this, and spent additional money, all to no avail. I have 2 high-end 4k Samsung TVs and neither will output a 5.1 signal to the optical cable. I now have a very, very expensive 2 channel stereo system when watching movies.

    Incompatible with Samsung televisions

    Posted

I spent 5 hours trying to configure this, trying to accommodate the network requirements and remote app setup. I finally took a break and began digging for info on this. Lo and behold I began to see a string of forum posts and reviews with one thing in common: Samsung televisions. It isn't the fault of Sonos, but the lack of compatibility on Samsung's part. There is an issue with the audio signal transferring between the HDMI coming in to their TVs and the optical out. So, I didn't ever get this thing to work, as much as I wanted it to. I have no idea how it sounds. Buyer beware, if you have a SAMSUNG television, you will have to pass on this. Best Buy associates probably don't have any idea of this issue, and certainly didn't say anything about it to me. Returning this for a Harmon Kardon.

I purchased a Playbar as well as a sub, 3 play 1's and 2 play 3's a little over a year ago. A pretty significant purchase in my opinion. I just noticed that the Playbar speaker is blown and Sonos won't do anything about it. They made me send them videos, the serial, diagnostics, wait on the phone for almost 2 hours and jump through hoops and at the very end told me I was out of warranty. No help at all! They can see on their end all of the equipment I bought from them and still nothing. Forget this company...they have terrible customer service. Remember this before you go and make a large purchase from them. You only have 12 months and they cut you off, no repairs available, your on your own. I think this is garbage for such an expensive premium product. Buyer beware, overpriced equipment that will go bad and low end customer service.

The sound bar and entire Sonos system is absolutely amazing I can hear arrows whistling over my head on war movies and late at night watching a scary movie hearing the monster getting closer until you can almost feel it breathing on the back of your neck is truly a hair raising experience I would most definitely recommend this product to anyone not only is the sound quality extremely crisp and easy to install The fact that it's wireless and you don't have the mess of multiple wires tangled up that alone is worth having these speakers in your home. Now you do need power cords to run the speakers but I found another trick under the back of each one of the speakers is a small slot that you can talk your fingers right under the speakers from the backside allowing you to hide the Power cords under the speakers themselves completely camouflaging all wires to your system and if you buy the Sonos speaker stands they have a way to completely make your wires go away and that to me is Quality by itself and all I have to say Sonos is thank you for helping me fight my war against wires.

I've always been a very loyal fan of the BOSE brand, and I bought the solo 5 sound bar and it was just ok, so i decided to get the soundtouch 300 and what a Big disappointment, although it had ARC input and Bluetooth, still didn't sound to my expectations, (I'm a musician and sound engineer) so I decided to go back to best buy and checked a demo of the SONOS PLAYBAR that was on display and I was BLOWN away with the clarity and performance in general, I've heard a lot about the brand before but never tried it before, the real test was trying it at home, so I returned the BOSE one and took the SONOS playbar, which by the way they are the same price and took it home...Absolutely AMAZING sound and performance, it works seamless with my wifi network, that was another issue i had with the Bose soundtouch 300, with the SONOS, the connectivity was just perfect, I downloaded the main app to all my devices at home and couldn't be happier, I'll be a fan to SONOS now, THANK YOU!

PROs: Easy Installation; Excellent Construction; Good Sound Quality. CONS: Price; Form Factor; No Outdoor Product. I purchased the playbar and sub to enhance my home wireless system. In addition to these items, I have a couple of Play 1's -- 1 in the kitchen and the second in a guest bedroom. It was easy to add the new speakers to the existing Sonos products. All the speakers deliver good sound in the rooms where they are installed. The Playbar made a "HUGE" difference in the listenability of the HDTV installed in my master bedroom. If you can't afford it, or don't what to deal with installing it, this system is OK for an inexpensive 5.1 surround system, as mentioned in numerous other reviews and touted by the manufacturer. I highly recommend the Playbar with sub to replace the speakers in any HDTV. No if Sonos could just add an outdoor speaker(s) to their lineup, they'd have a robust product series.

I purchased the Playbar/ Sub/ 3 Play 5's/ 3 Play 3's: It's hard to describe the sound quality of these speakers and how it fills the room without being intrusive. We have elevated ceilings and the sound from the Play 5's sound fills the space with the right amount of base and treble. The only way I can describe it is as if you don't know where the sound is coming from when you walk into the house, it's pretty awesome! The setup is extremely user friendly, almost effortless. The play bar and sub can be played at low levels and movie conversations still audible. The sound doesn't go to extremes when commercials come on which is nice on the ears. The surround sound system has settings for rear speakers (in feet) close, medium, or far distance to adjust the sound in relation to your viewing position of TV. I've had the Sonos a little over 1 month and I am still finding out new ways to utalize their awesome app while arranging Play 1's in different rooms. Thanks Sonos for making such an awesome product!
