I'm going to keep this short and sweet as best as I can. I bought the soundbar, sub, boost, wall-mount bracket, and a 4 year protection plan for both the sound bar and sub (peace of mind). I spent just under $2000, and left Best Buy feeling nauseous because I hate spending that much money in one shot. Initially, after setting it up, I was ecstatic, this is my first sound bar, and in my opinion, the sound was amazing. After watching movies, netflix, and fios tv, I kept hearing this static/popping sound, while it was barely noticeable, it was quite distracting because I would focus on hearing that to see if it was a consistent issue rather than focusing on what I was watching. Then the next thing that happened was the sound completely cut out, twice, while watching The Godfather. I searched the sonos forums which has conversations with customers with similar problems, speaking with sonos support, and tried everything possible to troubleshoot the issue. It didn't work, so I packed up my sound bar and brought it back to best buy to exchange it for another of the same. Rushed home with the new/replacement sound bar , set it up, fired it up, and I immediately noticed that it didn't sound as loud as the previous one, but I just thought to myself, I'm paranoid. At 11 pm that same night, I decided to call it quits, I shut the tv off, and when the sound bar was "off" (technically it's always on) there was this high pitched squeal constantly emitting from the left side of the sound bar... best way I can describe it is almost like interference that sounds like a dog whistle (you can barely hear it, but it's super annoying). I was pretty aggravated to say the least. First thing in the morning the next day, I brought the sound bar back to Best Buy and felt like an idiot walking in there for the second time in 2 days to return their "top of the line, best sound bar." The staff was very nice and understanding, and I joked with them that hopefully the third time is the charm. Brought the 3rd sound bar home, set it up, fired it up, and it sounded amazing, easily the best of the 3, no static popping, and it was LOUD! I let it play for an hour, then shut it off and closed my eyes hoping there wouldn't be a high pitched squeal... and there wasn't! The rest of the day, I was so happy that I gave it a 3rd shot because I loved the convenience and sound of this system. I watched Netflix and a Blu-Ray that night, and had zero issues. Well here I am tonight watching some Mixed Martial Arts fights on Spike TV, and you know what's happening NOW?! The sound cuts out in between every single commercial. Now I understand that, to some, this may not sound like the biggest deal, but it drives me insane. I'll be back at Best Buy tomorrow with all of the Sonos products I purchased, and looking for a full refund. All in all, if this system worked the way it should, it would be hands down, a 5 star rating all day. But to think that I spent almost $2000, went through 3 sound bars and all of them had issues, is just completely unacceptable. I hope that anyone that is on the fence about dropping $700 on this sound bar, reads this review, and can make an informed decision based on it. Maybe I just had terrible luck, but I tried so hard to make this system work.

    Huge Disappibtment

Purchased this unit after having to replace an old Bose sound system. Had huge expectations and have been indefinitely let down. After purchasing in April 2014- 5 months later in September 2014 we started hearing a crackling sound coming from the sound bar. After several attempts to reboot, reset, and re-install the sound bar to our TV with the help of a sonos rep, the crackling did not stop. Sono's offered to replace the unit and I thought "great"! And that's where the greatness stopped. After sending out the entire unit and cords via fedex- sono's guaranteed a 2-day delivery once they received it back. That was one of two options. The first option was to give them my credit card number and they would put a $700 hold on my card, 2-day the new equipment, and once they received my return they would reimburse the money. THANK GOD I chose the other route. After receiving a confirmation from fedex AND sonos that our faulty unit had been received in their warehouse, 2 days.. a week... 2 weeks went by with no replacement unit in sight. After several attempts to contact the customer support people and sort out the matter- I was told they got a new computer software and were having communication issues with their warehouse.... Really. Then I was told they did not realize they were out of stock... Really?! How can people be so disorganized and guarantee a product they do not have. I was told I'd receive an email and a call from another customer support rep once they confirmed whether or not they could locate a sound bar. Days go by again and I recieve no information so I called sonos AGAIN. Finally they say they located a new sound bar and would ship it immediately. This was on Monday 10/13. Did not recieve the equipment until Thursday only to find out none of the cords and connector wires were included- MIND YOU WE RETURNED ALL OF OUR ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. What a nightmare. So now we're going on a month and a half without a being able to use this $700 piece of sound equipment. Save yourself the energy.

Started Very Good but Got Very Bad

Based on the stellar reviews here and everywhere else I purchased this soundbar expecting it to be very good. And it was very good. Its very easy to set up. It comes awake when you turn on the tv which is nice. It learns your remote so your DirecTV or Comcast remote will control the volume. Nice. It only connects through an optical cable so set up is VERY simple. Once its done with the set up which involves the app and your phone it sounds great. But... So I purchased to mainly correct issues I was having with the sound being out of sync with cheaper soundbars. This corrected that. It sounded great and worked. Until it didnt. After about 3 weeks I noticed the sound cutting out. Like someone hit the mute button. It would go in and out randomly watching tv which ruins trying to watch something. They pushed out numerous updates in the month I had it and I'd hope each time it was fixed but nope. Sound still cuts out. Maybe it was the optical cable? So I tried playing music through Alexa to take the tv out of the equation. Music also sounds very good. So after a few minutes it just stops. At this point I decided I am done with the Sonos and will return it. Lucky for me the return period is extended during the holidays or I'd be stuck with a bad product that doesnt work. I returned it for a Bose that is SO far excellent. Fingers crossed. Buyer Beware for the Sonos Playbar. Their forum is FULL of sound cutting out issues that go on for YEARS. Clearly they are struggling to fix it. Before buying this product do some research and strongly consider other brands. It gets one star based on the sound quality.

Doesn't Work Well with 55" Sony TV

Our Sony KDL55BX520 55in 1080p TV is exactly 4 years old. We hooked up the Sonos bar to our TV and everything worked great at first. We even hooked the Sonos bar to our universal Directv remote so that we didnt have to use a 2nd controller. Then a couple days later, we noticed that we had to turn our volume up to 32 before we even heard a whisper of a noise coming from the sound bar. We un-synced the sound bar from the universal remote, synced it again, and everything was fine. The next day, same issue, so we called the Sonos customer service. They instructed us to send them an instant diagnostic report and saw that when we saw the volume at 32, the sound bar was registering the volume level at 8, therefore, it wasnt synching properly with our TV. I asked if there was a solution and they simply told me that they're not compatible with all TV models and there wasn't any update or solution that would remedy this issue. I was shocked as the reason we got the Sonos sound bar in the first place was because of its high ratings! Needless to say, we immediately returned the item and got a Sony HTCT780 sound bar instead. So far, its been 3 days and the Sony system seems to be working well, especially since it comes with a subwoofer.

I purchased a Playbar as well as a sub, 3 play 1's and 2 play 3's a little over a year ago. A pretty significant purchase in my opinion. I just noticed that the Playbar speaker is blown and Sonos won't do anything about it. They made me send them videos, the serial, diagnostics, wait on the phone for almost 2 hours and jump through hoops and at the very end told me I was out of warranty. No help at all! They can see on their end all of the equipment I bought from them and still nothing. Forget this company...they have terrible customer service. Remember this before you go and make a large purchase from them. You only have 12 months and they cut you off, no repairs available, your on your own. I think this is garbage for such an expensive premium product. Buyer beware, overpriced equipment that will go bad and low end customer service.

This is a great system if you don't mind viewing TV shows and movie in PCM which means your not getting your $worth.Sonos advertises this product to play movie ,TV shows, etc in dolby digital 5.1,the sound drops often.Sonos is well aware of the problem. The reviews on best buy .Com are misleading,if you want the real go to the Sonos community the sound drops only when watching programs on Comcast x1 platform and the audio output is set to dolby digital 5.1. Jeff &Ryan level 2 techs from Sonos told me to basically set the audio output to PCM that will solve the problem.Thats a deal breaker for me.Im returning the play bar, subwoofer a set of play 1s,and the boost and speaker stands for a full refund....If you don't mind spending almost $2000 on a system that the sound input has to be set to PCM without the sound dropping.......do you but not this guy!!!!!!!!!!!

No such thing as a Sonus 5.1 surround sound system

    Posted
    markymark

This is a great product for listening to music but it totally stinks if you're trying to turn it into a 5.1 home theater system. Most tv's don't support a dolby 5.1 signal output via optical cable, and that's the only way to connect your tv to the playbar. If your tv doesn't do it, then your $1,700 sonos home theater system sounds just like a typical 2 channel stereo system. The worst part is that sonos' marketing is very, very misleading on this issue. While most new tv's have an optical output port, most don't support dolby 5.1 accross that output. Supposedly there are work-around solutions involving digital connection boxes that address this but I've spent WEEKS on this, and spent additional money, all to no avail. I have 2 high-end 4k Samsung TVs and neither will output a 5.1 signal to the optical cable. I now have a very, very expensive 2 channel stereo system when watching movies.

First I loved the sound this Sonos play-bar system produces. Sadly though I had to return it to the store because it had problems with sound cutting out anywhere from 1-3 seconds at a time intermittently. I asked Sonos about this problem and all they could do was acknowledge there was a problem with this and that they were working on a solution. That doesn't help me any though because according to their forum on there website other people have had this same problem going on for a couple of years now. I'm not that patient for something this expensive. It is really annoying when sound keeps cutting out for a second or two here and there.

Purchased this sound bar for a second, weekend home, where we purposely do not have an internet connection. The Best Buy Salesman assured me that one would not be necessary. After contacting the Sonos Customer Service, I was informed that there is no way to set this sound bar up without a Wi-Fi connection. If the Best Buy employees had been more informed, it would have saved me a tremendous amount of time attempting to make this work. BTW - there are literaly no instructions in the box either. You must download the app to your phone, plus have a Wi-Fi connection to set it up and operate. Great concept, wrong application in my case. I returned it and purchased a sterio receiver and a pair of speakers...it sounds great.

After having my $2500 worth of Sonos speakers for 2 months now, I cannot express how much I hate the Sonos ecosystem, especially after having used the Amazon Alexa system. Ease of set? Ha! Customer support? Hahahahahaha!!!! The only support is on weekdays (to afford these speakers most of us have to work during those same hours). Price? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Other than the sound quality, there is absolutely nothing good to say about Sonos. The app is the absolute worst and at least weekly I am plagued with issues. Today's issue: I simply updated my wifi router keeping the same login name and password but the Sonos ecosystem cannot locate or allow me to reset. I shall not shed a tear when Sonos goes out of business.

I got a 5.1 set from Best buy and after setting up was blown away with the sound quality. It exceeded my expectations since the DEMO materials in BB store were not good. They didn't really demonstrate how good the sound actually was. Absolutely loved the SUB. Clear crisp sounds, deep bass, and overall easy to setup. I was happy, looked like I found the perfect solution... until I discovered that SONOS doesn't decode DTS! I couldn't believe any high end sound system that costs about $2K (with tax) wouldn't support DTS in year 2016. My 6 years old DENON does it.... I searched online and found a post from SONOS rep confirming that they will NOT add DTS because they consider it as irrelevant to most customers. Sadly I returned the setup to best buy...

I bought this sound bar and two Sonos speakers after going back and forth between Sonos and Bose. After going over everything with the very informative sales associate we decided on the Sonos. When got home I forgot that the only connection was an optical connection but I figured no big deal. BUT every single night I get a clicking noise coming from the sound bar just as described by a couple of the reviews for this product. I play with the optical cable and it will go away but it always comes back. I will be returning this product tomorrow and picking up the Bose sound bar and speakers.

Let me just get to the point. It doesn't sound that great. I spent 1600.00 on the bar and woofer, and my 300.00 Sony surround sound in the other room sounds 5 times better. The sounds are hollow and thin. There is no "wow" experience. So, it's wireless. Who cares? So it plays music from your phone...so does any other blue tooth speaker system. Heck, if you have a nice older stereo all you need is a 50.00 blue tooth adaptor for it to play music from your phone or tablet.

Sonos will not transmit surround sound UNLESS using a DVD/ Blueray or possibly NEtFlix! Your NEW TV's will NOT transmit DOLBY surround sound-which is REQUIRED for SONOS systems. BEST BUY and SONOS should have a sign that states surround sound is LIMITED with this product. IT's suggested to load all music to your cell phone or I-Pad and used for music only . It does sound great when used strictly for music or a Blueray DVD. SONOS- PLEASE Up-date your surround sound capabilities- THEN your system would be worth the money!

When I moved into my new place I purchased speakers for three rooms and one for my TV. I have them for years. I wish I hadn't purchased them. About every six weeks I have to spend time resetting up the WiFI systems again so I can use the speakers. In addition, it never goes as it is supposed to, there is always some glitch in setting it up. It has gotten to the point where I just take my lap top from room to room. Look for my speakers on Craig's List.

I was told by all the best buy nerds that this was the best sound equipment hands down. For $699 you get a sound bar that plays music like a $150 sound bar. The only difference is that the Sonos has an app. Then if you want anything else like a subwoofer or surround speakers, you have to purchase sonos's expensive one. Take my advise if you want too, but I wish I would have just bought a cheaper sound bar that came with everything. Very dissatisfied with the purchase.

    Not compatible with Sharp TV

    LilGazr

FYI - I have the Sharp Aquos 3D Quatra tv - LC70LE845U and the Sonos Playbar is not compatible because the tv overrides the digital output when HDMI is being used therefore no sound will ever be sent to the Sonos. This is more of a tv problem, but I feel Sonos should know this and note it on their website, but instead, the Sonos site is incredibly useless. Spent hours trying to get it to work only to find a post stating the problem. Get the Bose instead. Better compatibility.

We bought this soundbar together with the play 1s at the weekend. Truly disappointed. It doesn't let us play any of our movies that are DTS. Unfortunately, even the sound is fabulous for music, it rendered the entire thing a waste of time for us, so we took it back, and we're going to look for something else.

I was very disappointed with this unit. Sound was no better than a mono speaker. I had to buy two rear speakers for $150 each but only worth $50 and it did make a difference, but $700 into this I still need bass, and that is another $700, just completely overrated, a marketing wiz they are, a music wiz they are not. Dont buy it.

Had high hopes for this system. I was very excited about its wireless capabilities. So I purchased the sound bar in the bridge. With the sound bar hooked directly to my television with an HDMI cable I would constantly lose volume. It would cut out at random times and then stay off for couple seconds and then come back on. Hopefully they fix this problem in the future but it was far too annoying to keep the system.
