2 Stars for Best Buy, 5 Stars for Sonos Playbar

The 2 stars is for Best Buy service and not the Sonos Playbar. I ordered an open box excellent condition. I was disappointed to see the package arrived in the original box with no over pack box for protection from damage. Not sure if this is Standard for Best Buy but having paid a hefty price I would expect a little more packaging. I was more disappointed after opening the box to find all original accessories were not included as stated in the description. Only the power cord which was attached to the soundbar already and individually packaged. I called customer service and no solution was given but to take to the store. So I had to take it to the store and they provided me the accessories needed. All in all this was not a pleasant buying experience and quite a hassle. Most likely I will avoiding Best Buy for future electronic purchases. As for the Sonos Playbar I give it 5 stars. I'll keep it short. This sounds great and worth the money. Just my opinion.

    Incompatible with Samsung televisions

I spent 5 hours trying to configure this, trying to accommodate the network requirements and remote app setup. I finally took a break and began digging for info on this. Lo and behold I began to see a string of forum posts and reviews with one thing in common: Samsung televisions. It isn't the fault of Sonos, but the lack of compatibility on Samsung's part. There is an issue with the audio signal transferring between the HDMI coming in to their TVs and the optical out. So, I didn't ever get this thing to work, as much as I wanted it to. I have no idea how it sounds. Buyer beware, if you have a SAMSUNG television, you will have to pass on this. Best Buy associates probably don't have any idea of this issue, and certainly didn't say anything about it to me. Returning this for a Harmon Kardon.

I fell in love with this in the store, and despite the hefty price tag it sounded so phenomenal that I bit the bullet and made my purchase. Sadly, now that it's at home it really has been a disappointment. We have been tinkering with it for a few weeks to no avail. Im thinking we likely have something set up wrong - in fact we are considering having the geek squad come take a peek at it. It's just kind of blah ... no different than my old cheapo sound bar so something must be up wrong. On a different note, I do wish this could be controlled by something other than a phone app. A remote would make life so much easier for those of us that aren't so dependent on our phones to control things. Hoping with time we can get the sound bar dialed in correctly. Im outside of my return window and besides that I realllllllly wanted it to work!

    Stopped working after 3 years

I have Multiple Sonos speaker throughout my house. Until recently they all worked and sound great. Just around the time they made an update to the play bar it stopped working. I called Sono’s support and they went through a couple of troubleshooting things and the person said sorry it’s broken. I asked them what the next step was and he said he can give me a discount on a new one because mine was out of warranty. This being a completely reasonable thing to say for a speaker that cost $100 or $200 but for what they charge is unexplainable. When I purchased this system for what I paid, I thought I was getting something that would last longer than it has. All I am is saying is before you make your purchase there are cheaper speakers out there that are probably going to serve you better and not make you feel like you have been taken advantage of.

Good sound, lacks DTS and HDMI, pricey

This sound bar has excellent sound, but lacks features that should be included at this price point. Since the unit does not include HDMI, it is limited in the surround modes that it supports. If you choose to add a pair of Sonos surround speakers, they cannot be used for Bluetooth music streaming without going through a time-consuming set-up process every time. It was rather difficult to set-up my Samsung television Smart remote to control the unit and many people online could not figure out the set-up process. After living with these limitations for a week, I decided to return the unit. The next revision of this product will likely address all these issues. Thanks.

Low volume, tinny sound for music

We have SONOS throughout the house as well as outside and love it. We were very eager to get this soundbar, but then very disappointed once it arrived. The sound is very clear, and the simulated surround is excellent. The problem is, we have to jack it up to full volume to hear it. And there are times when we need it to go to 11 (spinal tap reference there). This sucker needs more output, and for the price tag we expected that. OK, but it is versatile right? We can also play music though the sonos apps etc. Well, the sound of the bar for playing music is shallow and tinny; nothing like a play5 or play3. So, its too underpowered for surround sound, and too tinny for music. Sorry Sonos, we still love you but 699 for this? No thanks.

I purchased the play at after reading positive reviews. While the sound quality is good, the voice does not match the lip movements on the picture. This is not a problem related to the television, as the synchronize Asian works well with my older soundbar.considering that the play bar cost almost 3 times as much as my old sound bar, this is an unacceptable shortcoming. I have tried various adjustments on the television and the Sonos device without significant improvement. There are several online forums dealing with the same issue, so my problem does not appear to be unique I would not make this purchase again.

    these high reviews are misleading

It is decent for replacing the TV speakers. I also bought a pair of play 1's to use a surround speakers. Technology wise these speakers are pretty cool, but Sonos is not a high end audio company; although their prices would make you assume otherwise. Streaming Pandora at max volume the sound would drop and rise erratically. The Bose SoundTouch 130 sounds better than this and the DefinitiveTechnology W Studio sounds even better! I returned the Sonos products and bought the Definitive Technology W Studio sound bar, couldn't be happier!!

This playbar sounds ok. The connectivity of Sonos is lacking. The only way to play anything other than music streaming is through the line in on this playbar or through a 500$ play 5 or 300$ connect (these are the only 3 Sonos items that have an auxiliary line in). The real bummer here is that Sonos is wanting you to run any non streaming audio through their proprietary app and that itself makes the system very limited. I will more than likely be returning this and the sub to buy an AVR with speakers.

    Really Disappointing

I am really disappointed. For $750 out the door after tax I would have expected a lot more. It does not sound any better than my TV speakers. Playing music it sounds good but falls apart as the volume goes up. There is a value in the simplicity of the Sonos ecosystem and how easy everything connects together. I would give them 5 stars for that. The sound quality and value I would give just one star. Its way over priced for the low sound quality it delivers.

The product is slick out of the box. Set up through the SONOS APP was easy as could be. The problem with this is that the TV volume gets out of sync with the remote every day. It’s annoying as can be. Lots of comments about this on the SONOS help page in the APP too. Should have bought something FAR LESS EXPENSIVE.

I first bought the playbar and set it up thinking it supported airplay 2. It does not. Best Buy allowed me to return it and get the Sonos Beam which is 1/2 the price and almost as good sound quality. The reason for the low rating is this product will never get Airplay support and you have to use a special sonos app for your music which is hacky

This speaker look and functions amazingly with its ability to play music off of a phone. However, its sound quality was not that good. To me it sounded like it was playing from the other side of that wall. The highs were non existence and the mids were shallow. I took it back and got something else.

The sound bar did not help me hear certain voices well, especially if they were accented, such as an actor from England or when the actors whispered. Even if the program was produced in the USA with our actors playing the parts, I had trouble discriminating what the individuals where saying at times.

I was disappointed with the sound quality considering the price, expected a lot better, but I didn't have the subwoofer which may have helped, also the wireless capabilities are nice and useful but there again the sound quality is not that great, I could not tell much difference from the TV speakers.

No bass. Before I purchased I was told it would sound great and that I did not need to buy any additional speakers for better performance the bar alone would be good...I would think I 800+ sound bar would have excellent sound but I was wrong

I have had my sound bar for about 2 months, the sound bar is very inconsistent and does not meet my expectations of a sound bar that cost $700.00. We have had great results with the Sonos play 1's but the sound bar is not of the same quality.
